    113. Pork Shoulder Hunan Style

True Hunan Style Authentic Chinese Food - Spicy and Delicious! We had a party of 8 come here ... with everyone who could only handle different levels of spiciness. We were able to order different dishes that satisfied everyone's palettes. The dishes were super tasty, the staff was friendly and fast. The place is a bit a hole in the wall but the food is very good. The prices are pretty good too. We will be coming here again!

I've been coming to fortune cookies with my family for the last 8 years. I have never once been disappointed in the food here. It is very authentic Schezuan cuisine with very fast service. Leo is the owner and a very nice man always willing to chat. My favorite dishes here are the cumin beef or lamb, the sauteed green beans, the hot and sour chicken hunan style and the ginger flounder. The food is very flavorful and I've brought several of my friends here who continue to rave about our experience. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is among the best Chinese I've had in the entire state.

Definitely doesn't look appealing from the outside and the interior is very unassuming however my gosh their food is very authentic Hunan and exceptional! The menu I will admit is a bit intimidating for one unfamiliar with such authentic Chinese cuisine and quite extensive. If I went on my own I'd be at a loss what to order but fortunate for me I was in company with a group that knew. I am very familiar with various Chinese cuisines but not authentic Hunan and found every dish we ordered exceptional. ( see Photos) The fish in chili oil was a dish I have had before but nothing as full of the complicated flavors as this dish! See my photos for a rundown of what we ordered and just know every dish was a hit.

Another amazing dish. Everything is cooked perfectly, the cuttlefish was perfect not chewy, pork tender and delicious!

The photos and reviews led me to believe this was an authentic Chinese restaurant, perhaps it is, but my dish was a complete miss. Very disappointed by the quality of my meal. I decided to try something new and ordered "Chinese herb and frog in hot pot". It's not something exotic that disappointed me. It's the fact that I didn't get what I paid for. For 25 dollars all I got was a flavorless, frog boned, bell peppers and yams plate. No frog meat just frog bones and I didn't see an herbs at all. So essentially the plate is a mix of bell peppers and plenty of yams. I could barely get through 1/4 of it. Word of advice, order something else.

    Lunch special menu

It is soooooo delicious, we've went there 2 days in a row. You may pass by that place and didn't even notice there is a restaurant. Full of people during weekend night and there are only 2 staff when we were there, but the service is good! Definitely a must-go place when we are around, want to try the lunch special but it's too far from my place.

The outside of the restaurant and the presentation might not be straight off pleasing to the eyes, but the cuisine is very authentic. We ordered serveral classic dishes. Unlike some restaurants that pass off dishes with the same spicy sauce, every dish has its own unique flavors. The scallion pancake is never a wrong choice as an appetizer. It was served hot and crispy, so was a good appetite opener. The whole fish was a decently sized fish for the value. The sauce was sweet and savory, and despite being immersed in sauce, the surface of the fish was still crispy. The Mala pot was also very authentic in its taste; would recommend if you are going for a hodgepodge of different kind of meats, tofu, and veggies. The presentation side of me do wish they can serve it in a more authentic and aesthetically pleasing container compared to the regular white bowl it came in. Would also recommend the loofah as your veggie dish if you like something light but still savory.

Hidden Gem Alert. My wife and I just tried this place for first time and must say we were very pleasantly surprised. The name of this place suggests your generic Americanized Chinese restaurant but the taste reminds us of food we had back in China - very authentic. Highly recommend the salted egg eggplant, steamed pork belly with fermented cabbage and if you can handle it, beef and pork intestine in chili oil. We'll be coming back soon!

Great food. Owner is very friendly. For someone who grows up in China, this place is definitely a hidden gem. Very authentic taste

Appearance Quick to pass it by had to turn around park on the back of a Buffalo! No just jiving! Parked in the back plenty of space. Looks like a truck stop but inside is clean and definitely smells good! Yellow table cloth polished brown chairs very comfortable. Order Hot & Spicy chicken the asian way. Waitress took order chef I guess came to confirm. So far I like this place. The fact that they come to confirm so there is no confusion. Very good. So the stars are adding up to three so far. Will see when the food comes how higher they go. Food Authentic real deal not American commercial. Although they do have it on the menu if you like bootleg food. Still have the taste in my mouth. Four stars so far next time I will complete this review @ 4 or with 5 to be continued.

Best authentic Hunan food in central Jersey. My family are a big fan of them, especially rice crust and pork stomach.

The food is consistently delicious and fresh. The staff is always friendly and happy to help you. The portions are also so large, if I order a large for dinner I easily have lunch and maybe a little snack leftover for the next day. I should also add that the price is very fair for the amount of food that they give you. No matter the day, the wait is never more than 20 minutes when we call ahead and it's clearly just a smooth operation inside. We have moved back to the area and will be visiting China Wok more frequently now. I am very happy about that.

Glad I made a reservation via Google Assistant b/c it was a full house plus tons of people waiting (1hr) for their takeout orders. Great sign! We ordered quite a bit for 3 of us b/c we're excited to try them out. We loved them all especially the wontons in the authentic sauce as it should be (not in sesame or peanut sticky sauce), the salt/pepper chicken as how I remembered from back home, the delicious noodle soup with tender beef and tendon, and the flavorful black bean fish. The restaurant is nice and clean. They're busy but the kitchen was pretty quick. The waitress brought out the dish as it's done, not waiting to serve all dishes at once. We actually preferred this way. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. We really enjoy our dinner. It's less than 30 min for us; we will definitely return to try some Sichuan dishes.

Tofu and Fish hotpot: Fried white fish, fried tofu, string beans, bell peppers in a sauce that is probably reduced chicken stock. I'm biased since it's one of my favorite chinese dishes. I don't know when this specific dish is amazing, but I can tell you when it's bad. Green Lake's version is anything but bad. Shrimp Stuffed Tofu: We were given a sample since they were trying something new. The sauce is similar to the tofu hotpot but has a porkier feel because of the ground pork within the dish. The tofu is the same, but the way they fried it is different, so it took a step up. The shrimp was fine, and I think they should have this on their menu. Whole Fried Chicken: It's fine. Didn't love it. There's no batter to speak of at all, and you're reliant on the spicy sauce and ginger sauce provided. Stir Fried French Beans w/ Salted Fish: Crunchy French Beans, and very salty salted fish. Not my favorite, but it keeps things different. Hot prawn salad with broccoli: The broccoli was just boiled. Nothing to talk about. The pawn was fried and bathed in mayonnaise. What's not to like? Pork Chop: This is another Chinese restaurant staple. 85% of the chinese porkchops that you eat will taste the same. This one is no different. Hokkien Fried Rice: My chinese restaurant guilty pleasure. How else can you get a shrimp fried rice bathed in an umami sauce? The restaurant did a really good job with this and I'm glad that I asked if they had it (in chinese). Service: It was a slow night, so we had all the attention that our table needed. Ambiance: The location is big and can support small families to larger gatherings. They have a private area that fits 30+ people, so they look like the go-to spot for parties.

Be sure to ask about the ingredients if you don't want pork or meat in a dish. We've been here before and all other dishes were great...Chinese broccoli sautéed, dumplings with shrimp, eggplant with shrimp, sautéed wide noodles with some veggies, soup dumplings, etc. finally tried the mango dessert.
