We celebrated my daughters birthday at The Fountain Lounge right before the ballet across the street. Very convenient location and great atmosphere at the Roosevelt Waldorf. It was the best hotel restaurant I've ever been too. Great French cuisine and lots of variety. We tried Foie Gras for first time! Really liked it! It came on top of prosciutto with orange glaze and thin slice of homemade gingerbread - lots of textures and unique blend of flavors. For appetizers we also had a beautiful and delicious charcuterie board with cheeses, fruit spreads, dried fruit and candied nuts; Pear and Warmed Goat Cheese salad; and their homemade breads with three types of butter. They even brought out great toasted gluten-free multigrain bread for me. The Chef is very good about accommodating allergies. They have a lot of "gluten-free" dishes clearly marked on their menu and are very good about changing dishes slightly to accommodate a gluten-free need as well without compromising on flavor. For our main dish we had a unique twist on the classic French "steak and frites". The steak was very tender flavorful slices of sirloin, and the "frites" was sort of like layered potatoe slices and cream square. The chef made the night very special by bringing out a personalized Red Velvet birthday cake for my daughter, a dessert that came very recommended. My kids said they thought it was the best they have ever had - lots of flavor but not too sweet. They even had a gluten-free chocolate lava cake. It was a wonderful dinner! read more

Speaking on behalf of many customers at the time when my partner and I dined here, I can safely say that they were very understaffed because we got served very late, waited for a long time to get our food, and had to ask many times for our needs to be met. Even though we were in a good spirit, I could see how the lack of service would drive other customers mad. Since we decided to not go for fried chicken on that day (Monday), we were told that we could only order the soup or the salad, so we ordered all 3 of them. The la salade maison, which really just meant house salad in French, was okay, because it was just a mixture of watery vegetables, which would be very hard to say that it's exceptionally good. The pear salad had so much arugula and definitely not enough pears for the price. The goat cheese was crispy fried pretty well, though. Finally, the gumbo was too oily and watery, as the roux wasn't sufficient in defining the texture of the dish. It also didn't have enough rice, chicken, or andouille in general. My partner did not like its flavor, citing that it didn't have the right kinds of seasoning. While I understand that for those that have credits, this may be one of the few restaurants in the hotel where the credits can apply, I still wouldn't recommend it here. The only grace I will give is that it looked like people's fried chicken dishes were tasty, even if I did not have any. Presentation was poor and frankly unappetizing (potatoes with the omelette looked careless), which immediately lowered expectations. No dish felt finished or thought through. ‍ Service -- Absolutely unacceptable. Silent water delivery, no engagement, plates dropped randomly -- not even to the person who ordered. Staff appeared untrained and disengaged. This was not just weak service; it actively detracted from the experience. Ambience -- Nothing special. Tables are too close together, the room is loud, and the space lacks character or intimacy. Fine at best, but not pleasant. Drinks -- The cocktail was good and well executed. Easily the strongest part of the visit. We had to order room service since we checked in late so I cannot talk about the presentation and the ambiance. However, we loved the pork chop and the sides. My husband also liked the burger though I don't think it was anything special hence the 4 stars. I think the true highlight for me was their famous Roosevelt beignets! You can also get this from the Teddy Cafe, that's also located inside the Roosevelt Hotel. But it was the best one I've ever had! Just enough crisp on the outside and soft doughy inside! This is in the lobby of The Roosevelt Waldorf-Astoria hotel we had breakfast here several times during our stay. Each time, Lukisha (hostess) greeted us and seated us with such a cheerful smile and friendly hospitality. Gerryelle (waitress) was also cheerful and attentive. Coffee came out right away. We did the buffet because it was amazing and includes the unbeatable omelette station with Michelle. The first day I was mesmerized and spent a good five minutes just watching her take orders for omelettes while cooking on three burners and getting every single order right. The omelettes were beautiful and served hot. I have no idea how Michelle was able to take individual orders and cook at the same time. We really loved the vibe of this restaurant--so clean, comfortable seating, lively but not too loud, nice jazz music (not live) playing in the background. I would love to tell you how great this place is. Honestly. Would. I'd love to say that everything tasted amazing. Sadly, I cannot. After waiting 30 minutes for a table, everything we wanted on the menu was unavailable. They were out of each item we tried to order. After several tries, we Thought we'd finally ordered at least a desert they had available (Wanted the Walnut Toffee Tart, no luck) so the Chocolate lava cake that's served with the vanilla ice cream it was to be! Well, we were later told that they were out of vanilla ice cream. (Who runs out of vanilla ice cream!?? lol) It was apparently a busy day/night. So, I can only tell you that our Server was patient and friendly. He was honestly great. (Thanks Jimmy, you earned them the star) The restaurant itself was quite loud. There was a live singer and piano player, who were very good. But the noise level from the other patrons was at a level that you couldn't give them (the entertainers) the attention they deserved. This threw off the nice ambiance you would expect here. We did order one of the holiday drinks, the Cookie Cocktail and decided when offered to try the Chocolate Lava Cake with strawberry ice cream. I can now give you an honest review of these two items. The Chocolate Lava Cake was a couple of things. The first being, cold. The second being that it contained nothing that could be called lava. It was more like a round, cold, dense chocolate muffin-like desert. I didn't like it at all. The Cookie Cocktail was however after the first couple of sips, was slightly better. It took a minute to be palatable. Tasted a bit medicine like initially. All in all, I'd pass on this lounge and hit one of the others in the area. We were staying at the Roosevelt, so opted to try it. Now we know. We were quite dissatisfied and disappointed. Expected much more from a Lounge in a Waldorf Astoria Hotel. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences I had in NOLA. It started with the service. We were helped very swiftly and given the best recommendations. Our waitress, Shalayia, was absolutely fabulous. We were staying at the Roosevelt and had to give the Fountain Lounge a try. We were seated quickly and after reviewing the menu felt the options were rather limited. We ended up having the Grilled Redfish and Hanger Steak Fritters. The grilled redfish was great and surprisingly it came with shrimp. While the lounge was not crowded and there was no one other than my husband and myself waiting to be seated, it took the more than sufficient staff longer than 10 minutes to seat us. There was absolutely no greeting or response to my greeting. We ordered coffee, and by the time we chased someone down for cream, the coffee was no longer hot. A young woman asked (almost under her breath) if we were ready to order. We gave her our orders, and she walked away. Her attitude almost seemed bothered even though we were as kind as we could be (I never express dissatisfaction in eateries for fear my food might suffer). Fortunately, things picked up, and the young woman who refilled our coffee was very kind as well as the gentleman who served us our meal. While visiting NOLA and staying near this beautiful hotel we stopped in on our last day for breakfast. When we got there, there was only one couple currently dining and two servers standing around chatting with each other... they looked over at us waiting at the entrance a couple of times, but still seemed to wait a minute before greeting us and directing us to a table. From there on, service was great though. Their menu is nice, some of the basic breakfast items, but also some items unique to the area. The items we chose were actually nicely prepared and tasty. Their egg white andouille omelet was great! But the biscuit I got with it was a rubbery mess, like it was heated up in a microwave, definitely wasn't fresh. The breakfast potatoes were really tasty though. Overall, it's a basic "hotel breakfast" and nothing special enough to warrant coming here from another luxury hotel to experience. read more

Stayed at The Roosevelt & ate at the Fountain Lounge four times. Our first night here we tried the crawfish fondue & it was delicious! What a great recipe! Compliments to the chef on this one! My husband had the burger, which was just okay, and I had the salad with grilled chicken, which was on the small side but very tasty. We had the breakfast buffet the next morning, and it was fabulous! Made to order omelets, and everything else you can thing of to go with them! I especially Loved the Brie with dried fruit and nuts. We went back Monday expecting the buffet only to find out it's just on the weekends. How did no one mention this!!!. I had a bagel instead, but my husband really enjoyed the big breakfast to include the fruit and beignets. I ended up saving one of the beignets and enjoyed it in the room that night with a cup of hot tea. It was right up there with the rest of the beignets in town, pretty darn good. The next morning my husband had the crawfish omelet breakfast. He said it was okay, but I noticed he didn't finish it. I had the grits with cheese & they were magnificent, along with a bowl of berries that were very tasty as well. I don't remember all of the servers names, but I remember the best, Camilla, she was amazing! She was so friendly and efficient with attention to every detail. We didn't have her on the last day & ended up asking twice for a hot water refill for tea, and to my husband's disappointment a warm-up of coffee was never offered. The hostess, April, was never pleasant, never gave a proper greeting, and NEVER smiled, but ANY help is impossible to find right now so I imagine that's why it's tolerated. Because of this, one unfocused server, and a sparse dinner menu I give it 3 Yelp stars however, "some" of the food is definitely at a 5 Yelp star level! The Fountain Lounge has a lot of good things going for it, but a tiny bit more attention (ask for customer feedback) could make it great. read more

Searching for a place to eat on a busy Saturday night in NOLA landed us here. It wasn't our first choice but lots of places were full and walking around with a toddler is challenging enough. Not a large menu with under a dozen items to choose from. They do have an extensive wine menu though. I don't get to eat blue crab often so when I can find it on the menu I'm going for it. Caviar was a fancy touch. The toast itself was a little overdone for me. Hence why I could t give us a 5 star review. We're staying at the Roosevelt. Got in late on Friday and didn't want to leave the hotel. Went to the Fountain lounge. Great locale, definite ambience, really good food, lousy service. I do t know if it's that they have too few staff for a busy time of year, or if the staff is new, or if they know they're in such a popular site folks can take it or leave it - but really bad service. We made the mistake of popping in tonight (Saturday) after having dinner at Antoine's (superb). We got a table after a ten minute wait, and then no waiter even came to the table. We left after 12 minutes. After two bad nights - this place is definitely thumbs down. read more

Dined at the bar Tuesday night. I had a few excellent cocktails my endive salad was so delicious!! bartender was very good and my steak was cooked perfectly. The potatoes were actually seasoned well and I don't even like mashed potatoes but they were good! The truffle potato chips were so excellent!!! The asparagus was very dry and not tasty they were not prepared or cooked properly and that's the only complaint. Our waitress had the personality of a dead fish. We asked her to take a pic of us and you would've thought we asked her to sacrifice her first born child. She didn't smile and barely spoke. We ordered drinks which didn't come until we finished eating and they were awful. You'd think a staple hotel in New Orleans would know exactly how to make a bloody mary and an old fashioned but no. My daughters ordered the buffet and really enjoyed it. I ordered the fried shrimp and green tomatoes and that was tasty. We weren't crazy about the atmosphere though. The lights were too bright, the leather seating was falling apart and the side chairs were too low for the table. While the food was decent, everything else about the experience ruined our meal. I'm from New Orleans and really expected a lot more from the Roosevelt. Unless it's entirely revamped, we probably will never dine here again. Far to many better options in the city. read more

I came here to have the fried chicken. It's Monday only. This chicken is wonderful. The way it ought to be. The wonderful chef, Carl, will let you take his picture. This stuff is what legends are made of. Hats off to Carl. Folks, this is the most delicious fried chicken you could have. With the creamiest, most flavorful red beans and rice, hot and fluffy honey butter biscuits and perfect Cole slaw. They match all of this up with a beer included in the price. You are eating the best fried chicken meal, in the Waldorf Astoria, in an elegant room while the pianist sings and plays like velvet. Eternal art. This is a must do. A unique experience. Not good. Only reason we went was to use food credit. The food is very average. The service was not great and neither was the ambiance.

The breakfast here is not up to snuff for such a posh hotel; just your usual very average Hilton breakfast with potatoes that came out of the freezer and egg dishes that are ...meh. Really, we could have been in Iowa. Service was untrained. I had to ask for silverware after our food was delivered to the table, there was no check back and little presence on the floor of any staff, and no manager at all. The music that was playing was great old time New Orleans jazz, but was competing with the music in the lobby. Both were loud enough that it was really making me crazy. The lounge, as has been noted by other Yelpers, is quieter in the evenings than the Sazerac Bar, so not a bad place to get a drink. They just really need to rethink the foodservice here. read more

We stopped in here for drinks and appetizers after checking out the iconic Roosevelt hotel and as the common theme has been here in NOLA, the food and service were both outstanding. We were drawn by the beautiful interior of the restaurant with a lively jazz band playing. One side of the restaurant is open allowing a view of the gorgeous Roosevelt lobby and another side is occupied by a long elegantly decorated bar. The band was playing on the far side opposite to the hotel entrance and kept our shoes tapping and a smile on our face. Our server was friendly, professional and knowledgeable about gf items on the menu. We ordered drinks and just shared the brussels sprouts appetizer before heading back out to continue our nom conquest of NOLA. The brussels sprouts had an incredible glaze on them and were cooked to perfection. While it was a short little dining experience, the food we had was one of the top meal experiences of our trip. Excellent service, great portions, and similar prices to other restaurants in the area. All in all, a win. read more
