We walked in the Foto Shop door at 9:30 (which, it turns out, is 30 minutes after it actually opens) and were at the post office at 9:44, photos in hand! I WISH I COULD GIVE SIX OR SEVEN STARS. I've employed Foto Shop's services three times. With every visit I have been increasingly impressed. The employer/owner has been with me every step of the way throughout a very tedious, bureaucratic mess that is the Spanish government and consulates. First Visit: fast, efficient, friendly. Second Visit: just as fast, and the friendliness only increased. I had a conversation with the man working - I forget his name but I think he's the owner. He informed me of information I had been searching for and no one else had been able to help me with. The last thing he said was a warning about a document that may give me trouble. Several months later his advise proved correct. No one else had informed me as accurately as he. Third Visit: I informed him that I needed to redo some of the work we had previously done because the Spanish Consulate is a mess. I say" we" because I genuinely felt like we were on the same team or something. He was closing in five minutes and didn't have time to do the time sensitive service (he has another job!!!!...I don't know how he does it). HE CALLED HIS WIFE IN TO DO THE WORK FOR ME. I don't think anything else could speak for his kindness and dedication. (She is lovely and oh so sweet by the way). Foto Shop: I am a fan. I came here for two passport photos for an EAD. The location is very convenient. It took about 5 to 10 minutes. The service was good and the guy was very knowledgeable, he even knew I had to write some stuff on the back of the pictures for an EAD. It was $11 for two passport pictures. Bought: 3 2x2 passport photos (But I got 4) Price: ~$20 (slightly less) Experience: Amazing. The man (didn't catch his name) was very friendly and there was only a 10 min wait because 2 people were in front of me. I was expecting the whole process to take at least an hour, but I got in and out in about 20-30 minutes. I asked for three photos but he gave me four (I think it's because the printer prints out the photos in pairs.) The photos were very clean, high quality images and he makes sure that you get the photos you need for the specific purpose you need them for. (Ex if you're going to Russia there are certain things you can't have in the photos etc) I was slightly put off because of how expensive it was for 3 small photos, but I know this is my fault because I needed them printed and mailed today. I would highly recommend calling ahead to see if it's cheaper to make an appointment. Age old lesson I will never learn: don't wait till last minute to do everything. I had to mail my photos but didn't have any stamps and he gave me one of his own for free (he even checked how much I needed for postage). He even offered an envelope, but I already had one on hand. I let him keep the change from my $20 (which I usually don't do) because he was just so darn nice and efficient. I will definitely come back if I ever need photos/notary/etc because my experience here was stellar. read more

I had gotten atrocious passport photos taken at another photo place in Berkeley. I decided to try again and after checking yelp, I found the Foto Shop. They just did some amazing passport photos. I am incredibly happy with the pictures. They are honestly some of the best pictures I have seen of myself recently. I did not realize that they also do live scan here and print greeting cards. Foto shop has a friendly and extremely knowledgeable notary. I used to think that knowledgeable notary is an oxymoron-- what knowledge does one need to put a stamp and a date on a signature? I needed to do a power attorney to be used in foreign country, the notary told me that many foreign countries have trouble with notarization that has a stamp on the second page and nothing on the first page (this is something that is absolutely standard in California but not acceptable in many other places), he also had a lot of other useful advice about how to make sure that my power of attorney is valid... I later learned that if not for his advice my power of attorney most likely would have not been valid. read more

That woman just conned me. I came in for 2 pictures I paid 10 dollars and I left without the pictures. I came in and the woman was talking on the phone, after a couple of minutes I made the sign of a picture and she indicated for me to sit. She made the picture (still on the phone) and later she asked me which picture I wanted. After a couple of minutes asked me to come a write my email address. I thought how nice of her to send them also by email. Made me paid 10 dollars and then said that it was done. When I asked for my copies she replied that she's send them by email. I replied that I came here for 2 physical pictures and that I already paid 10 dollars, and she says that copies will be 8,50$ ... I didn't want them sent by email! I wanted tangible pictures that I can give to the embassy. She literally charged 10 dollars for sending them by email. She never said that emailing them was gonna cost me 10 dollars, it is not even on the chart of prices!!! I know the cost of taking pictures 10,50$ not only is on their chart of prices but also I came in the day before and I paid that, however the pictures were rubbish and I had to come back for a new one. If I wanted a digital copy I can scan it myself. Rarely I write big negative reviews, but this was not bad service, this was a scam. In the event of an apocalypse if I need a picture taken as a matter of life and death, and they are the only ones doing it, then and only then I would go in, and when the woman says 'hello' I will ask her how much will she charge me just for replying to that. read more
