The inside of the cafe is just as impressive as on the outside, with the walls clad in dark wood, adorned with the occasional historical picture or tapestry. It is quite a spacious place, with a good variety of tables and seating, for smaller and larger parties; a minibus load of people came in when we were there. Menu wise, a huge variety from the homemade cakes like Bara brith, Millionaires Shortbread, Victoria Sponge, that sat temptingly in glass domes on a sideboard near to our table, to snacks like toast, sandwiches, teacakes etc. There was also a comprehensive range of cooked meals, like lasagne, chilli etc. Drinks wise, again a vast range of speciality teas, coffees and wine. Ordering a vegetarian sausage can be risky and on this occasion, I was not a fan. However, there is such a range of other items on offer that you could avoid them and not be disappointed. Comfortin' Food offers a range of lunches and cakes plus a variety of specials. The cakes looked very tasty so I will have to go back to sample some so that I can improve this review! There is space in the small building to seat a select few guests. The seating is fairly basic but once a few people are sitting around you the atmosphere quickly perks up. The service can range quite widely but is usually fairly personable. The staff are always efficient despite the rather large queues that occur most lunchtimes. The food is good quality. There is a set menu of sandwiches and baguettes as well as a chalk board of specials that is changed most weeks. Baguettes are cooked on the premises and the sandwich fillings are imaginative and tasty. Price-wise, the baguettes are above average but the difference in taste is worth the extra fee pennies. Overall, The Food Room is a great small-business success story for the City of Lichfield. The staff work hard to deliver consistently fresh and high quality food. The recently-installed fittings give the place a more upmarket feel and underline how this place genuinely differs from the mainstream run of the mill sandwich outlets. The Food Room's steady queues of followers each lunchtime are testimony enough of the quality here.
