MONEY HUNGRY & AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!! If I could leave 0 stars I would. I had fillings done here back when I had dental insurance through my job. I still ended up paying more than expected...but to make matters worse I had to get 2-3 of the fillings redone TWICE. Not to mention for the high price of the fillings, they filled them with the cheap orange stuff not even the white composite. Fast forward to last week those fillings have now failed again, I have never had that happen with previous fillings from less "luxury" dentists. Anyway, there was a hole in my tooth from the cracked filling the night before a special occasion so I booked an emergency appointment for the following morning. I expected to pay for the cost of the filling since it has been over a year. After completing all of the pre-appointment paperwork online, I get a call from their front desk 20 minutes before my appointment time. As I am preparing to depart for my appointment she says my previous insurance is expired...as expected, I do not have dental insurance anymore. Not a big deal, I expected to pay out of pocket. After confirming my lack of insurance the front desk woman's tone immediately changed as if I were worthless to the business. She then proceeds to tell me that for patients without insurance they recommend PURCHASING A COUPON PLAN...$119 for 20%-50% off SOME services for 1 year. I politely replied that I wasn't interested in further services just the filling repair and she said well just the basic exam & xrays would be $400-500?!?! No cleaning, no filling, just the potential diagnosis. ABSOLUTELY NOT. When I asked if she was sure she scoffed as if I was a peasant walking among them and said "mmm yeah, let me know if you'd like to cancel." If you're unfamiliar with dental care, even without insurance that is an OUTRAGEOUS price for the initial amount. I've never experienced dismissal before I even walk into an office!! When I asked her to please cancel the appointment there was no offer for payment plan or understanding in the slightest. She just said "mmmk great" and moved on...seems like they wanted to brush off a patient without insurance with a scary price tag. It worked. Sad to leave this review as an attempted returning patient the service used to be alright. Now, I'm never coming back and recommending to everyone not to even consider going here. read more

Red flag as soon as you walk in and they have you sign your name electronically without any detailed information. Even triple checking, between my Insurance and "their" billing, still paid a $100 extra after insurance went through. I feel bad that some folks probably just believe what they owe and don't check. Ok, I'm so upset with this place. I read the reviews and I was skeptical of the reviews. And I should have listened and now I have to live with regret making this decision to get my tooth filling here at foothills smiles dentistry and orthodontics. Couple years back ago, I supposedly had a cavity, and I had them fix this problem. Did not once had any pain of that particular tooth. Was just going in for a general cleaning. So the dentist recommended to get this cavity filled. So I agreed. They filled with resin filling. Two years later, while flossing this tooth filling came off (Saturday night). So I scheduled an appointment next business day (Monday) and get seen. And dr. Aaron jarvis (in network) recommended that he needed to clean off the old residue and place with new resin filling again. So he does and next you know the resin cured and had basically redo again. Now he says I need to drill deeper and bigger to make sure it doesn't cure and place in order. Plus he had assistant that was straight from training/college and I think she might had just over a year of experience. So numb my gum line and drilling began and it seemed like he (Aaron Jarvis) wasn't for sure if he resolved the problem. Like my tooth was beyond repair with noise he was making. But he kept asking me questions about pain and me lying there thinking he missed up my molar. Giving hand gestures to his assistant that might of missed up. I asked him if everything ok. He said everything is fine. So I told him this is covered under the warranty of filling right. He smiled and said I'll have the front talk to you about it. Lady comes in with perspective quotes for more work (deep cleaning) if I wanted done. So I told the ladies upfront this should be warranty cause this resin didn't even last 7 years of what I was told from first time worked on. And she told me to hold on and had to talk with dr. Aaron Jarvis (owner) about the situation. They gave a discount from $65 to $15 out the door. I'm thinking ok better than full price. So after couple of days later my tooth is in total discomfort even more than ever. So called the office to schedule an appointment but dr. Aaron Jarvis works half days on Thursdays and off on Fridays. I had wait till Monday to fit into his schedule. Monday comes and told him the discomfort I have with the tooth. Feel cold air and when chewing it feels like the resin didn't quite settle in right. Like amount of pressure is on my bite. So X-ray again and photo of the tooth. He says the filling looks good a bit high on a particular area. That's probably the pressure on the tooth with the bite force. And did some test with some instruments and the last test was a painful experience. And looked thoroughly on that tooth again, he says it's appears to have a fracture line on it and now I need a root canal procedure. That set me off. I'm like how in the hell is this going to root canal procedure from a simple repair of filling. You basically killed my tooth I told him. This is your fault right? I told him. He said it was my fault of getting a cavity. You did the drilling and made the hole bigger. And cause that fractured line on my tooth told him. And he said it's not his fault or the previous dentist that worked in his office. I'm so furious at this moment and not let my fighting days get the best of me. I told him I want X-rays and photos of all my records. And that he was going tell his receptionist to get that ready for me. Now I'm going to get couple of dentist and different options. This place seemed to scammed me with a quality of life tooth loss. I highly don't recommend this place. Please get major work done else where. Avoid this place ! They told me that they would do a routine exam and cleaning covered by my insurance. They ended up doing a bunch of CT scans not covered by my insurance . I received a $500 bill and didn't even get a dental cleaning. They refused to clean my teeth because I had to get a "deep cleaning " and refused to give me a regular cleaning . When I asked why they said because it would be considered neglect . I have multiple friends who work in the dental industry and they confirmed that was a scam tactic ! They tried to charge me $800 for the cleaning ! Now I have to go through the process of my $500 dollar claim for services I did not ask for . AVOID THIS PLACE . read more

worst dental experience I've ever had. Went in for an appointment today to have my teeth cleaned. That's it just a cleaning.I just left the office after two hours without even having my teeth cleaned. Kept me there to tell me about every other problem in my mouth when I was simply there for a basic cleaning. I know I don't have the best teeth in my mouth but all I wanted today was a cleaning and I didn't even get that wasted two hours of my time. I'll never be back. The front desk women were very rude and catty. They spoke down to people when they were not at the desk and as well as in front of them. I was sitting waiting for my boyfriend who was a patient and was watching these interactions. Another story is Aaron jarvis. He broke teeth he also did an implant and then kept stringing it out longer and longer and even offered to do the job that he wasn't qualified to do. They are crooked here. I have 2 other friends that also went here and they had the same type of interactions. I wish I would have known this earlier to save the trouble and emotional damage this caused. It has ruined the trust we have with dentists around here. He was going to put in an implant that was crooked like carnival teeth. That's exactly how the new dentist who finished the work said it. I was at this place for a limited oral exam about a loose bridge with Aaron Jarvis. The front desk personnel and the tech were nice enough. But the dentist was absolutely the most unfriendly and rude healthcare provider I have ever seen. It took almost half an hour for them to take my X-ray which is around $500. When he came in, he just took a quick look on my bridge and told he would not recement it and he would only make a full new one (their price estimate is 12k) and also told me go back to where it was made, if I wanted it to be recemented. It took less two minutes with him, he did not even provide information on X-rays. read more

I really detest this new approach to dentistry - push, sell, intimidate so the patient gives in to more expensive or not immediately needed services/materials. They even refuse to do a cleaning unless you agree to have the services recommended by the dentist (see other reviews - we are not the only ones complaining of this). Our family has been coming here for a few years and Dr. McAlister has successfully crafted beautiful smiles on our children's faces. Our third child just started the braces process and was initially super nervous. He told us that he enjoyed the appointment and it wasn't as scary as he had envisioned, essentially due to the personable nature of Dr. McAlister and friendly atmosphere of the office. With the hefty cost of braces for three children, we've really appreciated their affordable rates and comprehensive treatment plans. It should also be mentioned, I feel that finding great customer service in Arizona is difficult, however both Chad and Deanna deliver exceptional service each time and it's appreciated. I filed a complaint with the insurance company, and they spoke with the office manager, and he stated that we purchased upgraded dental materials which the insurance did not cover. I am generally happy with Foothills Smiles. Just had to change due to insurance changes. First visit was very thorough and I asked many questions, which were answered honestly. Of course there was (which seems to be the norm for today's dental practices) the usual long list of what I need all costing a lot of money, even with insurance. But to be honest, I am certainly free to choose what I want and when I want it. I did not feel any pressure nor did they say my teeth would fall out if I didn't get a certain service!!!! Totally reckless about covid. People packed in with no social distancing. None of them wore masks OR gloves. Made a mistake on pre-authorization and took a bunch of unnecessary x-rays, cost me $200 unexpectedly out of pocket. Told me I had periodontal disease, second opinion dentist told me not true at all. Hygienist finished her work and left the room without a word ... Cash register lady was tasked with telling me about the alleged "periodontal disease", tried to convince me to schedule ANOTHER 2 hour cleaning..(!!?) Horrible bedside manner, horrible customer service, these people run their business like they're entitled and full of customers so who cares... By far the worst dentist i have ever been to. Probably time to find a new dentist office. Been a patient for over 8 yrs. A few years ago they "identified" me with periodic disease. Had me meet with surgeon to bone graph by a back tooth. 5 yrs later my teeth and gums are exactly the same; "looks good". But now since I'm "identified" they won't treat me unless I pay the $78 extra services fee although services are exactly the same, which are nothing special and done weakly. The TL;DR - Avoid Foothills Smiles and Orthodontics and Dr. Jarvis at all costs! On May 2, 2019, my wife and I would definitely NOT recommend this office and Dr. Jarvis. My wife went for a routine exam, was told she needed both a filling and a crown on separate teeth. The filling went OK, but then they upsold her on a "better" crown with a 5 year warranty. She had to spend a total of 7 and a half hours at the office with our 5 year old daughter! Why? Read on... They made the first crown after imaging and waiting about an hour. The assistants put the first crown on, but Dr. Jarvis checked it and didn't like the way it fit. He wanted to put a second one on, but they had to make a new one. Each wait time was 45 minutes to do the imaging. The second one was fit by the assistants again, it seemed to be fine, but Dr. Jarvis came in like a bull in a china shop, set it, the cement hardened and THEN he didn't like it. They had to grind the cement off and take the 2nd crown off. My daughter was getting hungry, so I took some time to get her lunch nearby while they made the THIRD crown. After she got back, they did more imaging and then when she sat down, Dr. Jarvis checked her tooth, hit it with a blast of air which was extremely painful and set the third one. By this time it was after 2pm. Her appointment started at 7:30! Afterwards, they charged us $822 for the services (this included a $150 fee for making the crown in office that they did not tell her about). My wife asked for a discount based on her poor experience, but they refused. I went after work to discuss her poor experience with them. Dr. Jarvis reviewed all the x-rays with me and explained why he had to replace the 2 crowns, which he didn't charge us for. I asked for a discount or something, but he and the office manager, Chad, while apologetic, refused. Dr. Jarvis offered $100 off a TMJ splint that my wife needed that they normally charge $300 for. I refused. We found a great one on Amazon for $100. We filed a complaint with the corporate office who promised to call back. They didn't. We filed a complaint against them with our dental insurance. Nothing else could be done. All I can do now is warn anyone else who is searching for a new dentist to NOT GO TO FOOTHILLS SMILES. read more

Worst experience ever! I am here writing this review at 3:32 am, because I can't sleep from the pain I am in! I went in because I lost a front tooth and needed a bridge "traumatic enough" they said let's do it and extracted my tooth. The assistant is the worst, she made the most hideous temporary I have ever seen. She never made me see it before I leave. After I hit in the car, I looked at it and screamed! Went back in, she said "I have been doing this for year and this the best you can get!", I left again. Called another dental office, went there and they did the most beautiful temporary for me, but I had to pay "$350" for that. I called them and said that I not comfortable doing my bridge with them and the financial guy said that they had run the insurance already and Dr.Jarvis must complete the work. He promised that the real bridge will look so beautiful because they use a nice lab. Weeks later, I go for my permanent bridge, I try it on and it's very bulky and weird. I said that it's very bulky and dr.Jarvis said: "it's for durability, you are gonna get used to it." I called the lab and they said that this is not true, they make the bridge just like impression they get! Here I am now with not only an uncomfortable bridge, the pain is excruciating I am taking tramadol every 4 hours, had to miss work, can't eat, or even brush my teeth! The assistant is horrible! Thought I was going in for a teeth cleaning but it took over an hour and a half for xrays and gum counting to be told it was going to be $800 (with insurance) to clean my teeth, and I would need to schedule another appointment. When I said that I just wanted my teeth cleaned Jennifer told me that was not an option as I was diagnosed by a hygienist needing the extra deep cleaning. When I said no thank you I just wanted my teeth cleaned I was told I would need to find another dentist as they would only do what the hygienist "recommended". I spoke with assistant office manager Denise who confirmed that what was recommended was that, a recommendation not a mandate but that option (not spending $800) was not available at their office. So I left with no teeth cleaning, out my co-pay, and a dry mouth as I wasn't even given a cup of water after the hygenist stabbed my gums. Disappointed to say the least. I'n November I went in to get a crown. I was told I needed two the same day because I had an old feeling next to the tooth that was going to be crowned. I said I would do it but only wanted the lab made crowns. The in-house made crowns were double the price and I have been told not to get them. I was reassured that they were great, warrantied, and was offered them at the same price as the lab made crowns. I was already in the sea and just went ahead and did it because I felt pressured. I had pain for the next three months. I was living off ibuprofen and could hardly chew. I went back a few times but my crown was basically drilled down to almost nothing. I was still being told that it was my bite. Once Covid became a big issue, I had to stop taking ibuprofen. That's when the pain became unbearable. I called him to discuss it with the manager Chad, and ended up having a horrific argument. Needless to say I went back and was advised to get a root canal. I paid another $300 for that. Two weeks later I am back with the same pain with the crown, now chewing on the opposite side of my mouth, all of my teeth are sore, my gums are sore, And I feel pain when sleeping. I can't even brush/ floss around my crowns without them hurting. I've tried to contact my insurance so I could go somewhere else, but was denied. I haven't been offered any type of refund, Or advised on the warranty work and getting new crowns I'm actually terrified to go back. Tomorrow I am going to a new place, and will be paying to replace the crowns at full price. This has been the worst 10 months, and dental experience I have ever had. I want to warn anyone else against getting crowns done here. I feel horrible for writing this post. I would've written it sooner, but I'm not that type of person, I wanted to give them a chance. When I inquired about replacing these crowns, I was told it's not recommended because you lose more tooth every time you do it. At this point I would be fine with them pulling them out. read more

Have been going for a few years and always a good experience. Not many people like going to the dentist and I am one of them. They are always nice, explain options and what should be done. Financial options are explained well and not pushy. Very comfortable and place is always clean and I've had to change an appointment a few times and they were understanding and able to accommodate me. Love that I can make a late appointment and not miss work. Only had one issue when my insurance changed and I still went in and they didn't have the approval. Poor quality dental work and rude staff. My orthodontics was ready to come off, but their ortho said I needed additional time. He ruined my teeth and I now have a gap on the side of my mouth that was NEVER THERE BEFORE because he didn't know what he was doing. It's irreversible now and is permanent unless I get a crown on that tooth. 2nd I got additional work done that looks sloppy and crooked. I just stop going to them all together. After 6 months I noticed my payment plan INCREASING in price. I kept calling them over and over, even emailing - no response. I finally called a corp # that was able to get them on the phone - and they said my "insurance changed" and now were charging me double. I said that's insane because no one even notified me of this and I told you BEFORE of my new insurance and you quoted me the price on it - you keep that price. You don't wait 6 months after I've been paying to now increase the amount. It doesn't work that way. Now I'm short on my bill and THEY have been harassing me. Which is interesting considering the fact that they were DUCKING AND DODGING my calls for months Sept 2019- Jan 2020. Do not go here. read more

I spoke with another Dentist for a second opinion and not only did they I didn't need to re-do my root canal like Foothills Smiles told me, but they overcharged for the procedure had I done it. Also, the new Dentist said that $700 for the deep cleaning with insurance is outrageous. Be careful with this place!!! Insurance changed and had to pick a new dentist.We had gone to our previous dentist consistently for years with no dental issues. We choose Foothill Smiles because they're close & in our network. First visit started out pleasant. The dentist and staff were kind and knowledgeable. Then enter the pressure up-sale. Showed us the cost of the basic perio cleaning and some expensive optional work. Told them we'd let them know. Called back and let them know we wanted the basic perio cleaning. Which we were told was an option. They said no, you have to do the perio & SRP ($1000 sealing and root planing).Tried to question this and was told "no". Then she said "have a nice day" & she hung up. I have been coming to Foothills Smile for 10 years and had 6 crowns put in but 7 months ago a new oral hygienist came in. Worst cleaning I ever had, didn't even polish. Almost 2 weeks ago I went in for my exam and teeth cleaning and the hygienist left The front desk girl came in and the hygienist claims you need a deep cleaning and showed me a bill for $1006.00 , I said I just want a regular cleaning. She told me that the hygienist refused a cleaning, her license is on the line. I was humiliated and so no cleaning I just have to leave. Yes said the receptionist. Horrible! Bait and switch as bad as it gets. I went in for a cleaning which is +/- $40 for new patients, maybe a bit more for me since I'd had it done there before. They were trying to charge me $700 for a teeth cleaning. It included some sort of irrigation with a water pick so I could accept a little additional, but in my opinion paying $700 to have my teeth cleaned is ridiculous. I don't usually like to write negative reviews, but I'm hoping my experience can help someone else. It was probably about a year ago that I went here for an exam/cleaning. (I just read an article about unnecessary dental procedures that inspired me to finally review.) Please don't be afraid to say "no" and to go get a second opinion before agreeing to ANY procedure. During my routine exam, I felt pressured into two dental procedures that two other dentist offices have since said are unnecessary. Before this, I had practically perfect teeth, had no pain, and was shocked when the dentist recommended two procedures. I am grateful I had the courage to walk out and go get a second opinion. Let me just say that all of this is only because of Maria, which is super unprofessional. I had my braces put on a year ago and due to financial hardships I could not upkeep the costs, which i owed up to. When I called today to ask what the collection company's name is, she kept saying "I don't know, we just send it to them", and while I ask who "them" is, she stated a 3rd party does the collection. Which is fine, but for her to give me some 800 number where no one can help me, is ridiculous and unprofessional. I'm trying to set up payments for my outstanding balance, and no one is giving me an opportunity to. She said I can pay the full balance, which I currently can't, and I even told her I can make payments which she then declines. Meanwhile, my account in collections is accruing fees, all because of their poor book keeping. I'm not one who brings legal involved, but there is no communication from any collection agency. I will make sure that the next person who's account was sent to collection, knows where their bill is being sent to. Just to brighten Kathleen's day, you are awesome and I wish there were more empathetic and friendly people like you!
