I would truly never go back or recommend this place to anyone!!! I walked in and asked for a quote on a dress and they told me a price and to come back with my daughter to get the fit right. When I came back the next day, they said a completely different price and were incredibly disrespectful. The guy that works there also crumbled the dress and threw it on a table with stains. Absolutely terrible experience at Fortunato's Custom Tailors . I would not recommend their services. I brought in four dresses for alterations, and unfortunately, all of them were ruined. Three of the dresses were hemmed unevenly and cut far too short, to the point that they cannot be repaired or worn anymore. The fourth dress was returned with the lining visibly hanging below the hem--something that should never happen with even basic alterations. When I brought this to their attention, instead of fixing the issue or taking any responsibility, they were rude, dismissive, and condescending. No apology, no solution--just attitude. To make matters worse, this isn't the first time they've been unfriendly and rude , but I overlooked it in the past. That was clearly a mistake. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Do not bring your clothes here. read more

DO NOT GO HERE under any circumstances! My wife and I brought 10+ items for tailoring and they 'accidentally' took the pins out of EVERYTHING. They weren't even apologetic and were actually incredibly rude about it when they called to tell me. They were terse and rude from the minute we first walked into the shop to get the initial fitting done but then she went completely overboard after her own mistake. Rude and unprofessional in every way. I'd pay twice as much to never go here again. read more

This woman does what she wants to do, if it's really easy. But even then, not always accurately. I brought back a blouse where I'd wanted the left straps changed, and the right side left alone. I got it and it was too high on both sides. She kept arguing with me that she never touched it on the right side, but I could feel it was now up inside my armpits. Anyway, we decided to part ways today, and thank goodness down the street I found a tailor who completely agreed with me and said he would fix the blouse. Fingers crossed. My former Tailor was a master Tailor from Korea but she left the US to go back to her family in Korea. Ever since, I've struggled to find a good tailor. I'm a fashionista who is picky about the fit of clothes. This, folks, is not a good one. read more

Had various items tailored here in the span of two months and I am very disappointed. i've had 3 pants "tailored" and came back to me never altered or touched. the recent green dress i had tailored came back half finished. they cut off the bottom of the dress and the top half is huge still. when i called asking for a PARTIAL refund they said "its not our fault youre loosing weight" and argued on the phone. first of all, i actually gained weight from all my summer travels lol. very unprofessional and extremely rude. dont waste 120.00 like i did. read more

Came in to have some Cub Scout patches sewn onto a uniform. Everything was done as asked and very quickly. They even have the Cub Scout handbook on hand that shows the location of where each patch should go! The Hispanic man that works here is incredibly sweet and friendly too. read more

I have had a couple bridesmaids dresses altered here. Both dresses just required the bottom to be hemmed, quite simple. The first dress turned out well and I was charged $40. The second dress I took had a tulle layer (made of nylon) with beadwork. Anna said it would be easier to just fold and sew the fabric under instead of cutting the extra length off... She used ONE fine thread to sew the fabric...the hem job lasted 30 minutes (It didn't even make it to the ceremony). So for the rest of the day/night I had a dress that was 6 inches too long- I could barely walk! My $300 dress then got destroyed from being way too long! The hem job looked like a 10 year old did it and I was charged $60 for this work! read more

Little attention is paid to what you want except for hem length----they do listen to your wishes on that score. But if you bring in more complicated matters such as taking in or letting out, you will have to argue with Anna, who has her very own idea of how things should look and feel. And you will not win that argument. A week later, after you try on the clothes she fixed and find they still don't fit, and maybe you request that she redo them the way you asked her to in the first place, she will say, with much conviction, "I do my work," and you will not win that argument either. read more

When I can't get free tailoring at Nordstroms, I come to Fortunato's. I love to support the small family businesses out there in a world run by chains and giant corporations. This shop is about 10 feet wide and it used to be run by an old man and his little chihuahua named Baby. He has since passed away and a new group of friendly people now work here. Anna is my current favorite. She recognizes me, my brother, and my mother because we all come in to get our alterations done. I have been coming here since I was a senior in high school... about 8 years now! I have seriously brought in everything that I have needed to get fixed... prom dresses, jeans, pjs, and sweats! Even sweat pants need their care and attention. I can remember bringing in my Laundry by Shelli Segal pink floor length prom dress to get hemmed because the gown was designed for 6' models. I also had to get the halter top tightened because I lack the torso and the boobs for such a low cut dress, especially in high school. No J.Lo dress for me. They did an excellent job and even added in a snap to the halter because they had to cut it. I recently got about 4 pairs of new jeans hemmed. One of them was a pair of Frankie B.s that cost about $150 from Metro Park. A younger guy measured me and I picked them up the next day to find that some of the legs were unequal length and that one was still 2 inches too long. I came back immediately and Anna re-measured me and made sure that it was a better fit. It was a relief to have Anna fix the other young man's mistake. Everything was fine in the end, thank goodness. Tips: Pricing differs depending on if you want the original hem on the pants or if there is a lining on your dress, etc. I would just ask before-hand so that you know how much you are paying for everything. There is also a $2 convenience fee for using a credit card. Pay in cash. If I can trust Fortunato's with my prom dress and designer jeans then I would totally recommend them to any of my friends and family. read more

The refinement of their work is average to below average, so I would recommend taking smaller sewing jobs for basic clothes here. I took in many items of finer clothing in for reducing the inseam or tapering the waist, some having gems or silk to deal with. When I was initially getting measured, the lady was very helpful and careful about pinning the fabric against my body, which I appreciate so much. She was very accommodating, as with her other family members, as I had tried on different items and asked specific questions about their approach. Of the 8 items I brought, 2 needed further adjustment because they had missed a ripped wrist seam on a petticoat and also sewed a strap loop wrong. When I came back to pick it, the older gent was very friendly to say if I needed anything re-done they can do it anytime for me. They also finished my repairs on the exact day they promised, which is good. The silk shirt that was 2 sizes too large for me had the sleeves reduced and the sides sewed in several inches. When I tried it on, the sleeves were still drooping below my arms so I will need to get fitted again. With regards to 2 tops the stitching was slightly uneven from the armpit down to the hem, but only I would notice it since I nit pick every asymmetry down to the centimeter. The true highlight of my time there was taking in a flower jean I've had since the 90s. For whatever reason the size 8 of the jean is like a size 2 waist only at the belt loop, so I asked them to somehow widen the top 5 inches of the pant. They opened the hip seam and added a triangular patch of light blue denim that matched the pattern of the jean. Also, another patch was added several inches at the belt loop hidden behind the brand label. It's exactly how I would have done it (had I been a tailor). Now I am very proud to sport the denim I haven't worn in almost 20 years! Overall, half the items I was pleased with for simple repair like a 2" ripped seam to re-sew. The tailoring of clothes to my body type was mediocre, and I may go to a tailor with a more keen eye. Otherwise go here for things like hems or missing buttons if you're looking for a cheap and reasonable price. read more

They reattached a button on the inside of my coat about 5 inches away from where we had discussed placing it. When I dropped it off, I tried it on and showed the man exactly where it needed to be. I went to pick it up, it was in the wrong place, basically making the point of having a button useless. Why bother when they don't listen to you! read more

I love this place! I just got my wedding gown back from them and am so happy. They took in the top for me, gave me a french bustle, sewed on my bridal sash, and added cups for the tiniest amount of money. They're not a frou frou place, but that was another reason I loved them. I'm a bridesmaid. And everyone who knows me knows this just isn't my scene. But as one of my closest friends walks down the aisle, I will be there in my navy blue, floor length dress that almost never was, thanks to Ana and crew at Fortunato. In full disclosure, I don't even have the dress done yet, but these guys get 5 stars for even putting up with me. Whatever the outcome, it'll be amazing. In a nutshell, got the dress, 2 weeks before the wedding, and hello! The dress I bought 3 sizes bigger is 4" too small. Panic, panic, panic. Try leaving my car unlocked so the dress gets stolen. No luck. I called a couple places I found on Yelp and got Christina, Ana's daughter on the phone. "Sure, bring it in, we'll see what we can do". OK, worth a shot. I come in and her mother Ana is there. She clearly has an "oh crap" look on her face as I walk out with the dress half on, but says "ok, we can do it". YES! So far I've gone in once, and there's still some adjustment to be made. I have no doubt it'll be perfect come Thursday when I pick it up, and they've totally relieved a ton of stress! They're also extremely reasonable!! I highly, highly recommend these guys. And thanks to them, I'll be in navy blue satin instead of duct tape (the jury's still out on which is better). read more

Horrible service. Don't go there. I have never encountered a more rude store manager. All I needed was buttons sewn on! I took my things there and spent about 45 minutes describing in detail where the buttons should go. The tailor says that Anna has to call me back with pricing. I wait a week and there is no call. I call and the manager picks up and says that Anna will not be in for another week and she has no time to give pricing. I try to explain that it is just buttons and she Rudely tells me to come get my stuff and hangs up. read more

I have taken fairly simple repairs in and I am always given a date when my items will be ready. I have been more than pleased. The work is always top notch and very reasonable. I prefer to charge but with her fee to use credit cards I always ask in advance of how much it will be so I have cash. One time thread came out of a hem on one leg of a pair of pants. I took the pants in they took care of it immediately and when I asked how much there was no charge. read more

Not going back. I've had alterations done in the past (between bride and bridesmaid dresses), and this was the worst job I've ever had. I brought my bridesmaid dress to just be shortened (it was three straight layers, so not extremely challenging). They didn't give me the time of day (which should have been my first sign to leave), but reluctant to just get the alterations over, I had them finish it. When I went to pick it up a week later, they had no idea what dress I was picking up - which made me nervous they had lost it. Finally they found it and when I tried it on there were pieces of tulle from the second layer hanging down. They fixed that piece and I paid my fee and left. When I got home to thoroughly inspect the dress, I found the pieces under the main layer to be jagged and uneven. I had to sit and re-alter it myself so it wouldn't show the day off my friends wedding. They obviously don't care about repeat customers, or perhaps I wasn't dressed rich enough for them to consider me one. Either way, I'm not going back. read more
