The bike trail is such a pretty ride! It's a 9 mile ride from Foster park and dups you right into the heart of downtown Ojai. I ride my bike on much longer and difficult rides regularly. However if you are someone who doesn't do a lot of trails or mileage, this really is an easy, pretty ride. The path is paved like 99% of the time, there are a few pretty bridges, and there are signs along the way, I promise you won't get lost. There's plenty of shade from the large trees making the weather so nice even if it's a hot day. Plus, you can see the little downtown Ojai area when you're done!

Great place for the kids to play! Right off the freeway too. The park has lots of shade & is very clean!! Great for a picnic & swimming in the river. Dont forget your sunscreen & water shoes!! (Lots of rocks) For those who ride the bus: the #16 bus leaves you right by the entrance!

The small waterfall of the river

I loved this park! The river is one of the cleanest I have seen. The water is so clear and cold but it is very slippery be careful and wear shoes the rocks are pointy and they hurt my bare feet. Perfect for during the week relaxation but during the weekends it gets packed with people having parties. Many drink and smoke and bring grills and dogs so be prepared. If you come early you can enjoy the river in peace

Trail from residence to red mountain campgrounds.

This park is another shining example of why it is so great to live in Ventura County. Kudos to the Ventura County Parks employees and the Rangers for what they do. Park is small, quiet and very clean. I had site 8 which is huge and super fun for the kids. Lots of oak trees, climbing rocks and even a bridge over a stream in my campsite. The hiking in the area is outstanding and there are some cool old relics to see like the old amphitheater. The park is well policed by the camp host and the ranger who I saw quite frequently. This is definitely a low key family park not for partiers be advised. The hookups are in good shape and placed well. Excellent fire rings and the concrete slabs were some of the best I have seen. My site had one that was 63' I was blown away. I have really enjoyed Tapo St and Foster. I'm going back in March!

So quiet and just off the highway to Ojai. Plenty of shade, plenty of parking...nice and peaceful.

Is the park at the entrance open on weekends? Found it by mistake and asked people said it is closed on weekends.. wanted to go back it very nice and fun

Not sure why they close on weekends. But yes its close. However you can park under the bridge at no coat and walk to the river. Hope this helps!

Is the abandoned amphitheater still there? I was thinking of doing some photography this weekend.

Hi, Apparently there is. It is further north towards oak view. I have just stay in the opening to the park. There's a FB page that promotes trying to save it. " save foster… Read more

This is my FAVE park in Ventura because - IMO - it has everything you need for a great day at the…read morebeach. Let's start with FREE PARKING! Some local beaches are starting to charge, but this one still offers PLENTY of free parking. In addition, there are multiple playgrounds - including a pirate galleon from when the park was established during my childhood, a THOUSAND years ago! It doesn't have the zip line that caused me to smash my leg into the concrete side, leaving a still visible scar 1,000 years later, which is probably for the best, but a kinder/gentler playground with more modern amenities for today's active child. There is also an expansive grass area, where you will find many local pups bounding about with joy. On the grassy areas, BBQs! Also a protected, man made beach cove with an easy enter, small to no wave water entry. Lots of families prefer to set up their space on the green grass and then make their way to the beach, which is an ideal way to have your picnic sand free! A foot shower is also available to rinse the beach off before you settle back onto your blanket. Plenty of benches, tables and a bathroom that is, if I'm being completely honest, acceptable, but could use an upgrade. If you're more active, make your way to the public dock to launch your kayak, paddle board, etc. I've also seen people fishing from this dock and launching remote control boats - so cute! If you haven't brought your own board or boat, there is a rental kiosk handily available. This is also a great park to stroll through. A clear path goes from the parking lot to the tip of the Ventura Harbor entrance, known as Soter Point, where a beautiful sculpture stands. When I think of the perfect beach park, I think of Marina Park in Ventura. Cheers! "CC"

I've spent countless mornings and afternoons here hiking, clearing my head, and getting a great workout in while still enjoying nature. The trails are well maintained with multiple options, so you can keep it light or make it more challenging depending on your mood. The views are beautiful, especially in the early morning or at sunset, and it never feels overly crowded. It has a calm, local Ventura vibe that I really appreciate. I've also brought kids I nanny here for walks and fresh air (sticking to the easier areas), and it's such a great space to reset. One thing to note: when it's hot, be cautious of snakes on the trails--proper shoes and awareness are important. If you're looking for a reliable, scenic place to hike in Ventura that locals truly love, Arroyo Verde Park is a must.

In the middle of the park is the toddler playground and then at the end of the park is the larger playground area for older children. There is lots of grass and a grass hillside. The highlight for me was the toddler playground. I work with children and often like to meet at parks to see their gross motor skills and work on them. This is one of the few parks left I have seen with sand. The park was very clean and even though there were many dogs off leash running around, pet owners were quite aware of where their dogs were and I didn't see any dog poop in the grass. You also can't beat that gorgeous ocean view. I came on a Friday late afternoon when they don't charge a park fee. Big plus!

It was on the coolish side, but the abundance of sunshine made it seem warmer. We had an early dinner down on Main Street. Where we parked there was a sign indicating that the eastern entrance to Grant Park was nearby. We had been up there perhaps only once in the past, and we'd gone in from the west. The drive up in the late afternoon / early evening had the golden glow magic to it. The light was amazing! I was driving and marveling at every twist and turn on the roadway while ascending the hills. The wildflowers and green groundcover from winter's rains made the scenery even more breathtaking than it might be when the grasses start to turn golden instead of green. I was able to drive all the way to the top parking lot, which overlooks the Serra Cross, and the entire Ventura coastline. The view encompasses the pier, the harbor, then beyond out to Channel Islands Harbor, Port Hueneme, and the western edge of the Santa Monica Mountains. It solidified my feelings in that moment of gratitude for enjoying life in Ventura County for the past 40 years. A gorgeous view on a clear day can do that for a person. When a sunny day happens, and the winds are calm, I can recommend taking a drive up to the top of Grant Park to make some of your daily cares seem very small. Looking down on the city / county from on high helped lift my spirits and added joy to my birthday celebrations.

A loved one first brought me here when I was about nine years old, and the memory has stayed with me ever since. Now that he's no longer with me, I find myself returning--not just to enjoy the scenery, but to remember the love he showed me by introducing me to places like this at such a young age. April is his birthday month, and I visited again just last week. I breathed in the scent of fresh lavender, sat in the sun over Easter weekend, and wandered the grounds at my own pace. Every moment of that solitude felt meaningful. Yes, this may sound a bit sentimental--but it really is that special. It's a beautiful place.
