What a fantastic experience! I had an old vhs of a difficult-to-find British theatre production, and I wanted to convert it to dvd. This two-person team handled the order quickly. They rearranged their schedules several times to work with my own itinerary nonsense, and even waited twenty minutes for me when I was late for the pick-up. I tried to make up for the wait by tipping them, but they weren't interested in that at all. In fact, Andrea reeeally wanted to give me change after I paid for a $19.96 order with a twenty. She is just such a decent, friendly and hard-working person. My day was better after meeting her. :) In terms of my project I was so very pleased with their conversion of my vhs to dvd, and the extra effort they took to make me an extra copy when they felt that the printing on the cover of the dvd wasn't neat enough (I think it was perfect). I am extraordinarily pleased. My mom has been wanting to scan some family photos for years, but has been too scared to hand them over to anyone with a professional quality scanner. So, my mom hands them off to me, I fly across the country with them, and what do I do? 100% Happy with these guys... We had 60 videos (+ one audio) in assorted formats of our family history (wedding, honeymoon, and tons of our 2 kids growing up). I called Andrea and she was wonderful - friendly, helpful, crystal clear about how they work - totally professional. Her phone manner and ability to gain my trust was very important, since I was going to be turning over some irreplaceable family memories to her. Because we had so many tapes, Andrea and Sean (they are a family team) picked up and delivered, and in both cases came exactly when they said they would. But the main thing - we now have all of our memories, expertly transferred, in a form that we can actually watch. They did a stellar job of transferring our material - we are so grateful we did this. Digital Roots pricing is very good, and their pricing policies are fair and thoroughly explained up front. I procrastinated doing this for years. Thought it would be too difficult, too this, too that. All the time I was procrastinating, memories were turning to dust as video tape did the inevitable and broke down. I had a couple VHS tapes laying around and I wanted to get them onto a hard drive so we wouldn't lose these memories. The service was great, I took in either 12 or 13 tapes on Tuesday around noon. I got an email on Thursday around 1 PM saying they were ready. I was shocked with how fast they were ready, since they told me about a week when I dropped them off. My sister passed in September 2014. I asked my cousin to put together a video for the memorial with the intention to include an audio tape of my sister and I from 1969. Outstanding experience! I brought in a large amount of 16mm, 8mm, and Hi8 film and some old VHS just after the holidays - footage of my parents in their youth dating back to the 1930s and 1940s. Andrea and Sean were great. Project was completed on its due date with the digital files and original materials all sorted and well organized - much better than when I brought everything in! The clarity of the digital files are excellent - definitely recommend HD transfer, it's worth it! One key affirmation of their integrity - they only charge for what they digitally transfer even if less than the initial estimate. In my case, a few of the 16mm reels were in very poor condition with advanced "vinegar syndrome" but rather than take a chance running that film through their machines and risk further damage beyond repair, they recommended I take those few reels to another studio which they knew had a different process and equipment which might work for this specific situation. Sure enough, it appears the damaged film will be mostly salvageable. I would recommend Digital Roots Studio without hesitation!!! read more

If I could give this place a million stars, I would! I came into the studio with probably the world's most complicated order. I had hours of wedding footage and thousands of pictures that needed to be transferred over to DVDs. They worked with me to figure out the best options to get my material copied over and even took the time to tell me what to do with the material that couldn't get copied over because of an error on my end. I seriously cannot stress how awesome these guys are! I think the prices are so reasonable for the amount of work that they do. I was so pissed when I left this place. I had 4 vhs tapes that I needed transferred to dvd. I was told it'd take 2 weeks and cost $90. I needed them within 1 week and she said she'd charged me an expedited fee of $90. $180 for 4 vhs tapes!!!! Hell no! So I left and took my tapes to Audio Visual consultants. Got my tapes within 24hrs and costs $42!!!! read more

I dropped off 33 reels of super 8 footage from the 70's and Sean at Digital Roots did an excellent job with this large order. I was a little surprised at first when I went to drop off the film and the address given was a UPS store...I didn't feel comfortable leaving all my treasured film with a clerk at the UPS store. I called them and Andrea came over right away, talked with me about the films and hand carried my order to be processed. Turn around time was fast, about a week for this large order. Sean was very email and phone available which (in my opinion) is the major advantage to using someone local rather than sending off your film to some massive anonymous film transfer center. I emailed with him about questions he had and specific request that I had, it all went really well. Final product was great. When I noticed that some of the images were flipped around, he immediately corrected and sent me a new disk by mail. Prices are competitive, but what you are paying for is being able to actually hand your family treasures to a person and then be able to call them for any reason surrounding your order. Great experience all around, I understand that they use a UPS store to keep their overhead costs down, I would use them again and I recommend them to you as well. read more

Gosh, no place to convert vhs to dvd in SF anymore so across the bridge I went. They did a perfect job transferring everything and even contacted me before they did one of the transfers because the vhs was screwed up and they didn't want to waste my money converting it. I also love that they archive things for 30 days in case you need to make adjustments, which they can then burn to dvd again for you without you bringing the vhs back. read more
