From butternut squash with goat cheese to Asian pork belly, every bite was unbelievable. The spiced rum mojitos were perfectly portioned and muffled and the desserts were a perfect ending to the meal. The staff made my day and I couldn't have asked for a better dinner experience during my one night in Lichfield. Do I recommend it? The place has a great feeling about it as soon as you walk in, the waiting on staff are impeccably dressed and nothing is too much trouble. The inside of the cafe is just as impressive as on the outside, with the walls clad in dark wood, adorned with the occasional historical picture or tapestry. It is quite a spacious place, with a good variety of tables and seating, for smaller and larger parties; a minibus load of people came in when we were there. Menu wise, a huge variety from the homemade cakes like Bara brith, Millionaires Shortbread, Victoria Sponge, that sat temptingly in glass domes on a sideboard near to our table, to snacks like toast, sandwiches, teacakes etc. There was also a comprehensive range of cooked meals, like lasagne, chilli etc. Drinks wise, again a vast range of speciality teas, coffees and wine. Pity it was only mid-morning when we visited or we might have been tempted to sample more than just toast off the menu! I've never had breakfast there, but I have gone in a few times for coffee and treats, and can say it's a fine little place. There is certainly nothing about The Lounge from the afternoon tea perspective to recommend it over another establishment. Soda Streat was a much better cuppa and cake place, but they've sadly closed in the past year. The Lounge is a small little cafe with wooden floors, cheap but cheerful tables and some comfyish chairs. Their tea selection is alright, with a few different ones, and a pot of tea with milk will only set you back £1.65. Their lattes and cappucinos are basic, but dependable. The real treat, however, are their cakes, which are baked by the Lichfield Women's Institute, nudity optional. There are always new and interesting varieties, and they're all scrumptious. The staff are a bit dismissive, except for one older lady who's very friendly, so if you want something, you'll have to push on for it, as they often act as if they can't be bothered to serve you. The place is not big enough to carry on a naughty conversation about anyone in Lichfield, but it's good as a nice break from seeing the Lichfield sights. The ladies loo is really cute, all done up in a French 50s style boudouir, with pink and black and cute decor. But the star of The Lounge is the truly hideous, awful art displayed on the walls. The Lounge makes a point of promoting local artists, and some of them are quite good. However, the current one (on display as of a week ago), is absolutely awful. Think lots and lots of fairies and mushrooms and spacescapes, drawn with all the skill and panache of a 12-year-old sci fi geek youth. Someone spent a lot of money on finger paints, and applied them to canvas with all the delicacy of a 9 foot mountain troll. The menu has a decent variety of sandwiches, wraps etc. We opted to share a Club Sandwich, with a pot of tea and a cappuccino. Nothing particularly adventurous, but it proved to be a solid choice. The tea and cappuccino, were a little insipid and too milky respectively, but the Club Sandwich was a triumph still warm, but with generous portions of chicken, bacon, crisp fresh lettuce and tomatoes, wonderfully tasty, with a generous side salad. We will definitely be returning to the Lounge to sample more of their menu in the near future. Décor wise, a good variety of seating, from formal tables to sumptuous sofas. Pictures on the wall, ranged from large unfathomable landscapes to bold flowers, and a picture of Jack Sparrow! The Chapters coffee shop is adjacent to Lichfield Cathedral, and a 3 or 4 minutes walk from the…read moremain shopping and city centre area of Lichfield. This is a daytime establishment, catering to residents, tourists and Cathedral visitors. The building is a few hundred years old, and so has much to offer those of us who are rather tired of modern coffee shops etc. Whilst it serves coffee it also offers larger meals too, particularly over the lunch period. It's food, teas and coffees are all very tasty, and the ambience is warm and relaxed. Come here for delicious sandwiches, soups, hot meals, cakes and pastries. The staff welcome you warmly, and there's a choice of rooms in which to enjoy your delights. During better weather there are tables and chairs in the gardens at the rear of Chapters. The shelter garden location is very quiet, and backs onto Minster pool, so don't be too surprises if some ducks waddle onto the lawn. Generally parking is restricted in Cathedral Close, though there are public car parks less than five minutes walk away, (Bird Street Car Park is the closest) where you'll enjoy walking past the Minster Pool.

Within walking distance of Lichfield Cathedral, the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum and Erasmus Darwin's House, the Three Spires is a perfect place to duck into to enjoy a quick bite. Lichfield, a tourist attraction due to the above attractions, and also the Lichfield Garrick and the Festival held every summer, can get really packed and crowded on the weekends, and most of the main restaurants and pubs get really crowded. The Three Spires is slightly tucked away from it all and always has a relaxed atmosphere. The food is very fresh, very nicely cooked and always has its own unique twist on classic themes (e.g., eggs and bacon in a baguette for breakfast). The coffee is really outstanding, freshly made, with beans ground on site, and lots of syrups and extras. There isn't much seating -- probably only 8 tables in the place, but you can also take their food away, and on dry days, you can use their seating outside. The staff are very friendly, always willing to help you to an enormous slice of their freshly baked (on-site!) delicious array of cakes, and bring your food to your table politely. They also offer free Wi Fi, so you can browse while you eat your watercress and mango chutney sandwich? Not sound like your thing? Pick a combo from the menu then, and away you go!

Me and the partner called in for a late breakfast and upon ordering was told the veggie sausage was…read moresold out, when the breakfast arrived it wasn't cooked particularly well because the toast was only toasted partly and the beans seemed as though they had been over cooked the breakfast looked like something you'd get from a motorway greasy spoons cafe certainly not something I would have expected for the price they charged at 5 pound approx also the quantity seemed stingy upon paying for the meal the bill still had the veggie breakfast that we had told them to cancel due to out of stock food the cafe tried charging for that cancelled meal and I had to remind them that we hadent had that food at all all in all not the best places I or my partner have been to local chippy was better quality!
