2/5/2019 Out of desperation since every other Chinese place I usually order from for the office was closed today, I ordered party trays from Fortune Cookie. Parking is limited, spaces are tiny and people park like crap, so I ended up double parking since there were zero spaces for me to park. I picked up the following party trays: Combo Chow Mein Sweet and Sour Pork Broccoli Beef White Rice It cost me $150, and was enough to feed my office of 20 hungry adults with leftovers for tomorrow. Pretty good for fast, cheap, Chinese food. Tip: Try to avoid the school lunch hour. It gets pretty crazy in the area and they are quite popular with the high school kids. I think they get a single item rice plate for $5. read more

Was craving noodles and tofu so I looked up a local Chinese restaurant. Fortune Cookie was nearby so I figured I'd get some take out. They had a pretty good selection of vegetable dishes and rice plates. My brother got the orange chicken rice plate, and my sister and I got chow fun with veggies and Mongolian tofu. Ordering over the phone was a breeze and food was ready in 20 minutes. Picking up was pretty quick as well, I was in and out there in less than 5 minutes, which is like record time for me at most Asian spots. When we got home we were surprised to see how much food we got. Let me tell y'all, they did not skimp out on the portions at all! We had enough food to share amongst the 3 of us for two days. All for less than $30? What. A. Deal! I liked that their food was super oily, other restaurants of been too have wayyyy too much oil. I also appreciated there was tons of vegetables in the Chow Fun. I've experienced other places where I had maybe 3 pieces of broccoli, a carrot and ton of onions as a filler. My brother really enjoyed his chicken and rice, said the rice could have used a little more seasoning but idk we all have our preferences! Fortune Cookie is now on my go-to list for when I want real food, real fast. Giving it 4 stars for now based on the food and my takeout experience. Wow! What a turnaround. I don't know what has happened, but I've been there four times in the past month and have been very pleased. They are no longer rude. The portions are now of a decent size and the food tastes as I would have expected. We'll see if they can maintain this renewed level of quality and attitude. I have my fingers crossed! read more

Today I came into Fortune cookie to place an order to go. first of all , the customer service was absolutely terrible. the man working was very unwelcoming. not to mention my food was hot and cold. some pieces of chicken hot some cold like it was in the refrigerator. I have avoided this place for years... Why you ask? A fast food chinese place across the street from a high school (WHS) and it's cartoonish paint job. I just assumed it would be junk food. One night we popped in for takeout, Very very tiny place that shares it's space with a tea shop. They cook to order, So that was good. Went home and I was surprised the food was pretty good. Got a flier on my doorstep. I have always notice that this place was coming to town but it seems like it took forever for it to finally open. Got the meal for 2, wonton soup, sesame chicken & shrimp chow mein. It was delivered so fast. The food was really good and tasted so very fresh & the sesame chicken was so crispy. The chow mein was real good but the wonton soup was sorta bland. The need to add more seasoning to it. I make a killer wonton soup at home, its not hard to do. lol Id order from them again. This place is so affordable and you'd definitely get your money's worth. I got their all day lunch special with Mongolian beef. It was really good and the food came out really quick. Here's why they're getting such high marks: Door dash delivered the wrong meal to us. I called the dasher who placed the blame on Fortune Cookie and said he could do nothing about it. I decided to call Fortune Cookie directly. They immediately apologized and remade our meal at no charge. We had to pickup but that's ok. It was excellent. Solid place for American-style Chinese food and shares a spot with Royaltea. Their rice plate combos are filling and worth the price. I really enjoyed their fried rice option on the plate and thought it was definitely one of the better cheaper fried rice options in Fremont. Sesame chicken was pretty good. The rest of the al carte menu was about average. I didn't think their salt and pepper fish or spareribs were anything special. Their green beans were about average. Ive only ate here a few times. I usually just get the same dish, haha. The first time i ordered from here, i got the beef with chow mein. This was okaaaay. I personally thought it was salty. Well my friend got the mongolian beef woth chow mein, which looked more tasty so i got that the next time i came. She told me to tell them to make it less salty. Mongolian beef, less salty + added green onions: 5/5 ! Much better and flavorful. I add in some chilli too bc i like spice. Their service is fast (i call ahead) and theyre very nice people! This place kinda sucks. I had tried it before and after Covid came to town so that's not the reason the fall short. They fall short because their food is weak. Their fried rice was barren of many ingredients commonly found in fried rice dishes. Their chow mein was equally disappointing. Maybe it's just my luck the few times I tried them but the staff seemed like they would have rather been at the dentist than there. The establishment itself is pretty confusing. These aforementioned restaurants set the stage for how Chinese food is suppose to taste SUPER FRESH!!! Fortune Cookie has the best egg foo young I've ever tasted bare none, the gravy that it's served with is nothing short of sensational!! It has just enough garlic whereby is not overwhelming. The sweet and sour prawns Ooh Wee the absolute best money can buy; however, the only drawback they don't put pineapples in this dish but they do put my favorite bell peppers in it. The prawn fried rice is absolute old school just incredible. We also had the broccoli chicken which was also super succulent, big hunks broccoli and carrot slices really topped the dish off. My entire meal came out to $58.96 US I only brought a $50 bill US. I attempted to pay the remaining balance on my debit card, the owner said no I will take care of the balance. Something about this place doesn't sit right with me. I came in here a while ago for take out. I put my order in by phone. I had the menu up online while placing my order. I ordered a lunch sweet and sour pork, a lunch lemon chicken, and a vegetable chow mein. I knew the lunch price was around $7 per their online menu, and the chow mein was $8. They told me it would be about 10 minutes, so I left right away. I got there and I saw my order already prepared on the table. I wanted to pay with card, but they told me they don't take card? Nothing online said they didn't take card. Anyways, I got there and the lady that was helping me told me $30. It was $30 even, no change...? Luckily, I had cash in my wallet so I paid with cash. She didn't give me a receipt, but I had to ask for one because it was going to be a business expense. She wrote up some quick wording in an order ticket, and just put "$30" at the bottom and circled it... After I gave this lady cash, she PUT IT IN HER POCKET. Like really? Whatever. The food wasn't special. The sweet and sour pork was over breaded. The rice was way too greasy. And the chow mein was swimming in oil where we couldn't use the same plate anymore. WTF, Yelp? Over the weekend, we logged on to Yelp specifically to order delivery from Fortune Cookie but the right column where the ordering would happen is blocked by ads. I logged on now to see if it was still blocked and it is. Fortune cookie's page on Yelp specifically says Yes on Delivery - but Yelp is making it impossible to place an order here. Is Yelp going to quit processing delivery orders (and give up what is, no doubt, a source of revenue)?? I've been on Yelp for a loooong time (Yelp Elite 2007) and I'm disgusted to see that Yelp is becoming more and more useless every day. SMDH! read more

Annoyed with recent experiences with Panda on Walnut, we gave Fortune Cookie a repeat visit for carryout on a Saturday evening. The online order placement was easy, but no food descriptions are provided. The food was ready on arrival, but I had to be assertive about getting it, as I was ignored in favor of newly ordering customers. The bag was cheerfully handed over, though. A dinky, grungy spot. We ordered hot and sour soup, vegetable chow menu, lemon chicken.General Tsao's chicken, egg rolls and steamed rice. The soup was excellent! The noodles were well-flavored but the vegetables soft to the point of mushy. The lemon chicken was better than previously in that it wasn't swimming in sauce, but no actual lemons seen. The general's chicken is listed as hot and spicy. It was very bland. All 3 items tasted of old oil and there were gastric responses later.....Portions were generous. read more

Ordered take out but this is a serious health and safety problem needs to be dealt with. Bait and switching on ingredients is a very serious problem. This restaurant needs to know you can't do that. Especially when people have food allergies. First off I ordered honey walnut with prawns. But the nuts were cashews. I ordered broccoli with bean curd. It wasn't bean curd it was soft tofu. Bean curd is tofu but it aged with a very firm texture and is brown on the outside and a cream color on the inside. If a restaurant doesn't have a certain ingredient then pull some stuff off the menu instead of profiting off of people's lives being in danger. Shame on you guys this is not cool. No fortune for you. My daughter who is only 13 had the worst experience here. She ordered or at least tried to order shrimp fried rice and the lady lied and said they don't have it. My daughter's friend ordered the same dish like 30 mins back. On top of it, the lady was rude and super mean. My daughter said she could barely hear her and so she misheard and asked again for the shrimp fried rice and the lady just slammed the card on the counter back to her and gestured for her to go. Including that, she was also racist. We know this because she treated the next white person with a 180 attitude change and was very welcoming and polite. Also not to mention the food is horrible, the garlic chicken we ordered was indeed NOT garlic chicken. It looked disgusting too, the chicken and vegetable ratio was horrible and it was like they just put a bunch of sweet sauce all over it. I'd give Fortune Cookie 2.5 stars. I was craving Chinese food, which I had not had in a long time, and decided to give this place a try as I drive by it to/from work. Tonight's dinner is our first and final for this place. I've never tasted any Chinese food so SALTY until tonight. We ordered the 'Salt and Pepper Pork', 'Black Pepper Beef', and 'Chicken Rice Noodle', and OMG they all looked BROWN. Was the chef soy sauce-happy or what? And how long has it been since they changed that oil for frying all of their stuffs? I've attached some photos for your reference. This review is for their delivery service. Ordered asparagus chicken, beef chow fun and a couple other dishes. I got string bean chicken instead asparagus chicken!! My husband hates string beans with passion so this was very upsetting. The amount of chicken was laughable as it was mostly string beans... The chow fun was bland with little taste. Lastly, the delivery guy was totally unfriendly when handing off the food. As if he was pissed for having to work. I will start at the outset and admit that the standard chinese fare that used to be one of my favorites before, is now a once a year experience I try just to remind myself of why I don't eat it. This weekend in March was my day to do that checkmark. We ordered delivery. The person taking down the order spoke good english, a plus. The food arrived in less than the promised 30 min another plus. I am vegetarian and so my choices were limited - we got the fried rice..which I didn't try because it had egg and I forgot to tell them to hold it. We also got the veggie chowmein, mixed veggies and the pan fried beans. It was the standard chinese fare - nothing that would make me want to go back.
