He's very patient with my son and found ways to keep him engaged and interested in piano. I swear I have the only daughters in the world who are so motivated to practice the piano they fight over whose turn it is to practice and get mad when the other person is on the piano too long. I literally break up fights about this. They also practice at least twice a day. Such the opposite experience when I was growing up and my mom fought with us just to get us to practice! Foothills Music Academy is doing something right! My girls love taking piano lessons and love their teacher Miss Mellie. The first year we had a teacher who was nice and the girls liked, but was sort of a dud and they weren't progressing much and it was hard to get them to practice, but after that teacher left, it is amazing the response they have to their beloved piano teacher! Their progress has been substantial and I'm super impressed. I hope she has no plans to leave any time soon! There are two locations, one in Sunland-Tujunga, the other in Montrose. I think the classes are affordable and they have great incentives to practice. Plus, you can sign your kids up to do recitals. My girls really want to do this as well. I recommend Foothill Music Academy highly to anyone who asks where the girls are playing piano and they ask because my girls can't help but play the piano for anyone that walks into our home. Foothills's Music Academy is where my son and daughter first started learning piano when they were 5 years old with Aldo. My son has learned how to play classical pieces such as Mozart's Turkish March, Beethoven's Fur Elise, and has even gotten into composing his own songs! My daughter just started and sang and played the piano with Aldo assisting on his guitar. We were so proud to see her confident and happy on stage. We absolutely love the recitals that Samantha puts on and the fact that she goes above and beyond to take beautiful photos of the participants and put them in nice folders for us. We love that the recitals are held in a beautiful and comfortable church venue and it is just amazing to watch all the performers and know that my children are gaining invaluable experience in stage. Unfortunately we had to move away to Illinois and stop our lessons. It took me weeks of research to find a new music school for my kids near our home because I had such high standards to compare to. My son began music lessons at the Sunland location based on a recommendation from a friend. When this location opened in La Crescenta, I switched him over since it is so much closer to where we live. Fernanda is his teacher and he has made great progress. He's been taking piano lessons for about seven months now and it is starting to click! I appreciate how Sarah, the owner, strides to make Foothills Music Academy a place that caters to children. Under someone else's tutelage, piano lessons could be boring to a six-year-old child. I really appreciate the effort to make it fun and engaging. I also appreciate how accommodating Sarah has been with our schedule. There have been times when we've had to miss a lesson but we have always been able to make it up later without too much trouble. read more

Our son has been attending Foothills Music Academy for three and a half years and we feel Ms. Fernanda, his piano teacher, has been absolutely fantastic both musically and personally. She is patient, kind and very talented. The school is very accommodating with schedule changes requests and is reasonably priced. We have really enjoyed the opportunity our son has had to participate in recitals at least a couple of times per year, which has helped to boost his confidence. We LOVE Foothills Music Academy. They helped my son blossom & feel great about himself. My son felt shy and unsure. I was looking for something that would help him build self confidence and that he could enjoy. This wonderful music program was right on target! Credit also to their amazing teachers Tamara is absolutely terrific. My son looks forward to every lesson, he even feels brave enough to sing in front of others. This wonderful teacher found what my son loves (right now it's Jurassic Park) and used the music from the movie to help him stay consistent with his practice. My daughter has been taking piano lessons here for a couple of years now, and we have been very happy. The director, Sarah, has been very accommodating, making sure that we are satisfied. We started with one instructor and were nervous about being placed with someone else when she left to pursue playing music full time. Fortunately ( after a short adjustment period) we are just as happy with her new instructor. Atla is patient and kind, instructing to my daughters strengths and helping her find joy, knowledge and confidence in playing. I would definitely recommend to others in the area. read more

My daughter has taken piano lessons at both the Sunland and La Crescenta location, and several of her friends are also students. Her first teacher was an excellent beginner instructor, and her current teacher Faye is helping her master some more advanced technical skills on the keyboard. The students are allowed to learn the pieces they love instead of sticking to a traditional program. I have never had any problem rescheduling a lesson even when I've had to cancel at the last minute. read more

We are so happy with our experience at Foothills Music Academy. Our son had been with his original beginning piano teacher for five years. When the time came to find an intermediate/advanced teacher we began researching and visiting different teachers and schools. After his trial lesson at FMA, our son instantly connected with Tamara, and we loved Sarah. The school's policies are so reasonable and they are able to accommodate our (sometimes) crazy schedule. Our son is progressing at a more rapid pace and he enjoys and looks forward to his lesson. We have recommend the school to numerous friends and schoolmates. They take your money in advance but if you have an emergency and you call a few hours before the class to reschedule they refuse to do it.
