We began by ripping out existing plants, pavers, brown gravel, and artificial turf for both a putting green and a general use area. We started by building a pool (a cheap plug for Dolphin Pools who did an amazing job). After the pool was completed, the second half of the project was ready to begin. This is where Colorworks stepped up to the plate. I could not begin this without mentioning one of the owners, "Jon Hammel". Colorworks Landscape Design, Inc. received rave reviews on Google and Yelp, so we reached out and were promptly scheduled for a complimentary estimate. Upon Jon's arrival, I could sense his excitement and creativity as he envisioned transforming our dream backyard into the upgraded space we desired. Although we had a plan in place, Jon skillfully incorporated his unique ideas, resulting in a comprehensive rendering of the project. We were immediately convinced that Colorworks was the ideal choice for our project. What truly set Jon apart was his unwavering honesty and thoughtful approach to refining our existing plan, ensuring that it reached its full potential. I want to clearly state that there are many stages to such a massive project. There are always going to be delays, and we had a few. Additional parts needed to be ordered, and of course, the weather did not always agree (lots of rain). Since our backyard is not the largest, every inch of the project required attention, and Jon fully comprehended that. The project included 3 large retaining walls, 164 Sq ft. of pearlescent travertine, 18 Indian laurel ficus trees with 6 tons of topsoil, 450 sq ft. of Daytona 80 0z turf, 4 stoned columns on a pergola, a wood accent backdrop for pots, and white rocks. This also included taping into existing irrigation drip, electrical lines, and reusing leftover pavers in other areas. Jon (along with our ideas) was the brains of the project, but Cesar Aldama is the contractor who brought it all together. Cesar, along with Ginato, is an excellent team. They showed up on time and worked tirelessly each day, and consistently cleaned up before they left. They always treated our home with respect, and we couldn't help but notice. Cesar is an expert in construction projects and possesses extensive knowledge in the field. My wife, being meticulous and OCD, wanted perfection in the job. Cesar meticulously coordinated with us on every aspect of the project, providing valuable advice on what could and couldn't be done. He is truly an artist, and we couldn't thank him and Ginato enough. The straightforward truth is that Colorworks fulfilled their promise! I can't forget to mention other members of the team that did amazing work: Jeff (owner), Mark, Manny (Turf installer and his awesome crew). Today his crew - led by the very capable Ricardo, and his crew member Alejandro came out and trimmed my huge citrus trees into shape, to get them off my roof, and my neighbor's fencing. They also took care of a stray, dead branch from my Joshua tree, and a fallen arm from my massive totem cactus, as well. Not only that but they accommodated my busy schedule today by coming out at a more convenient time than originally planned. This was most helpful as I have a sick dog to deal with today. This all involved a very substantial amount of Money that was going to be put into our home. Dave came back with a very fair estimate and that is why we chose his company to proceed with the work. After about a month of working with his crew, he became somewhat defensive on when we would present to him areas that we were concerned with and dissatisfied with the work that was in place. Each time he expressed that his crew would be back out to correct the issues. A couple of times he did in fact come back and the issues were somewhat taken care of, however, he was supposed to come back to complete our backyard to put in place the artificial turf. Evidently with us expressing some dissatisfaction with the work that had already been performed, must have upset him to the point where now he will no longer return our calls nor will he repair the issues that we had expressed to him We had also noticed that some items that we bought (such as low voltage wire) that we wanted the crew to install, and when only one side of the house was completed and they stated that they were out of the wire, when we showed the receipt of the quantity purchased which was more than enough to complete the entire job as quoted by Dave. So we did go out again and purchased additional wire to cover the short fall, again purchasing more than what was required to complete the job and that excess had also disappeared. We noticed that there was also small landscaping hardware missing. This not only happened not just once but twice. When we voiced this concern to Dave (the owner), he laughed and stated that one of his crew members was good at taking little items from job sites. Thought he would have been more upset about the situation, but he made a joke of it. We approached him numerous times about the repairs and also for the top of the outdoor island to be sealed, again he never called back nor showed up to finish the job. Do not go with this company unless you want your job half done or really don't care about the quality of work that is being done. If you voice some dissatisfaction with the work that had been done, his attitude will change and will no longer continue with the job. We are at this time, considering filing a complaint with the ROC, reason being, to fix the issues that were brought to his attention will cost an approximately $2500 to complete. And we are also working with other contractors to complete the jobs that he seems to not want to do, nor at this point, do we want him to do.

Project scope was multi phase: landscape lighting, some plant installation, and replacement of grass in front yard to corapia to align with city of Phoenix program of replacing grass. Landscape lighting went very well - work was done expeditiously and end result was great. The cutover from grass to corapia started out great - team did good job of removing the grass and doing the install. While things looked good during the first few weeks, I then noticed that I had "nut" grass growing rapidly. I contacted Dave, he popped by within a couple of days, assessed it and said he would try to figure out how to get rid of it. That was in March. After numerous texts and emails the past few months, nothing has been done and since my yard started to look like a jungle, I began using my old landscaper to at least cut things back so as to not have the city fine me for violations. The plant install, which I had not paid for, has yet to be done even though I was told order for those plants was done in the spring. Disappointed to say the least as he also did my next door neighbor cutoff to corapia and theirs looks great. More importantly, while the city approved me for reimbursement for replacing grass, I in good faith cannot accept that payment, knowing that the planned end product for the front lawn is not up to snuff

I paid to have brand new turf installed because I was told my existing turf needed to be replaced due to visible seams. After the job was completed, the new turf still has seams, which defeats the entire reason I agreed to replace it in the first place. I also paid for a completely new irrigation system, but it appears that it was never actually replaced. Many of the sprinklers still have the same old sprinkler heads and tops, yet the company insists the system was replaced. The visible evidence suggests otherwise. Additionally, I paid for repairs to my fire pit, and within three days the structure was already cracked again. The professionalism on-site was also lacking. During the job, the crew took a break for about an hour sitting on our personal lawn chairs and didn't even bother to put them back, and they left trash and debris behind when they finished. What's most frustrating is that I've reached out multiple times to have these issues addressed, and each time I've been pushed aside, given excuses, or told things that simply aren't true. At this point I feel like I paid a significant amount of money for work that was not completed as promised and was poorly executed. Overall, this has been a very frustrating experience, and unfortunately I cannot recommend this company to others. Update. The owner has informed us that we will be receiving a refund that should have arrived today. If course it did not arrive, not is he answering any attempts to reconcile. This shows how crooked he is.

I hired Straightline Landscaping for a project at my home, and unfortunately my experience went…read moredownhill after the initial payment was made. At the beginning, they were very communicative and responsive, which gave me confidence in moving forward. However, once they received our money, their level of service noticeably changed. First, the project start was delayed by an extra week with no communication from their team. We had to reach out ourselves just to get an update. Second, midway through the project they contacted us about adding electricity to our built-in feature. Since the cost increase was minimal, we agreed. But when the project was completed, they told us they couldn't figure out the electrical component--and refused to refund the money we paid for that addition. Third, our front yard sprinkler valve has leaked three separate times over the past 14 months. Each time, it takes weeks to get someone out to repair it, which is incredibly frustrating. Fourth, I have left numerous voicemails, emails, and warranty requests asking to speak with a manager, and I have yet to receive any response. Lastly, during the first windstorm after installation, one of the lights was knocked over because it was not installed properly. The company refused to take responsibility for the improper installation. Overall, the lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through has been very disappointing. I would not recommend Straightline Landscaping based on our experience.

When it came to construction, they had a fantastic crew who really did great work. And if we weren't happy with something they would adjust it. The really wanted to ensure that we were thrilled with our landscape. They even fixed other work performed by the pool contractor because they knew it would be a problem and they wanted to do the right thing. Not many contractors do that. The finished product is phenomenal! We love being in our backyard and sharing it with our neighbors and friends. Also, they have a great warranty program and a dedicated warranty team to help. Since they do a lot of work for the home builders you don't have to worry if they will be around to help after the job is done. Highly recommend them for your larger landscape needs.
