I wanted to wait a full year from my wisdom teeth extraction before committing to a review of Dr. Christopher Chan. But after a full year with no complications whatsoever, I can very confidently say that Dr. Chan is an amazing oromaxillary surgeon. I was referred to Dr. Chan by my dentist for extraction of all 4 of my wisdom teeth. When I went to the office, the staff were very pleasant. Dr. Chan had amazing bedside manner. Many physicians and dentists can be very strict and intimidating when it comes to healthcare, and I was definitely nervous as I haven't been taking very good care of my teeth. But Dr. Chan was incredibly supportive. He was objective, told me what he needed to, and explained all the risks/benefits/alternatives in great detail. Any surgery has a potential risk of side effects and complications, and wisdom teeth extraction is no different. I had read about the most common complications of wisdom teeth extraction (e.g. dry socket, swelling, pain), and I was definitely a bit scared. But I knew, for the long term well being of my teeth, this was a necessary procedure. On the day of the procedure itself, my mom was my designated driver, as I would be under moderate sedation with Versed. The nurse who started my IV was very nice, she also put a blanket on me as I felt a bit cold in the office. Dr. Chan was very nice also. Once I got the IV push of Versed I was completely out, and then I woke up with gauze in my mouth and an ice pack wrapped around my jaw. I had no swelling, no dry socket, and minimal pain that was easily controlled with Tylenol. Some of my colleagues said it didn't even look like I had any surgery done. As someone who is on the older side to get this procedure, to recover in such a straightforward manner is just proof of Dr. Chan's technique. i had to take three impacted wisdom teeth out, with the bottom two growing out horizontally. i am happy i chose dr. chan for this surgery. after hearing the horror stories of wisdom teeth (extreme swelling and pain, not eating solid foods for days), i was nervous to get it out. but during our consultation, he reassured me that this is routine for him and i would heal easily, making me feel more at ease. the extraction was fast and the rest of the staff was kind. i'm on day three now and i only have slight swelling on my right side. i had minor discomfort on the first day, but i didn't have to take any pain medication. i was also able to eat solid food by day two. i recommend dr. chan if you need to take your wisdom teeth out! read more

UNACCEPTABLE. I just learned that they use narcotics - fentanyl and ketamine in deep sedation during surgery. Dr Chan failed to inform or disclose the class or type of drugs to me before the surgery. When I found out the receptionist Adriane refused to coordinate a call for Dr Chan to call me back to explain or answer my questions. She is rude and unreasonable. Believe this is straight up medical negligence and breach of consent. I am looking to file a formal complaint through the Dental Board of California. read more

Front office and dental staff were very nice and thorough, they were able to get me into surgery within a week after coordinating with my regular dental office. All 4 wisdom teeth (2 impacted) were extracted with little to no swelling, I was so ecstatic! HOWEVER While most everything leading up to the procedure was positive, I did get a weird vibe from my surgeon when explaining my extensive medical history and medication during our consultation. Not only did this make me feel bad, it ended up with me in a hospital bed within a week. His demeanor felt less inquisitive or curious, and increasingly more judgmental as the conclusion went on. Nothing that I'm not used to, as I'm chronically ill and consistently speaking to medical professionals that dismiss me because I'm on the younger side and am not visibly disabled. And while going through my list of current medications and why I paused for a moment and said "um" and paused for 1.5 sec in the middle rattling them off without reference, as it's a list of 10+ pills with coordinating ailments that I want to confirm accurately; not only did he scoff at me and look at me with the loudest side eye, he came back laughing with a "you really don't even know what this is for or why you're taking it?" in a tone that genuinely shocked me. Coming from a medical professional even after years of receiving this type of behavior, this encounter felt particularly ripe with judgement and I could not understand why. However, when I voiced my concern about my recovery prescriptions conflicting with my current prescriptions and elaborating on my medical history he scoffed again and dismissed me in a condescending tone, saying that it's such a low dose that it won't effect me. He told me to take them anyway, reassuring me that he knows better and that it's not an issue to be concerned about because I'm still young. My emergency contact picking me up from the surgery was getting the recovery rundown while I was still under anesthesia and also had red flags arise with this recovery medication. He also expressed concern with me being on this medication and why, they relayed that the surgeon is aware of my condition and instructed me to take them anyway.. fast forward a week and I'm in the ER for extreme abdominal pain and severe gastritis specifically because of this medication I was instructed to take regardless of voicing this specific concern multiple times.. This was not only reckless and unprofessional, but extremely dangerous, exceptionally painful and extensively damaging. My GI specialist was absolutely dumbfounded as to why this dental surgeon would prescribe this medication to me after we brought up my concerns about it multiple times. There is no excuse for this behavior, and even though the surgery went fairly well absolutely nothing will excuse the unprofessionalism and additional pain and suffering this has caused. This wasn't an accident, this was hubris. Wish I could recommend, but sadly I won't be back. read more

Last Monday I experienced a toothache on my bottom left wisdom tooth (tooth decay galore). Went to my local dentist on Wednesday and scheduled surgery for the next Friday. Upon reviewing my X-rays their surgeon determined I need to go to an outside surgeon. And my search began. I called L, T & S that Thursday afternoon and scheduled my appointment for Tuesday @ 8am. To my delight they said that due to covid they are consolidating their consultation/exam and will most likely be able to do the surgery on the same day. Win win. Every other oral surgeon I called (in the local area, San Fernando Valley) was available for an EXAM starting Friday 3/5. I would still be in pain and still waiting: because then after the exam they would schedule surgery 1-2 weeks out. My lovely aunt recommended them because my other family members have gone in the past and had great experiences. I saw on their website they work with "Care Credit" which I had never heard of before. I got approved and brought my print out for CC and the lovely ladies in the office were able to take care of it. I was ready to start surgery at 8:35am and by 9:10am I was done and waking up out of anesthesia. When Dr. Lytle told me he would be done within 20 minutes I just thought, wow you are confident and have a strong presence like you know what you are doing. I am in good hands!! $2950 later and I'm recovering nicely. The numbness in my bottom lip and chin started to wear off after 13 hours or so, and now I'm just taking it easy. Context: All four of my wisdom teeth popped through when I was about 16 and I was careless with my dental hygiene so warning to all of those out there - take care of your teeth! I'm almost 28 now and I was told about 3 years ago these suckers have cavities on the sides and will need to come out someday soon. I'll be going on a regular basis to do cleanings and handle some more cavities. I went to Dr Chan to get a 3rd opinion on my sons extra tooth that needed to be extracted. What can usually be a more simple procedure wasnt for us because a family history of malignant hypothermia. Dr Chan is the very first dr that was very knowledgeable about MH. The others dr just didn't know much about the condition. I've heard a lot of "what's?" for taking all four at once. It seems many doctors want to split the surgery in two. Sounds like a money making scheme. My son was brave enough to do all four. Dr Chan was confident and positive in all aspects. It took thirty minutes. My son's recovery was very quick. In two days he was eating solids again. The short story: Dr. Stamper and his staff are great! If you need an oral surgeon, I highly recommend Dr. Stamper and his practice. Everyone I met and talked with were helpful and courteous. In these COVID-19 times, this practice conducts a number of measures to ensure everyone's safety, such as: patients are to take a COVID-19 test with a negative result no more than four days before entering the office; waiting room is closed; temperature checks; air purifiers; lots of cleaning; masks on until patients need to remove them. The detailed story: My tooth extraction and bone grafting for a dental implant journey was one that had me incredulous, terrified, reassured, comforted, cared for, and blessed. When I saw my dentist for my biannual appointment, I didn't feel any pain, discomfort, or anything out of the ordinary, so I was shocked when he showed me my x-ray, revealing an infection to one of my upper right molars and a small space between one of the roots and what was either bone or gum. After a consultation with an endodontist who thought my molar could be saved, he performed what would have been the first of a two-part root canal, which proved otherwise when he saw one of the roots was broken. My dentist referred me to Dr. Stamper for the extraction and dental implant. I was terrified, as what was going on in my mind seemed to be in scary movie proportions. My dentist assured me that I was in good hands with Dr. Stamper, and he was right. When I had my consultation, Dr. Stamper and his staff were professional and empathetic. I was upfront about my anxiety, and Dr. Stamper treated me with consideration and good chair-side manner. Dr. Stamper reviewed the x-ray from my dentist, examined my tooth, and told me what he saw. He described the extraction process, which sounded straightforward, and told me that he could remove my molar right then and there. I wasn't ready, so we scheduled the procedure for the following week. Candace (sp?), the nurse that was with me for both procedures, went over the pre-op, post-op, financial, and insurance information. The day of the extraction went as they described. Even though Dr. Stamper initially gave me the option of sedation because I might "like him better" (although thinking back, they might have liked me better if I was sedated), I went with Novocaine and the procedure wasn't anything like what I imagined. During the extraction: I asked to be told what was going on, but I didn't want to see anything, to which they complied; I wanted to keep my tooth, which Candace cleaned and bagged for me; and my left hand was trying to grab onto something during the extraction, and Candace held my hand until she needed both of her hands to do her work. A month later was my bone graft procedure. What was initially to be a 30 minute procedure ended up being longer because when I was being prepped, Dr. Stamper saw a mass on my lower right jawbone when reviewing the panoramic x-ray taken by Grace, the x-ray technician. Until Dr. Stamper examined it, I was not aware that I had a cyst. After discussing and deciding to have Dr. Stamper remove the cyst, both procedures were done that morning. The evenings of both procedures, Dr. Stamper called to see how I was doing and if I had any issues. I had no pain and didn't need any pain medication. At the end of both procedures, Candace supplied me with ice packs, and after the second procedure, provided a face wrap to hold the ice to the side of my face to help lessen the swelling, and with cotton squares for any bleeding. The day after my bone graft and cyst removal, Dr. Stamper's office called me about coming in to see him that afternoon so he could see how I was healing. The following Tuesday, I received Dr. Stamper's call with the biopsy results, a benign lipoma. Although benign, Dr. Stamper recommended another test by a pathology lab since the lipoma was found on my jawbone, an unusual place for it to have developed. Nine days later, Dr. Stamper called with good news that the pathology report showed it was benign. The day after was my appointment with Dr. Stamper to examine how I was healing ("like a champ," he told me). He expressed his relief of the benign test result. I am blessed and grateful that Dr. Stamper caught the cyst, was proactive in removing it and getting it tested, and ruling out any possibility for concern. Lisa, the implant coordinator, will be contacting me for my next appointment towards the implant process. There's more work to be done, and although it's been nowhere near as terrifying as what was once in my head, I am comforted and assured that the next steps will continue with the same wonderful care from Dr. Stamper and his staff. read more

Needed to get all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. Searched around for what worked with my insurance (Delta Dental), saw good reviews here and for Christopher Chan. Called here and to a few other places, Foothill Center had the soonest appointments and the receptionists were delightful to talk to so I decided to come on in. Came in about a week later for a quick consultation, I'm in and out in about 20 minutes, all paperwork and all done and complete, we make an appointment for two weeks later for the surgery. Surgery day I come in, I'm seated, 10 minutes later I'm knocked out and surgery has started. Wake up and everything is perfect. No pain after getting the extraction with 3 bony impacts (One tooth covered by gum still) and one regularly growing tooth. First day and I felt no issue, bleeding subsided within the first two hours. Second day and I feel perfectly normal. I'll update if anything changes, but I imagine this was just an example of a great doctor doing a great job. All the nurses were great to talk to, prescription was sent over immediately to my pharmacist. Got a cute pamphlet with post-op things for me to keep in mind and Christopher Chan even gives out a number where I could call to ask any questions. I was referred to Dr Chan by my dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed. First appointment, the consultation, was a simple xray and discussion of what the extraction would be like and details like whether sedation should be used. The day of the extraction I was nervous about being sedated because I've never been put under before, but the nurses kept me calm and quickly got me hooked up to the monitors etc. I was watching the clock after they administered the sedative and it basically jumped from 12:05PM to 12:24PM and suddenly there was gauze in my mouth. There was no pain and I was hardly drugged, able to walk on my own although they did walk me out out of caution. 4 days later still no pain or discomfort, not even taking the prescribed ibuprofen because it would be pointless. read more

I called when the office opened at eight and spoke to Maurne who gave me an emergency appointment for 9 to take X-rays. I had to come back at 11 for the procedure since I had eaten earlier and was done so quickly it felt like I blinked. Dr Chan was knowledgeable, took time to answer all my questions and had a great sense of humor (direly needed since I'd been in pain for about 4 days). Why I left this dental practice: In late Dec. 2021 I met with Dr. Stamper to discuss a tooth extraction and subsequent implant. I waited over an hour for a 10 minute consultaton ($195). On Jan. 31, 2022, Stamper attempts to pull my bad tooth, but fails and says I need orat surgery at an estimated cost of $2,850. The surgery was scheduled for early March, but I then needed emergency surgery, so in April I tried to reschedule , but was told Stamper was retiring at the end of May, so I decided to see another dentist. When I saw the new dentist, he heard my story and said, "would you like me to try to pull your tooth?" I said sure and within 15 minutes he had it out with minimal discomfort on my part. He explained that he split the tooth and extracted each root separately. Fee was $350. He also quoted a much lower fee for the implant process. My questions for Stamper are: Why did you take me as a patient if you knew you were in the process of selling your practice and retiring? You should have informed me at the very least that you wouldn't be around for the implant process. Why didn't you split my tooth rather than suggest oral surgery at a much higher cost to me? All I can say to those of you reading this review is . . . Caveat Emptor! read more

Total quote actually came out to over $3000 when it came back from the insurance company. This is not including the consultation and X-Ray charges. They offered me a 10% discount like it even puts a dent into a $3200 surgery. I opted out of going with this oral surgeon. They charged me $199 for my consultation and Panorec X-ray. $10 of the $199 is to pay for a black and white print on photo paper for a copy of the X-ray and to mail it to you. No wonder he personally gives you a follow up call and thanks you for letting charging you up the arse. read more

I received , the upmost professional care by Dr. Christopher Chan. I needed to have two impacted molars extracted. Dr Chan, consulted with me prior to the procedure. He, is friendly and shows authentic concern and patience ( for questions or concerns) . I let him know of my health issues ( I feel responsible to do so ) it's my job, not drs. Consent forms and instructions , and schedules d for my procedure. The nurse led me into the treatment room. I , was put on monitor for vitals. The nurse was reassuring , as I had anesthesia administered after, ( with my pre surgery permission) they gave general reminders , about after care to my family member Picking up. I was out of it , the nurse helped me to the car ( after resting in their recovery room) where I laid down, for a few mins. The nurses , called my relative ( pickup person) and helped me to the car. She , then gave me a black bag , filled with gauze, two soft toothbrushes, after care reminders and directions. And sterile ( wrapped) syringe ( directions on the syringe) for proper use. Flier with office numbers , and further aftercare directions.( I was impressed with the take home care items.) And , of course , on the way home we stopped to pick up antibiotics , and mouthwash.( both very important! ) . I was so happy with the care Dr.Chan provided, he called back , immediately and I was seen in his office shortly after. Dr.chan examined my mouth , and suctioned ( around sockets ) and reassured me I was healing well. No, infection, and no dry socket.( a little food debri , possibly ( I apologized for being overly cautious. He , told me it's not a problem, if I had any concerns or questions not to hesitate to ask. I just had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I was so nervous to do it and kept holding back. Dr.Lytle and his staff were so sweet and made me feel so comfortable. Dr. John Lytle and his team were amazing! I had gone in to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. I was very nervous and scared as many people had told me it would be very painful and it would take many days to heal (and of course the side effects of laughing gas). However with Dr. Lytle the operation was seamless. I had pain maybe for a few hours and I was fine within that same evening. My brother has gotten his wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Lytle as well and my parents were very happy with the service and results provided by Dr. Lytle and his team. read more

If dds lytle has prior engagements. You shouldn't be take appointments for new patient same day of an emergency. Not to mention running behind. I generally don't right reviews but I felt obligated to do so because I believe it is important to share my experience with people like me who at some point may be looking to learn about other people's experience before hiring an oral surgeon. I chose Dr. John Lytle because of his credentials; little that I knew that my experience would be my worst nightmare. I had the first extraction under sedation, I woke up with extreme pain that I was screaming; I thought I would faint from pain. I have had other extractions in previous years, but I never experienced anything like this. I left the office with a horrible pain. Right before the procedure, they charged my credit card for over $2,000.00 because the plan was to do an implant; but due to infection that was not possible. A week before that I addressed my concern regarding infection to Dr. Lytle but he dismissed it and stated "he is not concerned about it". But after extraction he realized the implant was not an option. It took over a month and half before I receive partial reimbursement from his office, while I was paying interest on my credit card for charges that should not have been made. To date they still owe $690.00. Then, on July 26, 2021, I had another extraction. My appointment was at 3 p.m. but I wasn't seen by Dr. John Lytle until 4 p.m., he gave me a numbing injection without putting topical to numb the injection area, and was gone for another 30 minutes, while seeing other patients. He was usually in and out of the room, he was very short and dismissive. When he came back, since I wasn't fully numbed, he gave me more numbing injection without topical numbing, wrote a prescription and without confirming that I am completely numb, he proceeded with the extraction. It appeared to me that he just wanted to get it done and be out of there. Unfortunately, I wasn't fully numbed, I told him that, but he said I will feel "a lot of pressure", but I was feeling the pain from the extraction and was making noises and hand gestures, while he was trying to pull my tooth out. He kept saying it's almost done.... while I was feeling the pain of extraction. Once it was done, all he said was, "you are good sport". I was in so much pain and couldn't believe what had just happened; before he left the room, he called his staff to bring me a pain medication so I can take it with water. His assistant may have been new as it appeared that he was frustrated with her. From the pain my body was exhausted and in the early hours of the next day, I ended up being transferred by ambulance to ER. I had an awful experience with Dr. John Lytle and his office. read more

I was afraid of the nerves I had running very close to the roots of my teeth, horrified that I might become permanently numb somewhere as a result. Dr. Stamper looked at me calmly, and honestly and sternly said the difficulty of these extractions were, from a 1-10 scale, a 12. But he was confident in his ability. Four of my wisdom teeth were extracted yesterday. I wasn't even aware we were starting, and before I knew it, I was waking up with the surgery complete. It is now the next day and after following the post-op instructions, I am feeling no numbness, no pain. read more

I was completely in fear when getting my two wisdom tooth extracted. The horror stories and people telling me how much pain I would be in. However, my experience was far from all the horror stories and beyond anything close to a bad experience. I had an early appointment since I wasn't able to eat prior to the procedure. The staff was extremely friendly and very sweet. Dr. Stamper did the procedure. He was very professional and dude is good. I literally was talking one minute knocked out and felt like I was asleep for 10 mins didn't feel a thing. There was anesthesia that relieved the pain, but even after it wore off I didn't even need the pain killers. Dr. Stamper even made a follow up call to make sure I was doing okay, which I thought was pretty amazing. I've been to enough dentist throughout my life so far and this office exceeds expectations. I was recommended to this facility through two of my friends that also had the same procedure but with Dr. Lytle. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good place to get their tooth extracted. read more

I had nightmares about taking my wisdom teeth out...I dreamt that my wisdom teeth were being used to be transplanted into some other guy's mouth! Reality hit, and I was welcomed by the calm, peaceful atmosphere of the office. Consultation? Check. Valium and instructions for the procedure? Check. Questions answered? Check. I came in a 9:45am for my procedure, stepped into my chair at 10:00am, and was done by 10:30am. Just like that. No pain. No knock out, but plenty of anesthesia. I had no idea they had already pulled out all 4 teeth. They're good like that. Dr. Stamper's office was warm, cordial, and accomodating. My procedure? Like cake. I went back to work at 2pm for a meeting on the same day without any drowsiness. I am so happy with my experience, the staff, and would strongly recommend Dr. Stamper and his office to anyone getting any teeth extractions. ***EDIT: Later that night of my surgery, Dr. Stamper himself called to check up on me.
