Hands down. Favorite brewery. I live down the street from here and occasionally come and get the discounted Sunday beer to fill up my growlers. The bartenders are also exceptionally friendly. I went one time for my friend's uncle's band that they were playing in the back area by the brewing and I thought it was a brilliant place to host an event like that. Environment in here is really nice, open, inviting and rustic. I feel like most breweries are and have that masculine Pinterest-inspired man cave look and this one certainly does, but it just seems more open. When the weather is nice, there is a great little side porch you can hang out with your beers, pals and neighbors. I'm not a "I know all the kind of beers and their styles" kind of connoisseur. I just like to drink it. However, when I have a question or tell them something, I'm looking for, they describe and give me suggestions of what I'm looking for without being pretentious about it. I recommend this place, especially if you're looking for somewhere to be with buddies that's not out-of-control and the weather is nice. read more

My visit to FSB was a brief one, with a little time to kill before heading over to the Pacers game. However, I was able to enjoy a flight of six 3 oz. samples for only $5.00. The variety of cleverly named brews included the Workingman's Pilsner, Soul Ride IPA, Hop For Teacher Pale Ale, Backyard Porter, Coffee Hour Amber Ale and Count Nibula Chocolate Stout. I really enjoyed all of them, especially the stout. The tasting room is a relaxing, spacious lounge filled with high-top tables and various pieces of artwork adorning the walls. They don't serve food, but they do allow patrons to bring their dogs inside with them, a bonus for quality beer drinking pet lovers. I just wish I would have had a little more time to hang out here. We go here often and always have a nice time! Only reason for 4 stars is I only enjoy one of their beers and sometimes the staff isn't the friendliest, but it's still always good service. The inside in huge! Tons of comfy couches, tables, and bar seating. They are dog friendly, at least on the porch for sure, not 100% sure about inside. They also have arcade games (seems to be a new trend in breweries) and darts. We took a bus here for my birthday and they easily accommodated 30 people. They don't serve food, however you can easily order food from elsewhere and get it delivered. They have several menus available for you if you want to go that route! So I went there for packet pickup for the Shamrock run...and of course had to stop and have a drink...my friend and I shared the flight and a pint of something blonde. The something blonde..was not very good...but the darker beers were amazing. This is from someone that hates anything dark...I'm more of a fruity light beer type of gal. The location is kind of tucked away from the street...its nice in the summer though to bring your dog and friends and sit down for a pint as the floors are cement and easily washed. To be honest, I don't love Fountain Square's beer. But I sure do love this brewery. The open warehouse concept, the funky art, the pinball, the giant couches, the patio -- it's every place I want to be at, all the time, all at once. Craft beer has become kind of a hoighty-toighty thing to some folks -- restored wood and exposed brick, flavors and profiles like wine, making the whole enterprise a bit of a put-off to people just looking for a cold one. In refreshing contrast, Fountain Square Brewery is accessible. A perfect place to wile away a summer afternoon with a kolsh, or to hole up with friends in the winter around some porters. Fountain Square Brewery manages to take all of the best things about a dive bar and mix it with local craft beer. They're the old kids on the block, and I hope more new breweries take after them. Reminds you of when brewing beer was just two guys spoiling soggy grain in a basement. It used to be like that, right? read more

As others have stated, they are no longer dog friendly. Yes, I realize you can have dogs at the picnic tables outside, but you can do that pretty much anywhere. Overall the beer is just okay. It's not bad, by any means, but I haven't had one yet that was particularly special. Honestly, the real reason we went here at all was that it was a nice place to bring the dogs, grab some carry out, and have a few decent pints. You can't bring your dogs in anymore because they decided to start serving sandwiches, which in my opinion, was a poor business decision. Again, I can get an underwhelming sandwich anywhere, and with the variety of very good take out options nearby, I just don't understand the thinking here. One of my favorite breweries in the city (and I've been to a lot of them). They have some of the cleanest tasting pales, awesome names for their beers, and amazing artwork on their bottles, cans, and on the wall in their tap house. This brewery is in a great location and I've had good times here at their shows and with friends, but overall, it's just OK. As others have stated, their beer is just "meh." I am not even close to a beer snob, but I have not tasted even one of FSB's that I like. They also recently started serving sandwiches that are just not good. I also don't find their staff to be particularly engaged with customers needs. Again, everything here just falls into the "fair" range. With all of the great food and drink places to hang in fountain square, the only thing that would draw me back to FSB is a show. read more

Props to this place for supporting the local music scene around Fountain Square so well. It's great to see bands I know and their merchandise and other artists' work available for purchase. Whether hanging on the walls or on display during a show the brewery is doing right by artists. The stage in the back is open and serves as a decent stage and sound venue, I've seen many great shows here as the space lends itself to more intimate experience with the bands and other patrons. The seating, at the bar or tall tables, is plentiful lots to choose from, I've seen large groups here enjoy themselves as well as groups of 4 so there is space to be comfortable yet not too crowded. Having great beer is just a perk in all this then! The Working Mans Pilsner is aptly named, it's not a complex brew but is light at 5.0% abv and refreshing. The go down easy and won't leave an after taste of bitter or hops in your mouth. The Soul Ride IPA is a more complex body, stout and hoppy, but has mild overtones of citrus, at 6.7% or so abv it's more a sipping conversation beer. I plan on trying more, I've just got stuck on my favs here. The brewery is home to the Fountain of Squares webisodes as well, projector and sound are brought out to let everyone watch, which are very funny. While being artists in their own right with their brew, they have done wonderful in creating an open, warm, creative and inspiring space where you can attend several events and hear many great bands play. Went here for the Grand Opening last night. We took a cab from our place downtown. Be warned, the cab driver had real difficulty finding this place and we all wound up using our Iphones to get us there, as we just moved here from Chicago a few months ago and we aren't familiar with this neck of the woods (yet). It is set back from the main street in a big warehouse. Glad we managed to find our way! The place was completely packed and basically standing room only with two sectional couches off to the side of the tapping room, as well as a few scattered bar stools. Visited for the first time this weekend and kicking myself for not coming sooner. This is definitely, by FAR, my FAVORITE brewery in town (sorry for the caps but it was just that damn good!). We had the flights and there was not a single beer I didn't love. The location itself is so badass. Between the loungy seats and the artwork and the adorable dogs that people brought in, there was no better place I wanted to be that day. Beer: 6/5 - heck yeah!! A small homey brewery perfect for that cold snowy afternoon. A couple weeks ago, I told my wife, while we looked outside at the heavy snowfall, that on a day like today, what sounded best was heading to a brewery to sip on some local brews while the elements took their toll outside. Lo and behold, a few days later, during another snowfall, I did just that. I knew that Fountain Square had a new chocolate milk stout that I wanted to try, so I called a friend and met him for a couple of drinks. Such a quaint and comfortable place to visit. While we hung out and chatted, quite a few people strolled in to fill growlers or to have a pint. I got hungry while I drank, so I left my glass right there and ran across the street to B's Po Boy and brought in a sandwich to satisfy my hunger. Plus, as a higher alcohol content beer, I wanted to make sure I put some protein in my belly while I sipped. I look forward to my next visit. I look forward to all my visits to the local breweries though. On a side note, I also appreciate that they dont seem to compete with each other much, and rather compliment each other more. And promote each other. See, beer really does bring people together! read more

Awesome brewery! I love how open it is, plus there are all kinds of different seating options (at the bar, in bar stools around high tables, lower seating at a table, and a several lower couches with a coffee table type feel). They offer quite a variety of beers made on site - all are between $4.50 and $5.50 per pint (very reasonable). I love all of their bright colored artwork showcasing their different beers. The owners are very nice and personable, and they even reserved a section of the brewery for us on a Friday night to accommodate my birthday party. I'll say up front that I don't drink beer. I took my parents here as a tour of Indy. My dad likes craft beers so I figured a local brew co would be interesting for him. He had a fun time trying a sampler. The paintings on the wall crack me up. The dudes that work here are really knowledgeable and are cool to talk to. The one guy thought I was a freak of nature that I don't drink beer but he was good natured about it. My favorite brewery in Indy. It's just around the corner from Fountain Square. Try the pilsner or the Hop for Teacher, those are my favorites. They have flights, pints and growler-fills (and on Sundays). If you ask nice, they will also do 1/2 pints for you. Great staff and very knowledgeable. They take a great deal of pride in their beer. The are also proud of their lab, which is unusual to have in a small brewery. They have pizza that delivers to the brewery. "No Name Pizza" . It's not bad, if it is "fresh". If you see it delivered and are hungry, try some. Otherwise, find out how long it has been in the warmer. They also feature different artists each month and have various special events thru out the year. Give it a try. read more

This is my Sunday location of Choice.... why Sunday? They have a TV with football on it, it's $5 growler fill days, and they always have fresh beer on tap. I often visit here with my neighbors for a few drafts and always end up getting some Nameless Pizza slices also. The Beer is amazing. It's arguably the best beer in all of Indianapolis. I'm a big fan of Hop for Teacher, a wonderfully constructed IPA that they always have on tap. After a beer I get a slice of Nameless Pizza for $2.75 (cash only!) and sometimes even splurge on a Sugar, inc Tiny Cake! So, I'm a nerd. I studied politics in college, and I've really been waiting to use a potentially inappropriate reference in my Yelp review. Fortunately, FSB gives me a chance to combine the best of both worlds! In 1964, Justice Potter Stewart gave his opinion on Jacobellis v. Ohio, a Supreme Court case which weighed whether or not pornography/obscenities are protected speech. He said that he cannot present an articulate definition on what hardcore pornography is, but he "knows it when he sees it." With that being said (wait for it...) I'm not sure if I can articulately define what it means to be cool, or to be hip, but I know it when I see it. FSB is COOL. Live music, access to some of the movers and shakers in Indianapolis, a food truck parked outside, great atmosphere, quirky interior decorating and GREAT BEER that'll knock you on your ass, FSB is the pub/bar of the future. Or if you live in Chicago/Seattle/any other major City, this is your expectation of a great bar (YES, Indy is a few years behind!) With that being said, I left FSB impressed. I tried probably every beer, and I was even given a lesson on what an "India Pale Ale" is, and why they taste so "different" The Amber was one of the best beers that I've ever had, which isn't saying much coming from a person not too far removed from his days of Natty Light, but still significant! If you're looking to impress some one with your knowledge of beer, live music venues, or anything else for that matter, you'll get a guaranteed +50 points for bringing them to FSB. **NOTE** The only bad thing is they close so early! It was about 12:30 and they had last call. Bummer. read more

I was in town for work and wanted to try some local craft beer. I'm glad we ended up at Fountain Square Brewing. The bartender was super friendly and very helpful in describing the beers. Flights are $5. Yeah you heard me right only $5. This is unheard of. Wanting to sample them all we each ordered one. He even through in an extra beer for us to sample. We stuck around for a couple more beers and then the bartender and a local customer helped us out with some dinner recommendations. On the way out he handed me some a bunch of the brewery stickers. Three stars for beer, four for space, location, price, and events. To be fair, I'm a huge hop head, so a lot of my beer reviews are heavily influenced by how much I like a brewery's IPA. The Soul Ride IPA here is a little flat - regular decent beer flavor with a bitter finish. The porter, which is not my usual MO, is pretty fabulous. All their beers are definitely drinkable, and $5 growler fills on Sunday bump things up a notch. The space is great - a large warehouse in Fountain Square where you can see art, attend First Friday events, and check out local bands. Thumbs up there. The new Batch 13 IPA, an unfiltered, first IPA from them, is divine. Huge mango and apricot, with great underlying bitterness. Stopped in this past weekend for First Friday for the first time. My boyfriend and his family love FS beer and they almost always have Workingman's Pilsner in a growler, so it wasn't my first time having their beer, but it was my first time at the brewery. I really, really liked it! Roomy and comfy interior with lots of seating. Love all the local art too. Good variety of beers, and each one that I've had is delicious. My only qualm about my past visit is that we only ordered three beers but were charged for four. My own fault.. didn't realize this until I already paid. I'm sure it was an honest mistake, and definitely won't stop me from going back! I also like the thought of getting a pizza from Nameless Pizza delivered here and enjoying my favorite fare of pizza and beer. Will definitely go back - can't wait! read more

Constantly great brews. The FSQ Pilsner is going to be my pool beer of the summer. Especially now that it is in bottles. I've yet to have a seasonal that didn't fit the style. Some haven't been my favorite, but they definitely know what they're doing when it comes to brewing. Pilsner, Big Nuggets, Hop Your Face, Shelby St. Strong, and Hop for Teacher, oh and 2112 are ones that really stick out in my mind, Be careful on $5 dollar Sundays. The line can get a bit long but they're extremely efficient with usually 2 people working the growler station. read more

This place is great. It's essentially a tasting room with a small bar, some chairs and couches, and a big open area with a garage door, as it used to be a warehouse. It would benefit from a handful of cocktail tables in the empty space, and hopefully in the summer they will open the garage door to food trucks. The decor is very simple and easy on the eyes - concrete floor, aluminum siding used as the ceiling, very modern and minimalistic. The beertenders are fantastic - my friend and I each received a sample of all of their beers. That made it easy for getting a pint and filling my growler. I thought all the beer was good, not unbelievable, but tasty nonetheless. I really enjoyed the Winter Warmer with nutmeg. I'll be back to see what they have going on in the future, for sure. read more

A bit difficult to find, but worth it. I drove to Fountain Square to get a $5 Sunday growler. It took me at least 10 minutes to find the actual brewery because it is near, but not in, the actual square. It is in a building that used to change carburetors so it has a lot of garage doors on the side. Despite it being the color sunshine yellow it can be hard to see. Other than that, I LOVE THIS PLACE! 'Hop for Teacher' is soooo good. It reminds me of Three Floyds' Gumballhead beer with notes of passionfruit, but it is the first taste instead of the finishing taste. Yum. It is my new favorite! It is also cool that one can sit down inside and have a glass of beer. You cannot do that at Sun King...but at Sun King you get free samples so.... PROS: delicious, open on Sunday, fun youthful vibe indoors CONS: difficult to find, sometimes parking is a very minor issue, no sample day (to my knowledge) read more

Literally - THE BEST FLIGHT I've ever had! The sizes of the flight were smaller than most, but the beers served were fantastic, so it's inevitable that I'll return for a few pints. They had a coffee infused amber that was probably the most surprising of all... usually ambers are malty, but this one was not, rather just a hint of coffee and so delicious! The backyard porter was a product of a brewer that knows what they are doing, same same in the soul side IPA. The resilience was fantastic, etc etc etc... every beer and even meads were about the best lineup I've come across - top to bottom there wasn't a beer I wouldn't recommend. If you're not into beer, then be the DD, play some pinball and drink an in-house made root beer, because for the beer drinker, this is a must try and they need a ride! Pricing is $5-6 per pint. The beers at Fountain Square Brewing are solid. I love that you can order a pint or tasters. I feel like almost every time I'm here, I see someone I know - it's that kind of neighborhood joint. They have some great seasonals so make sure you check them out. And $5 Sunday growler fills - yes! Honestly, I find it a little bit annoying that they have posters of stereotypical women like "Preacher's Daughter", "Hot Teacher", etc. With microbreweries, I can typically avoid supporting the kind of crappy sexist marketing that some of the macrobreweries have been putting out for years. Of the breweries in Indy, this is my favorite. First, the beers are honest. High quality and interesting. The staff and ownership (Bill rocks) are top notch and super friendly. The space, while in an old car repair shop hidden off the road behind a new construction project, is gorgeous. Nice lighting and decor (love the art work representing some of their beers on the wall) and the bar is unique and lovely. Good lounge seating. We start out here around 6ish, decent crowd, no hipster overload (later) get the flight, like the porter the best, settle on a soul ride. Service good, attentive, clientele mellow yellow, decor hip, open clean, the brewery is in plain view for all to see through the giant roll up door. Dog friendly. I like what's going on here. Instead of the conventional formula most craft brewers follow when they first open, FSB is taking some chances and trying some different beers. I'm primarily a pale drinker but I didn't love their IPA or APA. They were decent, and on par with other breweries in the area, but not great. I did think the Amber and the Coffee Stout were a bit better than similar brews from other local joints. As others have said, $5 growler fills on Sundays is great. That said, I will probably wish they had earlier Sunday hours this fall when football season starts. It would be nice to get some fills on my way to tailgate. If we have 4 o'clock or Sunday night games, the Noon opening won't be a problem. Considering the Colts were 2-14 this season, however, I'm not counting on anything but 1 PM kickoffs.
