I've been in and out of South Bay for business/personal reasons for almost 15 years, and have been seeing Ray for almost as long after a friend recommended his talented fingers. My physical therapist recommended Ray to massage my wrist and arm following a scooter accident. We scheduled a couple home visits and each was an hour well spent. His years of experience, as well as knowledge of musculature and anatomy, assist Ray in providing one of the best experiences in massage. And he can weave these questions into everyday conversation, mentally relaxing you, making you comfortable as well. For those 30 minutes of escape and sanctuary, I am free to recover before the weekend (Ray is a mainstay at our company every Friday.) I've learned a lot about massage as well, as Ray will tell you what happens with your body throughout the week, and how he will fix those aches and pains. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through a weekend without pressing that Reset button, one of Ray's massages. I have been going to Ray for massage for about a year. He is amazing--professional, experienced, strong, funny and overall just terrific at his job. I have previously tried massage but was not impressed or satisfied. Ray changed all that! There may be cheaper massage but I cannot imagine better massage. My younger daughter jumped on me in bed once when she was about 3 years old. Nine years later my back was still hurting. I thought it would hurt for the rest of my life. Ray was able to fix it! Six years ago I completed two years of very aggressive cancer treatment. It saved my life but left me with terrible joint pain. Again I thought I would just have to live with the pain, but after one of Ray's massages, I am usually pain-free for five days. My older daughter was a gymnast but had to leave the sport due to a back injury. Recently we learned the back injury had healed, but she still has pain. Ray was able to feel where her muscles had developed abnormally to compensate for her injury. He did massage and also showed her exercises to do at home. He is continuing to work with her on this problem, and I am sure that eventually he will have her back to normal. ***update: back pain completely relieved and still normal 5 years later*** Other positives: He lets me choose table or chair (I usually prefer table these days). No need to get undressed--he works through my clothes. He is very strong and is able to get to my muscles even through I am overweight. The first few times I went to Ray I was just generally sore, and he always worked out the kinks and made everything relax - it was wonderful. When I went to him with a dislocated rib (ouch!) he was not only able to tell me what I had done, but loosen up the muscles around it enough to let me breath again. Recently pampered myself with an hour massage from Ray. He's so relaxing and calm to be around that I calm down too (hyper type-A). He does house calls, and brings his own table, so there's nothing for you to do but enjoy your massage. One thing I especially appreciate, as a larger person, is that Ray has an extra-wide table rated for us Big Folks, as well as a chest cushion and knee blocks. That makes laying face down vastly more comfortable, whether you're fat or just pregnant! Ray's draping is professional, and he will work entirely through a drape if you request it. He'll chat easily and entertainingly with you if you like, or work quietly if you prefer it. I've always felt very safe and respected during our sessions, sometimes even falling asleep briefly. I was the first - and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much in a short 15 minutes. I'm a believer in massage for its health and wellness benefits, but in 15 minutes? Really? The answer is, YES. Really! He quickly found my areas of tension and worked them out with the right amount of pressure - which for me, is pretty firm. I've been happily going to Ray for about 14 years now. He even came over to give me a message the night before my wedding so I could sleep. He's always professional and, as a science geek, I love that he can get as technical as I need him be. Ray REALLY listens. "How does it feel to be you today?" He often asks. He makes each session uniquely suited to whatever he needs to and he manages time very effectively so he gets to all the priority areas. He's learned a wide variety of techniques so we can do regular message, a really deep tissue message when needed or even intense stretching, all depending on what my body needs and my comfort level. He's helped me to recover from several surgeries and the fact that he brings his own gear to my house (or to work, or conventions) really helped me to heal. He's entertaining and effective. Really a great guy to know. Bottom line, I've never had a bad massage from Ray and I've referred many of our friends to him without any complaints. My back was spasming three times a day, my lower back and leg nerves hurt so bad I couldn't put on my shoes without crying, and I couldn't walk more than a quarter of a mile without squatting to stretch my back and rest my legs on my two mile walk home from work. I was working retail over Christmas and my back and legs were a mess from lifting and stretching. I've been searching for a strong massage therapist who has great touch, and found Ray. Due to multiple congenital defects of my spine and being up and about all day every day with my hyperactive child, my shoulders, neck and back has rock hard knots causing headaches that ibuprofen and naproxen could not handle. I need deep tissue/trigger point massages in the right areas, and Ray is as good as they come.
