Remember the theme song from "Cheers," "Where everybody knows your name?" Fort Orange would rewrite it to be "Where everybody knows your dog's name." That's a nice add-on to a beer list we really enjoyed. They had several stouts on tap, all with great flavor, and I was able to enjoy a flight including them all (reasonably priced too). It's a very friendly place, conversations flow as easily as the beers. The space and decor are great too. One thing to watch is parking. Evidently you can only park in the lot certain hours, a subset of the times the brewery is open. But there's ample street parking, so there should be no worries there. Really spacious brewery with lots of options and fun events! I attended a music trivia event and it was so much fun. They have someone who comes in and runs everything so easily and professionally. The space is huge - there's a bar area and tons of additional seating at several large tables. The brewery staff were so helpful and let me try a few different things before I decided on the Apricot Sour. I really liked both the pomegranate and apricot sours. They also had IPAs, a Pilsner, Lager, and several Stouts. They also had a taco food truck, which was great. I'd definitely go back! read more

Cool little spot off the beaten path in an industrial area. I tried the Evolution NEIPA and it was very good. Very hazy and creamy, I would recommend. Bartender was filling up about 10 crowlers for the guy in front of me but hustling and I found out the guy ahead of me bought me a beer for making me wait which was really nice, pay it forward! Tried this spot out using a groupon and you got your monies worth. Very cool set up with picnic style benches all spread throughout the brewery. They had a fun trivia night, that seems to occur every week. You can bring your own food with you, which was really cool. Isolated location off to the side with tons of street parking. Great open space with great brews and games! I have now enjoyed beers here on quite a few occasions and I have been pleasantly surprised each time. The beer is good and they are fairly priced. You can also grab cans to drink or bring home which is super nice. They often have food trucks serving up some goodies so that makes it an extra good time! Great brews and foods go great together. For now you must buy popcorn with the beer because of ~regulations~ but it's worth it to have a beer and hang out. I'll be back here for sure. read more

It's got that NYC vibe. I went here for trivia night. Get there early if you want a seat! It's very laid back with tables to share in what looks like an old garage or warehouse. You can bring in your own food or purchase some from the food truck sitting right outside. I guess if you are younger this is a place to hang but for us older folks, not so much. We ended up standing the whole time. It was way overcrowded. Nothing fancy here. They do allow dogs though which is pretty cool. read more

The bartender was incredibly rude. My wife had been carded after already ordering our first round. Fine, it was a busy night. What was not fine? When we came back after grabbing her I.D. out of her purse to hear the bartender calling my wife a b**** who thinks she is above the law to another patron. Incredibly rude beyond belief. When I went to pay I took the tablet to give my very poor gratuity given the experience already had and she rolled her eyes at me for taking the tablet from her. I'm sorry... I loved Fort Orange when we visited recently for the first time. The space is great. It's large without feeling cavernous. There is cornhole tucked in the corner by a large mural. Another corner holds a bookshelf packed with games. Multiple farm tables and a sprinkling of pub tables, as well as bar seating, offer a variety of choices. The restrooms are large, clean, and (for the parents) have changing tables! (Well, the women's room does; I forgot to ask my husband about the men's room.) Our bartender was very friendly and, perhaps because of our stroller and seven month old, made sure to let us know that they were family friendly. After reviewing the beer list, my husband and I each got a flight. We also bought a package of yummy popcorn that was for sale at the bar (and a friendly co-patron gave us her one of her bags of buy-1-get-2 pretzels; I've always relied on the kindness of strangers). While Fort Orange doesn't serve food, they gave menus behind the bar and welcome BYOF. But, of course, the important thing is the beers, right? Well, these beers are tasty! I'm biased by the name, but I especially enjoyed the Nipper IPA. I also really enjoyed the Mo-Mentum and The Local (their stout). While we have enough growlers for practicality's sake, we still bought a Groupon that entailed receiving two because we liked the print. (And I am a sucker for anything Albany-related.) Before we left, we were making plans with friends to return. This is a really great addition to the area and I look forward to returning many times. read more

I finally made my way to Fort Orange Brewing in Albany on a Saturday night in February. There was some off-street parking along the building; parking is not one of my super powers, so I always appreciate easy parking and not playing the "parking spot or towed car?" game. There were seven beers on tap (plus a cider from Nine Pin) and pint go for $6 while flights of 4 are $10. We tried the Whistle Stopper red ale, Pullman porter, the General blonde ale, and the Nipper IPA. Beer was good, but what made Fort Orange really stand out for me was the welcoming space. They had the most variety of games I've ever encountered in a brewery, from Rock em Sock em robots to standard board games to catching a ring in a hook on the wall. It's the kind of place you want to hang out and spend some time in, which I'd imagine you'd do even more if you were there on a food truck night. It seems like there's more than enough space to even add seating if they wind up getting full (nothing is worse than getting to a brewery and finding zero seats) and am looking forward to seeing how they grow. They're a great addition to the local brewery scene. read more

Really neat space with delicious brewskis and a dash of history. I have a soft spot for places that name beers after local landmarks or local history -- and that soft spot becomes even softer when those beers are also delicious. So, I really liked Fort Orange. The Nipper IPA was a gem, but all of the beers we tried were very good. It's also a great place to hang out. Plenty of space for everyone, plus games to pass the time between new pints of beer. This is an awesome addition to Albany's revival! Neat historical underpinnings to Olde Albany. Family owned friendly industrial atmosphere with picnic tables. No food avail except pretzels and soda for purchase. I'm told in the summertime food trucks are available outside. I was happy to try a flight of beer and actually had a Groupon for two so we tried all eight. Growlers are available for Takeaway. But I really enjoy trying all the beers. What's not to like? Great beers brewed 20 feet from the (pretty, if a bit spare at the moment) taproom, friendly proprietors, corn hole and board games (including old school Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots for the kiddos!) and a brewery with a sense of old Albany history. (Ask why their beer flight rack and logo look like that) The Local Stout was flavorful and roasty good, their namesake Fort Orange IPA was a straight-up NEIPA with citrusy nose, juicy flavor and just the right amount of hoppy goodness. I also sipped on their Irish red, Whistlestopper, easy to drink in the Smithwick's vein, but with a dry note from a bit more aggressive hopping than most reds. Open just since October, this place is already brewing gems and has great potential. Ask about the way-cool "Beer It Forward" chalkboard wall and buy your mates a brew for a future visit! read more

Fort Orange Brewing is fast becoming one of my top picks for meeting up with friends for a low key afternoon or evening out, or as part of a Warehouse District roundup when I'm feeling especially motivated. Although IPAs are usually not my top pick, I usually choose the Fort Orange IPA as my pint of choice. It's not too hoppy and it's crisp. I also have enjoyed the Momentum and the Nipper IPA. I did not enjoy the pomegranate blonde, even through I am a fan of beers brewed with fruit, but I'm happy enough with the Fort Orange IPA as a light option. Each mash tun (if that's the right name for the silver beer brewer thing) is named after the owners' children, and I'm hoping that they have a bunch of babies who are awaiting their namesakes so that there can be a wheat beer or sour in my future (pretty please!). My only other wish is that the beer be served a touch colder. I'm sure there's a technical taste reason for the temperature they're served at, but they always seem a bit too tepid for my preference. Although I'm pretty sure the identical 90s to mid 2000 track is playing during every visit (which is totally my jam, minus the Nickelback), each visit feels fun and fresh. The crowd usually skews a bit older (mid-twenties, plus), which means you can have a conversation with your friends at one of the picnic benches (gosh, I'm old). The board games are a nice touch, too, though Sorry! and Jenga were both missing a few pieces, so we improvised. I also have yet to master the ring on a string game, so that's another reason to return. That and for another conversation with Irish Dave at the bar. And although I am a bit bitter that we were unable to snag a spot in either of the two wildly popular Office trivia nights, despite dragging ourselves out on a Thursday night (old, remember?), we hope to return during a regular, hopefully less hectic trivia evening. All in all, Fort Orange is a great addition to Albany's slowly burgeoning warehouse district. It's worth crossing Broadway for! read more

Checked out Fort Orange Brewing tonight. From the street, it looks like an old fashioned service shop/gas station. Inside it has a cool feel of a warehouse and brewery. They have food trucks on weekends and the board showed a bunch of entertainers on the schedule. Crowd was cool ranging from toddlers with their parents to people up into their 70s. Place was clean with plenty of parking in surrounding lots. Let's cut to the important stuff. Their beer menu was heavy on the IPA side which made me happy. I think there were about 10-12 beers on tap. I tried four and each was better than the next. If your up for some delicious beers in a cool environment, give these folks a chance. read more

Not worth the headache. I've been here for trivia with work friends a few times. They are dog friendly and the beer is ok. The acoustics are terrible and trivia takes forever. Like it could easily be over in a hour and a half and it takes over two hours- they're giving way to much time for teams to look up stuff on the internet. They also neglect to mention events on their website. Tonight for instance, we came for trivia and there is a Siena alumni event. No tables a million kids. Stupid wait. Not a fan. read more

Welcome to the neighborhood. Nice wide open, lightly styled brewery & beer hall. When I visited Electric City Dawgs were doing a pop up here and we enjoyed their hot dogs and nachos. Super nice people. At the bar they are serving their own as well as other local brews. Juice boxes are $1 and bottled water is free. Seems like a real family place. Their son was behind the wall/barrier quietly playing a game out of sight from most of the crowd unless you looked over the wall. Glad to see warehouse district continue to grow. Staff was apologetic after the fact but did nothing during the hour+ of speeches, presentations, etc. We felt unwelcome. read more

The place, the vibe, the beer especially is 5 star all the way. However the fact that there is only 1 ladies room - 1 single ladies room - for a place so large is so ridiculous. Meanwhile the size of the ladies room is so big you could fit three stalls. If they add extra restrooms they get 5 stars for sure!!! read more

Hi, yeah it's me again. Deal with it. I stopped in last week to check out the new game in town and I was not disappointed. The husband and wife owners are very friendly as is the man who brews the beers. He is an army veteran so we had a nice chat. It is a mixed crowd of hipsters and old farts ( that would be my age bracket.) As I only had a short window to sample I went with their stout. I was right up there if not slightly above other stouts made in our area. The only reason I didn't go with 5 stars is the lack of food. I will return. You know, as soon as my wife lets me. read more

I'm super excited for this new addition to the Albany beer scene. I've been a few times to the brewery and I love the big space - tables and board games, food trucks and all of these live music offerings - this is exactly what I've been hoping we could get in Albany. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this grows in the Capital District. Some of the beers I've really enjoyed and some need a little more work, but the brewers are working hard to perfect their recipes and create a sense of community around the space and I fully support that! read more

Fort Orange has a nice, roomy taproom where you can see the brewery half of the industrial building behind the bar. There is a giant mural of the fort that gave the brewery its name. The staff is really friendly and will happily give you the lowdown on the beers they offer, and pour you a flight if you'd like to try several - or the awesome Gauntlet if you want to try all of the ones on the board. I particularly love the Peanut Butter Stout but they have quite a few good ones. It's also really easy to order food for delivery to the brewery. They also allow dogs inside and outside on the patio, which is great for those of us who have a hard time leaving our dog at home when we visit breweries during the colder months. Overall, this is one of our go-to places to meet with friends for a drink in the Capital Region. They also have good food trucks some days (check their social media for schedule) and weekly trivia (arrive early because it gets busy!). read more

Finally a real brewery in Albany. This is a great addition to the area. The beers are amazing. I had a great flight and all the beers were satisfying. My favorite was the local stout and the pale ale. They had a smooth finish and great taste. They have a great concept that you can bring your own food and they have food here and also a food truck(changes every week). I recommend this place to anyone who loves beer you won't regret it. Fort Orange Brewing is a wonderful addition to the North Albany/Warehouse District craft beverage scene! Living in Menands, my husband and I frequent the Warehouse District. Fort Orange has a Smallbany small batch series they produce which is always a treat. The atmosphere is super casual with garage door open to the fresh air, complete with Corn Hole (they even host a tournament!). Jim is super friendly and open to answering questions and talking about his beers; we attended an event on the Dutch Apple featuring Fort Brewing and Jim recognized us from the event. Fort Orange was hosting a TV show themed trivia night. Some friends wanted to go. Being a craft beer lover I'm always up for trying a new brewery. I hadn't heard much about this place so didn't really have high hopes but went in with an open mind. First impression: great vibe, it was really welcoming with great tables. I grabbed a beer, an IPA. It was meh. We checked out the food truck and grabbed some food. It was tasty and reasonably priced. I tried another beer, the sour. It was better than the IPA but watery and less tart than the sours I usually get. I also tried the Strawberry Blond. It was alright. The bar staff was awesome and did a great job managing the big crowd. The food truck left pretty early so half our table didn't even get a chance to get food. I feel like they should make a last call announcement. So overall, nice spot with eh beer. Perfect for people who aren't quite as been snobby as I am. read more

Not from the area and wanted to try out the popular breweries. The lady at the counter was really rude. I'm not Caucasian so I'm not sure if this was the reason why. I asked for a few samples of the beer and she said "you're killing me with these samples" and proceeded to walk away while rolling her eyes and shaking her head when she was preparing the sample.
