I reallllly wish I could say that I like shopping at Foodland, but sadly I can't. First off, I avoid coming here, although it is the closest market to my house because the smell of frying oil permeates the store. I guess they fry a lot of stuff there and the smell of oil gets into my clothes and hair Everytime I go there. Yuk. Last week, I took my chances and got their $6 spicy ahi bento. $6 is a very good deal so I ended up buying 4 for my family. Ok, I really am curious about the 'ahi' that was served. It was all minced up and I swear there was no taste. The consistency was like, and this is kinda gross, raw hamburger, if you can imagine what raw hamburger would taste like. It looked like a legit spicy ahi bento but the taste was bad, the consistency wasn't appetizing and it just wasn't good. Kinda bummed about it because I was looking forward to a yummy dinner that Friday. What's with the Maikai label? Does Foodland really make all of the labeled items or do they just repackage it and slap their name on it? The cashiers are usually good and lines can get quite long. Mililani Shopping Center... Foodland is one of my stops I frequently make on my way to work. I enjoy talking to "Aunty" Dottie. I'm always greeted by her when she's there, and makes me feel welcomed. It seems like I've known her for along time. I stopped in to pick a few things on my list for dinner. I didn't have this on my list but seen it was still on sale so I decided to pick up a case of Foodlands brand Maika'i "Coconut water with pineapple." I've been introduced to the Maika'i brand of sparkling water by a fellow Yelper Roz M & her sister, and must say I'm hooked! Thank you!! First I bought 2, then 5, then 6. This time I stood in front of the display and said eh why not, so I picked up a case of this refreshing and delicious sparkling water for $10.59 what a deal! Regular priced at $1.79 per can. Love this local market... There's so many reasons why we love Foodland first for me personally is their reusable tote as they just express the food or vibe of the islands and are large yet so compact for daily use, though for many is the Poke and don't get me wrong it's the place that I do go knowing that you can get one of the most variety of selections any time of the day as my cravings do vary and knowing that I just love what they have besides their chicken wings...mmmmm! Love that they have their customer service right at the entrance as this isn't my usual location I always have questions but a very nice and clean location and is very easy to browse and with lots of free parking making it so easy to stop for whatever you need or looking for and that the shopping center restroom is right outside of the store and yes you can find the code at the customer service counter. Foodland is mainstay anywhere on Oahu. You can expect good poke and decent prices on groceries. They have pretty good Maikai Rewards so make sure to sign up. For the most part, we stop in for the poke and every expanding deli and ready warm bentos/musubi. It has that home feel to it, it's been here atleast 40 years! This review is based on Foodland's poke. Similar to Tamura's and the like, Foodland is also a one stop shop for your poke needs. You can't go wrong, whatever you choose. Note: Spicy ahi isn't really "spicy." Rice for the poke bowls are a hit or miss. Some days the rice is too wet, or too hard. But some days they get it just right. Local grocery store here on island that is known as "Hawaii's Home For Poke". So much variety of poke to choose from as well as a large selection of prepared ready to eat food to enjoy. Desserts galore to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth cravings. You fell the Aloha from all the employees and is a very clean location! You are able to taste test any or all varieties of poke before purchasing. I ordered some fried chicken skins from the deli area. I had the Spicy Maui onion ahi poke and the To Go poi portion from the poke station. Fried chicken skins - good but found a few left over feathers. lol Spicy Maui onion ahi - nice flavor, clean tasting ahi, and crispy onions to top off the poke which added some texture. Poi - my first time tasting poi. I respect that it's the islands choice of starch, it's just not for me. Maybe if it had flavor but, it's flavorless to me. My wife just brought home some grilled steak from Foodland and I have to say that the quality has gone down considerably! She almost choked on one piece and very few pieces are chewable. The fibrous strands are all throughout the meat making it more chewy than beef jerky. It's not dry, just either a bad cut of meat or cut completely wrong. Thoroughly disappointing experience as I haven't had their steak for a while and it sounded good when she said she was bringing some home. I like this location. We came here for snacks. They have cakes, hot food and groceries here. I ended up getting a slice of the ube cake. So good. Cakes are made fresh here. Highly recommend. It's a grocery store as well. The store was clean and so much to choose from. I definitely like this location. The cashier was nice and friendly. Admittedly, to save money on groceries, I prefer shopping at the commissary, as I will literally save a ton of money compared to community grocery stores and supermarkets. But for the onesies and twosies and party pupu needs, I will hit up Foodland before I consider Safeway or even Times. Times has way more selection, but I like the parking proximity and it's not as crowded. Besides, I have maika'i award points that I can turn into Hawaiian Air miles, which I'd rather support to in turn benefit me. Their fried chicken is a go-to from their deli, and I have no shame buying 1 or 2 day old bread from that cheap rack (which I haven't seen much of lately...). Their poke is my favorite on the island. I've been to the Foodland in Ala Moana and their poke section is nuts, with dozens of people crowded around waiting to get their order, with no method to the madness. Luckily Millz's Foodland is more tame and the people are way more nice to each other. I always walk out with 2-3 different flavors of poke, and an occasional smoked ahi dip. Hoh, that dip, mean. My go-to and all time fav local grocery chain to shop at. Ya, I may not cook most of the time let's be real, but I somehow find myself in Foodland loading up on snacks, pupus, and lunch for field trips. I've been coming here for years and have never had a problem with out of stock items or bad service. I am a huge fan of their Pupu selection: spicy ahi, spicy crab, spicy taco, and now that they have the shoyu garlic, done deal, just take alllllll my $$ already. Aisles are organized and well stocked. Associates sometimes are roaming and working so just catch one of you have a question or are lost and I'm sure they would be glad to help. The cashiers are very friendly, some like to talk story, but I don't mind, unless there is a line but when there is a line, I'm in and out of there in no time. Sometimes I'll have to circle the parking lot a bit but other than that, no biggie. However the stalls right in front of Foodland side walk are very tight. More for skinny compact cars. If you have a nice car and don't want to get dings, by all means avoid those stalls and park elsewhere. Sign up for maika'i rewards program and score weekly deals. New ad comes out every Tuesday in the mid-week. Nowadays you don't need the physical card, just as long as you type in your phone number, you'll receive points and reward slips. I love the poke and food area with their salads , stews and sandwiches. Today I was disappointed with the Somen salad. For one thing , the salad has been reduced to a smaller size, there was not enough dressing to cover the noodles, and the noodles were under cooked and pasty in texture. I was at Foodland in Yelping nirvana, thinking...wow this is where I can write about such a great establishment that has pretty good prices on booze...BzZzzzzt. As soon as I get in there and start taking ONE picture with my quiet, tiny camera without flash, I get accosted by what seems to be a manager...'do you need help with something?" I ask her "what happened to Agwa liqueur...you know the one with the coca leaves in it?" She looked puzzled. She proved me right by not knowing anything about the booze there. This was the first time we tried the Foodland Curbside service. My mom used the app and purchased her items. The instructions were to park in one of the two designated stalls, but if they are filled to park in any stall and either call or text we were there. Upon arrival we parked in the handicapped parking area (my mother has a valid handicap placard) which is the next stall over from the two designated stalls that were occupied at the time. I used my mother's phone and texted a detailed message to relay we were there. Message read: "Picking up order #----. Parked in handicapped parking. Light Blue Avenger". She received a text back confirming it was for her and that they will be right out. We waited. A few minutes go by as we see other's being loaded. About 10min in (not long at all) a Foodland employee comes over to the window. She confirmed the order was for us and they came over with the wagon of groceries. She mentioned they were not sure because we were not parked in the designated stalls. I then mentioned that we did state where we were parked in the text message. She said no one communicated that to her, but the service was friendly and they were quick thereafter. All in all it was a very good experience. We don't mind waiting whenever we do curbside and I really wanted to check this service out mainly for my handicapped mother. I don't want her to have a difficult time if she does order this way again. As most new processes there are little hiccups to overcome before it becomes a well oiled smooth running machine, as we encountered in the communication by text. Whomever is the person in charge of receiving the "customer arrived" messages will need to be a good communicator. I am thankful and happy for the service and we will try it again, this time we will "call" with our arrival and see if there is a difference in the service. read more

I grew up in Mililani, but when I was younger we hardly went to Foodland. Now as an adult, I constantly find myself making a stop there! Their poke bowls are pretty great. There are a variety of options, but wasabi salmon poke is one of my favorites! You even have the option of getting white or brown rice. If you want brown rice, just ask for it or they will typically give you white rice as a default. You also can get your poke bowl with or without furikaki. Foodland also does well selling their colorful, Hawaiian-themed reusable tote bags (They have canvas bags too!). I've bought a few of them and they have all been really sturdy. This comes in handy when purchasing items because you can earn Hawaiian miles or get 5 cents back for bringing in your bag. Be sure to get a maika'i card! I love this foodland. So far its the only one I can find the spicy langostino poke at. I've always loved getting my poke at any foodland. But since discovering the langostino at this mililani location, I'm hooked! As far as everything else, good too. Just prices are on the high side. I'm sure the produce is mostly local and fresh so for that the price idnt too bad. They do have the maika'I card program which you get discounts and rewards for. All the meats I've purchased here have always been good too. Only place I can get the best cut of ribeye to cook at home to perfection! With the deli/salad area I can order per pound fresh fruits, salads, ready made meatloafs, pasteles... much more. My kids love getting icees from the machine and whatever goodies from the bakery. Believe it or not some of the people still work there since I was in middle school. Everyone there always seems happy with their job!! No one is ever mad or grumpy. Always so welcoming and happy. I love the workers here, but one complaint I have is their deli fried vinegar chicken is undercook. I work around the area and I went to foodland to get my lunch, I'm so hungry i had to get something g fast. Went to their Deli area to order a plate lunch with vinegar fried chicken. I was pretty disappointed each bite I took from my chicken were all red in the inside. Im pregnant, and I have to be careful what I eat and undercook is pretty dangerous for my baby.
