Original, streamline art deco Foster's Freeze building from the late 1940's in Old Town Brawley is very close to the Bandstand Gazebo in the middle of a green lawn. So very Middle Western!!! The only other old school Foster's that I know of is in Old Town Torrance, California, and it's in worse shape. Too tempting to pass up even at 10:30am. I went up to the window manned by a friendly, informative, young man who said he lived in Westmorland and never tasted a date shake although he pointed out that Foster's did have date shakes a long time ago.  We got Into a conversation when I mentioned to him that this was an original Foster's Freeze. "Yeah, they celebrated its 70th anniversary a few years ago."    I got a chocolate soft serve ice cream cone which was as good as it was 60 years ago in homage to this iconic structure. Took photos and left.   City of Brawley, please give this Foster's Freeze historical status to encourage preservation as you are for the Brawley Theatre nearby. Once destroyed, all these tIme honored buildIngs can never be rebuilt.  4 stars for beIng one of the last original Foster's Freeze still standing. read more

Visited 1/9/2022 Wow wish I could give this place a better rating but I wasn't very impressed. Came by for some Chile Cheese Dogs as something to take back to the motel. Ordered 2 dogs, a fish sandwich, and a Double cheeseburger. The Chile Dogs were ok but no hotdog packaging just stuck them in a paper bag with no wrapping or tinfoil or boxes. Pretty messy by the time they got back to the room. The fish sandwich looks like somebody drove over it with a car. The fish wasn't bad but the Bun was smashed, messed up and hard and the lettuce was quite wilted out and brown. 1Stars The double cheeseburger was not bad and at least 2 1/2 stars. I also had a medium pineapple milkshake. I give it 3 stars. So overall I give this place between 2 and 3 Stars. read more

This place sucks, had my car towed because we went across the street to use the restroom at donut avenue because they don't have restrooms. It takes us an hour to get to town, so what was supposed to be a fun ice cream trip for my kids turned into a $500 impound nightmare. read more

So, the nostalgia of Fosters Freeze is embedded in my heart- BUT this Fosters Freeze- oh my. Their website says close at 8 pm drive there it's 7:25a they put up the closed sign and say they close at 7:30‍. Other times- only sell ice cream 1/2 hour before closing. They used to close at 9pm. I used to enjoy coming to Fosters every once in a while, it's usually good food. But they lost me as a customer. The lady took my order completely wrong and charged me more for it. When I tried to solve the situation, instead of just saying she misunderstood me, she started arguing with me about why I was wrong and she was right. It left me off in a very bad mood and I didn't even want to eat my food I just bought. I've being going to Foster's for as long as I can remember! When we were little, I remember our dad bringing us on a hot day for sundaes or icees. In high school this was a go to spot and wasn't as crazy trying to get food as Johnny's always was. They serve up the local favorites like taquitos and fries with cheese, along with good burgers and of course, the main reason to come - the only place in town to get a pineapple shake. We stopped by for lunch last Sunday and while the outside is a little rough for the wear, the food was still good and the shakes hit the spot on a 115 degree day. I went with the standard: taquitos and fries with cheese. The taquitos come smothered in jack cheese and avocado sauce and served up like I've only ever seen in Brawley: with a popsicle stick to eat them without getting sauce all over your fingers. I really liked the fries with cheese, I usually prefer the straight cut fries here to the crinkle cut fries served down the street. There is very limited seating on concrete table/benches outside, so this is pretty much a take it to go kind of place, and heads up, there is no drive through. It's hard for nostalgia to not play a role in this review, but the food was great, the service was quick, and we will be back again the next time we're in town! read more

I loved coming here when I went to BUHS, it was my number one lunch stop. My favorite things to eat here were the onion rings plus a hand full of Jack cheese, with the onion rings coming out of the deep fryer melting the cheese onto the rings and put in a baggie. I know the lady's working at the counter won't remember it, but I remember 2 guys serving it on a daily basis over 20 years ago. I asked them for the same thing and the women seemed clueless, but ok. I also liked the dipped ice creams and shakes. They have limited seating outside in the shade, but for eating lunch out of BUHS it is beneficial and not overcrowded like Johnny's was and fit my little group perfect. Plan to return! read more

I've always loved Fosters Freeze. Best shakes, old fashion ice cream, recipes that never change. A truly proven product perfect for hot summer days. However, one big component is missing from this location. Hygiene!!!! Two women working at this location (Brawley) are handling the equipment, the money, adjusting their hair and wiping their hands on their pants. No gloves, no hand washing, nothing. They were reaching into the toppings with dirty hands grabbing oreos, gummy worms and more with their bare, dirty hands. If you have gotten ill after eating here now you know why. These women are disgusting and too lazy to take the most basic precautions. I have been coming here for over 20 years, but never again. read more
