I was hungry for a low cost breakfast and I had some time to kill. Yelp led me here, to Jefferson…read moreDiner. I sat at the counter behind Kelly, the woman who I suspect is the owner but was running that grill like a well oiled machine. She works on a 3 ft grill and to do that you have to be organized and fast. She was exactly that. The diner itself is old school, homey, the epitomy of comfort. Tin walls, pictures of family and staff scattered about, and a sign that says "We can't direct the wind, we can adjust the sails" words of wisdom. Regulars come in are greeted by name, and have their custom orders. You can see the lasting impact this place has had on the community. Before long, Kelly herself put my two eggs and sausage plate in front of me. She takes a lot of pride in her work and she should. The potatoes were seasoned well, a good mix of crunchy bits and softer pieces. The eggs were textbook over easy. Couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. I saw a few other items on their menu I want to try, and this diner is a convenient spot between where I live in Johnston and where I work in East Greenwich. I look forward to stopping in again and paying Kelly another visit.

My wife and I have enjoyed our second visit in a month to our new favorite breakfast place! Staff…read moreis very friendly. They were all wearing Jefferson Diner t-shirts of different colors. We came in at about 11:10 am as they were probably at about 2/3 capacity the last hour before shutting down for their 2 week vacation period. It took some time to get our breakfast once the order was placed but not an unreasonable amount of time. Plus the atmosphere was relaxing. We sat at the counter as all the booths were full. And I have to admit, eating at the countertop was relaxing. I ordered the JD muffin which is a grilled English muffin with bacon and fried egg for ~$5.95. The outside of the muffin was soft compared to the crisp inside. It was deliciously tasteful with crispy grilled bacon and egg. Much more tasteful than those egg muffins that one can purchase elsewhere at those widespread coffee shops. My partner had a #7 with a side of bacon including 2 eggs scrambled, 2 bacon slices, home fries, 2 pieces of toast and 2 thick tasty plain pancakes of which I had one. I don't usually have plain pancakes but these were very tasty and fluffy. Both of our coffees, hot and iced, came with free refills. We wished the staff a great vacation and left, knowing that this is our new "goto" breakfast restaurant.

Gel's is a great little neighborhood restaurant. They are located at the end of a strip mall, right…read morenear the road at the 'entrance/exit'. Parking is shared with several other businesses. There is no 'handicapped parking' specifically for Gel's due to the way the parking lot is designed. There is a small vestibule between the outside and the inside where you will find a community food pantry. Take something if you need it, or leave something for your neighbors. This is such a lovely offering and very much in line with Gel's local community mind set. The doors into the vestibule are heavy glass and metal. Seat yourself in one of the booths. When they remodeled they added a small bar to the back area if you prefer counter seating. They offer a variety of mimosa flavors at breakfast and beer and wine at lunch. Although I suppose if you want a beer with your eggs, have at it. The front and side walls have large windows making the interior bright. They offer so many specials. Check out all the white boards on the back wall above the counter seating. These are in addition to their standard menu. Breakfast items include egg based meals (eggs & bacon & toast for ex.), pancakes, hash and lots of al la carte sides. Coffee is good and comes with free refills. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, salads, soups, wraps and they have a kids menu too. They also offer Kino if you like. They sell Gel's merch (holiday gifts?) and decorate for all the holidays.

The bench we were on was loose and could feel every time the people behind us moved. We were debating asking to move to the booth in front of us but we realized it was also loose. Ordered our drinks and the waitress brought the hot water carafe (with the lid on incorrectly so water couldn't come out) for my tea and she forgot my mug. When I flagged her down told her - she looked at me blankly. I'm like I ordered a tea. She's like I gave you a tea. I'm like what do I drink it with. I need a cup. Literally after like 3 back and fourths she finally understood me. And bright me a mug. She also seemed unfamiliar with the menu. The thing my son ordered came with bacon, ham, and sausage but she asked which one of the three that he wanted. We kept saying that all three of them are included and she kept insisting that we'd have to get it on the side until we showed her the menu. All of the eggs came out over easy even though I asked for medium. My yolks were 100% runny and I like them custardy. Some of the egg whites were still raw. Other than the sub par service the food was as expected.
