Although The Food Room is a little out of the way, away from the main run of shops and restaurants in Lichfield, it is a place that dishes out decent quality sandwiches, baguettes and soups.
There is space in the small building to seat a select few guests. The seating is fairly basic but once a few people are sitting around you the atmosphere quickly perks up. The service can range quite widely but is usually fairly personable. The staff are always efficient despite the rather large queues that occur most lunchtimes.
The food is good quality. There is a set menu of sandwiches and baguettes as well as a chalk board of specials that is changed most weeks. Baguettes are cooked on the premises and the sandwich fillings are imaginative and tasty. Price-wise, the baguettes are above average but the difference in taste is worth the extra fee pennies.
Overall, The Food Room is a great small-business success story for the City of Lichfield. The staff work hard to deliver consistently fresh and high quality food. The recently-installed fittings give the place a more upmarket feel and underline how this place genuinely differs from the mainstream run of the mill sandwich outlets. The Food Room's steady queues of followers each lunchtime are testimony enough of the quality here. read more
