I hope they're better at taking care of animals than their employees are at driving. We got on the I-90 east bound thruway by Camp Rd in Hamburg. The driver of the van for Fort Hyde Kennels decided to just sit in the left lane, obstructing other traffic. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the left lane is for passing other vehicles, not for chilling out. Our vehicle, and multiple others, had to pass the vehicle from the right lane, as they would not move out of the left lane. The female driver seemed to be in a daze, as she was stairing straight ahead. No signs of checking mirrors or any type of awareness of what was going on around the vehicle. She showed no intention of moving into the right lane (or middle lane when it opened up to 3 lanes). Nothing against the business itself, but it might be a good idea to put employees who drive their van through some kind of defensive driving course. read more

My dogs both came home sick with diarrhea. One was covered in feces. Previously my daughter and I both kenneled our dogs there were a total of 5. 3 came home with kennel cough. This is because they take in and hold strays that are not vaccinated. Switched to The Doggie Inn. They take excellent care of them. They both love the staff and come home healthy and happy! read more

When I picked my dog up from a week stay, he was very tired, very tired. It seemed like he could finally get rest now that he was with us. He seemed anxious and would flinch every single time I would go to pet him.... He has never done this after a week stay at other locations. I had to use this kennel because our normal one was all booked. We were told Fort Hyde was great but I will never go back. They also charge something like $7 for a 15 minute play with a human. Fort Hyde has become our home away from home and if I could leave more than 5 stars I would. Sarah and her staff are fantastic and always take excellent care of my dogs! I have a 1 yr old German Shepard and 6 yr old Shih Tzu and they LOVE coming here and honestly so do I. The obedience classes have taught me so much and have helped the build a strong bond between me and my pooches. When I pickup my dogs from boarding they're tired from all the fun they've had and who doesn't love that! Not to mention the very reasonable prices. Whether you're there for grooming, boarding, obedience, agility, yappy hour, dock diving, private lessons or scent work, you won't be disappointed. after leaving my poor dog with this kennel for a week I came home to pick up my dog and was informed that kennel cough is rampant in the kennel and the vaccine she got may or may not work. Also the dog multiple hot spots or some kind of sores and will need to see a vet in the morning so $300 for boarding and now I need to pay for a vet visit. To say I am displeased is a major understatement no animal of mine will ever go near this facility again read more

I felt compelled by some other reviews to leave my experience over multiple interactions with this business. Easily put amazing sums it up. In a day when we can never trust what we are being told by others to have a business that is SO TRANSPARENT is a level of refreshing I can't begin to describe. Having to ability to tour the facility when we showed up on their doorstep for the first time and see the level of care by the staff was great. Having questions about where our 2 dogs would stay and what they would experience was answered not only by one of the girls but also by our own eyes seeing the establishment in action was comforting. Yes we did question the sign on the door about kennel cough but after the staff explained it and more importantly our vet confirmed what we were told, it was a level of trust that we knew our dogs were in the best possible hands if not our own. Can not recommend them highly enough and go and see for yourself don't take my or others words for it. Keep up the great work! read more

Twice in 10 months my daughter took her dogs there, both times they came home with kennel cough! Fort Hyde knew the kennel was infected with it before hand. Never called to let them know ahead of time. (of course not, then they would lose $$$) There was a sign there when my daughter got there, but very generic. And by that time it would have been too late to switch kennels. They were ready to hit the road in an hour with many reservations made. When my daughter picked the dogs up the woman asked if they were informed of it when they dropped them off, and no, they were never verbally informed. Fort Hyde claimed that the dogs didn't show any signs of it while they were there. BS!! The dogs were picked up in the morning and by that evening they were so sick they were ready to bring them to the E-clinic!! Terrible customer service! Yes they signed waivers, but the place knew ahead of time and all this could have been prevented if they would inform the customers ahead of time, so they can choose in advance. The least they could have done was knocked something off the bill, or offer to pay for the meds. She won't be going there any more, and neither should any of you. I left a similar comment on their FB page, wanna bet it gets deleted? Because all I saw was positive comments, and of course when you run the page you only keep the good comments. read more

Fort Hyde is very affordable and great with your pets. My boxer absolutely loves it here, and the kennels are so spacious and clean. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend it here if you're looking for a place to board your pets while you're away. read more

Dropped off my healthy dog and three days later picked up my dog sick. They asked me to sign a form that my dog was ok before getting to see him first. Turns out they did not follow management directions properly. Asked to speak to owner and they did not return my call only that they refused to pay a hefty vet bill. They never asked if my dog was ok. Owner refused to return my phone calls and they will not send copies of paperwork signed nor notes. I wonder why not if there's nothing to hide? read more

Having toured Fort Hyde behind the scenes, and leaving my dogs there over the past few years, I can tell you with confidence that this is a wonderful kennel. I have also had my dogs groomed there and they really do a great job and have a loving touch with the animals in their care. I love their Yappy Hour idea for dogs. This is a quality kennel, one where you can leave your cat or dog and not have to worry that they are being cared for with the best facilities around. Love their trainer too - she has won awards and she offers a wide variety of training classes. Love this place and you will too. read more

We've been coming to puppy classes, never been before. Fort Hyde was recommended by 4 people. We found the grounds inviting, clean. The instructor, Sara is very knowledgeable, hands on, helpful, patient. We, as well as our puppy, have been learning a lot. We also take him to yappy hour and like that too. Took our cane corso puppy here for training and fell in love the very first day! The facility is wonderful and the trainer is amazing (Sarah) we saw instant improvements in our puppy. I left my 40 lb. Coon hound at this kennel on a referral from a friend and because it was closer than the kennel we have used before. I called everyday for the first 4 days and was told that she was doing fine eating and getting her walks. On day 5 I called and spoke with Sue (assistant manager), who then told me that my dog would not let anyone near her and she had not been out of her crate since I dropped her off 5 days before. We have NEVER had an issue with this dog and people before, including the other kennel. I signed a contract that stated they (the kennel) would walk my dog 2x daily (extra cost for walks) and would feed her 2x daily. I brought her food in 16 small bags - enough to cover the time I would be gone. After speaking with Sue, I called my father-in- law to pick up my dog and to take her to our usual kennel in Youngstown. That's when I found out they were not feeding her 2 bags of food a day but only 1 (half of what she is suppose to have to maintain her weight) and did not give her ANY of the treats I brought for her. Sue claimed she had been off for the 5 days that this happened, but where was Sara the kennel manager? Where were the owners? Did no one notice this dog left in a crate without proper care for 5 DAYS! I will not recommend this kennel - there is a serious problem with neglect here if they feel that this type of care is OK and to right out lie to me. After all this, we were overcharged an extra day for the stay. 0 Stars is what I give. read more
