Very hard to find parking unless going to the parking structure. The lady taking the photo was nice and appeared competent. However, the physical space for taking passport photos is suboptimal given there's no control over the amount/balance of natural light versus artificial light. The result was a truly ghastly photo. I mapped my way to cvs for some prints, turns out it was in target and no photos. I then found these guys on Yelp, with great reviews. I should have read them. If I came here for passport services I would be stoked. But I just needed 6 prints. She said they could do them. She then printed one to make sure I liked it. Not a great copy, but I needed one today so figured I may as well. When I went to check out it was $38. For 6 crappy photos. I would have been ok if it was more reasonable. So go here for passport photos. They seem good at that. Don't make the mistake I did. read more

Not sure what the problem is with the woman who answered the phone, but when I asked about whether or not they masked I got a whole harangue about how they had doors and they were a business and there were people around and then she started to talk about rates. I've had notary services done here and it was efficient and quick. However, there can be a wait as there is generally only one person working the counter. He is very thorough, professional and polite. If you have to wait until someone gets a document notarized, this can be around 10 minutes, by the time the paperwork gets filled out and fingerprints are taken. I had a passport picture taken recently. I decided to come to Foto Shop mostly because there were rave reviews on Yelp about the quality of the pictures. But I wrote this review mostly to warn people. IT IS OKAY TO SMILE IN YOUR PASSPORT PHOTO. The primary staff person (I believe his name is Andrew) told me that I had to have a neutral expression (no smile) and also HAVE MY EARS SHOWING?!? I have long hair and I thought this was weird. Also this is my 4th passport and I have always smiled in my passport photo and I also didn't want to look like Alfred E. Neuman. I politely disagreed and debated this with him. He was quite adamant that these passport photo rules were correct. So I pulled up the U.S. Department of State's website and showed him that it says you must have "a neutral facial expression or a natural smile with both eyes open". In no section, did it say you had to have your ears showing!!!! Anyways, I took a normal photo (smiling) with my hair down. I was happy with the picture- and even happier that I don't have to have a passport with a picture that looks like a mug shot in it! read more

Passport photos remain for 10 years. Skip CVS, Walgreens and likes. I am so glad this place is still open. They took my photo quickly and it was done in 10 minutes. As a record, I did not hear a racist remark in my visit. (I'm Asian.) Whoever took care of me was a bit reserved but spoke professionally. Their posting say they can also do photo-to-photo transfer (when you don't have negatives), photo restoration, and photo and audio digitization. read more

Great service and the lowest price! $13 for 2 passport photos, versus $17-20 at places without equal equipment, lighting, or software. I dealt with an Indian man (the owner?) who was both personable and professional. He has a dedicated background and lighting setup (much better than the overhead fluorescents at CVS) and the software to produce photos that meet the passport specs of 130 countries, not just the US. You'll need to find street parking or use BART. I arrived at 10am, found parking nearby, put only 20 minutes on the meter and was fine. read more

I also had my passport photos taken here recently - what a step up over standing under a fluorescent light at Walgreen's! Wish I could select negative five starts. The women was so rude and aggressive and yelled at me. I just want to get my photo, but she kept showing me other people photo and didnt listen at all. SO much better than past experiences we've had at other places! We travel a lot so we've had a lot of passport photos taken, and this place was by far the best. Excellent service-- friendly, professional, fast, and the photos are well-priced. There was a mirror where we could check our appearances beforehand, and she took several photos so we could choose our favorite one. The photos were printed and ready within a couple minutes. I've been here over three successive visa applications and it's been perfect every time. The shop doesn't look like much but they get the job done, quickly and efficiently. Plus, there's a human involved who tells you how to sit, so the US Department of State website always accepts their photos - no need to return multiple times because you were accidentally smiling or your head was tilted. Needed a high quality digital passport photo, and the other 523 places I called only would only give me the print copies, not the digital copies, and one other place I tried took the photos in really terrible lighting. Foto Shop really saved the day - professional pictures, with an actual lighting setup with diffusers, the works, nice high res picture. As a bonus, they have a notary public in-house as well. However, after the great quality of service I received, the least I could do was share my positive experience as a Foto Shop customer. I came here because I needed a couple of passport photos for some of my secondary medical school applications. From the moment I set foot in the establishment, I felt welcome. After Andrew took a picture of me, he showed it to me and asked me if I was satisfied (they did not do that when I went to a local Walgreens to have a previous passport photo taken). The photo looked so professional that there was no need to take a second shot. While he was getting my photos ready, we had a good conversation about medical school programs. Turns out he is very knowledgable about the subject. One of the medical schools I applied to was requiring me to send an electronic passport photo. When I had previously asked for a digital copy at Walgreens and CVS, I was rudely told they did not provide that service. I was so surprised when Andrew agreed to sell me a digital copy for an additional $10. Since I did not have a USB flash drive, he offered to email it to me (that's how I know his name).
