I will NEVER COME HERE again. I brought in my father in laws tie (who has passed away) in hopes of having a piece of it sewn into my husband's tie for our wedding. This tie is only thing my husband has of his father's. When I dropped off the two ties, we talked about EXACTLY what I wanted. I brought in a stencil of the exact size of the heart I wanted cut out of my father-in-law's tie and sewn into my husband's tie. We pinned the heart in the exact location that was to be cut off (back side of the tie) in order to preserve as much of my father-in-law's tie as possible. Flash forward to a week later, I pick up both ties and note that the bottom of my father-in-law stye has completely been cut off. Although my husband's tie looks wonderful, my father in laws tie was destroyed. I asked Nicholas if he could make my father-in-law's tie back into the shape of a tie and stressed the sentimental value of this tie. He refused, tossed the tie back onto the table stating "I will not do something like this". I explained again that I just wanted the shape back, he refused. I left in tears. Went down the street to another tailor who fixed the tie without incident. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS TAILOR TO ANYONE. read more

Nicolas Alterations - This is my father in laws tie. Destroyed. - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Needed a dress shortened that has complicated tiers and detailing, and I was annoyingly indecisive about what length I wanted also. They took the time to really figure out the right length, how to preserve the detailing I like, etc. They went as far as cutting the dress while I was there, and sewing with a false seam so that I could see the length firsthand. They finished the dress quickly and the final product was excellent. Not cheap, but not unreasonably expensive, either. Highly recommend this place. read more

Muy ocupado amigos! Reviews to put down...been coming to Nicolas for lord knows how many years...too damn old to remember. Only cat in town I'll let alter my clothes - from suits to jeans and whatever else you need to get fancy with. Turnaround times can be slower than the "ordinary" cleaner but the extra day or two is ALWAYS well-worth the wait. Okay, that's it. BTW, if you choose to not go here because Pokemons aren't available, well, they have pills for that. Go get something altered. read more

Ok, so if Nicola charges slightly higher prices, you get what you paid for: excellent tailoring, completed on time. We have been going here for slacks and dress alterations for over 20 years. A couple years back, I tried a tailor close to my work downtown, who was quite a bit cheaper. One leg came back shorter that the other. Back to Nicola's. Yes, you pay maybe $10 for your daughter's pleated school uniform skirt, and $12 for Nicola to alter it, but pleats are complicated and the job is done right! He takes credit cards, but I think greatly prefers cash or check. He is completely old school. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I've gone to enough tailors over the years and this place is the cream of the crop. I've taken pants, suits, shirts, and most recently a baseball jersey to get tailored. Every time, I'm in and out in less than 10 minutes. He's super friendly, helpful, quick, affordable, and most importantly...great at what he does. I couldn't be happier with my jersey. A $350 investment that was two sizes too big now fits me like this jersey was made just for me. Can't wait for Opening Day to wear it! The BEST! read more

Dropped off a bunch of items to be tailored here and while the work was pretty good, I think I paid wayyyy too much for the alterations. I brought in about 7 pairs of pants and some jackets to get altered as I have lost a lot of weight over the last year or two and it would have been a waste to get rid of the items. Nicolas sat with me as I tried everything on and took measurements carefully to make sure I got the fit I wanted. I would leave an additional star, but again, I think I ended up paying way too much for the work I had done. I might be back if I have only a piece or two that I need altered. read more

This is my first time going here, but he was fabulous. I asked him to take in the waist of a fully lined, wool dress with pockets at the hips (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/suiting/dresses/PRDOVR~24155/24155.jsp). Convenience & Pricing: He marked my dress up based on what I asked in less than a minute. I dropped the dress off on a Wednesday, and it was ready by Saturday for a charge of $40. Results: I could not detect a single stitch out of place, the lining was intact, and the fit was perfect! The dress sat perfectly against my natural waist without being too tight, the pockets did not "pucker" out, and it zipped without hesitation/resistance. Reliability: I went to him based on a recommendation; he tailored a beaded dress and a men's three-piece suit for two family members of mine. They also had quick initial appointments and fantastic results. I can be OCD-ish about details - as can they - so the work was quality, I promise. Hours: Be sure to call ahead first when bringing an item in. The hours listed are correct - you can pick up items during these times - but he may leave an hour before closing time. For card users: he was very sweet and I wanted to leave him a tip. Unfortunately, the receipt did not have a "tip" line and I only grabbed card to go pick up the item. So bring cash for tip if paying with card! He's 30 miles out of my way, but I will return to him and re-review with 5 stars after I have him tailor a wider variety of things for me :) read more

Absolutely the best service in town! The staff is always extremely welcoming and provide the highest quality work every time. The first time I came here, I was scrambling last minute to get my wedding dress altered. I had a mishap with the first dress I ordered and the second dress I purchased didn't arrive until 2 weeks before the wedding. I needed to have the dress hemmed, steamed and ready to go before the big day.. the place I bought it from said it would take at least a month. Since I didn't have a month, I went to find services else where. Not only did Nicolas guarantee my dress would be done in time, but he also gave me quite a fair deal for a wedding dress alteration / rush order. A few days before the wedding I picked up my dress and was absolutely blown away with the quality of his work. He even added a loop at the end of my train so I could adjust it for the reception. I have since brought in other items for alterations: a long evening dress and my husbands tuxedo pants for the wedding to name a few, and every time we leave completely satisfied with not only the quality of the work but the professionalism and amazing service we receive. I highly recommend this location for anyone in the West LA area in need of alterations. read more
