The rice was so good and the noodles doused in five spice. It was such a huge portion that my mom said we should get it to go. Furthermore, we also spent a small amount but left happy with lots of evening and breakfast leftovers. The only thing was the five spice was unfortunately a bit too salty. Really good Chinese food. While it isn't as good as the best ones in Los Angeles, this easily the most authentic one so far this week. Everything we ordered tasted good. Highly recommend to anyone who craves real Chinese food when visiting Jasper. Price is just a tad higher than I expected but I don't think any restaurant is cheap in this town. read more

I rarely give 1 star reviews - I only do so when I feel compelled to write a review so others don't have a similar disappointing experience. Fortune House unfortunately hit that mark. I'll also be honest about the positive aspects of this restaurant, as I personally don't like 1 star reviews that chastise every aspect of the establishment to the point where it feels like the rating came from anger. We had one decent dish - the Singapore noodles. Good flavor and portion size, and generous with the included protein. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was all downhill. The 1 star rating was a result of terrible service, and my disappointment with the Ginger beef dish. Service - We pointed at a dish in the menu and ordered ginger beef. The resulting dish came out looking nothing like the picture. When we inquired about it, the waitress merely smirked and asked if we ordered off the American menu or the Chinese one because apparently ginger beef is different between the two menus. We had ordered off the American one. Another smirk, "well, you can try it" and she walked away. I had never felt so insulted. We couldn't order off the Chinese menu because we couldn't read it, and it felt like she was punishing us for it (took another look at the menu picture and we definitely did not get what we ordered). She was incredibly rude, and this is the primary reason for the drop in rating. Poor service is rarely a cause for me to change my rating - I've had someone spill food on me and still gave the place 5 stars because the food and service was otherwise exceptional. But to have someone so blatantly smirk at our "mistake" just felt so wrong. Ginger beef - The waitress smirked when she set this dish down probably because this dish was absolutely inedible. Imagine taking some cardboard, breading it excessively, and cooking it. Top it with some sesame seeds for "flavor" and that's what this dish was. In the end, if you can read the Chinese menu, maybe you'll have a different experience. With an inedible dish, and terrible service, that basically takes out any reason to like a restaurant. For me, this restaurant was a massive disappointment, and I'm writing this review so my fellow Yelpers know what they may be walking into. read more

We ordered from this restaurant for delivery. First the price was $20 higher than the menu. Thought ok, we ordered spicy beef and there was only about 8 prices of beef the rest was all vegetables. Food Mapo tofu, vegetable mix chop suey, and some beef dish. Nothing was memorable. This is like any other American Chinese place. I have nothing against non-Authentic Chinese food. I like Chipotle not because of it's authenticity. American Chinese places get all their sauce vats from only a few select companies (Sysco). It's hard to stray from the formula since start up costs are relatively cheap and restaurant owners are also known to be ridiculous cheap since margins are thin. You don't actually have to be a trained chef to work in these restaurants but I digress. I guess my point is that you will not find really good American Chinese food in small towns because this is what we expect: safe. Decor Stereotypical. Glass tables on top of cloth. The only thing missing is the Chinese Zodiac calendar in front of each seat. Service The only waitress there was friendly and checked on us but forgot to refill our water. She was also super pregnant and dispersed for a while. No worries. Would I come here again? I would much rather come here then Royal Garden but I would also prefer to just microwave some hot pockets in my motel. read more

The food is quite authentic for me. The size of the serving is also large. We had onion ginger beef, pepper shrimp, 咕咾肉 and Mapo Tofu for four of us. The onion ginger beef tasted most authentic to me though onion rather than green onion was used. read more

A good place to visit for decent Chinese food. We ordered one plate from each section: soup, noodles, vegetables, fish and meat, we used the Chinese menu so not sure what the dishes' names are. The portions were good, appropriate for the price and the food had an authentic flavor. We didn't think it was overly salty or spicy. The service was okay, servers didn't check on us very often but did refill the tea once we ran out. One thing to note here is if you order the tea the price is $2.5 per person not per pot. Overall if you are looking for some decent quality Chinese food, do check this place out. read more

I had the buffet and Anastasia had a combo plate. For the most part the combo plate had the same items as the buffet. It looks like their special items may be bit better. Don't have too high of expectations and your western Chinese food cravings should be met. The ginger beef and sweet and sour pork weren't awesome, but the chicken balls and battered prawns were good. Everything was fresh, including all the salad, fruit and dessert bar items. A half-notch above Taipan and Szechuan Castle in Edmonton if that makes sense. :) read more

I came here on an overcast Tuesday with my family and with low expectations, given prior disappointments with Chinese fare in small towns. Sure, the decor doesn't really inspire much in the way of culture, but it's clean and pleasant enough. We ordered seafood fried rice, Cantonese stir-fried noodle, garlic pork ribs, and tofu hot pot. The single waitress attending to us that night was friendly and helpful, knowledgeably explaining each dish we had questions about. So, let's get to the plusses and minuses, shall we? The Oolong tea was served piping hot and was promptly refilled by the aforementioned waitress when we flagged it with the traditional open lid signal. It was so invigorating! I must congratulate the chef on the garlic pork ribs for not serving it drenched in oil and batter. Both were relatively light, which comes as a welcome relief. Also, the seafood fried rice was absolutely delicious, not for the seafood (which was of the frozen variety), but for the superb cooking techniques for the rice itself. It was just al dente enough to let me know that they correctly used day-old rice in the preparation, unlike the fresh rice many naive Chinese establishments tend toward. The tofu hot pot arrived crackling with heat and I was impressed by the fresh vegetables and perfect texture of the tofu as well as a delightfully flavorful (yet not salt-heavy) sauce. As for my constructive criticism, I'd say this restaurant caters too heavily to those who want more "flavor" (i.e. salt). The ribs, while plenty garlicky were also a bit high on the salinity. The same could be said of the Cantonese noodles, which were both dark with soy sauce and also not really authentic to the Cantonese style as it had too much sauce (it's supposed to be dry). Finally, as much as I appreciate the new-looking carpeting and upholstery, the washing machine in the kitchen could be heard vibrating the entire wall our booth was sitting next to. Average is the only way I can describe this restaurant. It wasn't spectacular (like me) and just plain and drab. I was so excited for great food, but alas my dreams have been dashed once again. I shall continue my search for the ultimate Chinese food. One day, we shall be united and I shall celebrate with piles of rice and a waterfall of soy sauce.
