What an amazing little chocolate shop! My wife and I made the drive from Tacoma to come check it out after seeing a Facebook reel. The selection of different chocolates was amazing. They had free samples of pretty much everything on the shelf, so we were able to try them before buying. Everything in the store is organically grown, and the cacao is Peruvian pure Nacional cacao, something I had never tried before. The flavor combinations here are wonderful. You will surely find something you enjoy. The store owner was very friendly and helpful. Our children brought us here at this location in Issaquah. I appreciate the welcoming atmosphere at the shop and friendly service and free samples. The balanced texture and flavor combinations such as chocolate with roasted peanuts or other pairings make the confections stand out. We had an amazing time here. The staff welcomed us in and offered us to try a variety of their samples. They have so many samples to choose from. It's nice to know that it's all manufactured locally. The s'mores chocolate one was my favorite. They have chocolate mango that's dairy free so it's allergy friendly. They also have ice cream and dairy free ice cream here. We also got their hot chocolate that was okay. I preferred the chocolates more. The shop is spacious and clean. Lots of parking outside as well. read more

A friend and I accidentally stumbled upon Fortunato's Kirkland location (which is apparently newly opened), and it was a delightful find. The owners were enthusiastic about showing us around (and even offered samples). We bought a few treats from the case and two packaged treats for later. All were delicious. I am pretty sure their dark chocolate truffle is something I'll be dreaming about for quite a while. I'm still regretting (days later) not buying more for taking home. We will definitely visit (and stock-up) the next time we're in the area. Loved the dark chocolate squares with the dried strawberry! The chocolate is delectably rich and I love how perfectly it pairs with the tart berries. When I was in a few months ago and begged the owner to do a dark chocolate bar with dried strawberries and he said it would happen I was so excited! I've been coming in almost every week waiting for them and I was ecstatic when I finally spotted them in tiny packets a few weeks ago. We love everything at Fortunato, especially the distinct flavour of their one-of-a-kind chocolate. We always make sure to have their hot chocolate on hand at home because it's my little sister's favourite. I'm so obsessed with their dark chocolate covered oreo's The creamy chocolate and the crunch of the cookie make for the perfect treat. I could literally sit all day in the couch eating them until I looked like an oreo myself. They're that good!! l asked my dad which treat at Fortunato is his fave and he excitedly exclaimed "the chocolate!" My parents adore the dark chocolate peanut butter cups! The ratio of peanut butter to chocolate strikes a tantalising juxtaposition between sweet and salty. They're even better than the generic orange brand. The hospitality at Fortunato is unparalleled. I love how welcoming their dedicated staff is. They're always super helpful. One time, when their other location was closed and I mentioned I was craving soft serve, the man working the counter gave me a strawberry soft serve sample that made my day. My family loves this local gem and can't wait to come in next! Hopefully we'll see large bars of dark chocolate with dried strawberries soon. read more

I don't know if I was speaking with the owner but the person was obviously passionate about the store and this chocolate. He shared a lot of interesting information and offered samples. Get a cup of free hot chocolate. But some chocolate confections. This is not a chocolate maker. It's a chocolatier. Fortunato chocolate uses cacao from the Marañón river canyon of Peru. Brian Horsley & Dan Pearson (owners along with other family members) discovered cacao from this region with a large percentage of white cacao beans. Genetic testing revealed it to be a unique variety of Nacional cacao long thought extinct & related to the Nacional cacao of Ecuador. It's not the rarest cacao in the world, but it is remarkable. Fortunato send the cacao to Switzerland and has Felchlin make chocolate from it for Fortunato. The chocolate has an exceptionally smooth texture and a creamy mouthfeel--precisely what one would expect from a typical Swiss-made milk chocolate. Flavors are gentle caramel, dairy cream, and vanilla (the bar has added vanilla). A faint orange note flits across the palate along with the cream, and there's also a hint of banana. The finish becomes nuts and cream, with a rich chocolate buttercream frosting. And the aftertaste is that with a very faint hint of orange. If you love real milk chocolate, you will like this chocolate. It's a rich, mild, luxurious milk chocolate experience with little to no bitterness. Peruvian chocolate in the Seattle area. How cool is that? They have the usual solid blocks of various milk and dark chocolate as well as quite a lot of different varieties. We were initially drawn in by their sign for free hot chocolate on a cool day. Got to meet one of the owners and chatted a bit about their process. Love to see the business supporting the folks in Peru. Aside from the free hot chocolate, they have almost all of their chocolates varieties to sample. And the samples are large enough chunks to get a good sense of the flavors. I'm usually partial to the 70%+ dark chocolate, which they've decided to make sugar free with monk fruit. The result is a more gritty texture that doesn't appeal to me, but maybe to others? read more

This little chocolate shop in the corner of the Safeway/Rei/Verizon Wireless strip in Issaquah is a gem. This is at least my 3rd bag of these delicious turtles. Full pecans covered in caramel and chocolate you can never go wrong. The service when you walk in is friendly, they offer you to try a sample of everything they sell in the store, they got spicy chocolate, solid chocolate, truffles, you name it! The space is spacious and you get to look around at each of the items you sell. It's not set up the a bougie chocolatier bar. I'd you look for a special gift! But you'll know that soon after you walk in this small business as there is a lot to love here. I learned about Fortunato Chocolate when I saw this spot when shopping nearby at REI. Located on Gilman in the shopping center with Safeway and REI, this shop has all the chocolate you'll need. My partner and I visited on a Saturday afternoon and we warmly greeted by the friendly staff who offered us complimentary hot chocolate or a chocolate-dipped, frozen banana. A free welcome gift! While my partner and I each sipped on our free hot chocolate, we were told that all of the glass jars on the table by the register were unlimited samples that we could try for ourselves! All of the samples provided are products offered in the store, which is nice, so you can try the item before making a purchase. Whatever chocolate-covered item you may desire, they'll likely have. We ended up leaving with a bag of cacao nibs and chocolate covered mangos. What's especially wonderful about Fortunato Chocolate is their commitment to ethically-sourced products and their partnership with the farmers that they get their cacao beans from in Peru. The beans are from Peru and then it's made and produced in Switzerland before it's sold in Issaquah. I was told there are two locations in Issaquah, the other being their production site. But this location is easy to check out if you're already in the area since it's located in a busy shopping center. We stopped by this little shop after going to REI to check out their chocolate selection. They had great reviews so we thought we could pick up some treats before we headed out to camp at Crystal Mountain. Not only did they offer free hot chocolate (a combo of milk and dark chocolate) with vegan marshmallows, they were sending customers off with milk chocolate dipped frozen bananas too!! I didn't know what to expect, maybe something like a Rocky Mountain Chocolate type of shop but this place was anything but that. They carry a variety of chocolate covered fruits, brownies, nuts, and other treats. The chocolate isn't over the top sugared out and has great flavor. Can't decide? There are samples of everything they sell to help you narrow down what you want to take home. I was expecting a tiny or nonexistent vegan friendly selection but I felt like half of their offerings was vegan!! Including S'mores!! They use vegan friendly marshmallows (Dandy's) and even carry a healthy-conscious vegan brownie covered in chocolate which had just the right amount of sweetness. For the vegans and lactose intolerant, anything that is not labeled "milk chocolate" or "milk" anything is vegan friendly. I swear this felt like half of what they had! I may or may not have tried them all and had the hardest time deciding which to buy as I don't have that much luggage space. The employees were super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Since they were so nice, I felt comfortable asking a ton of questions since I really wanted to find something unique to bring home and also to support this awesome chocolate shop. Their chocolate is from Peru and definitely isn't super sugared out, so you can eat more! I finally decided on the Pineapple Coconut Chocolate Squares and S'mores. I highly recommend these! We were at Sephora and saw their display so decided to stop in. The owners are working in this location and have decorated their store with lovely bright photos , some of which include their time in Peru scouting the chocolate beans and working in the factory. I was indecisive about what I should choose as gifts and they were helpful, answered all my questions, and were patient and friendly. They have many free samples which was super helpful and they have so many options and can cater to people with dietary restrictions. For example, sugar free chocolate, dark chocolate covered dates, and turtles with house made caramel sweetened naturally with honey! (I would ask them as I may have remembered them slightly incorrectly as well) Tldr: they have delicious chocolate, friendly and bright atmosphere, and have a large variety to choose from. A total fan! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, with the company owner often on-site--and you can taste free samples of a host of products to your heart's content! As important, the chocolate is one of the best in the world, and yet very reasonably priced. Anthony Bourdain traveled to the origin of this specific chocolate in Peru in his No Reservations show several years ago, to find and taste the once thought extinct, genetically pure and still rare white cocoa beans which are the basis for Fortunato. The company pays its farmers ten times Fair Trade prices and created an ethical, no compromises on quality production chain from Peru to Switzerland to Issaquah (of all places!) where it packages and sends the product out globally. We have been a fan of its smooth rich taste for years; you can tell the huge difference from larger industry chains which have none of the care shown here. If you are anywhere near Issaquah Commons, you have to make it a point to check this chocolate paraiso out. I've been to Ghirardelli, Theo, and Franz, and I've tried so many different types of chocolate from so many different places, local PNW and others. This is hands down the best chocolate I have ever had. Silky smooth, flavorful, purest tasting chocolate that I have ever experienced. The flavor combinations they've created are so delicious, and the way they manage to bring every profile together without sacrificing the chocolate is outstanding. You get a free cup of hot chocolate when you walk through the door, not to mention that I think I have the exact same music playlist they were playing! I ordered an assorted box of chocolates in the mail so I can't rate their service. The chocolates that I received were of very poor quality. I tasted them all and they just didn't have much flavor. I was a chocolatier myself so I do know good chocolate and this wasn't it. I am no longer in business myself so it's not like I am competing with them. I wish the best for all small businesses. I should have known with the price being $22 a pound that it wouldn't be very good. That is too cheap a price. Anyway, they have a great back story and probably great service, just lousy chocolate. This is Peruvian chocolate made from Cocoa beans that were believed to be extinct. The chocolate is made in Switzerland and it's some of the richest chocolate you'll ever taste.
