The barbers at Sly's barbershop were very friendly and experienced. I went in without knowing exactly what I wanted but was able to provide a photo from an older haircut as a reference. Sly used my reference photo and gave me a cut that fully exceeded my expectations for a first time visit. I was excited to come to Sly's. It had great reviews online, the pricing was great, and it is close to where I work. An unwritten rule is that the first chair in any barbershop is not good. I like to give those guys a chance to prove that unwritten rule wrong. Sadly, in this case, it was true. My experience in Sly was not good. The barber was too rough and hurt me with the blades; he did not do an excellent job on the hair and beard, he missed half of my neck shave, and he looked like he didn't even sanitize the blades. Staying at a nearby hotel to attend my daughter's volleyball tournament and wanted to get my son's hair cut. Sly did a great job with his unruly hair. If you want to have a nice haircut, do not go here. They are really rough with your head and don't care about the equipment burning up on your ears or skin. They completely disregard any requests and just cut your hair however they see fit. They aren't friendly or welcoming, so despite the nice $$, it is far worth paying a little extra for anywhere else. read more

I'm a girl who buzzed her hair a few months ago and is in the process of growing it back out - I was nervous to get my first razored-in part but they did an amazing job. He also has a versatility in more complex cuts, like the fade mixed with a longer, pompadour styled grown out top (Macklemore). I've been growing my locs for 7 years. They got really unhealthy and I resisted for so long but eventually I knew it was time to cut them. I was so nervous. I waked in and the barbers immediately made me feel comfortable just by the way in which they were interacting with everyone in the shop. They were personable, kind, and easy going. Sly told me to trust him and I pushed back a little at first because I was nervous, but he constantly reassured me that I was in good hands and once I calmed down I realized that he was right! My boyfriend went and had a horrible experience. They fucked up his hair so bad, I had to break up with him. I mean, I love the guy, but this hair.. My first haircut was as good as the one I got today, three years after first coming in. If the friendly and quick service wasn't enough, at $12 for a regular haircut, Sly is the best value in Boston. Sly's Barbershop is the place to go for your haircut. Sly himself is extremely friendly, polite and a genuine guy. He makes you feel welcome the minute you open his door with a friendly greeting. He's a great guy, there are two other women that work with him as well, I got to meet one of them and she was just as friendly. As for the haircut, I'm in the Army so I like my high and tight real short, crisp and clean looking. I didn't have to explain anything to him, he got started immediately and gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in years. The bottom line is the dude knows how to cut hair, and cut it well. I'm going to start going here on the regular because it was such a good experience. Did I mention his prices are unbeatable for the boston/cambridge area? He only charges 12$ a haircut which is what I use to pay back home in my small home town. Haven't paid less than 20$ since ive been in Boston till i went here. Unbeatable. His shop is small but has plenty of seats if your waiting and 4 barber chairs total. He's got a big flat screen TV to watch your morning Sportscenter highlights which is a must for anyone. He is located right next to Basta Pasta, I think he should look into a barber pole to put out side of the shop because it is easy to miss, I live across the street and didn't find him until I googled barbershops in the area. Between him, his haircuts, prices and shop you can't ask for a better barber and shop.
