Very nice, wide open, walk-in friendly, great pricing.. she doesn't do straight-razor shaves though, so if this is part of your barber experience, it may influence using them. Otherwise, a fine job. read more

I found this place when I lived in Somerville and glad I did! Ann Marie cut my hair once (maybe 2x), but she always remembers me and is just an overall sweet and kind person. Natalie usually cuts my hair and has always done a great job. Onetime one side was a little longer than the other so I came back a few days later asked her to touch it up. Not only did she not charge me for it, she refused to take any money. Be warned though- if you're not in the area, CALL AHEAD. Sometimes they aren't open during their normal business hours. Yeah you can complain about that, but a great cut at a great price by great people? I'll deal with calling ahead of time. read more

I went in to the store with a friend and thought about getting a hair cut but decided not to at the last minute and owner gave me shit for not getting a haircut even though I said I would come back another day. Met the owner once and didn't have the best experience with her. The haircuts here are good but the shop has a weird energy to it. I'd recommend this place if you need a trim but not the best place for conversations. read more

Great place for quick, cheap haircut. The sisters are chatty so sometimes the conversation makes the visit little longer. But it's better than having rude barbers in other places. The only complaint I have is the hours posted is not accurate. When I go to get haircut on Saturdays, they don't open at 12pm as they say read more

Ann Marie's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

Excellent place -- the staff has a good sense of what I want in a haircut and can give me a neat, even cut in little time.

She is now my main squeeze. I mean that. Natalie and her sister co-own this tiny little hair-cuttery and my experience was nothing short of awesome. I'm the type of guy that HATES getting my haircut... i'm terrified of uncomfortable forced conversations, and Natalie was far, far, far from my fears. It was completely empty when I entered, and the conversation was incredibly pleasant and natural. AND my haircut was super cute... in fact, i'd even call it a haircute. Oh, and did I mention it was only $10? Apparently, they've owned this place for like 30 years or something crazy like that, and she provided me with an awesome history of Davis Square... where it's been... the struggles... how it is now... I'm actually shocked that I'm the first to review this hidden gem... The place was clean, it was comfortable, and I promise you, Natalie is now my main squeeze. read more

Hands down, one of the best places to get your hair cut. Right near the heart of Davis, past Johnny D's, across the street from the Davis T stop and Au Bon Pain, this little place offers a quick and easy experience with your hair-cutting needs. As there can be a wait during the evening hours, I can promise you it is worth it. They get everyone in and out. Their steady hands always do a great job. I have been getting my hair cut here for years and I am always satisfied by their work. I used to live in Somerville but since have moved away to Woburn, but I still make the effort to get my hair cut here. For guys, 10 bucks and women 14 bucks, it's definitely a great price. If you are looking for a good place to get your hair cut with a friendly and laid-back atmosphere, Ann Marie's is the place to go. Check it out! read more

Got tired of the sub-par haircut at Salon Femia for $30, so decided to branch out and see what else was around. I had my hair cut by Natalie today. I walked in and only waited for 2 minutes. I can imagine it being a much longer wait if there are a few people in line. I was a little nervous that Natalie approximated a size 2 guard with her razor and a comb, but somehow she did an incredible job! She was fast, efficient, and most importantly I loved the cut. Conversation, which I typically dread while getting my hair cut, was refreshingly natural. Natalie is a sweetheart. I was almost afraid to leave a review, thinking that the longer this place stays unnoticed, the less I'll have to wait to get my haircut. But, it was too good to keep secret. I can't believe they only charge $10! Go here, you'll love it. Tip: Call ahead to check on the line to make sure there isn't a long wait. read more

The Best! Plain and simple... Ann and Natalie have been running their barber shop since I was in High School. They are legends in Davis Square. Nobody charges $10 for a men's haircut. NOBODY! Always fun going in and shooting the breeze with them and any of their random customers. Go and check them out. You won't regret it! read more

Pretty good. You can only pay in cash. $10 for the haircut, maybe $2 for tip. The quality of the haircut is also decent. There are several drawbacks, however. There are only two chairs in which you can get a haircut, the wait can tend to get a little bit long, depending on the day. Be sure to get there on a day with low traffic, or in the morning. Also, the people who work here don't have very good work ethic, in that they sometimes just don't show up to work, leaving a lot of people waiting outside of the shop expecting them to show up. Furthermore, while this place is advertised to open at 11 and close at 5, the reality is that the people here usually don't show up to work until 11:30 earliest (in my experience), and usually close up shop before 5. When coming here, timing is very important. Consider calling ahead read more

This is a great place for a haircut! Definitely feels like an old-fashioned, friendly barber shop. The women who work there are friendly and welcoming, they've been there forever, and they do a great job too - I got some nice haircuts there. For $10, they're probably some of the best value haircuts you'll ever find. They definitely feel like a community fixture. Be sure to bring cash! read more

Rude & disrespectful ( to ME, Ann Marie is) But Natalie is just wonderful!! Ask for Natalie to cut your hair, if you go She Sweet & NICE! Thank You. P.S. She( Ann Marie) is nice to everyone else though? So I guess I'm Ugly or something? What I do? Geez? Mustard read more

Ann Marie's Barber Shop - This is Groovy! - Barbers Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

I have been going here exclusively for the past year for haircuts and don't plan on changing that. They are friendly and talkative yet efficient. I have been happy with every haircut at Ann Marie's. Given that they do a great job and charge only $12 for a men's haircut, I see no reason not to go back every time. read more

Terrific barber shop. In addition to giving great haircuts at unbeatable prices, Ann Marie and Natalie are kind and take a genuine interest in their customers. A gem of the Davis Sq neighborhood. 5 stars. read more

Really nice people! Only ever had to wait ~7 mins max out of all the times I've visited! No appointment needed, hassle free! Really cheap too! read more

They do me right every time. I always love a haircut and chat with Ann.

Just needed a quick bang trim. Had never been before, walked in, she took care of me and charged me TWO DOLLARS!!!! Gave her a five and still felt like I was robbing her. Go! Support! read more

I made an account just to rate this place. Ann and Natalie run the best local barbershop in the city. 10$ for a men's cut, with free touch-ups if you don't like it after a few days. They're keystones of the Davis Square community, and have surprisingly accurate memories, even if you only get a cut every few months. I'm not much of a talker when I get my hair cut, and even though Ann can probably talk for a week straight, she made me feel comfortable and didn't try and make me talk if I didn't want to. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

This place may be alright if you are taking your kid there or getting a VERY simple men's buzz cut, but I seriously recommend reconsidering if you are a girl. They just don't know how to handle anything more complicated, unfortunately, which is a shame because the price is right! read more

Efficient but not hurried, friendly but not overly chatty, my hair turned out exactly how I wanted. I have shoulder length thin hair and I wanted a trim plus a couple of layers. I walked in a few days before Christmas and there was no line. Couldn't have had a better experience. read more

In town for a wedding and popped in for a quick buzz due to the Yelp reviews. Outstanding customer service and a great conversation while getting my haircut. Great job and friendly service for only $10. Highly recommended! read more

Agreed. These ladies are great. Its a quick, walk-in, cash only spot. Don't know how good they are with your trendy shaggy guy cuts, but they handled a standard fade for me very well. Only $10 and I had to basically fight with her to give her a $5 dollar tip, its like she wouldnt mind doing it for free. read more

I go here because it's the best deal for a regular guy's hair cut - just $10! The ladies who work here are nice, even if they sometimes do chat a lot. Normally I can just walk in and get in and out within a half hour, though sometimes they take a little longer than they should because they chat a lot. Overall great place though. read more

Long lines but great chats and hair cuts at excellent prices. Try topping this place!

They do an amazing job cutting my hair just the way I like it, trim my beard perfectly, and even trim my eyebrows (guys, when was the last time that happened?). And they do all this for a fantastic price with a friendly smile and chat. read more

Gentlemen (and Ladies too !) - I won't write a story here. I found reviews of this place on Yelp earlier today, $10 price tag was enough to grab my attention. I went - I got a haircut-I came out happier than the last 5 times my hair had been worked on by a barber. Total cost $15 with the tip. If you are after a simple, clean, quick and perfect cut -Walk right in. This is a barber shop run by 2 sisters and they make you feel very welcome. Ann is fabulous as she keeps you entertained with her chatter while she gives you a cleanup. This is not a salon so probably not for those needing to dress up for a wedding or a special occasion. Men who need "regular" cuts -don't pay more elsewhere. This is worth your every penny. read more

I appreciate the price and friendly ownership. However, I waited for over an hour today past when they said they would open. I find their hours to not be set in stone and often frustrating. if you are going to list them online, please show up. If you are looking for an affordable and decent haircut, this place is great. However, make sure to leave time in your day just in case they decide they don't want to come in on time. read more

Best barber shop in Somerville. Totally WYSIWYG, which is awesome. No pressure to buy products. No gimmicks. No pretence... Just an excellent old fashioned barber shop that could charge double and still be a good deal. Both of the women who work there are personable, great conversationalists with that fun wisdom that only real barbers seem to have. I'll likely never go anywhere else. Also, they know the area very well and can talk on just about anything and will give you the heads up when the meter maid is near. read more

Now I m there regular :) Best in somerville!!! Friendly, kind n best quality is nice haircut. I have been going there from last 6 months. No change in service. Highly Recommended ... oh yaa $10 only for haircut...isnt is nice :) read more

Love this place. $10 cut (cash only) and very good service. No appointments so sometimes there's a wait but they're pretty quick so it's well worth it. read more

Very good place to get a quick haircut that looks great in an easily accessible location. The lady who cut my hair understood very well what I wanted and was able to get my hair cut very quickly. Even though there were two people ahead of me and there was only one person cutting hair, the wait was very short. Just remember to bring cash to pay ($10 for haircut). read more

I moved into the Somerville area almost a year ago and needed a haircut badly. Not knowing of any good places to go, I decided to risk it and walk into Ann Marie's. I was very pleasantly surprised. These two sisters have been cutting hair for over two decades and they produce excellent results. Even more amazing is the extremely low $10 charge. Since that first day, I've loyally returned every single month or so. However, today I walked in for a haircut and had an important meeting in an hour. I figured that would be plenty of time for a haircut, since there was no one in line. After waiting patiently for 15 minutes for the older sister to leisurely settle herself, I politely informed her that I was short for time and asked if she thought she could give me a quick, simple haircut and have me out the door in about 25 min (she usually cuts my hair in much less time). Her answer was a curt, "probably not." Then she added, "I'm not gonna rush," in a very dismissive and disrespectful manner -- the way an irritated adult will often speak to a child. I was completely embarrassed in front of her sister and the customer she was attending to. So I walked out and left to my meeting without getting my hair cut. After the meeting, I found another place that charges almost twice as much as Ann Marie's. However, I will be cutting my hair at this new location from now on. I would rather spend my money at a costlier, further business than be treated poorly at a cheaper, closer one. For a business that relies on repeat, local customers, they sure know how to lose one. read more

Great, quick service. I was in and out in about 30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. The place has a nice friendly atmosphere and the cut I got was straightforward and well done. $10 is a fantastic price, I'll definitely be going back again. read more

I got my hair cut my natalie today - and she was so lovely! My hair is medium length and she only took about 20 minutes to dry cut my hair. She was pleasant, talkative, and overall a sweet heart who did a great job on my hair. I will definitely come back for my next hair cut. It was only $17 including tip! The only downside is that they don't take appointments, and about 3 men got their hair cut before it was my turn. But Natalie is speedy with men's cuts so I only waited about half an hour. The men waiting to go after me obviously had to wait a little longer since I was getting a women's cut so I'm sure they weren't happy with me (but I don't really care that much). You can't beat the price! One star off because you can't book an appointment, but everything else about this place is 5/5 stars! read more

I just came from there about a half hour ago. Was looking for a decent haircut for a decent price and came upon this listing. Went right over and got myself a good haircut for $10.00. ($15.00 with tip included) There was several people there already waiting but I still only had to wait about a half hour. Still very much worth it though. I commented that the place must be doing well and "Natalie" said that they're much busier early in the month and that it wasn't usually that swamped. Will definitely be going back for my next cut and many more to come. read more

I went here several times because it costs $10 cash for mens haircut, its fast, and its an old fashioned barber shop. The younger sister cut my hair the first times. It was satisfactory for the price, but still a poor quality haircut. I had the older sister cut my hair the last time. I only wanted the sides cut and asked her to leave the top alone. She proceeded to cut some of the top, so I then asked her to cut the top politely. I was dissatisfied with the unevenness in length on top. I told her this and she was very defensive and began talking loudly and rudely. "I did what you told me to do!". It was as if her goal was to embarrass me in front of the rest of the shop. She proceeded to cut sloppily with an attitude, an electric razor in one hand and a comb in the other. I just said ok I am fine with it. She told me that I could come back, with a condescending attitude, suggesting I was too picky. When I got home I noticed a clear electric razor line above one of my ears, but not the other. Then I went to another barber (Dentes) and he told me that it was worse on the back where she had cut some areas really short and left other alone. The worst part about the whole thing was that I realized I did not like what she did during the haircut, told her, and then I received what seemed like deliberate sabotage. In addition, it was a stressful experience. If you go, don't criticize after the damage is done and don't expect to get exactly what you want. read more

So the chair is a little worn but the haircut is great and the price can't be beat. The location in the heart of Davis square is a big plus for me too. Recommended. read more
