I came here on a gift card from the chains of stores I received as a late Christmas present from family. Very impressed with the quality of the produce, which is even better than the place I usually get my produce and that people seem to think has the best produce, although the prices were quite a bit higher than my usual place. The store made pasta salad and potato salad tasted much better than my usual brands of these products. The bakery, however, were both significantly better in both quality and price compared to where I usually buy them, the price of the rye bread I got was a full loaf for a little less than a half loaf at my usual store. The mini strudels were full of flavour and flaky in a nice tasting sort of manner. The store is tight for space and it only uses mini shopping carts and baskets, but that prevents you from blowing your budget and not being able to take home your groceries on transit. It is one of the few store chains that still carries regular lemonade soda in 2 liter bottles. Good prices on tidy cats small container cat litter. The staff were amazing from welcoming in to the store to giving you a cart to check out and packing to take home; the cashier Zina did an amazing job being friendly and extremely professional at the same time. Really more of a 4.5 rating, the tight for space is really the only issue and for those that drive, there is little parking available. (I don't drive) I am likely coming back sometime soon when I am down in Toronto's Greektown, which I sometimes am at the library or Dollarama near there, this place may become a regular visit when I am in the area. One of the prepackaged meals leaked on my pants after I picked it up. I told the cashier and she behaved as though she hadn't heard me. I told someone who looked like a stock boy (but I have no idea whether he was or not), and he told me "too bad, don't shop here if you don't want to". I left in a bit of a daze after being treated this way. I've been going to this Foodland for seven years, and nothing like this has ever happened. I went back after less than a minute to find the person who I spoke with, and he told me to "fuck off and get out". This was in the back room (there were no signs saying staff only). So there were not a lot of witnesses, but with there were a couple. And I'm sure anyone who heard would be too terrified of losing their job to say anything read more

I was in the neighbourhood and the LUSH basil pots sitting outside the store drew me in. This Slegers branded basil I've picked up here is organic and in a square container. It's so full and lush compared to what I see at garden centres and only for $1 more ($5). *TIP* Be sure to check indoors when you pick up the basil plant because *I think* it's better quality for the same price. The Slegers brand only found indoors is labelled organic, while the ones outside have no labels. It's also grown in a courser quality medium that looks like chopped mealworms, while the unbranded pots outside are in a traditional peat medium. I also picked up a bucket of Shaw's French Vanilla Ice Cream for home. I enjoy my quick trip at Foodland. The prices are reasonable, and they carry some unique brands I rarely see in grocery shops I typically shop. read more

There is a lot of rude middle aged men working there. I see how they treat their staff. I've witnessed 2 men on separate occasions yelling at another staff member. These same two seem to find the customers a nuisance. The latest younger staff is who I go to if I have a question. I now only go there out of necessity, usually because its open later then other stores in neighbourhood. I live around the area and always do my shopping at Foodland on Danforth. On Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., I bought a chicken wrap. By 6:00 p.m., I started experiencing stomach pain and diarrhea. Today, while I was shopping, I decided to bring it to the attention of the store. However, the manager in the deli department was not polite at all. If I could give this place less than one star, I'd be all over it. I'm so angry at the way I was treated, I will never step foot in there again. And it wasn't even the exorbitant prices that put me over the edge, it was peaches! The customer is certainly not right in this place. They seriously do not give a crap about the customer. I've heard this from a few friends, but it's my walk to neighborhood grocer so I visited, seriously 4 or 5 times a week. It's always bugged me that they wrap their fruit and vegetables in plastic wrap so you can't just buy one zucchini for example, you have to buy 3. So I dropped in yesterday to grab Ontario peaches but I could only find containers with like 15 peaches. So I asked the guy stocking shelves if the had any loose by the pound. He waves his arm at the USA ones and says no, just buy those. I don't want those, geez. So I asked the manager if he could just open one of the packs, I came in just for Ontario peaches but I only want a couple, not a dozen. He goes, no, we won't have any available by the pound until Friday. I'm like, you have some RIGHT THERE! You can't open that and sell me 3? Apparently not. Ridiculous. I spent ALOT of money in there. If taking an advertising flyer into a store and then being told, repeatedly 'No, we don't care that, or anything like that' is your thing, then THIS is the store for you. It's not so much that I often go in looking for thigns they have advertised as much as it's the reaction from employees. Typically there are 2 different responses. 1: "No, we never carry anything like that here" - spoken with a tone that implies 'come on man, were you REALLY expecting us to have that?' 2: A look of utter confusion by employees that not only seem flumoxed the items I'm asking about but actual obliviousness to the fact that the store even HAS a flyer. At this point, I only go in once a week, just to confirm that the 2 or 3 things I've seen in the flyer that I want, will NOT be inn the store. I'm batting a thousand so far and I doubt that will change any time soon. read more

I'm not the only reviewer to post this NO social distancing between customers inside even tho they do regulate customers coming into store there's NO regulation in store or at check out...they just want your money and for you to leave! Unsafe COVID 19 precautions that introduce risk. A staff member forces you to take a cart when you enter the store, even if you are only in to buy one item. The reasoning? To track how many customers are in the store... I think counting customers would be a better solution than forcing a cart on them (especially one that may not even be properly sanitized). read more

A few years ago I wrote a really positive review for this grocery store. During the pandemic I would shop here and I had some really great experiences with both the managers and the staff. I actually gave this place a 5 star review. Well guess what? I'm changing it to a 1 star. That's how terrible this store has gotten! Lately, like the last year or so, not only have the prices in this store sky-rocketed, but the customer service has gone straight into the toilet. So much so, that I boycotting this store. After shopping here for more than 10 years, I'm completely dismayed at how a cashier spoke to me the other day. I brought an item to the cash and then realized it was the wrong price after seeing my receipt. I said, "Excuse me I think this is the wrong price." To which the cashier replied in her sauciest tone, "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I explained that I didn't know the price was wrong in the system till I saw my receipt. She then gave me a 2 min lecture that it was my fault and I should speak up sooner. Can you believe the balls on this lady? Part of me wants to applaud her for having that much confidence. In her training at what point did they tell her to berate customers for the mistakes of the store? Clearly, she needs to be working in public office. Her bitchiness is wasted on this place. Under the new ownership this store really hit rock bottom. Nothing really interesting, or fresh or different. I don't shop there anymore, but realise that many people that do don't have option. The prices are really up so there is not reason for me to buy this kind of products, totally overpriced when we have so many fresh vegetables and fruits on various fruit Stores on Pape/Danforth and Logan/Danforth. I go there more than once a week, this place has what I need. For this, I give it two stars because...... The staff are neither friendly nor non-friendly, they are just there, if you know what I mean. Today, there was a street person in the store who was eating straight out of the olive bar - putting his hands down into the oil to scoop out the olives. There's a ton of places to buy groceries on the Danforth, but I've found the Pape Market Foodland (IGA) to be a good place to get the basics. Their prices are reasonable and they have good specials. One caveat - their milk is pretty expensive. I'd recommend going a block or two away and hitting up the Shoppers Drug Mart for that. read more

This is a small store and it is really hard to social-distance. I think it has had an affect on staff. They used to be really friendly and now they are either glum or downright rude. The last time I was there I caught Hell from a staffer for leaving my cart and walking down an aisle. The store rules for social distancing are that you NEVER leave your cart, he said, although no one tells you that upon entering the store. Fair prices for the quality of goods. Fruits and veggies the best on the Danforth. Respectful staff and helpful service. I love what they have done with the place since the IGA days. Inventory really skewed to the neighborhood. Huge selection of dairy-free products also for those of us who are lactose-intolerant or vegan. If you see a woman standing in the aisle and swearing at the shelves, that's me. I've lived in this neighbourhood for more than 10 years, and been shopping at this store during this entire time. It's never been a great store. They have always stocked plenty of low-end, low quality lines. Their produce has never been very attractive, even at the height of Ontario's growing season. However, prior to a few years ago, it had a nice, neighbourhood feeling and there were a few good products you could count on, like the excellent home-made roast potatoes and vegetables. The new management thinks that they have made it "nicer." I will grant that they have added a few interesting items. However, the store is now packed to the ceiling with Compliments and Sensations products, to the point that brand-name stuff has been removed. There are a few good Compliments/Sensations items, but most of them are inferior. For example, their basic chicken stock has about 2X the sodium as the other brands, but they stopped selling the Pacific line to make room for the crappy Compliments one. The cheese section has more space given to Compliments pre-sliced cheese than it does to any interesting varieties. They reluctantly sell a few loaves of Ace bread, because it will interfere with their higher margin crap. I have a particular loathing for the changes they have made to the produce section. They actually shrunk it, apparently to make way for more ready-made, high margin items. They don't stock Spanish onions any more. What kind of grocery store doesn't have Spanish onions? They have also started packaging almost all of the vegetables, from beans to turnips to small hot peppers. So, I basically hate this store now. I shop here for basic things because it's a few minutes from my house, but recently I have been going out of my way to purchase items I just can't get here. I agree with the comment below that says it's very white-bread and suburban now. I think it's actually worse than that; it has more of a convenience store feel. By the way, I love the staff. I've been shopping at this store since before the new owners came in about five years ago and absolutely love it, and all of the new changes including the renovations! Some history: it was a dump before they took over. The food quality was suffering, it wasn't the cleanest and I would only pick up non-perishable food items and basics. Today, this is my favourite shop in the neighbourhood! The high quality of products - from the produce to the meats and selection of grocery - is on-par with a specialty shop and much larger store. They do a great job at merchandising and it's rare that I can't find what I need and then some. The neighbourhood and the community has changed, and it's about time a retailer like this came around. If it's too expensive, don't shop there. Go to a less expensive store like a No Frills or Food Basics but don't expect to get the same quality of food as you would at Pape Foodland. It just won't happen. You wouldn't walk into a Loblaws and expect No Frills prices... Extremely disagree with the comments by Mariu M. because since the new owners took over, the food is fresher, more unique and far more interesting (zucchini noodles, anyone?!) and the store is way cleaner than ever before so perhaps Mariu M. has a bone to pick... I also don't agree with the comments from others surrounding the manager. He has been more than helpful and friendly with me and all of my neighbours who shop at this store. If you want to shop for food at Shopper's Drug Mart ("drug-mart" being the operative word) go for it, but I'd rather buy my food from someone who is an expert in the food business, and these owners are experts! Favourite features: fresh, organic, unique products, attention to detail and quality, clean and organized store, conveniently located and they do grocery delivery. Cons: some of the stupid people that the staff and owners have to deal with that come into the store. It's mind boggling. Witnessed this a few times while shopping and I have to say, I don't think I would be able to handle people trying to return half-eaten jars of peanut butter or chips that they didn't consume at a party, demanding a refund. For years, I would pass this store daily on my morning Prancercise™. Each time, without fail, I would ask myself, "Footland? Who names a grocery store Footland?" Well, the answer to that question is, "No one, that's who names a grocery store Footland." Ever since I switched up my Prancercise™ route I no longer pass the store at full Prancercise™ trot. At walking speed and without the cognitive load of Prancercise™, I am somewhat better at noticing. Long story short, I noticed the store is called "Foodland" and not, as I previously believed, "Footland". I still cannot bring myself to shop there because I can't get over the old name. The smell of feet is not my ideal odor sountrack for grocery shopping. But you should not let that stop you. Unfortunately I am not able to give the manager a minus star rating on this site. Recently, while my twenty something daughter was shopping inside the store, her puppy, which she had tied up too close to the outside display of evergreen branches, started chewing on one of them, unbeknownst to her. After she paid for her groceries she was followed and confronted outside the store by the manager who arbitrarily took four bundles off the display and demanded that she go back into the store and pay for them, even though there was only one that had any evidence of damage, claiming he couldn't sell them to customers "because the dog had touched them". She offered to pay for the damaged one and repeatedly asked him to show her where the damage was on the remaining three but he refused, saying "it was all on the security camera". Completely taken off guard by this man's rude behaviour, she went ahead and paid $31.59 for one slightly damaged and three completely intact evergreen branches which she did not want. All this happened in front of the cashiers and customers at which point she said that she had been coming here since she was a child but wouldn't be returning. His attitude was good riddance to you and your dog. After hearing this, I, her father, returned to Foodland with the items and told the manager that she had been willing to pay for the damaged branches but he had pressured her into paying for goods that were in no way damaged. Once again, he refused to even look at them and told me never to enter his store again. Which we won't until the store is under new management. read more
