As a nanny and a self-proclaimed hiking queen, Arroyo Verde Park has been one of my go-to outdoor spots for about five years now. I've spent countless mornings and afternoons here hiking, clearing my head, and getting a great workout in while still enjoying nature. The trails are well maintained with multiple options, so you can keep it light or make it more challenging depending on your mood. The views are beautiful, especially in the early morning or at sunset, and it never feels overly crowded. It has a calm, local Ventura vibe that I really appreciate. I've also brought kids I nanny here for walks and fresh air (sticking to the easier areas), and it's such a great space to reset. One thing to note: when it's hot, be cautious of snakes on the trails--proper shoes and awareness are important. First time visiting this park. It's like a mini valley where you have to large hillsides on each side. When you first drive it, it's a lot of grass and picnic tables. In the middle of the park is the toddler playground and then at the end of the park is the larger playground area for older children. There is lots of grass and a grass hillside. The highlight for me was the toddler playground. I work with children and often like to meet at parks to see their gross motor skills and work on them. This is one of the few parks left I have seen with sand. The park was very clean and even though there were many dogs off leash running around, pet owners were quite aware of where their dogs were and I didn't see any dog poop in the grass. You also can't beat that gorgeous ocean view. I came on a Friday late afternoon when they don't charge a park fee. Big plus! read more

Such a beautiful park close to home! My kids love their new playground so we are here often. They have slides, swings, a spinning ride, music instruments and so much more. I love sitting on a bench under a tree and read a book while my kids enjoy their time in the playground. I love their hiking trails! There's so many pretty flowers, trees and green everywhere! We don't do the really long ones, but we still enjoy our hikes a lot! There's always at least a couple of other people hiking there, but everyone is always so respectful and dogs are kept on leashes, although every dog we have came across has been friendly. read more

The children's parks here are some of the best in Ventura! There are drums, mock piano keys for children to run over, and a large xylophone. My daughter enjoys the slides, swings, balance beam, seesaw, and the nutrition station. Did I mention this park has some of the most impressive hiking trails too? You can see the ocean from the top, and sitting on the benches makes for a nice place to practice mindfulness, reflect, meditate, appreciate nature, or just relax! read more

Beautiful hike! Park is kept clean. Man did I get a workout! I did 50 floors as most of my hike was at an incline. Def love this spot! The mustard flowers are everywhere and unfortunately, the poppies didn't bloom but that's ok. Bumped into other friendly hikers. My husband and I have been here twice already and is easily one of our favorite spots. The park is really big which is really nice. A lot of dog owners like to come and have their dogs run around when you enter. I am a dog person so I love walking near them all. I love how many BBQ areas there are spread around. There are even bigger areas where you can easily throw a bigger event. They are close to the kids playground which is smart so parents can watch. We primarily go for the hiking areas. My husband tends to use a carrier for our one year old son. Some of the hills are a bit steep but luckily they are short so it wasn't to rough. We will be coming back more often. read more

What an awesome park! The inclusive playground area is the main part of the park that impressed me. There's accessible parking in a few areas. There's a parking lot right next to the inclusive park area. It's $3 cash to park inside Arroyo Verde Park. Totally worth it in my opinion. The inclusive park area has so many fun things for kids. There's musical instruments to play, climbing structures, a merry-go-round style structure that spins, hammocks (very uncomfortable) swings, and a teeter-totter. There's a bigger play structure with bridges and slides, but also a smaller one for the younger kiddos. The younger kid's playground area has a farm theme with chickens and eggs. So cute! The park is surrounded by trees and mountains. There are trails for hiking that are accessible at the park too. We didn't venture outside of the playground area, but Arroyo Verde Park is huge. It has a ton of open grass where we saw a lot of people with their dogs. They have picnic tables where people were setting up for parties. There is also another small playground with sand in the middle of the grassy area. There's also public restrooms. This part seems to have it all! read more

A beautiful and huge place! My friends and I did the hike/walk loop and it was beautiful! There are some steeper parts, but do-able. It took us about an hour and a half just walking. I loved how there were beautiful greenery, poppies, and other flowers surrounding us. They also have a playground and picnic benches that can accommodate parties/gatherings. I would note I did see dog poop throughout the trail, and although there is a sign that said to keep dogs on leashes there were some that weren't. read more

Arroyo Verde Park is the best park in Ventura/Oxnard. - if you are looking to have a party, this is a great place. They have big areas where you can reserve and host a big party. We haven't done this yet but every time we go, there's always a big party going on. Bathrooms are clean and plentiful. - if you are looking to have a small party or get together, this is a great place to also do that. There's lots of park tables and bbq areas you can use and it's never full. - has one of the best playgrounds for kids. My son loves going here because of the unique swings they have. The park also has a toddler lot that's nice also - and my family's favorite reason to go here is the hiking trail. It's about a 2 mile loop and gives you quite a workout. When you get to the top you are rewarded with some great views of Ventura and the Pacific Ocean (on a clear day). If you love to hike, definitely try the trail here. Some other things to note is that if you go into the park with a car, there is a parking fee. My family parks outside the park as there is street parking and connects to the hiking trail. Overall we're lucky to have an awesome park like this near us and look forward to coming here again. read more

Verde indeed! What a fabulous and verdant park with so many uses! There are hiking trails which one can traverse and take their adventure-pet along. It has multiple jungle gyms, a baseball diamond, ample green space for outdoor activities, games, soccer, football, etc. Lots of picnic tables, grills and trash cans allow for small or large groups/events including birthday parties and room for rental tables and bounce-houses. It appears to be first come, first served. Parking spaces for vehicles may be harder to come by on busy warm weekends. Cost is $3 CASH to enter and park. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Had a fantastic morning hike today! There are so many different off-shoots and little side trails! It makes for a great day of spontaneity bc you can just go all over the place. And all the little trials seem to just kinda circle around back to the parking areas (which were ample btw) so we never got lost lol! There are some steep inclines so you can get a decent workout. There's also a very large, green park that seemed to be a dog park and everyone was having fun! The views from the top take you all the way over to Ventura and the ocean so it was really lovely. And we had a breezy morning that helped cool us down since there isn't much shade on the trails. It's very sunny and dusty so be sure to wear sunscreen and hats and bring some good hiking boots with good traction or you could slide down the steep inclines. read more

Large park with well-paved hiking trails. I'm sure the trails are a lot nicer in the spring, but it was very dry and dusty. There are lots of different paths with varying levels of steepness so there's something for everyone! On a clear day you can get a nice view of the ocean. Be sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen since there isn't much shade. We walked through the park and there were lots of parties/BBQs during the weekend and the playground looked fun! Not sure how much it costs to pay for parking, but there's plenty of free street parking right outside the entrance. read more

This park was fairly large with a lot of tables located throughout and plenty of grassy areas for the pets and the kids. There were also some pretty good trails around, but steep in some areas. I would say overall it was a good place for someone who is looking for a nice uphill hike or for someone who is trying to get their family outside since it was wide open. read more

One of my favorite parks in Ventura because of the variety of opportunities that you have. From a hike, to bbq's, to hills for ice blocking, to a park for my girl to play, to a large green grass area to run and play, etc. The park does charge to park inside, but if you want to save a few bucks or get a few more steps in, you can always park on Foothill or Day Rd then walk in. They provide restrooms that are well kept. Arroyo Verde Park can get very busy so if you need a permit for the larger day use area or to put up an inflatable, be sure to contact the city with plenty of notice because they fill up fast. If you are going to use the small grills, be sure to get there early and grab a table because it's first come, first serve. There are opportunities for easy and intermediate hikes, which have markers. Dogs are welcome on the leash. Very often people don't clean up after their animals which can be frustrating, but it doesn't take away from the views and smells of the land. There is some room for cross country training. Enjoy the time with your family or some alone time for yourself. It's a fairly safe park, other than the occasional snake in the warmer times. There are signs posted about bobcats with the directions of what to do if and when you spot one. Sunday's seem to be the busiest day. This park is pretty big has quite a bit to offer from the young to the elderly. Parking in the lot is $5 (when we came this Saturday, it was free) but there is street parking available on Foothill or Day. Theres lots of space for the pups to run around and even has off leash hours. For the most part, I saw good behaving pups and owners. There's also a bathroom nearby with a few water bowls for the pups. Going back farther, you see different playgrounds and I believe its based on the age of the kids. I think there were about three different playgrounds and of course quite a few picnic tables, a bbq area and best of all, trails! With all the rain socal had gotten, the trails were breathtaking, especially with the ocean view at the top of the trail. We were told there's a lot of poison ivy on the trail, so keep your hands closer to your body and not grabbing all the leaves for photo ops! read more

We went on Mother's Day morning, I really enjoyed the beauty around me! Can't wait to go and challenge myself going up that big steep hill!

Lots of potential due to the beauty and size of the park, but in mornings the park is overrun with unleashed dogs, that mob any poor dog that dares to stay on leash. I'm new to the area (2023), and people like me that like their dogs to stay on leash (like the numerous signs proclaim) are essentially bullied from the park by the crowd of unleashed dogs that want to 'welcome' each new arrival. The park is a great resource, but I don't see me or my dog as returning. Shame on the City of Ventura for condoning this behavior. An easy solution is to add a fenced "off-leash" area, but I don't know the history or politics of what's going on. read more

The park and trails are both open, as is the on-site parking lot ($2/hr or $5/max). Please bring a mask! The BBQ areas are still closed as of 8/2. The best part of the Arroyo Verde trails is that there are regular pathways throughout that allow you to cut straight down into the park if you end up having less steam than you anticipated. Otherwise, continue on and you'll loop back around. While patrons are pretty good about bagging droppings in the grassy park area, please remember to pick up after your pet if you take him with you up into the trails. Finally, here's the obligatory reminder that you can park street side on Foothill or Day for free if you prefer to walk in. Just note any parking signs for timing restrictions. read more

The park is beautiful! It cost $2 for one hour or $5 maximum to park inside. I noticed some people were parking on the street and walking in. I went on a Saturday, 8/3/2019, and noticed there were a lot of dogs off leash in the grassy area/parking lot. We took our dog on the trail-hike and I saw that dog were on leashes there. The reason for four stars instead of five, because I feel that there should have been a fenced-in area for people who want there dogs off the leash. read more

This is such a great park. I live closer to Camino Real park which is good for baseball playing or running around the park but if you are looking for great hikes, this is the best out of the two. Parking fee applies but plenty of street parking right outside the gates. There are several different hikes and different levels of difficulty. If you want something quick you can do a smaller one and still get the workout. If you have more time in your hands take the longer ones. On clear days you can see the ocean from the top of the hills. There are times when you can bring your furry baby and set them off leash. So if you want your doggie to socialize bring 'em over. I've seeing families bringing blocks of ice and sliding down the hills, can't wait to try that. Another gem I found today? A little free library!! I was so excited!!! It's right at the beginning of the park (right side) Just bring water to the hikes, it gets pretty hot, there's a water fountain and bathrooms on the middle of the park but not on trails...bushes don't count ;) read more

Calling ALL outdoorsy, nature-loving people! I am so excited to know that this is pretty much in my back yard! What seems to be a park with a huge playground, picnic tables and BBQ pits.... Actually houses wonderful hikes for different levels of intensity! The actual hike starts off very minimal with an incline of "wow, this is not so steep." Then it goes from 0 to 30 incline out of no where, in a good way. If you need a change from the normal indoor, crowded gyms this is a great place to get a full body workout! There are different ridges where u get different views of Channel Islands, the Pacific Ocean and Buenaventura. I will definitely be back tondo the other 2 ridges!!!!! read more

I love Arroyo Verde! I come here several times each week to hike and sometimes jog. I see many of the same folks there, always so friendly on the trail. My boyfriend and I have trained on these trails for Half Dome and several intense backpacking trips. You can switch up the trails to make them harder or easier per your fitness level. On the weekends, don't be surprised if it's packed with parties and get together. Sometimes loud music is being played, jolly jumps are out, and it smells of delicious BBQ. A great family party. My one complaint is many people unfortunately do not clean up after their animals... dog poop lines the sides and sometimes the middle of the trails and when it's hot, it stinks. I've met some kind hearted folks who actually go there to pick up other people's dog poop because it's so bad and we just want to enjoy a clean park and trail. Other than that, this park is such a blessing to the surrounding area and I just hope we get some rain soon so it's not so brown and dry. read more

This is a very beautiful area. A ton of looping trails, beautiful park with playgrounds & BBQ pits, and a lot of parking. I've brought my dog here and haven't had an issue with any other dog owners. All very well behaved dogs even though they were not leashed. They even have off leash dog hours on the park grass, though I've never been since it's not fenced in. If you don't have a dog, go After 9 a.m. or on Monday to enjoy flowers, birds and views on some challenging hilly trails, as well as lower, flatter trails.
