Was in Chelan, WA and was looking for a lunch spot, came across Fonda Oaxaquena. We ordered 4 dishes and everything was amazing. They offer complimentary chips and salsa and ask for refills too. The Mojarra (Tilapia fish) was good, most entrees come with salad or beans and rice. Loved the burrito huatulco, the inside stuffing was seafood in a creamy sauce. 4.5 stars really Service was really good and accommodating. Most of the food was good to really good except 1. Their chips with beans and quality salsa speaks to their effort on being quality focused. Wife had the chicken fajitas and it was really good. Great portions too! I had the Mole de Clavo, which I really did not like. I will admit it might suppose to taste like that (first time trying it.) The manager was gracious allowing me to change it out. Chicken enchiladas, was good. Had the Mojito that good and decent portion too. I hate those skinny glasses they usually come in. Kids loved the kids spaghetti, bean burritos, and rice and beans. Went here for lunch - Camarones Mexicanos were delicious, the salsa they give for free with the refried beans is outstanding. Only minor comment: their guacamole portion is on the small side for a $5.99 portion. All in all, excellent food and interesting menu! read more

Let's get to the good aspects of Fonda - great service (fast, friendly, attentive), and massive portions (2 people would be stuffed on just one entree). Where it went wrong for me is the sign outside that advertises "authentic Southern Mexico cuisine." Nope. This place is gringo Mexican food through and through. Light fluffy "Mexican" rice chock full of peas and carrots, large side of refried beans (at least sprinkled with Mexican cheese), and otherwise uninspiring main course. Shredded chicken with verde sauce that clearly came out of a gallon sized can. Don't get me wrong - there's a place for this type of food, and nearly every town has at least one Mexican restaurant with names like - Ixtapa, Aculpoco,Azteca - that effectively serve gringo diner Mexican food. This is that place. If you want a more authentic meal, with tastier and more interesting spices and slow cooked meats and perhaps a hand rolled tortilla and fresh salsa, start with the taco truck on Main. If instead you want large plates full of gringo Mexican food, and maybe a goblet of margaritas with a pre-mixed lime concentrate and a heaping bowl of chips, you've found your place here. Just please don't call it authentic. read more

We visited Chelan and stopped by downtown, and was craving Mexican food for lunch. We saw the Yelp reviews and dined here. The place is very nice with colorful Mexican decor. We were seated right away. Chips with salsa and refried beans was served with waters. We ordered a chicken taco salad and the Monday lunch special, chicken Taquitos Dorados with rice and substituted refried beans for black beans. We didn't wait too long for our entrees, and the food was delicious! The taquito was served hot and the taquito shell was crispy. The food was flavorful and not overly salty. Other than the very loud group behind us eating, we enjoyed our meal and the ambiance. The staff was very attentive and kind. Restrooms are very clean. What a delicious restaurant in Chelan! So glad we found this spot! We really brought the chaos and the staff couldn't have been kinder. An excellent place to bring kids, as they didn't seem at all phased by a bit of a mess and accidental water spill. They were so sweet and kind through it all and kept their high energy and smiles coming. Food was excellent-the chips, salsa and bean dip were the perfect starter with our margaritas (best salsa I've had in a long time) and the entrees were huge and left us wishing we lived in Chelan and could be regulars here! We came in early May when the small lake town of Chelan is not hopping yet. Plus it was a Tuesday. Got seated immediately and the hostess and server were welcoming and proficient. We ordered the enchilada verde and chile relleno, Tuesday's lunch special. They were both very good and what I felt authentic Mexican. The chips were fresh and salsa was a smoky (maybe a Salsa molcajete) with a medium level of spiciness. Food came out promptly. The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and cheery. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the region. Their salsa is so good that we bring mason jars and buy it in bulk so we can enjoy it at home. The food here comes quick, is packed with flavor, and their house specials really give you options if you are feeling something other than tacos, burritos, or enchiladas. I only got through about half the chicken in my chicken fajitas and this is remarkable for me. So much meat and so well cooked and seasoned. Big side of guac and sour cream. Beans and rice were on the proverbial point. Hot salsa, beans, and chips available when you sit down. The hot salsa is probably 7/10 spicy and it's awesome but may not be suitable for the spice-averse. Service is warm and attentive if forgetful. Still, they bust their butt to take care of you and tables were cleaned off quickly, dishes pre-bussed off the table, and we all felt welcome from the moment we came in until we walked out the door. read more

We had a large group of 12 at a busy time for the restaurant. The margaritas were good, the chips and salsa included a side of refried beans for dipping which is always a big plus in my book. The food that others were served looked good. The reason for my 3 star rating is that my chicken in my mole dish wasn't the boneless breast that the menu described. I was served two chicken legs under mole sauce. Sauce was good, but tough to eat the chicken. Water glass was empty at times. I would give this restaurant another chance some day. read more

Service was great, quick turn around on drinks, and chips, and attentive staff across the board. The salsa and bean dip with the chips were awesome! Margaritas weren't overly sweet, and a good value for the size. We got the crab enchiladas and steak tacos - both delivered above expectations. One month new and a constant stream of satisfied customers on a Thursday night is testament to the quality, service, and tastiness of the food. The Pollo Oaxaquena Mole was filled with large chunks of shredded chicken, topped with perfect ratio of ole sauce to content and topped with fresh greens, radish slices. The Special of the day was pork ribs in verde sauce. We both agreed the mole and verde sauces were delicately seasoned and the best we have had. Fast, attentive service.
