Upon walking in, I have to first state that since my last experience at this place (when I found a HUGE pile of hair in with the dumplings and swore I would never go back) it seemed it had improved, drastically. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was much better, and I was impressed. The food at the buffet, just from looking at it, "seemed" pretty fresh and eye-catching. The reason I went back is because my husband goes here quite often with his work crew and he loves it. Honestly, I was trying to please him, so we went. I started with the fried dumplings, dim sum, and crab Rangoon. Obviously, it's a cheap buffet, so don't expect any fresh fish items here. Everything is imitation or from a can. I doubt there was even any crab in the Rangoon, but it was crunchy and okay. The dumplings were cold on the outside and room temperature on the inside. The dim sum was hard on the outside (it's supposed to be a steamed dumpling with meat), and barely warm in the middle. I went back and grabbed some "fresh" shrimp and sushi. You could easily get better tasting sushi at a grocery store, not that I was expecting much-but it was not that great at all. The shrimp, when I tried to peel it, was VERY slimy, so I opted not to eat it, as that usually means its bad. The third plate I tried had General Tsos, Honey Chicken, Vegetable Lo Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken and a spring roll. I have to say all of these items tasted fine, other than the Spring Roll, which was literally cold inside. I especially enjoyed the honey chicken, which was very crunchy and bite-sized. Lastly, I had the coffee flavored cake bite, jello, pudding and some kiwi. The kiwi was the most fresh thing I had during the entire lunch. The jello was literally so tough I almost spit it out. The pudding and the coffee flavored cake were both very good. I do want to say that the service here was excellent. They seem to have a great system in place that works. Our server checked on us very often and we were never without a full drink. However, other than the cheap price of their buffet, and the sake of my husband, I would probably never go back to this place. The food is just not good at all. I have also seen many say this place has great sushi. Please know these people cannot have ever tried real sushi before. It is ALL imitation fish or stuffed with cream cheese and cucumber. If you want to try real sushi, go to Xina at the end of 37 and you will never come to this sad establishment for sushi again. Just awful. read more

Only came here for 1 thing. Snow crab. They restock them and they are gone in 3 seconds, can't get near them people take the whole thing . Other then that if you want chinese buffet in Brick there is the Flaming grill which is similar but much bigger and much fresher, much more of a selection of everything including sushi and they have great crab there its not snow crab though. So this place is ok but i would not travel more then 10 minutes to get to it again as i did. The food i ate was limited to the broiled fish because i couldn't get near the crab so its a waste of a trip. Stood there for 15 minutes waiting for them to come out and then 1 lady wiped it all out. read more

I love fortune buffet! For the price, you can't have high expectations; however I feel like this is place beats the Chinese food for most take out and delivery restaurants. The lunch prices are ridiculously cheap, so of course there is going to be a wait and crowd-- but I have never waited for longer then 10-15 max. I notice someone mentioned in a previous comment that the California rolls use imitation crab, but how is a business suppose to use real crab and charge such a low per person rate? Most sushi places use imitation crab, it's not that big of a deal, at least they have sushi as an option! The wait staff is always nice and quick. They might not be the friendliest, but they're not selling you on their menu, they're bussing your table and bringing beverages. Buffets are meant to eat in excess with lots of variety, check and check! :) read more

ok it's just a Chinese buffet I get it but old people pee all over this place? for months bathrooms do not get fully cleaned and the vinyl seating is torn in the dining areas, thus soaking up the old people pee. no lie... i love the great food here, which I gave a 4 star for, but going to wash your hands before or after eating here is a disgusting experience. it's literally all over the place in there and stinks worse than an animal barn. the health department needs to come and take an inspection here soon. read more

Food was delicious and staff was friendly. I was impressed with how many choices, and the variety of food they had. Unlike normal Asian buffets, they have sushi and a Mongolian Grill which is nice and gives you the chance to try things you might not try otherwise. read more

This is one of the worst places I have ever been too. The staff was bad and when I told them 2 people in my party didnt eat cause the food was bad. They explained that whenever you walked in the door they automatically charge you. Definitely not a good place. Never again. HORRIBLE charged me $71 for disgusting food. Didnt want to listen to why they didnt eat very rude and just a heads up they charge you for walking in the door as per the blonde at the register. The sushi was dry, the shrimp had no flavor, the stone crab was not cleaned well. VERY DISGUSTED!!! I love buffets but I definitely will be blogging about this place. DONT EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Dont walk in they charge the minute you walk in. SO MUCH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! read more

Well, for the everyday 'Chinese food' this buffet is not just the local grease stop. It is always FULL of many different foods from seafood, to traditional Cantonese food, to pizza and sushi. It is always well stocked, hot, and fresh. BBQ chicken and the bacon wrapped scallops are my favorite 'fast food' Chinese food. The inside is traditionally designed as you would find in most Cantonese places of business, but it is very open, comfortable and well proportioned. Plenty of seats, and tables. No alcohol, but the drink prices are included in the buffet which is quite reasonable! Service is very fast and friendly, and surprisingly not too much of a language barrier. No fine dining, but it is a great place to bring the kids, and have have a family dinner or maybe a pre-movie Tuesday night snack. read more

I have been going to fortune buffet for about 3yrs now. Always great until this evening. The food was cool ,not cold but not hot the way it should be served. When I told them about it the manager said it was fine. As of now I will never go back.Never,I'm so pissed read more

This might be the best Chinese buffet in Toms River but unfortunately that doesn't say much. Anyone who says otherwise has lost their mind. There are many options but the food is often cold - and it looks it. I love crab legs so the idea of all you can eat is always good but good luck getting full. They are small and not full - probably the cheapest legs they can buy in bulk. Even worse, it's a fight to get them to restock them. People stand around and wait for them like vultures and then load up their plates with small skinny legs and then there's nothing left. We've seen the legs sitting there waiting in the back so I assume they put themselves on a timer to only bring small quantities out at a time so that people can't eat more than the price of their meals. Their service is beyond terrible. Not a single waiter or waitress has had more than a blank stare on their faces. They pretend to not understand you so that they don't have to be kind in any way. You constantly feel like a bother when you ask for a water refill. You have no choice but to just sit there and let your empty plates stack up until they decide to take them. The two stars come from the Mongolian grill. Being able to make your own masterpiece just the way you like it! read more

Once you get in, now you're moving, but we waited for a long time (over 20 minutes). Some of the stuff is laying out a bit long under the lights, I opted for fresh fruit, soups, and some of the more well-known chinese fare. Service was quite attentive. I have to laugh at the cheesy "Happy Birthday" song they play overhead..it's worth a listen and then hold your ears. Try the Mongolian Buffet in the back, where they cook it for you. I wish I had seen that first, would've skipped most everything else (but the soup, hot n sour was the best!). Noise level is a bit raucous. read more

Went there with the family Monday night. Three out of the four of us like sushi, but I have a 9 year old that is picky, so the buffet is great for us. We were really disappointed by the lack of sushi out for us. No shrimp, no tuna, no salmon. I noticed a guy come up later and specifically ask for some tuna. The sushi guy pulls out this container full of it. Why wasn't it out on the trays? After we had eaten some sushi and I went up for some ice cream, I noticed there was maybe 20 sushi rolls out on a two plates. Really....this was at 7pm. My son got some fruit and the watermelon was not good. It was old. The rest of the food was okay.. The service was good. I doubt I'd go back for sushi. There's a better selection at Shop Rite for cripes sake. read more

Me and my boyfriend went here to eat for a date. I was disappointed in the quality of the food. The sushi was horrible, it tasted like they grabbed any raw fish they could find and wrapped it poorly and carelessly in nori. There were 2 sushi chefs talking to each other and only 1-2 PIECES of sushi on the counter, no variety at all. Aside from the sushi the Mongolian BBQ was terrible. I gave the guy shrimp and the foe crab meat...he gave it back to me and shrimp was still raw inside. I put it right up to be taken away. Now the food out on the counters itself were disgusting. I do expect the food to not be as good as a real restaurant, but I didnt expect it to be as bad as it was. Most of the food had food from the tray next to it all over it, or even sometimes another counter! I was shocked to find a brown spec stuck to one of my shrimps, it honestly looks like they recycle food that they take from tables that don't finish. Almost every plate I grabbed from the counter had a piece of food stuck to it. I was looking forward to crab legs the most, I was upset to find little to no crab legs, and the entire time we were there, they didn't refill it. Most of the customers were walking around aimlessly looking for something good. Even now the food sits like a rock in my stomach. TL;DR: Employees who don't care, Food quality that looks like its recycled, won't be going back for a couple lifetimes. read more

Overall a very pleasant experience. The food was fresh and always plentiful being constantly added, the restaurant was quite clean (especially for a buffet), the staff was very attentive and even asked how many senior citizens were in our party (I have never been asked). The price was reasonable for very good quality. One of (if not the) best Chinese buffets I have enjoyed. read more

Mask required when entering and moving around the buffet but can be removed for eating while sitting down. Went Jan 2 for dinner food was fresh staff with masks and gloves serving at stations, good size portions and can go back as many times as you want. Another masked and gloved waitress brings drinks and clears tables. Enjoyed the experience-and we were super satisfied when we left. read more

Cold hot &sour soup, cold dumplings, luke warm fried rice, cold sweet an sour breaded chic pieces, freezer cold crab legs, shop rite quality sushi, server never took our used plates off the table as we piled them up,never came back asked if you wanted a refill on drinks had to flag one down for a glass of water and she looked annoyed when I did. Went there with friends for lunch. Food was all good and fresh. Waitress and Greeter were all very pleasant. Prices were reasonable and well affordable. The place was totally full, nice place to go. All of us took home a nice container of favorite foodies for evening snack, etc. Price for extra takeout was weighed and very very affordable. All in all it was a nice visit....So much good food and I would definitely recommend it to all my friends. read more

The experience here is quite pleasant and comfortable with a large variety of very good traditional Chinese and western influenced Asian cuisine selections although some presentations are not particularly outstanding and the vegetable fried rice is somewhat disappointing. Overall this ultra modern setting in a nice area with reasonable buffet prices and senior discount provides for an enjoyable visit. read more

Fortune Buffet - Buffets Near Me - Toms River, New Jersey

I give it three stars on account of its wide variety and service. The waitress's will accommodate you for any size group, disability, or preference. That being said on the amount of elderly, kids, and families you will find here. The place is busy, super busy. It's cafeteria style and very noisy. The prices were fantastic, the food was good, won't say it was great or wonderful, but it was good. The best part is the sushi and Mongolian grill in the back. Be sure to take advantage of it. Overall, it was a good experience and I will stop in again sometime for lunch. read more

It's a typical chinese buffet. The place seems to be cleaner than it previously was before covid. The staff now serves the food instead of it being a self serve, and they have always been nice and friendly. The food is typical for chinese food with the exception of getting a lot of food for the money. I go about once per week for lunch and will continue to do so. read more

Very disappointed. The hottest thing at my table was the hot tea we ordered. Everything - and I mean everything was cold; it's like something was wrong with the warming tables. This place needs an owner or manager who cares to supervise this place. There was a tray of some kind of pork dish lying in a pan that was so unappetizing looking I wouldn't dare to try it. Calamari was like rubber, both varieties. We won't be back. read more

As far as Chinese buffets go, this is as good as it gets. I am not one to really love buffet style food, but this is the one I go for. I really like the ice cream too. Also has sushi. Plenty of seating and hardly ever a long wait. read more

This restaurant is great if you understand how to eat at a buffet. 1. Best time to go is 12:00 PM when it opens because all the food is put out at 1100AM. 2. If you don't see what you want at the Sushi Bar ask the guy there. Tell him the type of sushi you like. He will get you what ever you want if you put green is his tip jar. $1 or 2. 00. 3. If you want to go for dinner get there around 3 or 4 if you can and tell them you're there for dinner. At this time the resturant is slow. That's when they put out the dinner choices and they were just made. If you see something is empty or low ask them to refill it. If there is something wrong with ANYTHING. Tell the person at the front desk they seem to want you to have a pleasant experience at their establishment. read more

If you like variety, this is the place to go. With a mountain of snow crab legs to start my dinner, how can you ask for anything more. From sushi to salmon, steak tips to ambrosia, there is something for everyone here. And save room for ice cream! The fruit and dessert bar are a great way to top off your meal. read more

Very disappointed they are no longer offering crab legs, they said it was too expensive. Then they should lower the price of the buffet.

I have been coming to this place for over 10 years. The food is good but service has gone down the tubes. The last time I ate here with my daughter, we practically had to beg them to refill our sodas. Even after I confronted the waitress about refills, I waited at least another 10 minutes. With service like that tipping is a definite no no. read more

A traditional buffet place with lots of varieties from vegetables, meat, sushi, Mongolian BBQ. First time here cause I was very hungry. Due to my Javita coffee, just 2 small helpers, I was full even they are delicious & attractive. Many senior people at the time I was there. Almost all though I didn't get a discount. Around $12.00 for lunch or dinner. read more

The food lays out too long without being replaced or replenished. The food is stale. The sushi is not fresh. The only redeeming factor is the Mongolian Grill. Will not be coming back read more

Not the normal crowded wait in line like it was before the pandemic. Food is still good. They are following COVID protocol with social distancing and sanitizing. The food service has been modified where you still get what you want but they dish it out for you. read more

About 3 months ago I went to the lunch buffet and over all I felt it was the typical Chinese buffet with a reasonable variety and with most items looking and tasting good. I left with a positive feeling toward the restaurant. I was close by again today and decided to once again partake. The selection of primary dishes had changed, many were hardly warm, items that should have been crisp were soggy and the food was blah. The price had gone up on top of that. Sure, there are numerous soups, plenty of sushi, and desserts/salad stuff, but the primary dishes are the big disappointment. I had originally thought about waiting for the dinner hour to enjoy snow crab, but because of cost and availability it is no longer served. So with that being the case, what do they serve for dinner that warrants a big jump in menu price considering most of the items for lunch will still be there? I've decided that I won't try to find out. read more

Lunch for $7.19 is okay. Allot of choices--food is okay. Hibachi is okay. Lunch "sushi" is California rolls with the "fake" crab legs. Atmosphere is an "F"-------too many people slopping everything up,piling food on their plates.complaining about the choices, grabbing the serving spoons--you name it--they're doing it. Rushed waitstaff trying to get tables cleaned so the "herds" can get their booths and tables and stuff their faces. Our booth was back by server's station-we got food dropped on us twice. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! Disgusting! Avoid this place - quantity over quality! You get what you pay for!

This just was NOT good at all. Lunch price is cheap, but food quality is just poor. Didn't have high hopes for a buffet in the middle of senior citizen land. But it reeks like a nursing home, like urine. The food was barely warm and you bite into meat that's dry & cold. Food is not fresh, they just toss it around every so often. I watched a staff use her hands to pick up & toss food back into the tray that fell onto the counter. Nuff said. read more
