Digital Roots scanned 50+ rolls of heirloom 35 mm slide film for me and did an amazing job. The quality is excellent, they handled everything carefully, the files were labeled the same way the physical slide boxes were labeled . . this was such a relief for something so valuable to me and my family. I deeply appreciate the care they take. No, it's not the fastest, but was not far off the estimate they provided, and they did say they were busy. I wasn't in a rush and was glad to have somewhere local to drop off the slides. I will use them for future archival needs. Highly recommend. read more

They converted an old audio cassette to MP3 for me. Every aspect was professional and friendly.

An excellent experience from start to finish. Highest recommendation. Andrea and Sean are the best! I can't imagine trusting anyone else with our crusty ol' analog stuff. :) read more

Six stars if that were possible. Digital Roots did a great job on our VHS, 8mm, and mini-DV tapes, as well as some 35mm slides.

I can't say enough great things about Digital Roots. I turned hundreds of slides and a few audio tapes (high school choir, weeeeeee!) into digital. The quality is outstanding and the team was easy to work with. Any time I speak to someone who has slides they don't know what to do with, I refer them to Digital Roots. Thanks for taking such care of my memories!! read more

Recently had 90+ Super8 reels from the 70's/80's digitized by DRS. They are patient, beyond helpful, accommodating, transparent, and went above and beyond what was expected -- I wanted HD scans, which were provided, but since the quality of my films was often poor, they also gave me a full set of scans at 720 resolution (those seemed to generate fewer visible artefacts from substandard source material) -- and this was done at no extra charge. End result was great and I can't recommend them highly enough if you are in the area. read more

I contracted DRS for conversion of mini-DV tapes and a few VHS tapes that were over 25 years old. I am incredibly happy with the results and the overall experience. Andrea was great to work with- during our initial conversation she explained the process, the expected charges, and the forecasted turn around times. She also described the pros/cons of the media storage options and file types. The written estimate was provided same day. The final charges were lower than the original estimate and the conversion work was completed ahead of schedule. I highly recommend. read more

Knowledgeable about unusual formats and able to digitize everything I brought them from 1960s film to 1990s video. Lovely humans. Convenient on Solano. read more

Digital Roots went above and beyond to help me convert Sony Mini Disc files of conversations with my grandparents to a listenable format, when others hadn't been able to help me. Suffice it to say that my grandfather died back in 2007 so this had been on my to do list for almost 20 years... I'm so appreciative that they helped me solve such a difficult problem! read more

I'm so happy with the results of my Mom's 1965 graduation concert on an audio reel she happened to find. When we played the CD for her it brought her to tears as she had not heard the recording when it was originally made. She is 90 years young and was so moved you can see her move her fingers across the piano as she remembered every song played for an hour straight. Thank you so much Sean and Andrea for bringing such joy to my Mom!!!! read more

Digital Roots has always been a great resource for my team at work and for personal scanning of family slides, negatives, documents etc. I recommend them often and assure you that your search is over, these folks are the best. Also, the last batch of scanning was dropped off and I swear they called me on my way home saying it was done? OK maybe it was a few days but it did seem that way! read more

We were extremely pleased with the work done for us by this studio. The quality of the images they transferred from family slides exceeded our expectations, frankly. The prices were reasonable. They communicated clearly and promptly concerning the process, timeline etc. And, they responded quickly to our questions. We are quite confident in the care they gave to our "treasures." read more

Absolutely fabulous. Turned all my old VHS and cassette tapes to digital format. Excellent service.

These folks are the best! They digitized tons of our old home videos, and they did it quickly with amazing customer service. So glad we found them and didn't have to use one of the bigger services that charge more for worse service. Highly recommend! read more

My goal was to declutter and digitize! Digital Roots helped me achieve my goals! They scanned over 12 photo albums. Color corrected so the images no longer look faded. And kept all the images in order. They are very professional and pleasant. read more

Their work is outstanding. The video for my husbands home going celebration was everything I wanted and more. Tears were flowing. They also downloaded the Live Stream Service on a flash (permission was given from the Church). I would highly recommend their services! read more

I had a 35-year-old cassette tape of an interview with a family member. In my case, I didn't want them to clean it up, although this may be a service that they offer. I just wanted the tape converted to a digital file, which they did very quickly and at an extremely reasonable price. When I got two files - reflecting the "A" and "B" sides of the tape, I asked if these could be merged sequentially, and they sent a new combined file immediately. I couldn't ask for better service. read more

Quick, easy and friendly service. They restored a wedding video and quince video for me and they both came out great! Thanks again

This family owned business is too notch. They were able to provide a truly amazing slide show for a life celebration that my whole family was thoroughly impressed by. Everyone was asking for their info as we all have memories that we need to have archived to pass on to our next generations. I couldn't recommend them any higher! read more

Found almost 50 year old movie reels of our son as a toddler and brought them here for conversion to digital. Very fast and friendly folks. Provided a DVD and also emailed downloadable files. The videos are just as I remembered. read more

With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting a lot of people, i had some time to transfer some old school VHS break-dancing videos I captured from 1996-2002. This place was able to transpose all of my content (4hrs worth) directly to DVDs (4xDVDs). I was also able to pay for electronic copies (mP4) that was sent via WeTransfer, This way i can have these memories for a lifetime. They make the process very easy. Mail or Curb Side Drop off or Pick Up (option i selected). I'm not sure how the pricing is, but I thought it was a good rate considering VHS is less used these days. I would recommend Digital Roots Studio for anyone who wants to relive some lifetime moments forever, thank you Digital Roots Studio! read more

Sean and Andrea were great to work with. They took my old VHS tapes, digitized them, and uploaded the files to a secure server. Communication was excellent, price was fair and I'll certainly be back again. Thanks! read more

Man oh man, do Sean and Andrea continue to support and amaze! In the past month they have made a VHS tape from 30 years ago watchable on modern media, and even saved me with a work project when a DVD was required instead of the more current youtube link. However you need your media archived, they are the ones to do it. The have managed small and large jobs with practical finesse, and a personal touch. It's a business that cares and understands the value of the items you place in their possession. They treat each customer as a friend and take the jobs given as seriously as if it were their own precious baby videos on film that needed to be preserved. If you're researching which company to use, stop now. You've found the best one out there. read more

I had several hundred family photos I wanted to share with my two sisters and wanted a professional scanning service that did great work and was reasonably priced: I found that and more with Digital Roots Studio. They carefully scanned each photo and, as an unexpected bonus, labeled each group of photos as I had (something I had done to organize the photos for myself, not expecting they would take the time to add these labels to each group). This made it super easy for me to then quickly create a slideshow to share at a family event--a huge hit. They also scanned each photo "right side up," which not all scanning services do. The husband-&-wife team of DRS were also very responsive to my questions & provided me great tips on how to best organize my photos. I highly recommend them! read more

Just had them duplicate a couple of DVDs of home video for me. Quick turn-around. Flawless job.

I needed to have my old home camcorder tapes transferred over to a few flash drives to share between my siblings and I. I sent a message to Digital Roots and received a quick response. I was able to drop off all 12 tapes and received a call back saying everything was done 2 days later. I was able to make the payment online prior to picking them up. Everything was so quick and easy. My brother, sister and I will forever be grateful to have easy access to look back at our most favorite memories with our loved ones who are no longer here. Thank you so much for your service. read more

In April, after my father in law passed away, we had 35 carousels of my in-law's slides we wanted digitized for all the family to enjoy . Our daughter found Digital Roots Studio through YELP, read the reviews , & most of all, looked for a reliable place to digitize these priceless slides . A place that wouldn't send out the slides, but digitize in house . Although we live 45+ minutes away, it was definitely worth the drive . Digital Roots did an awesome job digitizing these precious slides & and an audio tape ! Plus, it turns out the unlabeled reel to reel audio tape included my in-law's 1954 wedding . We also had them make a flash drive for each member of the family . This week I took my parents 3,000 + slides there as well. Can't say enough about Digital Roots Studio! read more

Had a bunch of old VHS tapes transferred to DVDs. Super-clear communication, and good results!

First, Sean and Andrea are incredibly nice and helpful. Second, they are also professional: they know they're stuff. I brought an old 8mm film for digitizing, and not only is the quality is excellent, but Digital Roots called me when it was ready (don't take that service for granted!). Let me say, I am also digitizing my family's 8mm films with a $400 commercial device, and the difference is night and day: the films from the Wolverine digitizer look like they were shot with a cheap 1990's cell phone. You can barely make out faces sometimes. It often takes me over an hour to digitize 5 minutes of film, because the DIY machine frequently jams, freezes, and looses frame alignment. Meanwhile, Digital Roots uses a top-of-the-line 8mm digitizer, and the film they made for me looks like, well, a movie, not a junky cell-phone capture of a television. See, I can't afford to digitize all 50 reels I've got, not until I know what is on them. But what is clear is that any movie of value (not the film a random neighbor's dog) will be brought to Digital Roots for proper digitizing, and it will be worth it. If you have any doubts, do one reel...then check it against the only cheap digitizer, the Wolverine 8mm, on YouTube. (Also, I asked about their slide scanner, and wow, they're using a Nikon 5000. Also a very high quality scanner that will really get the color in your Kodachromes.) read more

Digital Roots Studio - Awesome service, pleasant, and fast turn around - Photography Stores & Services Near Me - Albany, California

My parents had a collection of very old family photos (some dating back 50+ years) that existed only in printed-form. When my parents decided to move, I was worried that the pictures would either get damaged or potentially lost while in transit. I came across Digital Roots Studio on Yelp while searching for professional photo scanning services. From the very beginning, Andrea and her husband Sean were superb. They were very polite, professional and responsive. We met Andrea in November and dropped off about 20 photo albums. Andrea patiently reviewed with us the various scanning options along with the corresponding prices. Importantly, Andrea did not try to convince us to proceed with the more-expensive options. Rather, she sent us samples of the more-expensive vs. less-expensive scanning options and let us make our own decisions. Digital Roots also has some good equipment. One of my parents' old photo reels was in microfilm slides, or something along those lines. Andrea and Sean had the equipment to scan them. The customer service is absolutely fantastic as well. I did not have to go back to the store after dropping off my photos. Andrea and Sean sent me a hard disk with the scanned photos on them. I had all of them printed and gave them to my parents this past weekend as a gift. They were completely blown away. They hadn't seen some of those pictures in over 20 years. Overall, I highly recommend Digital Roots Studio. Zero regrets. read more

I LOVE DIGITAL ROOTS. I found a stash of dusty VHS tapes filled with dusty memories: birthday parties, graduations, my grandparents' wedding (transferred from a reel of film to VHS many years ago!!!) and wanted - nay, needed! - to rescue them. Thankfully, I found Digital Roots in Oakland, a business dedicated completely to the task of rescuing your old memories. Andrea helped me from start to finish, which was no small task. She transferred all the tapes to DVD, which took about a week. Only then did I realize that I could only edit and make copies of the footage for Grandma if it was copied from the VHS tapes to a hard drive. She then helped me figure out what kind of hard drive was best for digital images, what program to use to edit the footage, and how to send it to various family members (it's coming, Grandma!!!). She even let me ship my new hard drive directly to the store so that I didn't have to make an additional trip. In short, Andrea is a hero. The store itself is a little hard to find: it's half a block past the Chevron on the same side of Piedmont, next to Ride Oakland. Push buzzer #F to get buzzed inside. They give you estimates and email you when your files are ready. They are super friendly, super helpful, and I super recommend them. Thank you and you're welcome!! read more

How incredibly lucky am I to have found Sean and Andrea to help me out with an extremely time-sensitive need. With my Father's life expectancy being only weeks due to an aggressive cancer, I was in a mad rush to get a digital version of an old audio cassette tape, circa 1972, of my Dad and I talking together when I was 2 years old. My hope was to have him be able to hear and relive this memory before he passes. Being such sweet and kind souls, Andrea and Sean offered to rush it for me on a Saturday (today) and as such, I will be able to share this with my dad this weekend before it's too late. Andrea offered very kind words of support and empathy in addition to the digital conversion service. Truly an angel she is. Their gesture of kindness, customer service, and personable professionalism is unlike any other. I can't recommend them and their business enough for helping to preserve one's cherished family memories. read more

Absolutely love digital roots. I needed 7 vhs tapes transferred to dvds. Not only did they respond quickly via email, they also gave me the teacher's discount and charged me for five 2 hour vhs tapes and two 1 hour vhs tapes (when I told them I had seven 2 hour vhs tapes) since two of them ended up being shorter than an hour! They also gave me estimates beforehand, and emailed me promptly a week later. I definitely plan on getting more of my vhs tapes transferred to dvds from digital roots! read more

Am filled with gratitude towards these folks. They took incredible care in digitizing and improving the overall quality, of a very big order of very old slides (and some negatives and close to 50 reels of Super 8 film). Like from the '60s old (reels were from the '70s & '80s). Something I'd been saving up for years to do and was nervous to entrust to anyone (to not lose them or keep them for an extended length of time), to digitize these beautiful and greatly cherished pictures. You rock. I cannot recommend their services highly enough. It was nice to be able to drop off and not worry about things getting lost in the mail and their prices were the best I found. Big, big thank you. read more

They transferred 8mm film and a few old prints to digital. Unlike many similar online services this business does all transfer work in house. So there's less risk of your precious family analog memories getting lost in transit. read more

What a fantastic experience! I had an old vhs of a difficult-to-find British theatre production, and I wanted to convert it to dvd. This two-person team handled the order quickly. They rearranged their schedules several times to work with my own itinerary nonsense, and even waited twenty minutes for me when I was late for the pick-up. I tried to make up for the wait by tipping them, but they weren't interested in that at all. In fact, Andrea reeeally wanted to give me change after I paid for a $19.96 order with a twenty. She is just such a decent, friendly and hard-working person. My day was better after meeting her. :) In terms of my project I was so very pleased with their conversion of my vhs to dvd, and the extra effort they took to make me an extra copy when they felt that the printing on the cover of the dvd wasn't neat enough (I think it was perfect). I will never go anywhere else for my transfers. read more

I've taken several projects to Digital Roots over the last year and I have been very pleased with the care and quality of their work. I had a family reunion film from 1998 transferred from video cassette to DVD and several 16mm home movies from the 1940s-50 s transferred to various thumb drives. What a relief to have such precious artifacts of family history handled and preserved with such professional care. As I continue to sort through family storage units and discover more audio visual treasures, I know I can trust Digital Roots Studio to handle their preservation with the same care. read more
