Oh my goodness this is the best food I've had in a while. And coming from Nashville (where we have excellent restaurants, that's saying a lot). The place is small when you walk in (they're moving to a larger building in a few weeks) and there's a small bar, a few indoor tables, and a few outdoor tables. The server (Megan) is the girlfriend of the owner and they're both New Yorkers (I think). We chose to split some meals so we could try more. The Karaage Fried Chicken Mama's Fried Rice was full of flavors, and so delicious. The Hitman burger was excellent: salty, cheesy, and had a bit of a kick in the sauce. The Brooklyn Milanese Fried Chicken Sandwich - pesto and mozzarella on top? With homemade bread??? Yummmmm. The garlic Parmesan fries are thicker potato wedges that have the perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. All in all, great place. We commented that we felt pregnant after leaving because of our overly full bellies. The funny thing was, all the moans from each tasty bite, you might think one was getting pregnant. The food was amazing! However, the service was far from it unfortunately. We were there on a Saturday night and the whole night we only saw 4 employees in the whole place, a hostess and 3 servers, attending several tables, but spread very thin. After we placed our orders, we didn't see the server again for over half an hour. Our food didn't come out until after we had been sitting at the table for over an hour, and we didn't even order any appetizers. It felt like the kitchen staff was staffed even worst, and the servers were embarrassed to come check in with us and empty handed. We were literally about to walk out when one of the members in our party pointed out that our food was being brought out. No apologies for the wait given. We ate every crumb, unsure in the moment if it was because the food was so great or if it was because we were starving, however, after further consideration once we had all calmed down later that night and again the next day, everyone in our party confirmed the food was excellent! It's very unfortunate that they were so short-staffed and that the staff that was there showed no empathy or ownership. But because the food was so good, that's why I would recommend it and perhaps even go back one day. read more

Excellent restaurant! Loved the decor, atmosphere and food! The beet salad flavors were so good and it was different than any other beet salad I've had with pesto, beets, ricotta, pecans and greens. The drop biscuit crab rangoon app was amazing. The fried chicken was so good but the star of the show was the corn cake it came with. We all wanted more of the corn cake. Overall we had a great experience especially considering this was only their 2nd brunch service. Our server was a bit green but he's cute and was very attentive. The owner explained everything is made from scratch including the bread, etc. He brought a salmon appetizer special while we waited on our order. Made plans to come here after our Ringling museum visit and it did not disappoint! Keep in mind it is a small sit down restaurant but we had no trouble finding a table to sit at. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Everyone who worked there was absolutely nice and attentive. I ordered the chicken Milanese sandwich and it was delicious. I'm never really impressed with fries but it was paired with some crispy potato wedges that had the perfect crunch and soft ratio. Not to mention they had a generous amount of Parmesan sprinkled on top. The sandwich bread was flavorful and fluffy and I read they actually hand make their own bread! Sarasota has many great restaurants; but this one offers something really special. Most welcoming host, small, very cozy room, casual set-up, can eat indoors or outside. And the food! Very special. My partner had the Brooklyn chicken sandwich and fries, served on fried bread and carefully spiced, unusual and delicious. Never had such yummy fries! Our sister had the Shogun and it too was just perfect. We were blissed. I had the Creole brussels and cauliflower, probably served more often as an appetizer but I wanted as my main. While the restaurant sits on a major thoroughfare, it's somewhat easy to miss as its surrounded by plenty of businesses and kind of tucked away in a corner. Don't let the inconspicuous setting fool you. This is an absolutely terrific eatery for any number of Southern dishes - honestly, in our experience nothing disappointed. The brussel sprouts were deliciously charred - savory and sweet and utterly succulent. The red snapper creole was deeply satisfying, boasting a dirty rice that rivals anything you'll find on Bourbon Street (New Orleans). My salmon sat placidly on a bed of celeriac puree that was nuanced and fresh and beautiful. And the banana pudding! One order was enough for the six of us - it's practically a goblet of the stuff. And it's extraordinary - sweet but not cloying, and surrounded by caramelized bananas to render the dessert even more decadent. Mark Traugutt, a co-owner, is a graduate of the prestigious French Culinary Institute. We learned this when Traugutt approached our table to say hi and ask if we were pleased with our meal. It's soul with french and a latin twist. If you do not like brussel sprouts or cauliflower, I challenge you to not like their creole brussels and cauliflower. The best I have ever had. The spicy garlic parmesan wings are unbelievably moist and not overcooked, as was the mac and cheese with fried chicken chunks added to it as an option. The focaccia says it has roasted garlic and tomato butter, but it reminded me of pimiento cheese. Fine with me bc I love me some good pimento cheese. My husband enjoyed his papas bravas. Said they reminded him of the same dish he had in Spain. Inside you have three very large tables to accommodate large groups and outdoor three picnic tables and a two top and is partially shaded. We were chatting with the waiter and he was telling us there is no freezer on site. Which means they have to use up whatever perishable food they have that day; in other words everything is very fresh. Pricing is VERY good too for the portions. Our 5 and 7 year olds split the mac and cheese and it was plenty for them to share. They had left overs. If I come back to Sarasota, I am definitely eating here again. read more
