My PurrBall crossed the rainbow bridge in October. I wanted to bear her in my kitty cemetery in the backyard, but the ground was too hard, so I had her cremated at Fond Memories. Many vets in town use their service, and it was going to cost an extra $65 for picking up her body and returning her cremains so I took her out myself. The staff there is extremely kind. I got to spend extra time with her in a mourning room. I was offered getting a lock of her hair and a paw print if I wanted, but I declined. I was told that I would probably be able to pick her up the following week I received a call about two days later. Her crews were presented to me in a beautiful satin blue bag. The ground was still too hard, so she is sitting on my altar, and though it has rained and the ground is soft enough to dig, the time is not right to say my total goodbye yet. My friends lost their fur baby and used this place for him. I'm giving four stars as I didn't use this place; I picked up their sweet boy as a favor. This place was so hard to find. I missed it the first time and had to drive around the block again. There are store fronts parallel to the road. I didn't see the sign on any stores so I thought I missed it. There are a bunch of buildings BEHIND those stores that are perpendicular to the road. Phew! The office itself is very small. I don't know if they cremate on site or somewhere else. RIP Tuff. Our dog Eli fought his battle with kidney disease and unfortunately, he stopped eating so we knew the end was near. We scheduled the appt to have the vet come by two days ahead of time and they definitely made the experience as good as is possible in difficult circumstances. The vet was on-time and greeted us and immediately, showed empathy for what we were going through. She also pet Eli and walked us through the process. Basically, she gives them a shot to put them under and then you wait 5-10 minutes for that to kick-in and then she gives the final dose which ends their suffering. Everything went as it should and afterward, she let us hold our sweet boy and also take some pawprints since he hated us touching his feet when he was alive. When we were done with that, she took him in a dog bed to the car and reassured us that we did the right thing for him. They contacted us about 10 days later to come pick up his remains from their location on Lamar. They were in a blue gift bag along with a note. Overall, this one of the hardest experiences I've had to go through and the support and service provided by Fond Memories was definitely the right choice. read more

Sadly, this is our second occasion to choose Fond Memories - this time for our sweet girl's cremation. Our first occasion was 2 years ago last June when they took care of our cancer riddled Golden. Everything happened so fast- a blessing for our dear 4 pawed children but leaving us reeling in grief. At a time like that it's critical to be able to trust that a facility is going to do what they say. We chose individual cremation for our fur babies with their cremains return in a simple wooden box. We also get a paw print. They have many service options at all price ranges. Because of the size of our dogs, we opted for them to come to our home to take them to the crematory. In both situations our pets were treated with dignity and respect. Harley was so large they had 2 attendees and with Nani- she had lost a lot of weight so Dr Maggie helped the attendant get her situated on the stretcher and covered with a blanket. The young man from Fond Memories didn't seem surprised that I was blubbering away and he expressed his sympathy. They leave your sweet pets face uncovered and you can have as much time as you need with them. Then they carefully place them in their transport vehicle on the stretcher, and drive them away. Dr. Maggie assured us Nani would be treated in a dignified manner throughout the entire process and that we would be called when her cremains were ready to come home. These folks are top shelf. My best friend's dog died and he was her absolute world. I searched high and low for a place that I felt would do the best job. I read reviews on here, google, and the websites. I read about how everyone handled intake, the cremation process, and all the details. By far this place was the best. They met us at the door and were so accommodating. They were willing to take her fur baby out and bring him into the room themselves or they would let either of us do it. They were just above and beyond in accommodating whatever was best for my friend. They offer every kind of support and service you can imagine. They also offer urns, paintings made with your pet's DNA, jewelry made from the ashes, nose prints, paw prints, a locket of hair, the sky is the limit on what will make you happiest. They have a beautiful and private intake space with a sweet little/or big (whatever your baby needs) basket with a soft blanket for you to lay them on while you discuss your needs. The professionalism and service we received was outstanding. The folks that worked my friend's intake were so compassionate. I have already decided when the unfortunate day arrives for our family and our fur babies, we will be using them. First and foremost I am thankful this type of business exists for our special creatures; I have been here as Fond Memories and I have also been here when Fond Memories was The Pet Loss Center. My experience both times was that they do a pretty good job at being detailed and caring about the service they provide. When this was TPLC, I even had a representative reach out to me JUST to check in and see how I was doing emotionally - that was surprising and quite comforting. Here is where I think there could be improvement: --- the sound of the place where they perform the cremation can be heard from the lobby area; this is very disheartening and a little disturbing to hear after you have just lost your pet. Perhaps have some soft, comforting music to help with that? --- I know for a fact my dog's paw was not completely representative in the clay print I was given ... my dog had VERY long nails when she passed away and you could not see any nail in the print and the toes looked way too perfect (and I get if you had to alter something because of the nails, but be transparent about it!). --- people coming inside from the outside area where they perform the cremation with "dust" on them ... again a little disheartening and disturbing. I know that this is ultimately a business. But, you are in the business of lives - lives that have been lost - understand that for some that is a lifetime experience carried with them forever. That means any marks you miss could make an already difficult experience even worse for a very, very long time. read more

-10 stars if I could. I was failed at every possible level at this facility. I trusted these people to not cremate my emotional support dog of nearly 15 years until I was present so I could be with her in these final moments the way she was always with me when I needed someone. It started with Sarah answering the phone giving inaccurate information. She quoted me $472 for witnessing when I was clear I was working with their "partner" Lap of Love (already paying $445 for euthanasia, and $295 for private cremation) for these services. Even if she is still in training, she needs to know that putting someone on hold is infinitely better than giving bad information about things she doesn't know. Her quote was a smack in the face. I later called back and got Emily who quoted me $130. Definitely better. I then received a call from Emily the day before witness, "just to chat and check in" on me to make sure I was ok (or, I'm assuming, to confirm the appointment) which I thought was nice but now I'm wondering if she could have figured out in that moment that she royally messed up. The next thing I know, Robert the facility manager is calling me at 16:30 to tell me they already cremated my dog. This particular individual needs sensitivity training or complete removal from his position. He was not very sincere in his apology or demeanor on the phone or in person when I picked Avalon up. Even this morning, he sounded like he had much better things to do than respond to my inquiry for his supervisors contact information, clearly straining to force himself to sound apologetic. Perhaps an emotionally unavailable man should not be in such an important position that involved a lot of emotional availability and intelligence. After speaking with the regional manager, I finally found out that Emily "forgot" to put Avalon on hold in Fond Memories' "state of the art, foolproof" system. Emily has supposedly worked in the industry for over 10 years. Not only that, I spoke to Emily literally 2 days before Avalon was erroneously cremated, to confirm everything was set. Perhaps this would have been the time for Emily to do her job and actually visually confirm that Avalon was on hold in the system. TRUST BUT VERIFY, as they say. Maybe just humor yourself and check. What and who could that possibly hurt? Perhaps her pride in her work, but not me! What a moron. Typically, I would recommend using a different facility but the truth is you will still get the parent company of this facility since the company (Gateway) has bought up literally every pet crematory in the area. So I guess the best you can do is confirm and hope that these people care enough to do their job correctly, especially if you have the intention of witnessing. I was robbed of last rites with my beloved child and there is nothing this place can do to fix it. Having more than one appointment a week for witnessing might help their situation a bit. One appointment a week is ridiculous you guys. They cry "Covid" but no one is wearing masks in Texas, least of all these individuals at this facility. This is just a cover for them not to have to do their full job. I had to wait almost 2 weeks for a witness appointment only to be told they cremated my dog a week and a day before my appointment. Such negligence! Still waiting to hear back about how they are going to fix this so it never happens to anyone ever again. Really hoping Emily and/or Robert will be completely removed from their positions but in today's economy I'm sure that is completely out of the question. If these folks are the best Gateway can do, there's no hoping for anything better. What a joke. Completely disgusting. I'm still sick to my stomach. I did learn that a broken heart can break even further, given the right circumstances. There's always a lesson to be learned. And if you're living right, you never stop learning. read more

Fond Memories were there waiting for the end and with great care took him away to be cemented.the two persons that picked him up did a fabulous job since he was a heavy dog. I stopped by their open house on Saturday because they were donating $ to the local pet facility of your choice. I did not expect the amazing offerings they have for celebrating the life of pets. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by owner Coleen Ellis. She gave me a huge hug and started to tell me all about their facilities and proceeded to take me on a full tour. I was blown away but all the thought and care put into the cherishing the life of your pets. When you first walk in you see a bookshelf with a display of urns, jewelry, and other beautiful and unique memorials. There are even glass beads with ashes blown into them. I was amazed by the creativity. On another wall hangs a group of fantastic pet portraits. Off of the main room are two ceremony rooms where you can hold a service for your pet. One even has an area for children to mourn their pets. They do the cremations on site and have individual cremation chambers so your pets ashes are kept separate. I was very impressed by the whole setup and passion Coleen and her team has for memorializing your pets. read more

Our experience with Fond Memories was one we will never forget. We had to euthanize our fur baby, and our wonderful vet, Dr. Angela Chang, and her staff handled all the arrangements. We left the doctor's office that day with the most horrible feelings of despair and anguish. A week later, we received the call that we could pick up our dog's remains. Losing Dakota to Cancer was the worst thing I've ever witnessed and the most heartbreak I've ever felt. We made the most of it but even when we knew it was time, it was still the worst day of my life yet. Considering what a hard time it was, the pet loss center made the whole experience easy. And it felt like a ceremony/funeral. 1) the van was outside, waiting, never interacting with us until we waved them into the house to help load her. We did not feel cramped and pressured during our last moments. It was just family, like you would want it to be. 2) the young man that came into the house to help load my baby, brought a straw basket with blankets. He helped load her and allowed us to pet her and walk with her. It was a sweet way to transport her. 3) the way we loaded her into the back, he didn't close the doors until we covered her with blankets and said goodbye and obviously were ready for him to take off. Nothing was rushed. 4) yeah they never called me, but when I called, their phones were ringing off the hook. Once I called, a woman collected Dakota's things and packaged them nicely. So once I stated that I was going to be coming in an hour, they were ready. I highly suggest calling and letting them know when you are ready. 5) it is obviously my baby's paw print and fur. And the generic option for the wooden box is actually really nice. They are really busy, keep that in mind. There are not a lot of private pet cremation options in Austin. They do a nice job making it seem like a service! If you are looking for the best vet, look for Compassionate pet vet. The doctor did an amazing job with the whole thing, as awful as it is to go thru it. read more

I highly recommend Fond Memories. My 16 year old basset hound mix passed away a week ago and I received the ashes yesterday from my vet. They made picking him up and bringing him home easy for me which is normally hard to do. Inside the beautiful blue bag was a "velvet like" bag that held the cedar box with Busters ashes in it that alone was beautifully done than you have the paw print with his name on it and the certification of cremation. I lost my dog Kano back on February 20 two cushions disease. It was very hard on me, yet A nightmare trying to find a company I can trust with my dogs ashes. I learned the horror stories how many use a $30 magic bullet blender to blend your dog's remains after he's been cremated. Just horrible.... My cat Hope passed away recently after struggling with intestinal cancer. Her passing was traumatic and sudden. I wanted to honor her with a beautiful burial. Although it was a 1.5 hr drive, I love the Conroe area and scheduled with Fond Memories. The morning of I had not heard anything further from them, & after not sleeping the night before thinking again of her death and pending burial, I texted their afterhours number to make sure everything was on time for her 9am burial. Finally, they responded stating that it was cancelled due to the storm the day before. If I had not texted, I would've picked up Hope's body and drove 1.5hr across town only to find out that there would be no burial. Leaving me with her dead body and nowhere to go. I was furious at the lack of consideration or communication. They then called me later in the day to inform me that I would be refunded while continuing to make excuses for why a burial scheduled 2 weeks prior was forgotten and disregarded. If you are looking for a memorable & professional experience, I would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

The kindness and compassion that the employees at the Pet Loss Center show is really what makes this company so special. We had to unexpectedly say goodbye to our dog Peabody and were able to have Dr. Maggie McDonald, owner of Compassionate Pet Vet (in-home euthanasia) come to our home and help Peabody pass away in a peaceful way. Dr. Maggie coordinated with the Pet Loss Center to arrive at our home and transport Peabody to The Pet Loss Center for cremation. I didn't know what to expect, but the gentleman who showed up was SO kind and helpful. He was calm and explained the process to me. He treated Peabody like his own and had the awareness to know that while I wasn't ready to talk about what happened, I was ready to share what a good boy Peabody was. When we got Peabody's ashes back, we also received his paw print and clip of his hair, along with resources on dealing with pet loss and a personalized note. Something I would also like to note, the women who emailed me to let me know Peabody was ready to pick up (she had called but I couldn't answer), let me know that she was available to talk about Peabody anytime I needed. These kind and genuine words from a total stranger made me feel less alone and were greatly appreciated. I knew this industry is awful in so many ways. I had done research and gotten a recommendation from a local shelter I really really trust. My cat Bella was my whole world to me. This company tells you REPEATEDLY the way you can be SURE you are getting your baby back is you will get a metal numbered disk that will match with the ID they give you. I don't think that proves anything but it did make me feel a little bit better that at least I would have that. A little more than a week, they had told me they would call me in a week, I had to call them. They took quite a while to get me an answer on the phone while I was holding. Finally they told me that they did in fact have my baby Bella's remains. I thought it strange it took a while and that in the middle of my most awful week I could remember that they forced me to call them. When would they have called? Later that day? The following week? EVER? They say trust them. You don't have a system to verify if you TRUST. I trust my wife and friends, I check companies in a sketchy industry. Well when I came to pick up what I now view as GARBAGE in my mind rather than the remains of my loved one, their disk is destroyed. Now that should not have surprised me. It is a rather shabby metal disk that of course might be destroyed in the heat of a cremation oven. But if you are asking me to believe that is my verification then use something SUBSTANTIAL with deep engraving to survive the fire. This pet cremation industry is horrible. They swear they only do one animal but all my research tells me that is just not so. I knew that going in. But I thought I had done enough research. I had not. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. DON'T USE ANY COMPANY. Keep your baby with you and bury her. You will know and not be heartbroken as I am. read more

Her name was Aslan, named for the mighty lion in the Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe.Like her name sake she was a ferocious kitty that left us with many battle wounds throughout the years she was a part of our family. As crazy as she drove us, we loved her that much more. Aslan was the grand dame of the house and she kept us all in line, human, doggie and kitty. We lost Aslan to cancer, and like our other fur babies, we wanted her cremated and put into a beautiful urn to be put in a place of honor with all of our other fur babies. Imagine my horror when Aslan came home and we found that her name had been spelled wrong not only on the plaque with her paw print but on her urn as well. Having your pet cremated is not cheap, but it's a cost we had no problem with, because Aslan was worth that and more. As soon as we noticed the errors I called the pet loss center, leaving a message for a return call. It's now been two days and I still have not had my call returned. I guess that now that they have my money, they are not worried so much about customer service. The urn Aslan came home in is beautiful and worthy of our little grand dame, I will make sure to spread the word about how lovely it is. But I will also make sure to also spread the word about how terrible their customer service is. How they couldn't even bother to spell my cats name correctly. I won't be using their services again, I can get a beautiful urn anywhere, with out the errors and terrible customer customer. read more

Losing my beloved Shih Tzu, Wicket was terribly hard on me. Just brutal. He was a week from turning (14). After a long battle with many life threatening health issues, I decided I put him to sleep while he still had joy in his heart, at our home, from a place of love. For that, I STRONGLY recommend Dr. Maggie MacDonald. So a dear friend fed him full of treats, while I held him in my arms. He flooded me with kisses up to the point life left his sweet little body. It hit me hard. When The Pet Loss Center guy showed up, he was VERY reverent to the situation. He lovingly placed his hand on my arm and gave me all the space and time that I needed. Several days later, I had Wicket cremated, I went to their location to pick up his ashes. Awaiting me was a very loving lady who hugged me several times. The guy that transported Wicket came out to offer support as did someone else. So much kindness. The box they sent me home with, which they advertise on their site, meant so much more to me than I could have ever imagined. The poem about the hair they cut brought me to tears. I cannot say enough nice words to describe my contact with Fond Memories. My 18 year old dog Yogi Bear died at home and I was at a loss as to what to do. My vet said to find a crematory and a google search brought up two. Rainbow Bridge and Fond Memories. Monday, we had to have our 16 year old chocolate lab put to sleep. Fond Memories called me Thursday and told me that Jake was ready to be picked up. I let them know that per the papers I signed, he was to be delivered to us and they informed me that they didn't have a driver available. So, I took my lunch break to drive 30 mins to pick him up. When i walked in, there were 5 staff members standing around (yet told me they didn't have a driver to deliver him). They bring me a bag that has my dogs name on it with the memory items I paid for. I had an uneasy feeling on the 30 minute drive back to my office so when I parked, I decided to take a look at everything. Our lab was very large, however, the claw paw print in my bag was way bigger than our dogs and the fur in a ziplock bag was tan/blonde with white and was a little curly....NOT my chocolate labs fur. I immediately called Fond Memories to let them know that the fur and clay paw print was not my dogs even tho everything had my dogs name on it. The girl told me they would look into it and call me back shortly. I received a call from the manager who (was very apologetic) and he told me he knows exactly what happened....the dog I received was from a euthanasia right after our dogs and the pick up guys tagged the dogs incorrectly. He told me he would come to my house and bring our dogs ashes, fur clippings and clay paw and trade out for the dog that was given to me. We looked thru everything to make sure it is all correct and he then tells me that the other dogs owners had paid for ink paw and nose prints as well but since they had that dog tagged as ours, they were actually our dogs ink prints so that was a little added bonus to this awful mess up. However, that means that the other dog parents don't get ink paw and nose prints of their dog bc he was tagged as our dog and I didn't order ink prints. My heart hurts for the other dogs family as they are not getting exactly what they ordered in remembrance of their baby. There are certain things that have to get done right and this is one of them...this week was hard enough on both families and the ball was dropped. Thankfully we have our baby back home with us but this experience on top of the already difficult and emotional time was one I don't wish on anyone! read more

I picked up my cat Shelby's remains today, and I can't even begin to express how pleased I was to see what this facility had presented me. Her ashes were in a beautiful cherrywood box with her name plate on top, a lock of her hair, a pottery with her foot print, a pin to wear in her memory, and even a cover page Honoring her Journey with her name and date of passing on it, with a lovely passage on it. I also received a sympathy card with her name on it signed by all the staff. When I called today to thank them for their kindness, I was even told that if I was just having a bad day with remembering her, I could call and someone would always be willing to talk with me. Glad they were able to help me with the passing of my best dog. They came and picked him up in San Marcos even. They have a caring staff, and many wonderful ways offered to commemorate your pet.
