Love their sushi, my favorite rolls are the Panic and Diablo rolls. Spicy edamame is delicious too!

First, let me just say: the food was great. Me and my three friends really enjoyed the food and the service was good. When it came time to pay, from what I know, 2/4 of us tipped around 20% and one of us tipped slightly more. One of my friends was waiting on a bank transfer and was not able to tip enough. By the time their money had come through, the waiter had took the checks and we were in a rush to leave because it seemed the restaurant was closing. We sat outside on a table on the sidewalk directly across the restaurant for some time. At one point me and another friend needed to use the restroom and our waiter let us back in to use it. We came back outside and sat for a little longer...until the waiter approached us and said something along the lines of "thank y'all for tipping, except the person who tipped 5%". The majority of us were dumbfounded and didn't know what to do, but my friend who wasn't able to tip knew exactly who the waiter was talking about. My friend apologized and explained the situation they were in. The waiter then went on to use foul language (f**k) to my friend. My friend, despite this, asked for the waiters venmo and cashapp. I think this took the waiter by surprise because he hesitated before saying no and then walking away very fast. The waiter had mentioned that they "work very hard" and that "people do this all the time" and I'm sure it's true. But I really don't think they should have spoken to us this way. Two of the people in our party see this as a favorite spot of theirs and now feel uncomfortable even thinking about going back. It's unfortunate that the waiter felt under appreciated, but if he had genuinely asked why he was undertipped by one of us despite his service, my friend would have gladly tipped him then. read more

My husband and I have been to Foster's twice for lunch; the first time, the service and food was fantastic (which is why they are getting two stars, not one)! Our waitress was pleasant, courteous, knew the menu and asked the right probing questions (i.e. white or fried rice with the bento box?). Our second visit was terrible! I ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box, to which I received, boiled chicken over a plate of vegetables....that's it. Oh wait, no, I also got a visit from the owner, to my table. She told me the waitress, who spoke and understood very limited English, never gave me the lunch menu, therefore, she ordered the dinner chicken teriyaki for me. HUH? (I had let her know I had grabbed the lunch menu on my way in, and was holding it when I had placed my order). Her response was that I was getting a lot more chicken with what she gave me, so I should be happy. Again, HUH? I left the restaurant, still hungry (I don't know how old that boiled chicken was, and could only choke down one piece), and with $41 less in my pocket. read more

Do not go here!!! They don't know the definition of service. The restaurant was half empty. We easily got a table. We were seated for 20 minutes. Not one server came to our table. There were at least 5 servers in the restaurant and some standing around chatting. Another party came in and sat at the table behind us. The server promptly came over to take their drink order. I must admit.... a sushi spot named "Fosters" is a bit scary.. grew up going to "Foster Freeze." Any how, I rolled in at 11:30 and it was a ghost town. I met a girlfriend there for lunch who had been once and claimed it to be great. I ordered the bento box ( teriyaki salmon) it was really good! Started w miso soup. I could not finish my plate it was huge! My gf ordered the tuna tower? It was delish! I can't vouch for the sushi but I'll leave another review on that next time I go. I will be back! So excited to finally have an excellent seafood/sushi place in Roanoke. After moving from Fort Worth, we haven't found a place we like, until now. The food is amazing. I got to rolls and my husband got the ramen noodles. ALL of the food was fresh and perfectly spiced. The sushi chef, Sean, did an incredible job and gave a special chef sample of fried red snapper. SO DELICIOUS!!!! The edamame was perfectly steamed and seasoned and the miso soup was the perfect starter. We are totally excited to finally have amazing food so close to us! We will definitely be back and I recommend to anyone who wants fresh delicious fish!!l read more

There are so many dining choices in the area, we had not tried Foster's until last Saturday for lunch. Roanoke is known for the variety of restaurants in its small area. Foster's seems to take this concept internally because it is a combination sushi restaurant, hamburger joint and high-end sports bar. Unfortunately, in our one experience, they do none of these things well. The sushi was, as Yelp puts it, "meh, I've experience better." The tuna was flavorless and tough. The eel was cold. For my daughter, Fosters offered a California roll, but they served it with french fries? How about fruit? Edamame? Something healthy. Nope fries were her only choice. BTW, they were cold as well. Maybe it was the holiday weekend, but Mike our server was pretty non-existent - the restaurant wasn't even busy. We went empty on teas and waters twice - we didn't even bother to ask Mike for a refill the 2nd time. He was too busy playing with his phone over by the register. read more

Very interesting venue. Fosters is following the latest styles for "sushi and hibachi" joints for trying to be a poppy trendy sushi place with mood lighting "base-y" driving ambiance music and bars decorated with higher end spirits. I was initially concerned that this was going to try to be an "everything to everyone" location as most places that end their restaurant name with "bar and grill" seem to fall flat somewhere. We had a very pleasant experience. The wait staff were appropriately attentive and the food was good. A little pricey, but it was good quality and you could really see attention to detail in the presentation of everything from their appetizers, and sushi to their main dishes. I enjoyed the Bulgogi dish after having a rainbow roll for an appetizer. Both were fresh and flavorful with the Bulgogi being properly cooked and deliciously seasoned. I think that the only thing that keeps me from giving a blow out review was the perceived value. It did seem a little expensive for the over all experience, but I must keep in mind that the location in Roanoke is a part of the allure. I do highly recommend Foster's for a fun inviting environment and think it would be a great date night location. read more

Setting: It was fairly basic, there wasn't anything that stood out so overall, the setting was fine. Service: Our server really didn't advise us that much, I had looked at the lunch special as and opted for the sushi bento, she only told me how much food was in it versus the kalbi bento. But overall, good service, she was friendly. The only odd thing was the manager(?) came up beside me on my other side and was telling me about the menu while our server was on the right side. It was a strange experience and I'm not sure as to why she walked up and started explaining to me the menu which is what the server's job is to do. Food Quality: meh...the fish is fresh I'm​ not going to gripe​ about that but it was such low-quality​ fish. My bento had come with miso soup, a salad (which I had sent back since I didn't like the dressing that was on top of a bed of iceberg lettuce), 2 pieces of fried dumplings​, 4 pieces of odd California​ roll, 2 pieces each of salmon and tuna sashimi, 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, and shrimp sushi; which yeah is a lot of food but you would have thought the person putting it together would have said "hey, that's a lot of salmon and sushi, maybe we should mix up the sashimi pieces" but that wasn't the case. We went there the opening weekend and the food was good but the attention was fantastic. The owners give us a complementary dessert (delicious btw) and tells us a bit of her history and how hard she works to get everything ready to the opening. It is a good place to go, relax and enjoy the food. We have to try again a sit in the sushi bar to check all the cool thing that the master chef made and also check the patio. My spouse and I came here for lunch. The place was spacious inside with tables and booths, along with a drink bar and sushi/sashimi bar. We ordered some bottled beers, then to eat my spouse ordered the chirashi bowl and I ordered the ahi tuna bowl. Granted, the server didn't know what came with the ahi tuna bowl, but no problem. When she spoke with the chef, I essentially special ordered my meal, and he included chopped veggies on rice. They provided complementary miso soup. When the food arrived, it was laid out beautifully and the fresh fish was cut clean and neat. It was really good, and we ate everything. We'll definitely come back for lunch again. read more

Owner Kimberly, really cares and wants to make sure her customers feel special...my nephew calls her his Korean mom I am looking forward to coming back for dinner with my wife. So far i have tested the bar, the sushi and several appetizers. Beer was cold, sushi was excellent with enough choices for those that may not be into sushi too. Eventhough the 2 visits were only business drinks and appetizers it was so enjoyable, i will be back. For a new sushi bar that was short staffed, the food was Excellent! We always enjoy sitting at the sushi bar, Shawn and Tracie both skilled and very knowledgeable about their fish! First of all, we were there for almost 15 minutes before the server was told we were her table. When we ordered drinks I received mine (which was not good) and my husband never got his Diet Coke. We were seated close enough to the kitchen that you could hear the servers blatantly stating they didn't know what table was what or where half the food was. Saw a lot of tables sending their food back. Food was ok, but extremely over priced. I get this is the first week, but train your employees better. It's ridiculous that I could hear the servers and owner bickering. Probably won't be back. read more

I've never seen so many employees pissed of at the World. If you are going in to a restaurant to drop $100, you should at least made to feel welcome. The bartender actually got ticked that we sat at the bar before she cleaned it. Every employee was mad...and they made it known it was all the customers fault for ordering too much food and ordering too difficult mixed drinks. Second and last trip here. I've been going to fosters for about a year now and have always enjoyed their fried sushi rolls and spicy ramen. We went recently and the friend sushi was undercooked, almost raw and the spicy noodles had absolutely no flavor. Don't know if they hired new cooks or if it was just a bad batch but it was extremely disappointing. read more

One star is generous..& that's solely for the owner alone. We went out on a Tuesday night to celebrate my sister's birthday (who was visiting from out of town). The waitress was very kind and quick but it slowly went downhill. Drinks took forever to be served. We ordered a roll, which turned out to be the wrong one and nothing was offered to replace it. & mind you, we all were finished with our dinners by the time the birthday girls dinner arrived. Which they explained was delayed because they messed up a to go order. (Don't know how this was our problem ) when our waitress tried to explain the situation to the owner ( wrong food item, dinner arriving 15 minutes later than the rest of the party) the owner proceeded to yell at the waitress. When my husband went to speak to the owner and explain the waitress did nothing wrong, the owner then proceeded to raise her voice at my husband. Not once did a manager come apologize for the numerous mistakes or try to remedy any error. Also when we mentioned we had a birthday- they brought out a desert with a candle & then charged us for that ! The owner is solely for making a profit. Treating her patrons and her staff like garbage. & the food was just totally average. Went in on a slow Tuesday night and ended up spending an arm and a leg to be treated like an inconvenience and eat our meals at separate times. Absolute BS if you ask me. No training for 1st day employees is costing my family entirely too much time! It took 45 minutes to place dinner order. We had to inform the waiter of what should be included with our food. Save your time and money. Horrible. We ordered an ahi tower that they brought to us. Then owner asked why we ate it was another tables! Not something you tell a customer. Had to wait around 15 mins for bar drinks. Calamari was over salted. We wait half an hour for our rolls we ordered then the waitress gave us our ticket and asked if we wanted dessert at the same time. Problem was....we NEVER got our dinner!!! No rolls. My husband looked at their waitress and said "i am guessing your just completely forgot about our dinner? ". The waitress said "oh. Sorry". Thats it! Zero attempt to fix things. As we walked out two men were outside and heard us talking about never returning. They said "bad for y'all too? Our wives are inside eating their dinner but we never got ours as they completely forgot it" The wait staff is absolutely clueless. Owner is rude and everything was slow and incorrect. I really want to like this place and w might give them another shot one day, but I don't see them lasting, unfortunately. Pros: - Food: The sushi was pretty good, but on par with other places prices. Lowering the price may drive more traffic. - Service: Our waitress did a good job of some things like catering to the kids and actually getting our complicated split checks correct. - Atmosphere: We sat on the patio, which was nice and not crowded for a Friday night. Inside looked cool too. Cons: - Price: Not that the food was bad, but just. OT worth what we got. - Food: The fried rice and calamari with both sub par. - Service: There may have been only one waitress for the whole place, which wasn't crowded for a Friday night.
