Foster's Sushi used to be our go-to sushi spot for years. My husband and I were always there on New Year's Eve--it was one of those traditions, and it was a place we truly loved. So this review honestly makes me a little sad to write. We went recently, and I've since been told they may be under new management. I'm not sure exactly what's changed, but unfortunately, the food just wasn't the same. The sushi didn't hit like it used to at all. The flavors, quality, and overall experience felt very different from what we remembered. My son ordered the chicken teriyaki and said it was good, but even he noticed that it tasted different than before. Whether it's a menu change, ingredient sourcing, or something else, I'm not sure--but the consistency we loved just wasn't there. This place was genuinely a favorite of ours, which makes this disappointing. Sadly, based on our most recent visit, it's probably not somewhere we'll return to. read more

I know they're under new management... I came because I do want to support local and I've enjoyed Foster's in the past. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Tower, Spider Roll .. and the Chicken Karakke kids meal. The food was not as good as it was in the past and left me dissatisfied. But what is really weighing the rating down is that I walked into the shop and for 5-8 mins, with only 2 tables and a couple at the bar, 3 workers, 2 chefs, 1 bartender.. not a single person acknowledged me. No one said hi, no one said they would be with me in a minute.. all 3 of the workers looked my way but no one greeted me at all. When my husband and kids walked in they got greeted. How rude. Like how do you let someone stand at your hostess stand for 8 minutes and not acknowledge them at all?!?! They were not remotely busy.. there were extra people acting like they were working but I am a customer standing waiting for service. Needless to say, we gave you a try Foster's and you stunk in it. We were frequenters of Fosters under previous management but we will not visit again. read more

The food was amazing, and the service was great. Our food was plated in a very cute manner. Our spicy California roll had a swan made of cucumber and oranges, and after eating our dragon fly roll we saw that the cucumbers formed hearts with a carrot butterfly resting on an orange flower. Adorable! Appearance aside, the food tasted great and came out quickly. Our server was super attentive and very kind. I eat a lot of sushi. We thought we would try fosters. Walked in and greeted friendly. Staff were awesome from start to finish. The decor was nice and the restaurant appeared clean. We ordered apps, chefs choice of sushi and sashimi. Also ordered hibachi with fried rice. Food began to arrive quickly. The monkey Brain app was lack luster at best. The sushi was just above Costco grade maybe. The hibachi was bland, the steak we got was not fillet as we ordered and over cooked. This place continue to be fantastic, a great sushi happy hour choice. I wish there were more alcoholic offerings for HH, as I'm not big on martinis, but still the food variety is great. This time we started off as usual with an avocado bomb and heart attack - these are must order items!! Then we tried 2 new things - the spicy pork bulgogi lettuce wrap, which were very great and a nice way to vary up what we ordered, and for sushi we decide to try the Oakley Dokey. This roll was good but I think I still prefer the Firecracker off the HH menu - although there are a few more I want to try that I haven't yet that could change that. Service during happy hour has always been good and quick to get food out. Definitely the most affordable and delicious sushi option that I know of in the area! read more

Foster's is usually a great experience for us. They have good sushi and usually pretty quick service. However, today we ordered food for delivery and after waiting for over an hour we were told that the restaurant cancelled our order due to an issue. We called to see what the issue was and the response was "We're just really busy right now". I've never heard of that as an excuse to not serve a customer but okay. We were then told that we would have to come in to the restaurant and re-order if we still wanted the food. So, we ended up driving all the way to order and guess what, they weren't busy. Fosters is a hidden gem amongst downtown Roanoke. They have great selection of rolls and appetizers. The servers are very helpful and the Sushi chefs are absolutely dialed in. The panfried dumplings are some of the best i've ever had. They also have hibachi on the menu as well, which is very nicely priced. If you're ever in Keller this place is a must-try. The food is delicious and reasonably priced and the service is incredible. I ordered the Propose roll (spicy tuna and jalapeño inside, yellowtail, thinly sliced lemon, and mustard outside), a spicy salmon roll and the yellowtail belly and salmon sushi. Everything was fresh and had great flavor! Their drink selection is also top notch, including the beer and sake list! The premium/flavored sakes are worth the extra penny for sure. Fiona was my server and was just so lovely. She showed me all her favorites on the menu (salmon was her recommendation) and really made it feel like she was having me over for dinner in her home! I'll definitely be back to try everything on their massive menu. It's clean and upscale enough for a nice date or work lunch/dinner, but casual enough for a weeknight bite. I talked my family into going here for Dinner after checking out their menu on line and finding it was broader than a typical sushi house. My wife doesn't like seafood and our 20 yr old son is now open to trying seafood. My wife had a pomegranate martini and I had a draft Sapporo. We started with Temptation Roll, Crab Rangoon and steamed pork dumplings. All great. My son had beef tadaki, I had tonkatsu, my wife had hibachi filet. We intended on bringing our puppy and sitting on the dog friendly patio but since it was so hot, we opted to leave the pup at home. I could not believe this place was here 3 years and I never went in to try it. So glad I did. Was craving sashimi and thank goodness I was in the area. Decided to celebrate dropping 35lbs with a cheat meal & try this restaurant. First the positives, the Miso Soup was perfect. The Shrimp Fried rice was drenched in butter yet bland. The main issue was they used the salad shrimps but charged a premium price of $16 & the poop vein was still in the shrimps. I ended up throwing this away. Next up was the Hibachi Shrimp, the shrimps were the size I expect not the super large but the regular size. The sauce tasted like the stock sams club hoisin sauce & it was $26, again very disappointed. If it was at least tasty I'd be fine but to be so basic I am very disappointed, this also got tossed out. $70 order pretty much wasted, I should have just went & bought 1.5lbs of King Crab from Central Market, this was totally totally not worth it & I hope anyone thinking of ordering from Uber Eats heeds this warning & look somewhere else. read more

We had seen this place many times while driving through and since the wharf was out of business we walked across to give it a try. We asked to be seated on the patio where 4 other tables were already sat. We were greeted quickly by a server who was friendly and helpful. We ordered iced tea which was brought promptly but we had to ask for sugar substitute. We ordered a heart attack as an appetizer. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and my husband ordered a roll with cooked shrimp. We were brought fried strings and cucumbers before our heart attack and we had to ask for silverware. The strings had a sauce and husband liked them even though he said they were hard to eat. I thought they tasted burnt. The cucumbers salad was good. The heart attack came out and I guess it might have sat after being cooked before being brought out as it was cold. When my spicy tuna roll came out it smelled extremely fishy and had a very squishy texture that alarmed me. My husband asked me to try his because it smelled funny and the texture was slimy. I believe it was not cooked all the way. I told the waitress we didnt want it it but would happy to pay for it. So the manager comes out and tells us that we are used to eating subpar tuna and this Tina tastes different because it is fresh and they just got it today and cleaned it with chlorine and you'll have to forgive me but I cant remember the other thing because I was so taken aback by what she was saying. She did not address my husbands undercooked shrimp. She did take the entrees off and we left but we won't be returning. Please see pics I posted. read more

This was my second time going here and absolutely my last. Waitress took about 10-15 mins to take my order. Then once I received my food, I noticed one of my rolls tasted a bit spoiled. I wasn't too sure so I ate another and decided to smell the roll and noticed the spicy tuna on top smelled like it went bad. The server then asks if I want them to remake it but surely I had lost my appetite. I informed her that I didn't want them to serve that spicy tuna and get others sick. I waited a long period to flag my server down just to get napkins. I would highly recommend to think twice prior to eating here or smell your food prior to ingesting since food poisoning can be very serious especially when ingesting raw seafood. read more

FIRST AND LAST. I was really outraged at how this restaurant wasn't promoting social distancing and wearing mask at all. NOT ONE staff member did I see wearing one and they let customer sit beside each other at each isle. The service was slow. They only have 1 server and the manager helps her keep up with the orders but it's not helping that much with customers pouring in lunchtime. Waiting for the food took around 30-40 mins and checking out took us 10 mins wait before we can get the billing and to-go box. I know the server tried her best but she's in there serving and taking orders like Diner Dash Flo. The food isn't great, most of I've tasted was bland, uninteresting and overpriced food. I think Korean cuisines is not the best order here considering it's a Japanese restaurant, they server better Japanese food. For starters, Fried Calamari was the first choice, it was crunchy, breading was right but again, the taste is just bland. Miso Soup was okay, it wasn't really bad but I couldn't explain if they put tofu in there. I heard Bulgogi Bento is the best, but the ribeye wasn't done right. I couldn't taste nothing with the meat but the oil coating the meat. It's not what a real authentic Korean food would taste like. The California Rolls that came with it wasn't bad but it doesn't taste fresh either. The Fried Deep Dumpling wasn't bad, it was actually the first one I ate in the bento box. The Salad with ginger dressing is bad, the lettuce wasn't fresh, the cherry tomatoes was overripe, and dressing tasted bad, it tasted like it was sitting in the fridge over a week now. The Tonkatsu was fried nicely but it's the seasoning they use in the breading isn't just kicking in. The Tonkatsu sauce isn't bad either. The Yaki Udon noodles was great but the yakisoba sauce was bland. The vegetables was comfortable to eat. Overall, not so bad experience. This restaurant has a great location, nice furnishings and great amenities. I think the food needs more seasoning to it and considering it's overpriced. Fort Worth has better Japanese restaurants that can offer at a lower price and good meal. They also need to upgrade the chefs and recruit more servers. read more

Stopped in Roanoke as we were traveling through and discovered this gem. The exterior and interior were clean and well presented and included a bar. The food was excellent. I had the nacho roll and my wife had the king salmon roll. The waitress was Fiona and she was amazing! We'll be back... hopefully soon. read more

I had shrimp with noodles and the shrimp were the tiny salad type shrimp and this was at the suggestion of the waitress. I had asked if I could add. My sentiment seems to be in line with the reviews for the past few months- great food, awful service. The food, while pricey, is very good. I've had two visits now and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food tastes. I imagine the prices reflect a high food cost to acquire quality fish for the great sushi. The service, both visits, was terrible- from the host to the wait staff. This recent visit, we waited at our table, with the menus, for 20 minutes before having to ask the busser if we had a server. A couple minutes later, she arrived and we ordered food and drinks. Drinks arrived 10 minutes later and food about 30 minutes after that. Soup, salad, and sushi all arrived at the same time. We weren't rude and didn't voice our frustration about having to refill our waters and beer, just politely asked for another. When she dropped off the refills, we never saw the server again. After eating and waiting for awhile, we again had to ask the busser for our check and a to-go box. I would certainly recommend the food, and advise anyone to get the food for take-out only. read more
