Kaskade
Michelle N.

This place is pretty awesome. My friends and I came here for Kaskade's special appearance last night and I wish I had heard about this place sooner. We got there around 10:30 pm and there was still parking left. Since this venue was small, they only sold tickets in advance to a limited number of people. I really liked how they regulated the area. To park in the parking lot you had to show your ticket. It definitely warded off any people trying to sneak in or park in the area to dine at the restaurants close by. We got inside pretty quick (I'd say within 5-10 min) and I really liked the layout of the place. By the entrance there is a lounge of couches where people could just sit down and chill, then there is the dance floor, pretty small sized but it was never suffocatingly packed like how Sutra gets. Then there is a pretty long bar and an outside patio that sells tacos for $1. I tried them and they were delicious! The bathrooms were okay. There were only two stalls for the ladies restroom and around 11-12 before Kaskade came on it was crowded and I probably had to wait about 10 minutes. However after that, there was no line. The only reason why I am giving this place four stars is because the bartender wouldn't give us cups of water. We had been purchasing drinks all night and he would only sell us bottled water $4 each. How hard is it to get some tap water? :(

Ask the Community - Focus Tuesdays

Is it open on weekends?

No Silly! That's why it's called Focus "Tuesdays"! The Circle Bar is open on the weekends, but it's only on Tuesday nights that you will experience the legendary house music club that is Focus!

What exactly is focus Tuesdays? Is it edm every Tuesday or something? How much is it to get in?

What it is, exactly, is the best and longest running Tuesday night House Music club in America! It's awesome. Prices vary depending on the night, but it's always reasonable and fair. Come on out and dance!

Is Focus a regular nightclub everyday except for their events on Tuesdays?

No. Focus is a Tuesday night only club night, which is held at the Circle Bar in H.B. Now the Circle has other events on other nights, if that's what you meant, but Focus is ONLY on Tuesdays!… Read more

If you have some time while browsing The Lab during the day, I recommend stopping by for a drink! It's also nice to include in your barhopping itinerary in the evening since there are a number of breweries around too. I've had mixed experiences with the bartenders. Luckily, the gentleman manning the bar during my most recent visit was very friendly. Drinks are always great. I've tried a variety of drinks from the menu here, but my favorites are: -Love in Drunk, a lovely cocktail with cucumber and grapefruit flavors that create a fresh watermelon taste when mixed together -Bee's Knees, short but strong and sweet -London Mule, very herbal thanks to the gin and very refreshing

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the drinks were wonderful. The staff really stood out to me. They were attentive, kind, and professional throughout the night. At one point, a patron started to get a bit too tipsy, and the staff handled it with such care and respect while making sure everyone else didn't feel awkward in the situation. It was clear they genuinely care about their guests' experience. Overall, such a great spot and we will definitely come back.

The atmosphere could have been cool, but every 5 minutes the bright hallway light blasted through the western-style swinging door and completely ruined the dark speakeasy vibe. The drinks were tiny and overpriced. We ordered two Old Fashioneds and the giant ice cubes took up almost the entire glass. Larger than a normal square ice cube- a little taller. But it seriously felt like they split one drink into two. Barely a shot in each glass, and the cocktails themselves were just so-so. Very syrup-y flavor. Definitely not "bespoke" or unique the was the server was upselling us. Service started good but when he got busy it went downhill. And by busy he got (1) 5 top.....He was excited about explaining the menu but then never once came back to check on us. When we finally flagged him down and asked for the check, he just dropped the handheld payment terminal on the table, walked away, grabbed it when we finished paying, and said absolutely nothing... no "thank you," no "have a great night," nothing. And this was after we still tipped 20%. Definitely not worth the money, service, or atmosphere. We won't be back.

When I said "Bar" and "Santa Ana" in the Yelp search - of course it said "Club 616" in the first…read morespot - OF COURSE IT SAID 616!!! I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. Thank you Jason and Mike B to bringing this to 4th St and supporting the community that was already here - and for building a community for the future. Thank you to Christina and Brandon for always having amazing pictures, decor, and fun events at 616 that help introduce new folks into this great spot. Time is short. Learn about Root Beer Whiskey. We made a reservation for a Saturday night and were so excited and it really did not disappoint from start to finish. We got the puff bread with cultured butter with honey and furikake. OMG. The salmon crudo was good, not blown away, but the caprese. Mmm! It came in a ponzu sauce and was this beautiful blend between Italian and Japanese flavors. So good. For our mains, my husband got the Seafood mafaldine and I opted for the Mala lamb pizza. This was such a unique pizza flavor, the hot honey sauce it came with tasted like a spicy, sweet curry and the pizza itself was delicious. Crispy crust, a little bit of cilantro for freshness. So good. To top it all off, we got the Blueberry pavlova and hazelnut cake. Both of these were incredibly indulgent and absolutely worth it. I think we were full for a whole day off this meal. To wash it down, I had the Highball with Suntory whiskey and a Calamansi Sidecar. I loved the assortment of Japanese whisky here, the cocktail menu was more tastefully curated than just trendy. On top of an excellent meal that I will be salivating over for a while, our server Danny was great! Super attentive, friendly, helpful and just a delight. Highly recommend!

We came with reservations on Saturday night before Mother's Day. The first thing I thought when I walked in was that there was a live band playing with bad speakers because the music was so loud. But when I saw there was no band, I thought maybe their speakers were broken because the music had that scratchiness to it. Then I realized it was a DJ spinning vinyls with foreign music from the 1950's with that scratchy vintage sound on full blast (think shrill trumpets and shrill voices.) Now don't get me wrong, the music was wonderful and very unique ( again, a lot of foreign songs) with a few I even knew...my husband and I loved most of the songs that were played. HOWEVER not when it's so loud that we can't even hear our own thoughts! I felt annoyed within the first 5 minutes of being seated when my family and I had to keep repeating ourselves, and my husband even went to check the rest of the place to see if it was any quieter anywhere else, but it was blaring music everywhere. I ended up ordering for my whole table of 8 people because we couldn't even hear each other over the music to make suggestions on what to order. My adult kids (all in their 20's) kept apologizing for recommending this place for my mother's day dinner. But oh my, the food was delicious---practically everything I ordered was amazing! OMG the hangar steak skewers, pork belly skewers, iberico pork secreto steak, little gem salad, and their bread with goatmilk -butter were my faves! We also had the short ribs and the pork fried rice with prawns but they were mid...nothing to write home about. This would've been a great place to come have a drink at the bar for happy hour or even late at night on a weekend since they open until 1am on thursday, friday, saturday... but don't come for dinner unless you bring earplugs and learn sign language or know how to read lips because there will be no conversations over dinner unless it's just to the person sitting next to you. Even so, I noticed the young couple next to us looking very annoyed-- they got up and left after quickly finishing up their one cocktail while the speakers blared out an instrumental piece of a girl moaning the whole time until she climaxed. Heck---I'll have whatever SHE'S having lol So plz keep the music down several notches until after 10pm, and let the rest of us enjoy our dinner so that we can sing praises on how delicious everything was. Until you do, I think I'll cross this place off my list for now and revisit again sometime in the FAR future.
