I've got a story to share. This is a story of someone who has not been to this particular restaurant chain in over 14 years. Because the Carlisle Pennsylvania location shut down along time ago, I was always under the impression by my younger self that this place did not exist anymore in the area or state. It only happens to be during a small mini road trip did I spot a pizza shop on a Siri search result that looked eerily familiar. Curiously and with excitement I decided to take a look. Thankfully I was not disappointed even after all this time. One of my favorite pizza shops that I ate at when I grew up is still as good as I remembered it. Thanks for giving me the most enjoyable meal of the weekend and arguably the entire week. Signed, Someone who may or may not be a fox furry and whose license plate contains "FOX"

I placed my order online and went with a Hefty size Classic Cheesesteak, and a Husky size Philly Special Hoagie. Total after tax/tip was $34.00. How were they? Cheesesteak- Fantastic! Nice seeded bread, tons of meat and cooper sharp cheese. Onions were cut a little big and laid on top, so they started to fall all over the place (eat this outside your car, trust me!) while I was eating. Flavors were great, though! Damn fine cheesesteak and I would definitely return to get another. Hoagie- This thing was packed with goodies! They also use the "meat blanket" technique that I have only seen at LaSpadas down in Florida, previously. All the ingredients were well put together, HUGE, good bread, but there was a lack of tang in the olive oil/vinegar dressing. It was basically absent. That's why the 4 stars. Maybe you need to order extra or more vinegar? Something was definitely needed though. It was pretty plain tasting. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good sandwich, but it could have been a GREAT sandwich with some extra flavor of the oil/vinegar. This would definitely be my sandwich spot if I lived in York!

I've probably driven by Southside Deli 1,000 times and never knew what the building was -- until a…read moreFacebook post about their Oktoberfest specials stopped me in my tracks. A quick search later and I realized it was only 20 minutes from home. I immediately grabbed a friend and requested a dinner date for the item that caught my eye: the Bratwurst mit Kraut -- bratwurst cooked with apples and sauerkraut, served on a pretzel bun and topped with even more kraut, with a side of German potato salad ($12). But I'll admit... I was also eyeing their Obatzda Burger with Oktoberfest beer cheese. Feeling bold, I asked our waitress if I could order their regular Pretzel Braid appetizer ($9) but swap the usual cheez-wiz and spicy mustard for that dreamy Oktoberfest beer cheese instead. She paused, smiled, wrote it down, and said, "that sounds really good!" Bless the chef for making my pretzel + beer cheese fantasy come true. The pretzel braid was warm, soft, and perfectly salty, and that beer cheese was the real MVP -- smooth, melty, not too hot, and with a proper beer-cheese finish. When the bratwurst plate arrived, it was a showstopper. Juicy brat, tangy kraut piled high, and tucked inside a pretzel roll that was soft but sturdy enough to hold it all together. No mustard needed! The German potato salad surprised me, though -- I'm used to the warm version, so finding it chilled caught me off guard. But honestly? It worked. Perfectly seasoned, just wet enough to be salad without drifting into soupy territory. I demolished both. Dessert was impossible to skip after hearing our waitress describe it to another table. We shared both the Apple Caramel Crumb Cake and the Lemon Blueberry Mascarpone Cake. The crumb cake was served warm with ice cream, loaded with thick, crunchy topping that didn't rely on chopped nuts (bonus points!). The mascarpone cake was light and buttery with the perfect balance of lemon and blueberry -- like saying goodbye to summer and hello to fall all in one dessert sitting. Southside Deli's Oktoberfest menu blew me away, and if their everyday offerings are anywhere close, I've been seriously missing out. Add in free parking, a convenient location, and plenty of seating, and it's an easy go-to spot for lunch or dinner. Southside is officially on my food rotation radar now!

I know what a good Philly cheesesteak is and this is NOT it. It was dry and bland. Not enough cheese. Onion rings sucked, bland again and one onion ring was thick because of too much batter. The batter part was so dense. The Italian hoagie wasn't terrible but not great. Really hard to eat cause the tomato is just on top and not in. The salad was okay but didn't have fork to eat it with.

We both had triple stack sandwiches - I had turkey and bacon and my coworker has the roast beef. Both sandwiches looked and tasted great. The turkey was real meat slices - not lunchmeat. I prefer my fries crisper but my coworker said he prefers his lighter and thought these were great. Service was prompt and friendly. DVR wraps their utensils in a napkin and delivers them to the tables. It irked me a little that as we were eating, someone at the counter knocked one of the bundles of silverware on the floor and then she went around the counter, picked it up, and placed it into the gray plastic tubs where all the clean ones were. Not cool. I look forward to my next visit - the food was good, it was ready quickly, the service was fast and our meals were inexpensive. I'm surprised by the low overall rating which doesn't jibe with our experiences.

She had a smile on her face the whole time and checked in on us multiple times. Bathrooms were very clean and so was the rest of the diner. I got the Stuffed Shrimp with a Crab Cake which was more Crab imperial on top of Steamed Shrimp which was very good but not what I expected from the name of the dish. My daughter got spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. The meatballs had no seasoning and the sauce was very bland. We both each got the chili to go with our meals which was just ok, I've had worse. The price was high for being a diner, in my opinion. Be careful pulling in and out of the parking lot. There's a one way in from the street on one side and a one way out on the other side. Plenty of parking all around the building.

This is our 2nd visit in 3 days, we absolutely love the Italian Sub & Ham and Cheese Sub. The Sub Roll is perfect (They make their breads fresh daily here) ! The meats and cheeses along with a nice selection of toppings are all so very fresh and flavorful ! We can't wait to try some of their Paninis and Breakfast Sandwiches . They look amazing ! The menu offers a very nice selection of sandwiches and salad's .... The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and seem to really have a passion for their job . Service is outstanding, they make your selections fresh The interior is very welcoming and spotless, they do have a very heartwarming board on a side wall that folks and local business has pre-paid for food for those in need, awesome ! Inside the shop you can sit in between Five Loaves and Deja Brew Coffee Shop & Bakery. Today's was one star, bread was so burnt I thought I'd gotten the wrong bread when I unwrapped it. Looks NOTHING like their usual sub rolls. Was also weird plastic thin strips in it. Was a sad sandwich and took a long time to make. Seems like today was not their day. It'll be a while before I try again. Was over 15$ for sandwich chips and drink where sandwich was hard to eat just tasted like burnt dry bread.
