We would not recommend FPG Construction based on our experience with our basement bathroom remodel and a separate flooring project they completed in our home. While the projects started off well, communication and project management steadily declined.
Throughout the bathroom remodel, we repeatedly had to ask for updates on permits, inspections, scheduling, and next steps. We were given multiple assurances that permits were being processed and would be approved "soon." However, after contacting Fauquier County ourselves, we were told they had no permit application on file at that time. As the weeks went on, the explanations for the delays continued to change, making it increasingly difficult to know what information was accurate.
During the separate flooring project, we experienced workmanship issues, including damage to portions of the newly installed flooring and noticeable gaps. Wilder acknowledged that the quality of the initial installation did not meet expectations and arranged for a different contractor to redo much of the flooring work. However, the original contractor was later sent back to our home to complete the toe kick and shoe molding.
This created an uncomfortable and awkward situation because he had been told that we were unhappy with his work. While we appreciated that our initial concerns were acknowledged and corrective work was performed, the overall process was confusing, required repeated follow-up, and could have been handled much more professionally.
The most concerning part of our experience involved the plumbing and electrical permits for the bathroom. We were asked to assume responsibility for those permits, but after speaking directly with the county, we learned that doing so would make us responsible for work that we did not perform. We declined because we hired FPG Construction with the understanding that they would obtain the required permits and assume responsibility for the work being performed.
Throughout the process, we remained patient, professional, and understanding and gave FPG numerous opportunities over the course of several weeks to resolve the issues and complete the project properly. Unfortunately, communication eventually deteriorated to the point where we were essentially ghosted. Calls and messages seeking updates and a path toward completing the work went unanswered, leaving us to repeatedly follow up and seek information ourselves.
The repeated delays, inconsistent communication, permitting issues, workmanship concerns, unfinished items, and eventual lack of communication caused us to completely lose confidence in the company.
What should have been an exciting home improvement project became months of unnecessary stress, uncertainty, and repeated follow-up. As homeowners, we expected transparency, accountability, quality workmanship, and professional communication. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of those expectations.
We hope FPG Construction improves its communication, project management, quality-control, and permitting processes so future homeowners do not have a similar experience.
