This is hands-down one of our favorite lunch spots. From the moment you walk in, you feel like a regular--even if it's your first visit. Normally it's a good Chinese restaurant, but we ordered take out on Sunday 5/24 and it was awful. Pot stickers sauce was like watered down soy sauce, Mongolian beef was tasteless, no spices at all, orange chicken needed more sauce. If this was first time I ate there I would never return. The sign simply said, "We will be open Christmas Eve and Christmas" on the door of this walk in Chinese Restaurant we often visit. But no more!!! We traveled clear across town for someone who really does not care about his customers, only to be turned away, by someone who. all of a sudden, was asking for reservations. We had to find a new Chinese restaurant after our local favorite restaurant closed. A little farther away, but well worth the drive was the Fortune Inn. My wife Beef Chop Suey dinner was great, my Beef Broccoli dinner was also delicious. There was a generous portion of beef and broccoli, the beef was thinly sliced and very tender and flavorful, the dinner comes with a chicken wing, egg roll and soup, my egg drop was good . Only thing missing was Chinese mustard, but I did not ask when picking up. Good food, good carry out recommendation 100%... give them a try!!! read more

We had been eating in this restaurant for several times and never had any bad feelings or uncomfortable experiences. The owner including all staffs providing us an excellent food and service every time in no matter what in what day or time.I can see so many returning customers eating there whenever day or night. Sometimes they are too rushed because of both dine in and pickup orders coming together. I can say almost every businesses are lack of manpower. Not bad. A bit more pricy than some places, but much more chicken than anywhere else I've tried, served on a bed of lettuce. The lemon sauce was a bit thin. I ordered extra sauce, but wasn't needed. On the whole, everything was pretty good. I'll be back to try something else. read more

I recently ordered dinner from Fortune Inn and was very disappointed. I ordered Szechuan shrimp, which was terrible. I also ordered fantail shrimp, which definitely prepared frozen food from a box. The meal included 2 sauces. Both sauces tasted liked they had been watered down, possibly to save money. I hated ordered from the Fortune many times in the past 25 years or more and have never had a bad meal. This was absolutely the worst Chinese food that I have ever had. Didn't have the food here because the service was atrocious. Ordered takeout and was told an hour wait. Went to pickup, person at the counter: "name?" No 'hello' or anything else. Walks to the back. Comes back. "We don't have anything with that name. What did you order?" I tell him the order, he goes to the back, comes back out and proceeds to do other things. Doesn't provide me with any update or info. A few minutes later another employee comes up and I asked how much longer. Another 30 minutes or more. She apologizes and says that it's just this busy every year (Christmas Eve). Okay, so you all know what to expect and aren't prepared. This is one of my favorite local restaurants. The food is always good, the server is nice, you can get sit down and enjoy a quick meal in less than 20 min. Subtle flavor would a generous term for our entrees today. The Hot and Sour Soup was good but lacked vegetables, especially bean sprouts and golden needles. Both are almost always found in Hot and Sour Soup. The Egg Rolls were thin skinned cabbage style but tasted good. The Garlic Chicken was listed with a star (spicy) but there wasn't single bit of heat and any garlic was just waved over the wok. In other words, the sauce could have come from soup can. The Shrimp with Cashews was passable with nice size shrimp and a variety of vegetable and enough cashews for this dish. I was in the area and had a taste for Chinese food. I ordered the Szechuan beef lunch from the Fortune Inn. The vegetables were good and so was the sauce (although not spicy like I requested). The egg roll was ok too. Something about that "beef" was definitely off though and I did not like the smooth texture. BUT, my biggest issue was with the shrimp spring roll that I ordered. We enjoy this little place. They have the best wonton soup near us & the Hot and Sour soup is really great (especially if you have a cold and need something spicy). The crispy beef is unlike anything I've had at other Chinese restaurants. It's not breaded, it's crystalized outside and super tender inside. We love it. I used to wonder how this place stayed in business, having a fairly large seating area, as there never seems to be anyone in there. But when you dine in, you see a consistent stream of people getting takeout orders which must be the vast bulk of their business. This is one of the best Chinese Restaurant I've ever been too, not just Toledo but anywhere. As Megan says the ingredients are always fresh, high quality. And the portions are huge. Unfortunately my wife isn't much for Chinese. She once went off on a family thing leaving me to fend for myself. I ate here four or five days in a row. This place is in the plaza at the southwest corner of McCord and Central. The Yelp map sometimes shows it on the other side of Toledo, apparently not able to locate this address properly. read more

This is my favorite Chinese Restaurant in Toledo. By far the best Egg Rolls, without a doubt the best Hot and Sour Soup. I like the Chicken w/ peanuts dishes...because I like Chicken and Peanuts! It is excellent. Best, freshest most tender chicken around. The Mongolian beef is good beef, but their preparation is not traditional and not my favorite. The hostess is charming and very friendly (unlike some reviewers have mentioned) and asks about my family and friends on every visit. I usually have lunch there and have occasionally had dinner and frequently carry out. We have systematically tried as many different Chinese restaurants in the commuting area around Toledo and have been to too many mediocre places, this is best by far. Highly recommended. read more

I have ordered food from here before with no issues;however, yesterday I ordered schezwan chicken with pork fried rice. This order tasted ok, but they didn't put any pork in the fried rice and there was little to no chicken in the schezwan. Awful Chinese. Ordered 4 different items, broccoli chicken, Kung pow shrimp, orange chicken, and crispy beef. They all were terrible. The orange chicken chunks of chicken were larger than the biggest meatball I've ever seen. The Kung pow shrimp was bland flavorless and tasteless. The shrimp in the Kung Pow were good, but the chicken in the broccoli chicken was slimy and tasteless. The crispy beef, you couldn't tell it was beef and the most predominant flavor of course was the oil, sauce was without seasoning and no flavor. The blade review prompted me to try this restaurant for carry out and I would give it no star and found the blade review highly inaccurate. read more

Tried this place for lunch. The prices are very reasonable. However, sometimes you get what you pay for. The lunch specials do not allow for any substitutions - e.g., if you don't want Egg Drop, Wanton, or Hot 'n Sour Soup, you can't substitute a vegetable or chicken soup. I can understand that, but I think to charge full price vs adding a surcharge for a substitute is a bit unreasonable. Anyway, I decided to overlook the soup issue & looked forward to the main course. I ordered Chicken with Asparagus. I made the mistake of not asking whether it came with a light or dark sauce. It came in a lot of dark sauce, which wasn't my preference, but faulted myself & ate it anyway. The chicken was extremely thin & not very plentiful. Surprisingly, the dish lacked flavor even though it was swimming in sauce. I rarely add salt to my food, but reached for salt & pepper a few times to get through the meal. If I hadn't been hungry, I wouldn't have eaten it. My friend had a chicken lo mein dish & agreed about the small amount of chicken. I will say that the tea was good & best part of the meal. There seemed to be a good takeout business, so I'm not sure if we simply ordered the wrong entrees or what. However, we had wanted to try this restaurant for a while and left disappointed. read more

If there's one thing that Fortune Inn Restaurant (FIR) needs -- aside from upgrading its outdated layout -- it would be an improvement in service. It's not that the server (and, presumably, owner) wasn't attentive. Rather it was her impersonable nature that made our dining experience an unpleasant one. While FIR does offer a separate Chinese menu, we were forewarned that not all the items were available. Thankfully, the two of the three dishes that we selected from the mentioned menu were doable. The food itself was okay and by no means stellar in any way. Of the three dishes ordered (Assorted Meats and Tofu Hot Pot, Crispy Beef, and the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops), only the crispy beef proved to be the most memorable one. Considering the numerous Chinese restaurants in the city, I am quite certain that there won't be a second trip. The service left a sour enough of a taste in our mouths to stay far away from FIR. read more
