Just came back from getting a haircut by Phil. I've had Phil and Bob both cut my hair, and they both do a spectacular job. They are very friendly, and honestly genuine people. I've been to places like Great Clips and Supercuts, and every barber I've had there isn't really a barber... They are someone there doing a job. Phil and Bob are both there as barbers - to them it's a career. They take pride in their work instead of trying to fit in as many customers as they can, and it shows in the type of cuts they give. Compared to Bob, Phil takes a little longer, but I think it's because he takes a few seconds breaks to talk to the customer. Phil is an amazing barber and I would definitely go again. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. I think if the shop was open just 3 - 9 every day, they'd steal all the business in the area. read more

I went into Foster for my first time. I was so disappointed by the haircut. The barber that I had cared more about the news channel than my haircut, and keep swearing at the TV. He was really inexperience, and seemed nervous cutting my hair. I asked him to take a little off my hair, and then take more off if needed as most barber do when cutting your hair. The barber stepped back and literally said "I'd rather not do that" implying for me to give him one fucking length to cut my hair and be done with it. Apparently, I was an inconvenience for him. I think he spent less than 12 minutes doing my hair while most barbers will spend at least 20 mins doing a quality job. I am going to another barber this week to fix the awful job this place did. The other reviews on this place have to be fake, there is no way this place has that many stars. read more

Just moved to the area and had to find a local barber shop so I don't have to drive 40 mins back to my old one. After extensive research ( who doesn't find it nerve-wrecking to find a good barber shop??), I ended up giving Foster's a shot. The fact that Phil used to cut Asian hair was a big plus and the result was great. He listened to what I want and took his time to cut my hair. We've finally found our barber for my son! We tried many barber shops in the area since we moved here a year ago and they were always disappointing. I think because he is a toddler, they would rush through the cut, even though he loves getting haircuts (for the lollipops at the end) and sits still. They never paid attention to quality. I have to admit, Foster's was also one of the barber shops we tried and we were also disappointed in that the haircut lacked precision and grew out horribly. I forget who cut his hair but he is no longer there. I had to wait for my son's hair to grow out for months so that it was long enough for another stylist to do a complete rehaul. Recently, my son's hair was getting long and unruly...neglected because we just had our second child. We were in desperate need so I asked my husband to just take him to Foster's because it was walkable, they're fast, and the price is right. This time, Azzddin cut his hair and when my boys got home, I was so impressed by the cut! My son looks great and the cut was perfect. Every day I've been admiring his hair and best of all, hubby said Azzddin was super fast and that it only took 5 minutes! Our search for a good haircut for our son is over. Don't trust their hours. I talked to one of the barbers the day before asking if I could come in the next day at their advertised opening time, but then I showed up and stood outside for 20 minutes waiting for someone to show up, after when they were supposed to be open. Then someone came by and mentioned that the same thing had happened to them another morning and also a previous evening when they were closed during times they advertise being open. Finally someone showed up and said they couldn't open on time but would be opening in another 30 minutes. so about an hour after they were supposed to open and when they'd told me they would be open when I talked to them the night before. Huge waste of time. Can't comment on the quality of their haircuts, and thats why I gave 2 stars and not 1, but frankly they don't seem to be organized enough to plan into your day. read more

I should've waited an extra day to get a haircut at a better place. All I asked for was a skin fade and cut about half of my hair off the top. To start, I don't know if the guy had a really bad day but he kept giving me attitude, every five seconds telling me to "just try to keep your head still." Sorry my head moves ever so slightly when you smash your clippers against my scalp. After he rushed to finish what shouldn't be considered a haircut, more like a brutal massacre of hair follicles, I noticed he made my sides lopsided. I politely asked him to please fix it. I don't know if I triggered him but he told me it would cost "an extra five dollars" to "line me up," even though umm hello you didn't finish cutting my hair. Not only that, he was like, "well there's other costumers waiting I can't spend all day doing your hair," acting as if my ass hadn't been waiting 45 minutes for him to get to me beforehand. All in all he made the right side normal and the left side of my head looking like a right triangle, and cut nearly all of my hair off the top. I didn't even notice the top until i got home because I was so pissed off at his attitude and his transformation of my hair into a geometry lesson. Terrible cut and terrible service. Worst waste of money I've ever had, and I once bought tickets to see the Migos. read more

An old school and very versatile Barber Shop right off the T in Davis Square. Bobby, the owner, is an absolute pro and has been my go-to barber for over five years since I moved to the area. The price for a haircut is also exceptionally reasonable and everyone there is capable and friendly. There is a big window in the front facing a College Ave and a TV toward the back so if there is a wait, time passes quickly, but you can call ahead to see how busy they are. Enjoy! read more

The barber was nice but doesn't know how to listen to customers or their requests. I told him long on top, buzzed on the sides so that I can pull it up. He cut one side way farther up than the other, completely ruining the option to pull it up into a bun. Now it is asymmetrical and probably won't grow properly. After asking him several times to adjust the other side so it would be symmetrical, he refused, "it's a different style cut." I didn't ask for a different style haircut, I asked for the cut that I asked for!! What a complete waste of time and money, I have to cut my hair again now because it looks so bad. read more

I walked in earlier today and both of the barbers immediately greeted me, which may not be a big deal to most, but coming from a hospitality background, that is so crucial to the experience. It's been a while since I've gotten a haircut at a proper barbershop, so I was imagining it was going to be a brief affair. Much to my delight, the dude who took care of me--regrettably, I never caught his name, even though we struck up an enjoyable conversation--was so meticulous and detail-oriented, I wondered why I was so hesitant to go the barbershop route for so long. very happy with my haircut but not with the pricing. 15 mins before I showed up I called and asked the price... $19 for a mens haircut. After the haircut was done I was charged $25 because I had "long hair" and apparently there's an extra charge for that. 1) The haircut was a very standard affair and took all of 15 mins 2) My hair was not very long... I've had it cut from this length many times and no one has ever charged me more than a standard men's haircut look out for the upcharges here. read more

Finally mustered up the courage to give a local barbershop a chance. I always drive to Allston for my haircut since that's where my previous barber is, but it's trek to go there just for a haircut compared to walking a few blocks away to Foster's. I showed up less than 30 min before they close with 3 other customers already sitting there in line - these guys took me in even though they'd be cutting my hair past closing. That alone was a plus in my book. Phil did an awesome job cutting my hair. Like most people, I'm very particular with my haircuts, and the scariest part of going to a new place is that they don't know your style. After telling Phil what I want, he took my words into consideration and even threw out his own suggestions, which is what a true, experienced barber does. After going to the same place over and over again for years, you fall out of the new trends, so when Phil finished the back of my head with a taper, I was definitely happy to have left my bubble to try these guys out. He also told me he previously worked in Lowell and was used to cutting a lot of Asian hair, so that actually was reassuring. I've gone to other chain barbershops (no names), and have had the worst haircuts of my life because they didn't really consider the hair style vs the hair type and face contour, but Phil knew what he was doing. I'm glad that I found Foster's and don't have to travel 25 min+ just for a damn haircut. Absolutely give these guys shot. read more

Went here for a very simple, short haircut and unfortunately came away disappointed. I gave the barber instructions on the length I wanted, but he consistently left the top too long even after I asked him twice to take it shorter. Eventually he stopped asking and just styled the top of my hair (which I did not ask for!). He also never showed me the back or asked at the end if I was ok with it -- literally took the apron off and walked over to the cash register. At the time I thought it was good enough and the haircut had already taken long enough. However once I got home and washed the product out of my hair, I was able to see how badly the length was messed up. Not only that, but I noticed several stray longer hairs on the top of my head that he missed! I'm pretty let down by the poor attention to detail and inability to listen to a basic haircut request. I will likely need to go elsewhere to have this fixed. read more

I promised I'd change my 4-star review to 5 when Bob brought on some help to handle the volume of business, and sure enough, he has hired an assistant now. Phil hasn't done my hair yet, but I see the other reviewers here speak highly of him as well. My only complaint before had been the wait when it was just Bob's one-man show, but now he can handle twice the customers at a time. And it's nice to see that he's doing well enough that he can afford to bring in the additional help. Great place! read more

There are two incredible barbers at Foster's. Both Bob and Phil are increasingly talented and really awesome people. Every time I go for my fairly priced (17$ + 3$ tip) haircut, I not only get an amazing haircut, I have an incredible conversation. These guys treat your hair like an art piece. However you want your hair cut, they will do it and take their time with it. I've had hour long haircuts before. Great place! Highly recommended. Would give more than 5 stars if I could! read more

Been there twice, and both times asked for something straightforward (number 2 on the sides, scissors on top). First time, it went fine. The second time, not so much. The sides were ok, but when it came time to finish up the top with scissors, he used one hand to haphazardly cut whatever came within the scissors reach from the top and the front. It didn't look great, and when I asked him to take off a bit more from the front hoping to even things out, he instead started buzzing the back of my head. Needless to say, something was lost in translation. He didn't even offer to show me the back, and I'm not sure any request would've been understood. I definitely won't return. read more

Phil is an absolute sweetheart--he made me feel totally at ease (I say this as a woman who has never set foot in a barber shop before today) and did an excellent job.
