My step-daughter is in fifth grade here and has been since kindergarten. My wife has two older…read morechildren who attended here and she raves about the school, I am not impressed however. My step-son is brilliant but undisciplined and he was allowed to "graduate" sixth grade without doing any work at all and only getting "1's" and "2's" his whole career there. My oldest step-child would've succeeded anywhere anyhow and still does..... My fifth grade daughter has had much the same experience as my son until this year. This year I've been heavily involved and her teacher is very communicative and the difference has been huge. The school goes on wonderful field trips in every grade. The music program is awesome, my daughter has class for 30min 3x's/week and is learning quickly. The office staff are typically rude. The parking lot ( pickup / drop off ) is well managed and there is a great focus on child safety and using crosswalks. There's also a crossing guard and a " lighted?" Crosswalk just for school goers. P.E. is not a large focus but I believe funding is gone for health at most elementry schools. The children do have a large field, two playgrounds, ball courts, basketball courts and a basebal / kickball backstop. The surrounding area is typical for the city except that there is an outpatient psychiatric facility about 1 mile up mission avenue. There are people often in the area that " act weird " but I've heard of nothing harmful from them. I would rather my daughter been in a different school for all previous years but I am happy with her, her teacher and myself right. I wouldn't choose to enroll another child in this school but I'm alright with my daughter finishing out this year there.

The teacher did not put the attention and dedication a teacher is responsible for, consequently leaving my daughter struggling even more than she was before. I was finally able to put my daughter in Deterding Elementary. Mrs. Morganstern was an Angel in disguise. She immediately recognized my daughter frustration and how behind she was in her academics. She met with me and developed a plan for my daughter success. She and other teachers organized an after school tutoring program for kids like my daughter to get that extra help they needed. I couldn't believe the dedication and care these teachers like Mrs. Morganstern genuinely give to their students. Which made a seriously negative impact on my child. If you are not Russian, you are treated as an outsider by both students and staff. Let me be clear this school caters exclusively to Russian families only, and others are neither welcomed nor supported. We removed our son because the environment was toxic and harmful. I would strongly caution non-Russian families against enrolling their children here

The students don't want you there, the staff don't want you there, the admin don't want you there and they will make it very uncomfortable for you to be there until you leave. Most of the employees do not speak English and they are very hostile to students that don't speak Russian. Your student will be isolated and singled out in every situation. Thats as clear as I can say it, they want the school to stay majority Slavic (entirely Slavic if they can) and if you are not Slavic you are not welcome. They can't legally keep you from enrolling but they will make it very clear you're unwanted until you leave.

It may be in a "yuppie" area, but BV accepts all kinds equally and fairly! I'm not saying kids didn't get picked on (cuz I know I did) but I feel at least when I went there, it wasn't so cliquey, so yes the cheerleaders hung out w/ the jocks, but that's h.s.) but the class of '99 & 2000 were very close and I feel we were a good group :) Academically we rocked as well as our band....sports...ehhh, not so much lol I had some favorite teacher's. Miller, Mr. Waugh, Mr. Gould Mrs. Yost, Mr. Fischer, and Mrs. Rose were all awesome!! Good memories!!!!

Old, OSHA violations in the cafeteria & stage, bland, food that is very easily the worst out of any school I've ever seen, unappealing visuals, confusing layout, unregulated racism and bigotry among students, and a lack of school spirit. The school staff are alright, not bad. Generally helpful. Some have passion. Don't take the painting class, the teacher is notoriously rude and unhelpful. It gets the job done, but if you're looking to move to the Sacramento area, I would consider looking into adjacent cities with better schools.

The other kid did not get suspended they made up false allegations say her face was broke blah blah blah the kid is at the school the following day. I graduated from this high school in 2012…read more It was a great school! The campus was nice. Sometime in sophomore year, they built a new gym which was dedicated to one of the coaches. They also built a new library sometime in my junior year. Both places were pretty nice. I loved all of my teachers (I was in Special Ed, but I took some General Ed classes)! The staff there were also very friendly as well. The reason I chose this school was because my old friends wanted to go there, but I made new friends there too. My absolute favorite teachers were Mrs. Lorge, Mr. Kaul, and Ms. Uno. Sadly, the latter two retired after I graduated, but they were very awesome! I enjoyed spending my four years at this school.

Mr Melvin Stitt the Principal fully backed Mr Ferkovich and yelled at parents to fix their kid. We had time out boxes when kids were being jerks at recess because shaming was a way of life, not shunned like the other commenter positioned. If your kid is a jerk the sooner the world knows the better. Then maybe your kid will fix their selfish attitude and become a proper member of society. Always know this; sometimes your kid is the problem.

Some kids will try and convince the other kids to swear and disobey and all the teachers do is have them miss out on a recess. Nothing really changes. One thing that really bothers me is one of the teachers there made a student write a letter about lying to their parents because the student forgot a paper, the teacher shamed them for forgetting one piece of paper. The proper way to discipline children is not the shame them.
