Feeling hungry after a nice stroll at the MoMA? Well, directly across the street from the museum is Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse. Just because it's a steakhouse in mid-town Manhattan doesn't mean you have to break the bank. Fogo has one thing on the menu that should fit the bill: Market Table & Feijoada Bar. OYCE for $20 if you come during their lunch hours which are 11:30-3pm during weekdays and 11:30-2pm on weekends. The salad bar was splendid. I must have sampled at least 90% of their offerings. Everything was so colorful, delish and healthful, making me relatively guilt-free while committing gluttony. There were so many recipes I rarely have the opportunity to experience, yet here they were - all at the same bar. I particularly enjoyed the roasted zucchini, pickled tomato, greens with roasted pears, and persimmons. For those who require animal protein, smoked salmon and chicken salad were available, as well as pork at the Feijoda bar. Speaking of which, I wasn't a fan of that section. Food was good, as you would expect from a chain Brazilian steak house concept (definitely more plentiful than overly "gourmet", but still hit the mark) Reason for the 1 star review was the scheme they pulled on us. When we arrived at the table (group of 7), a waiter with a push cart of prebatched cocktail in a jug came over and suggested we all have a shot as we are "celebrating" tonight. Without us even responding, he gave us all a serving - and while not very enjoyable at all (tasted like warm rum and lime juice), group was still appreciative for what we thought was a free drink and hospitality. When we get our cheque at the end of the meal, we were shocked to see a $15 per person charge for the drink. We asked our waitress about this - who was extremely apologetic (sounded like she heard this problem before or at least prior this night) - but when a manager came over after he rudely shouted at us "why would you guys expect free drinks at a restaurant!" and said at best he can take 3 of the drinks of the tab (?!) The servers came around at a decent pace with the meats. They were overall seasoned and cooked well, but a few were on the overcooked end, even when asking for a rarer cut. This might be the nicest Fogo I've been to - huge, classy, right in the middle of the NY action. I've probably been 5 times to this location and as a single or two people have never had to wait more than 10 minutes even without a reservation. It is also more expensive than other Fogo locations - about $15 more per person but still an excellent value. People swoon over Vegas buffets but Fogo has them all beat hands down - the salad bar (market table) isn't just a filler, it really is the star with such a variety of absolutely excellent things to get you started. I went once when they had a lobster bisque but its been a long time and I desperately want it to be a regular thing - My favorite cut is the picanha - so I've been opting to forego the "full experience" and just get the picanha - they still bring it to your table and you can have as much as you like. It is a fun and impressive place - but take your time - you can really enjoy the experience or get in and out pretty quickly - as close to fine dining-fast food combo as you want to make it. read more

I've had great experiences here in the past and was really disappointed with my most recent experience. We had a 1 PM reservation for brunch and arrived on time. We were told to wait to be seated when the downstairs looked fairly empty, but lots of walk ins came in after us and were seated first. After 15 minutes we were finally seated. Service was slower than usual and we were cramped in a tight table in the far back. Our usual favorites, beef short rib and lamb chops were way over cooked. This restaurant came highly recommended. It's known for its Brazilian steakhouse AYCE experience where they bring the cuts of meat straight to your table and cut it for you. My all time favorite cut of meat is their signature. Other than that, most other pieces were okay at best such as their ribeye and the rest weren't good at all. Some pieces were too tough to each, others like lamb were too lamb-y tasting with no flavor, the chicken was average taste. The salad bar was very disappointing, although the salad (ie ceasar salad) was good and had decent charcuterie pieces of good cheese and cured meats, it often ran out because everyone was only going for those an with good reason as that was really the only highlight of the salad bar. It took time for each cut of meat to come around and rare to get the one you actually want, I just waiting for the signature to come around each time and it only came around twice. Overall for $80ish per person it wasnt worth the hype for me. We were also seated on the third floor, totally separated from the first floor requiring us to go down stairs to get food and bring plates of food upstairs from first floor to second floor, passing all the people waiting for a table, to our second floor, or we could wait 5 minutes for elevator to come. We decided to get dessert and their molten chocolate lava cake was by far one of the worst I've ever had. The cake was too dry and cake texture and no molten chocolate inside the cake, the cake just had a hole for them to pour chocolate into. Not bad but definitely not my expectation of it. If I were to come again, it would be for regular plates of food and not the churrasco ayce and skip dessert. Fogo de chao is an absolutely incredible (and slightly gatekept) happy hour. The Brazilian steakhouse is well known, but happy hour is a special secret. The cocktails are $10-12, wines are $8, and beers are $6-8. The best part is that bar snacks are $6 and there's a full burger option for $10. Super prices for the location and beautiful, sophisticated ambiance. I ordered the passionate caipirinha which has silver cachaca, passion fruit, and lime ($10). It's fruity, bitter, and strong, an amazing combo. We also ordered the polenta fries, sliders, and empanadas which were all very good. Unfortunately, this is a 4 start review due to the service. Our bar tender was nice enough, but the service was really slow. It was hard to get his attention and we had to reach out multiple times instead of him checking in. We went for Saturday brunch my brother was suggested to get the indulgent experience which included a large lobster tail and dessert in addition to the full experience I had the regular along with a mimosa that was so good. We came for Valentine's Day and were very shocked to see how long we waited even though we had a reservation. But the place is huge and the workers are fantastic so it's hard to get mad at the wait once you're eating. Once you're seated time doesn't exist. The meat experience is amazing and it's one of a kind no matter how many other places imitate it. The drinks here are fantastic. So great that I forgot my entire purse at this place! It's quite spacious and cavernous, beautifully decorated. For the meat rotation, their PORK BELLY absolutely captured my heart. No, NOT the friend pork chops, which is a separate option, but the FRIED PORK BELLY. Lightly crispy outside with an INSANELY melt-in-your-mouth fatty interior goodness and delectably seasoned. The highlight meat of the hour. Runner-ups were the very tasty lamb option, and the baked chicken legs (simple, yet so tender and well-flavored). I believe they had some sort of cocktail special with passionfruit, lime, or strawberry-something flavored options where the "mixologist" put on a little show of pouring and shaking the drinks on a cart in front of the table. Very reasonably-priced for a place like this at $15 each, and they were strong yet delicious. Multiple rounds were ordered. The final act was them bringing a complimentary slice of chocolate mousse cake with sprinkles to our birthday girl as we sang, who then passed it around for us to share. Now, I was quite stuffed after the meal (and the extra servings of PORK BELLY), but one spoonful of this decadent dessert and suddenly, I had more room, and I'll admit I shamelessly took over the rest of the birthday girl's cake, with pleasure. However it was my mom and sister's first time. The staff were extremely attentive and knowledgeable of all the meats, salad bar and drinks. The salad bar was nothing special, however they did have rice and beans at this spot which they didn't have in another chain I've gone to. I ended up ordering the bone marrow which I shared with my mom, one word - DELICIOUS. I was honestly surprised. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, however the tables were way too close to each other and walking around people in their chairs and waiters coming through was a bit tight. I felt like we were always on top of others. Everything was great once the bill came. During our meal, there was a waiter going around table to table making a drink and only asked if we were interested in one. The waiter never said it would be included in our bill. We thought it was a complimentary drink so it would have been nice to have known. Regardless of that, our waiter actually gave my sister a dessert free of charge for her birthday which I thought was extremely nice! Great option for group dining! I reserved a table for 20 via open table on short notice and was able to get it. The restaurant has 3 floors of dining space, and their market table aka salad bar buffet is on the Basement level, so I recommend getting seated on that level. My only complaint is the meats don't come around very often even when your card is flipped to green. This wasn't the case in the WTC location. My favorite cut of meat is their picanha and pork belly. The service here was surprisingly bad, with the real problem being that I basically couldn't get them to serve me filet, and many people came around but I couldn't for the life of me tell who was responsible for our table, if anyone. The full experience comes with a number of cheaper (but still good) cuts of beef but also filet, and it felt like the staff was coached to do anything to avoid serving the filet. Each other cut of meat came around multiple times, but no filet. I asked a waitress for it, and she disappeared and never returned for the rest of the meal. I had to make a second request to a different waitress to finally get one small piece of filet. Having visited this location several times prior to the pandemic, I was pleased to find that the service remains consistently attentive and welcoming. And the cut of lamb was not gamey enough for me. The market place table has some fair options to choose from. Overall, Fogo de Chão in the Manhattan location is a fun place if you're in the area and doing touristy things in the area / seeing a show nearby . At around $80 per person, I found the experience to be on the expensive side, especially considering the overall quality of the meats and the market table. I had submitted a review about how disappointed I was that my daughter's 18th birthday was so severely disregarded after I had told the person taking the reservation how important her big milestone was for me, and why we had picked that particular place as the celebration. The restaurant posted a public acknowledgement saying "how seriously they took this kind of thing and to send them an email to discuss further," only to get totally ghosted. This felt even worse, because it meant the message was just the "front face" so they could look good to the public, but they really don't care.
