Giving a generous 2 stars because the food was warm and my kids liked the ice cream. This place is no different from any other Chinese buffet I've visited. I tired one piece of a few things and was disappointed. Nothing was actually good but edible, I guess. My daughters got the crab legs & yes, they are small but not good. They both had a piece and spit it out. We were a party of 4 and the bill was $60. To be honest we paid a lot of money for the food we actually consumed. More than half my plate ended up spit out into a napkin. Save your money and get fast food instead. You'd be happy you did. Im officially don't trying buffets. All disappointing. This one is no better. The place itself looks like your average buffet restaurant nothing special. It's not dirty but not clean either. It feels like the bare minimum. I didn't take any pictures. Love to go there. Only problem I have is that they cut out the main part of the raw clams and leave the less desirable part for our consumption. Soups are good. Sushi is great. Pizza is from frozen but the children seem to enjoy it. Always some non seafood options like kielbasa, roast pork. read more

Looking at some of the past reviews, I was kinda floored on the negativity. I'm sure their reviews are truthful. Coming here last night, I found the place nicely decorated, clean, and the staff pretty helpful. The food was good and neatly observed in its array of dishes. There was a lot to choose from and if you're hungry, this is the place, from seafood, pork, beef and vegan choices. Lots of desserts. There is a set price for all you can eat plus, you will pay extra for drinks. And the tip is included in the price so what you have is approximately $24-$25 pp. Lunches are approx 10% cheaper. I am shocked by the scary reviews on here. I grew up in Howell and live in San Francisco now and it is rare to see this range and quality of food at a buffet at this particular price point. Sure, the sushi is not going to be top grade quality, but I ate everything and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was attentive and the whole restaurant was clean. We did not have high expectations for this, but we were pleasantly surprised. It probably helped that it happened to be Valentine's Day and it was really crowded. The food was generally fresh and hot. Quality of most food was decent, which is a good thing! I did stay away from any of the raw foods, just as a precaution. My sweet MIL loves to go here for lunch. So on days when I have cardiologist appointments, I bring her here for lunch I can't eat a lot of the items available on the menu, right now, but what could eat was good. Mainly, soup, light fruit and basic protein. I'll be back in a couple of months, when I can enjoy more of the tasty food. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! I went here on 4/3 and I've been up with irritable diarrhea and vomiting. Pretty sure I have food poisoning. Food is always great and the various choices are amazing. The service is really helpful and always ready to assist. The place has been outstanding for the several years we have been going there, usually once a week. Be prepared to over eat, you can't help it. I love coming here. It's a little outta the way from where I live but the food here is always fresh and they always refill the food in a timely manner. This place has a huge selection to choose from so something for everyone. Service could be better but at least they acknowledge you from time to time unlike some buffet I been to. I don't give one star lightly, so I'll give as much detail as possible. Arrived on a Sunday at approximately 4pm. Packed to the gills. Had to take a number and wait 15 mins, no big deal. Asked for a table for 4, I am handicapped, scooter and oxygen. We were seated, a chair was removed, told waitress I prefer to sit in a chair. Chair was brought back. Came back from first round at buffet to find the manager having a tantrum over my scooter being in the way of people walking by (it wasn't) - he said you need to sit on the scooter, I said no thank you, I told the hostess I would be sitting in a chair and this is where SHE put us. I got the stink eye from him the rest of the evening LOL. Now the food was gross, there was not one thing on that buffet that I would recommend - some bland, some less than average, a few inedible items. But that's not the worst part of the experience - let's talk about safety. This place was a complete and total madhouse, no exaggeration. By the time we were ready to leave, we actually had to be escorted out by a hostess who could literally "part the mob" that had formed in the front of the restaurant, waiting for a table. Between myself in the scooter and my elderly Aunt on a walker, it was scary - people would just not move. Think I'm exaggerating? The crowd was so large that it spilled into the actual buffet/food area, where they stood and hovered while you tried to fix a plate. Speaking of fixing my plate - last safety issue. This place was overrun by small children who were touching (and SMELLING) all the food, coughing on it, etc. Parents did not care. If they are going to allow kids (and of course they should), there should be a rule about their behavior at the buffet or require the parent to fix the plate while they stay at the table. read more

Located near the Marquee Cinema on Rt 37 in Toms River, the Fortune Buffet was famous pre-pandemic for an overflowing assortment of fresh sushi/sashimi and an equally ravenous, overflow crowd spilling out into the parking lot. Well, fast forward almost two years and as you can imagine, all you can touch communal grazing food resorts have fallen out of favor making a return visit far less congested and frankly, a far less fulsome experience. Trays of sushi and sashimi once piled high and replenished in a flash now sit as cruel reminders of a time when our immune systems partied like it's 1999 --- or even 2019. The fare is still fresh and tasty but the assortments have been trimmed and the hot side is greatest hits Asian with far less variety. Fortune Buffet is still a pre-movie favorite but I kinda miss the hordes. Four optimistic stars. read more

I'm surprised at the ratings for Fortune buffet. They are the only buffet that I can think of in toms River though there are buffets that are in other towns. They are constantly changing the food out. They have foods on the weekends that you don't usually see other places like oysters, which are fresh and they have a good selection of all the type of meats plus a grill plus a decent sushi bar. Deserts are decent as is the ice cream. I highly recommend that you try them out and make your own decision but they're really hard to beat for the money. Service is good too read more

Absolutely gross! My husband, son and I wound up here only because my in laws picked the place and like it. The three of us? Not so much. First off was the shady looking customers hanging outside. Maybe this was furlough night at the local prison? Or maybe some of the extras from Breaking Bad were in town. I almost didn't even want to go inside but we had to because we were guests of the in-laws. Once we got seated I walked around the buffet area checking everything out and the area was was just chaotic with too many people and the food was gross looking. I wound up only eating three spoonfuls of fried rice and about a dozen green beans. No way was I touching anything else. All three of us went home hungry and we wound up cooking something at home. Went here after a visit in Tom's River The place is very big and has a great assortment of food. The Coconut shrimp was crispy and full of flavor. The Peanut chicken had a nice peanut taste to it. Large Chinese buffet with a large selection of seafood. They also have a hibachi grill that you can pick out your meats and sides and they will cook it to order. The rangoons are delicious and of the sweet cream cheese variety. There are multiple buffets with all the standard Chinese buffet dishes like general Tao and honey chicken along with other more traditional American fare. Service was ok. read more

This place has been a staple in my family for over 10 years.. huge selection of food, from the sushi bar, to the Mongolian BBQ, to the dessert. There is definitely something for everyone. There's pizza, Mac & cheese, and other selections for kids. They also have seafood and of course the usual Chinese food classics, and so much more. They have such a huge variety of sauces and styles of prepared food. I come mostly for take out, considering it is normally pretty crowded. Overall great place- I'd love to see them upgrade for a bit more space but this is definitely the best Chinese food place around the TR area! read more

Ate there tonight, it was very busy. Which wasn't an issue, it's Sunday & I expected it to be busy. I've eaten here many time & on a scale the food was a 7. However, the last 3 times I've eaten there the food has gone downhill, No Crab legs, most of the food was COLD, some of it was Luke warm at best and I'm being generous, very disappointed, I hope the quality & warmth of the food improves & it comes back to the best place to eat Chinese food. The food is fair but beware. They use no Covid precautions. I saw an old man put his whole hand on the ham to cut it bi went up to that nasty owner at the register and told her that a very old man had his bare hands holding the ham. She followed me over there and showed there was no fork to hold it. I sAid you can't leave the ham there his hands were on it. When I went back up awhile later the ham was still there. I went to her and told her again ypu can't leave that ham there. She said I switched it out. I told her she was a liar. It was the exact same ham. The owner woman is always a rude nasty grumpy lady. Never friendly. Never greets her guests. The fact that she could leave that ham there tells you how much she cares. I saw people breathing on the food. The food here is always cold, the sushi tasted fair but me and my father ate the sushi as usual and every time we've been there we are always getting sick. The service is pretty good the waiters and waitresses are nice but the resteraunt does not look pretty. It looks like it's still straight from the 80's. The crab rangoon wasn't bad. I couldn't scoop the ice cream it was hard as a rock. The shrimp had sand in it. The stir fry was decent but the sauces were all the same. Okay, the buffet is pretty awesome for what you pay for. The prices are super low here (about $10 for lunch?!) and they have both sushi and Mongolian BBQ (where you make your own bowl of noodles). The variety here was pretty great for the price. And the food was pretty decent. They are regularly adding and/or changing out the food. For a Chinese buffet, this is a good spot to get your fill!
