I'm a 54-year old woman who wears a very short afro. I was visiting my son who goes to school here, and after staying longer than I planned, I needed to get my hair cut. I went online, saw a few places, but was impressed that Sly's Barber Shop had photos of women whose hair they had cut. Since the photos looked fine, and they were only one stop away from me on the Red Line, I went hoping they would at least be "okay." I was very pleasantly surprised! First of all, the shop was just a 5 minute walk from the train and in a nice area. Sly happened to be outside as I was approaching the shop and he greeted me with a smile, not knowing I was future customer. The shop was very clean and clearly well-maintained. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was positive. I didn't wait long and the price was great! Sly arched my eyebrows too! If I lived here, this absolutely would be my barbershop. Since it's not, I will settle for looking real cute when I go home! read more

Very fast, affordable and give haircuts of quality. I'm from Kenya and ever since I got to the US, I've had a tough time finding a good place to have my hair cut. I've had really short natural hair for 2 years now and of all the places I've gone to before, this is by far the best place I've had my hair cut in terms of a good environment, service and price. I swear I'm not exaggerating at all...everyone was really welcoming and the people were so great. The atmosphere was joyous and the barbers were so funny and full of energy. I walked into the place unsure of what I wanted but what I got was so freaking good I'm even scared to touch it incase I ruin the beauty of it. I will definitely come back to Sly's the next time I'm in Cambridge... It's a given. I gave it 5 stars coz I couldn't give more. I highly recommend read more

Man's tried to charge me three dollars after charging me $30 for a chop cut pushing my hairline back all the way to my brain I had to go home and modify my haircut putting heavy alcohol to beat their head bumps I just should have took myself on a train ride to the Latinos .... nice try Diddy, he doesn't like walk-ins and doesn't cater to his own community very much because he have a specific style of cutting, leaving the top alone and blowing out the sides are his most satisfied customers. I am very picky when it comes to who cuts my hair. I don't trust many people with the task. I moved here almost year ago and decided I needed to find a local place instead of relying on my barber (when I'd go home for family visits) 1000 miles away. This place is definitely top-notch. Low prices and a very friendly atmosphere -- I felt welcomed the minute I walked in. Sly did an amazing job. I waited about fifteen minutes, if that. I will definitely be back and I will recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a solid cut. If you need any sort of hair cut, shave, eye brow job, etc, this is your place. read more

Great haircut for my first time here. Sly spent the majority of his time (which wasn't a lot of time) working on my sideburns, around the ears, and the back -- and those parts look great -- but even the top, which he trimmed in just a few quick snips looks as sharp as can be. Not a fancy shop, but I can't imagine anything nicer. Good conversation too. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in town. read more
