When having my boyfriend and his momma pick me up after a work trip to have a weekend to visit them, they suggested this location for lunch before we made the drive back to Eustis where she lives. They had mentioned seeing some good Yelp reviews, and the menu looked intriguing. I had already had breakfast at a great locally owned place, so my appetite was smaller. What We Ordered: - Oyster Po Boy: my boyfriend and his momma split this, and they both said it was okay though they HATED the gumbo. Very unfortunate as when splitting they had to pay for an additional portion of it. - Blackened Mahi Sandwich: this was recommended by our waitress who started out fantastic, but ultimately disappeared after food delivered so I went without a drink for quite some time. I did eat enough a portion of mine before running out of coke, so I had to pause eating as I need a liquid as I eat. I had split this with my boyfriend, so he enjoyed his fully warm. Mine was good for those first few bites, and really enjoyed the fries. They remind me of the filmstrip fries you can get in Disney's California Adventure. - Coke + Lime: if the machine is calibrated, this is always a win for me! It definitely made a travel day better. Sadly, between the waitress being inattentive after the food was delivered and there being quite the unsavory show being played, this was a miss for me. Who plays Steve Wilkos in a restaurant? It's the modern day Jerry Springer show. I just find that baffling to be quite honest, though we did get a chuckle at it while I waiting desperately for a refill so I could eat the remaining portion of my meal.
What an odd amalgam of themes or a lack there of Some coastal decor and a huge grizzly bear thats been taxidermied handing out in back. It looks like it might have been a steakhouse before and this is new? Anyway that aside, we had good service and food that was bland. Salt would have helped but there was none on the tables. And if asked for from the waitress, took longer than thr entree/side was around for. We probably wont be back
We came in at 3 p.m. and it wasn't busy. The ambiance was a bit flat. The service was prompt and attentive. We started with grouper fingers; lightly breaded, fried, and seasoned well. Then, I had the Cajun shrimp pasta, which was flavorful, but the pasta was overcooked. I should've requested it al dente. BF had the grilled fish wrap. It was disappointing; the serving was small and flavorless. The side of collard greens was okay, but it was expensive for $5.95. The food is pedestrian fare and uninspired. The best part was the grouper fingers appetizer. Overall, it was underwhelming for a birthday lunch and pricey for subpar food.

I got the grilled fish wrap and it was okay but as I ate more it got very fishy tasting. Like too much!! My friend got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and he said it was okay. The fries are really good. The water was kind of nasty tasting so I got a lot of lemons.
Stopped in after picking my daughter up from the airport. She had the brisket platter and I had the shrimp grits and tails. Both were very good. Our Waitress was amazing.A few guys at the bar were kind of loud but once they left the place was very enjoyable.

I ended up ordering the surf and turf -- a strip steak and sautéed shrimp. Unfortunately, the steak was cold, tough, and full of gristle. The ranch dressing was good, and the collard greens were probably the best part of the meal. My husband ordered the romaine wedge salad. It could have been good, but the plate was too small, so everything kept falling off -- not well presented at all. The restaurant itself was clean, but the service was lacking. The fish dip was just okay, and the pita chips served with it were not good. Overall, not a great experience, and I would not return.
Great drafts and quick, friendly service! I sat at the bar for a quick beer and dinner. I'm a hazy IPA type of girl, so I had to order the Hop Lobstah. It was so nice I had to get it twice :) I ordered a clam chowder as my starter. It was suuppppper good. The bacon pieces in it were peak. For my entree, I was looking for something just a little bit on the healthy side. After talking with the bartender, who convinced me their mahi is the best, I ordered the grilled mahi wrap. I was honestly super surprised with how good it is! I would absolutely come back here and order the same things :)
Great place but sone caveats: - we arrived Dec. 29 to find it absolutely slammed. The greeter cautioned us food would take a bit. We were at a nearby hotel with no car (awaiting a cruise). It's there or nothing. -the server was excellent. Our beer and water came quickly. -30 minutes and another beer in, still no food but plenty of attention. -our meals arrived. Food: very good shrimp po boy and chicken salad. Shrimp was plentiful. The fries were excellent (mix between steak fries and wedges). Ambiance: fun place. Service and honesty along with the food sound bring us back.
Wow this place really impressed me ! I came in for lunch right when the opened around 11am ish and I was greeted right away! I sat at the bar so I can try the in house IPA's and they were great! I didn't know what to eat but I wanted to literally try everything on the menu lol I decided on trying the clam chowder and fire cracker shrimp for my app and let me tell you !! YOU NEED TO ORDER THE BOWL not the cup of clam chowder because it was BEYOND BOMB I wish I would've ordered the bowl! REGRETTED that right away but it was good enough ! The northsider burger was delicious ! I asked to add fried jalapeños to it which gave it the right amount of kick ! I am so happy I came in to try this place I will 100% be back !
Fairly big space inside and they had outdoor seating but I didn't look at it. We were seated immediately and they took our drink orders. We were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. I had a variety platter and my daughter had gator tails. Everything was delicious. I would eat here again.
Took our daughter here after airport pick up. Great staff. Quick service. Cold beers. Hot and crispy food. Big menu. Tastey shareables. Reasonable prices. Try them!
I stopped in on my way to the airport to grab lunch. There's a large bar and plenty of tables available for any size group. I sat at the bar and was immediate greeted by the nice bartender. I ordered the shrimp po boy with fries. My food came out pretty fast. The sauce that's served with the po boy is delicious. I was even dipping my fries in it. The shrimp were fried perfectly and there were enough on the sandwich to ensure you get a piece of shrimp in each bite. I will add the Flying Fish Taphouse to the list of places I visit when in Jacksonville.
Very convenient seafood close to my hotel and airport. I sat at the bar for lunch and had one of their house made beers which was solid. Had a bowl of clam chowder which was different than most I've had since this was darker colored but still tasted pretty good. The star was the mahi sandwich which was a huge piece of fish and tasted great. Cool spot

I'm sad. I'm sad this place isn't in St Augustine, or have a location closer to St Augustine. Ever since I discovered this place, I try to add it in when I'm in the area. Unfortunately, I'm not in the area that much, and only once did I make the journey just to come here. What is the draw, you may ask? Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, great vibes! , That said, every meal I have had here has been delicious. The beer is pretty darn good & cold too! Of course, with the long drive...ya gotta limit it. But it's worth it for anything on the menu. I don't know where to start food-wise, I am trying to eat my way around the menu. The gator tail and fish dip are two of my favorites for small bites/appetizers. The Elk burger, the Taphouse burger, and the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich are always amazing....and then there's the cole slaw...yummy! Delicious food, and they have more than just sandwiches. The menu offers a little something different. The atmosphere and vibe are always inviting, and the staff is super friendly. The prices are fair, portions are ample, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is fun too! Not to mention, they give a veteran discount with proof of ID. What more can you ask for? Well, I know what I can ask for! To the owners: pretty please, with sugar on top, consider opening a location in St. Augustine. Not in the downtown area, but the folks north of town need something; they need you! Around the Palencia & Kensington area, off US 1 to be exact...or anywhere nearby in that area. The folks there would love something they can walk to, ride bikes to, maybe even use a golf cart to get to...and yes, a short drive is good too. Jus' sayin'! Good food and chill atmosphere. Had live music which was pretty good. Service was good too. My tea never ran out. I had the Swamp Platter and enjoyed it. Seasoned and tasted good. read more
Overall, a great experience that is very close to the Jacksonville airport. I suppose if you are heading to the airport early or need something post-flight, this could be a good option, but it is close enough to 95 that the detour isn't bad if you are just passing through as well. Great service. The place feels brand new and I assume it is. The BLACKENED MAHI SANDWICH - Blackened mahi fillet, served with lettuce, tomato & remoulade on a bun, with a side Caesar salad was great. They have their own brews too, and the one I had was super good. Easy parking, spacious seating, in summary, a great stop on a long trip. read more
My husband and I are flying out of the airport this afternoon and decided to have lunch at this restaurant before our flight. We had driven by it dozens of times but had never tried it until today. It was a good decision. The menu has plenty of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. I opted for the Southern Chicken salad. It came with bite size pieces of fried chicken, croutons, iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, red onions, carrot straws and cilantro ranch dressing. The chicken was very tasty. My husband had the Taphouse Platter. It was either 2 or 3 fried seafood items along with fries. He chose shrimp and clams, and he substituted vegetables for fries. He really enjoyed the fried shrimp. It is a big space with plenty of tables as well as bar seating. read more

We were here once before whet they first opened. Haven't been back just because it hasn't come up when we were in the area. It looks like they have live music most nights. A guy named Brad Wells was there tonight and really good. We started with peel and eat shrimp. They were huge, perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Iv was expecting them cold but they were piping hot. That was good too. Our food came right behind the shrimp. This was a disappointment. We felt rushed to get to our entree so it didn't get cold. This is the only reason for the 4 stars. I had the fish and chips. The fish was flaky and moist. Not many places can do that without resulting in greasy fish. It was perfect. The fries were cut like I have never seen. Think twisted steak fries. They had a great flavor as well. We will definitely be back, i just hope they can get the app/entree balance corrected. read more

When we got here we were seated right away. The host was also our waitress, she was very attentive. We ordered the shrimp appetizer that came out so fresh! The shrimp were large and you could taste the spices! They were cooked perfectly! We had a live singer and this is a pretty normal thing. He was good, name was Brad Wells. He sang older songs but of course they worked for me! I ordered the pick 3, which came out and was huge!! I ordered Shrimp, oysters, and calamari. The shrimp were also large and the flavor of the batter was great! Again cooked very well. The oysters were by far the best fried oysters that I have had. The calamari was also large but I thought they were able bit more chewy than normal, it's the only thing I was not a huge fan of. read more

Service was great and they had live music on a Thursday night! Catfish sandwich was great and also the fries. Shrimp Scampi was the special, but did not have much of a taste other than garlic and pasta water. Note I love garlic but it had no buttery taste other than plain garlic. Stick with the fried fish. read more

Generous portions and yummy food from the Freedom Fries and Onion Rings to the Pulled Pork on a Brioche Bun to the Fish Wrap!! 5-Star Review for Flying Fish Taphouse on Yelp Absolutely Outstanding - A Hidden Gem in Jacksonville! From the moment we walked into Flying Fish Taphouse, we knew we were in for a treat. This upscale casual spot near the airport combines a welcoming beachy vibe with top-notch seafood and craft cocktails that had us coming back for more in our minds long after we left! Let's start with the drinks - their dirty martinis are hands-down the best I've ever had. Perfectly chilled, extra briny with just the right amount of olive juice kick, and garnished to perfection. They were strong, smooth, and utterly addictive - the kind that make you savor every sip while toasting to good times. The appetizers were pure perfection. The chicken wings were crispy on the outside, juicy and tender inside, with sauces that packed incredible flavor (we couldn't stop dipping!). And the calamari? No rubbery texture here; it was fresh, flavorful, and served with a zesty dipping sauce that elevated it to next-level status. Easily some of the best calamari in Jacksonville!
