I was in the area with a friend so I stopped in and got takeout. My friend comes here often and he loves the food. The place itself isn't anything great to look at, it could definitely use some updating, but they have a really nice menu to choose from with an array of dishes. While inside I saw a blackboard with specials. I chose the "lobster" lo mein combination. To my surprise the food was delicious. Magic Wok doesn't skimp on their portions. My lo mein had tons of flavor, and lots of vegetables with just the right amount of seasoning. My friend ordered the pork lo mein and that was equally delicious. My combination also came with an egg roll. I'm usually not a big fan of egg rolls because they tend to have a lack luster taste and very little filling, but to my surprise Magic Wok's was pretty good. It was nice and crispy on the outside and it had a good ratio of filling.I also dipped my egg roll in duck sauce which I combined with their house mustard. Not the mustard in the packets but the one the owner John keeps separate. You have to ask for it. It has a little spice, but adds great flavor. Since the pandemic,You do have to wear a mask when picking up your food. I would order from here again. read more

So I've ordered from here before - in fact they've been my go-to for chinese delivery for the last couple of years - but it seems like they've changed something. The dishes I ordered? General tsos combination plate (so general tsos, fried rice, and an eggroll). General tsos - entirely dark meat, where usually it's at least a mix of dark and white meat. INCREDIBLY greasy - like, gross to chew. Sauce had a nice flavor but couldn't hide the horrible texture of the chicken. Eggroll, likewise, so so SO greasy that I couldn't really chew it. Like my bite squelched. Wound up throwing the whole thing away. Dunno if they got a new owner, or just decided to cut costs or what, but I will most certainly not be ordering again. read more

Particularly underwhelming, dumplings are tiny and slimy, falling apart upon picking them up (likely frozen, pre-made) . They were also served without dumpling sauce, something pretty common for every Chinese restaurant. Chicken and broccoli was lacking in flavor, drenched in liquid. Chicken doesn't really taste like chicken, closer to nothing. Egg-roll was the only saving grace of the meal. Won't be back, still can't find a good Chinese place in Hillsborough. read more

I have not ordered Chinese food since I moved to Hillsborough a year ago. I decided to order from this place on a Sunday late in the day. I ordered General Tsos chicken, 2 orders of Broccoli and shrimp, fried rice , spear ribs, Lo mein two egg rolls and 1 coca cola bottle. Total 80.00. The Ribs were overcooked dry as sand horrible taste like two-week old food. The rice had little taste and the Broccoli was not crisp but saggy horrible. The house Lo mein was the worst stuff the contents like the pork and chicken in it was old and tasteless all you could taste in all the dishes is tons of salt. The egg roll was the only item that tasted fresh. This food was worse by far than any $2.00 Buffet, they should be ashamed of themselves putting out this poor quality old bland food. I have been a customer of magic wok in Hillsborough, New Jersey for the last eight years. After encountering an elderly gentleman that delivered the food to our house from magic walk on Friday night, January 21, 2024. I will no longer be ordering from this restaurant. The food is pretty good, but, the elderly man who delivered off food there was a miscommunication with payment. We told him we would make a phone call and pay via credit card. He said well now you're holding me up from my other deliveries, I apologize we had dinner and I planned on calling and my bill starts ringing. The man said I've been trying to call you. You haven't paid your bill. I said we are on the phone with them right now. He said I do not believe you, I am calling the police . I couldn't believe the way we were being customers for eight years. He then pretended to call the police we squared everything away with magic walk and they apologized for his rudeness. I had a $20 bill in my hand that I was going to hand him as a tip and apologize for our $85 offer order , after that, I just put the money in my pocket and said you need to leave. He said not until the police come then when he hung up, his phone rang again and I gather it was the people from magic wok proceeded to get in his car and drive away , I could not believe the rudeness of this elderly man my husband is 75 and I am 73 and to be treated like that by your delivery person really truly upset us. We will no longer use this restaurant. read more

I have ordered from this place ever since I was a kid. The food has always been amazing and consistent, and tonight was no different. I placed an order for pick-up tonight on Christmas Eve, probably one of their busiest nights of the year, and it was ready in 20 minutes. Everything I ordered was made correctly and the food was delicious. When we drove up to the restaurant, we noticed the inside seemed unusually busy. As I has called ahead, we walked inside to get our order only to hear this terrible family screaming at the man behind the counter. They complained that their order was 2 hours late and some items were missing, demanding a refund and threatening to "blow up Yelp with terrible reviews." I saw the ticket for their order, they ordered a ridiculous amount of food at one of the busiest dinner rushes, and completely failed to have any understanding or compassion for these workers. I am upset that the Magic Wok staff had to endure this treatment, especially on a holiday. If this family is reading this review, please do better. Always remember to treat food service workers with respect and kindness. If I could give Magic Wok 6 Stars I would. This is one of my favorite places and I will absolutely be returning again. I really hate leaving negative reviews, but my food experience last night at Magic Wok was beyond disappointing. I'm giving two stars for the wonton soup alone because that was very good. But then I also ordered shrimp lomain and not once, but TWICE I bit into shrimp that still had the shell on the tail- and I wasn't even halfway through eating it! I was so grossed out that I couldn't keep eating it. I also ordered pork steam dumplings that honestly just tasted weird and the soy sauce was probably the most disappointing sauce I've ever had. Just by looking at it I could tell it wasn't going to be good. It was very clear looking and had such a mild and boring flavor. I am very disappointed that I ended up throwing away 2/3rds of the food I bought and basically had a small pint of wonton soup for dinner. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

I've been going here now for almost a year. It has become my chinese takeout go-to. The Eggrolls as many have mentioned are top-notch. so is their soup. Their Wonton soup is made with REAL chicken broth and the wontons actually have flavor! If you want to try something amazing: Egg Foo young. The American guy they have working here has the worst attitude of any restaurant personnel I have ever encountered. He acts like he's doing you a favor by taking your order. Last time I tried to phone in a take-out order, he asked for our phone number, then said "OK, I will call you back" (which he never did). Obviously, I didn't wait, I just called one of the 3 other (& better), Chinese restaurants in town. I will never call/go there again. The food here is adequate at best, prices are the same as everywhere else. The decor is dismal and how they pass a health code inspection is beyond me. read more

Mixed thoughts on this place. The food is vey good. But, it's hard to want to eat their food as it's nasty inside. I was there today to get lunch. There were two containers of raw meat sitting on a counter in the kitchen ( not the counter where customers are waiting). How long has that been there... Who knows. But, as my lunch was being cooked, one of their kitchen guys was cleaning the tables and windows and then tossed the filthy rag on the counter right next to the raw meat. Then, the woman who owns the place picked up that same gross rag to wipe out a large bin which she then put the chicken wings she just cooked in, then tossed the rag back on the counter. Then she put a big tray of just fried fish on the counter and moved the rag over which now was partialy on the just cooked chicken wings. I don't know how they pass inspection. The owner, John, is a big gossip and talks inappropriately about customers when he hangs up the phone or when a customer leaves. read more

Horrible! Figure I'd give this place a try. My husband always orders from jumbo palace but he's not home so I thought I'd go somewhere else. I ordered online and it said it would be 45 minutes. That's pretty long for a Chinese food place but I could deal with it. Over an hour later I called. The man asked for my address 3 times then said it would be a few more minutes. What's a few more I asked him. 30-45 more, he said. Are you kidding me?!?! He clearly lost the first order or if he didn't, my order would take 1 1/2-2 hours to deliver?!?! Seriously??!!?! This is my favorite Chinese restaurant...ever! I've come here for many years and will continue for years to come. All other Chinese restaurants are compared to Magic Wok and Magic Wok is always judged superior. The quality and deliciousness of the food is unreal. The hot and sour soup is flavorful and full of vegetables. The scallion pancakes are so good. THE EGG ROLLS are the BEST! I would never walk out of Magic Wok without their egg rolls. The shrimp fried rice is sometimes light on the shrimp but wow is it good. The general tso chicken is literally so tasty and spicy! I love it. One of the best gems I've been to! read more

Great food, large portions and priced right. Their house Lo Mein is the best, huge pieces of beef, chicken, pork and shrimp. They actually have the real egg rolls not the tiny ones you find at the other local places. They deliver that's also a plus. I have yet to find a item that I didn't like there. read more

This place would get 2 more stars if it wasn't because of the phone manners they have when you call. It is one specific man, who I assume may be the owner. It just turns me off to call and have someone be so short. I really feel that this person should not be handling the phone. I am sure they have lost customers due to that. If I could give a negative star I would but too bad that's not an option. Don't even know where to start with this place! I ordered take out from here the other day and I must say this place is absolutely gross and filthy. When I walked in there must have been a family party or something going on because no one greeted me or even acknowledged I was there so it took literally like 10 minutes for them to take my order which was extremely rude!! On top of that everyone including the kitchen staff wasn't even working but they were all eating right in front of me inside the kitchen where they cook the food! How do they get away with this crap?? If I was a Health Inspector I would have shut them down immediately! Also they were not following proper food handling procedures when handling raw foods as I quickly observed while waiting for my order. The staff was really rude and they need to work on their customer service/greeting and proper food handling process. Ok so now on to the food...I ordered the Orange Chicken Lunch Special and it was definitely "special" in that it was specially disgusting! The chicken tasted like it was a month old, super super dry inside and tasteless. I am amazed at how they can pass this off as edible food. Their crab rangoon was also the worst I have ever tasted! They didn't even include any sauce that usually comes on the side with this dish as all other places do!! The rice (white) tasted old and crusty that some parts were even really hard and crunchy! The egg roll was even terrible, tasteless, and old tasting and that's how I know that this place is horrible! I ended up tossing 90% of the food because my stomach couldn't stand to eat more of this nasty crap! Also what kind of place doesn't even include/provide any sauce (soy sauce, duck sauce, hot sauce, etc)??? If they continue to operate like this they should just do everyone a favor and close up shop! Will never ever go back to this sh*thole again even if they are the last place open on earth! The service could use some work. They're a bit rude over the phone and even in person. Seems like you're always bothersome to them. BUT, the food makes up for it completely. They by far have THE BEST Chinese in town hands down. I have had nearly everything on the menu at one point or another and it's all wonderful. Very good food, but I'm sure as most people do, we only order delivery. Delivery has been very slow lately. Last time it took an hour and a half. And to top that, after an hour we called an we were told the order was already out. 20 minutes after that we called and they thought it had been delivered.
