The food is always solid here. It is very consistent and always fresh. The service is good. You order your food then wait for your buzzer to ring. The location is clean and decorated with a fishing theme. I always order the salmon and you must add the garlic butter. The salad greens are always fresh. Excellent seafood spot.

We no idea ‍ Memphis had good fried fish like this. I was kind of sketchy since i always hear about the bbq. I was like what the heck. When I tell you that fried catfish was so good and season to perfection. Who would've known. You walk in and place your order and be seared with one of those alert when food is ready. What a good experience.

Since my husband wanted fish for lunch and hadn't been before, I decided to have lunch here. The ambiance is like a fishing bait n tackle shack in Louisiana.. The service is fairly quick, especially considering fried/grilled to order. The prices are reasonable and the food never disappoints. On this visit, I ordered the grilled catfish with red beans n rice n grilled veggies, my husband had the 4piece catfish plate.. They also have beer and frozen margaritas.

Nice size restaurant with plenty of seating. The food was great and still hot because we got our food to go. I ordered the shrimp and catfish, fries and hush puppies. Some others ordered grilled catfish, roasted vegetables and red beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their food. The service was great as well. Overall I give the Flying Fish 5 Stars.

I love the ambience, the music and the vibe. It definitely isn't a "hole in the wall" as it is a pretty decent sized restaurant, but it looks and feels like it could be. They had great music playing, the staff were great, and the food was pretty tasty as well. I ordered the "Nashville hot sandwich" with fried catfish. I'll be honest, I've never really eaten "catfish" until the South, and it has made me a fan. Especially this sandwich itself. There were some hush puppies that had rested on a bed of fries. It was my first time experiencing those and I liked them. They had a hue of sweetness to them. Another meal that was ordered was chicken tenders along with fries, which were pretty good too if you were not feeling very adventurous. Now I did not order the Expresso martini, but it was too cute not to post. I am personally not a fan of these drinks so I urge you to try it for yourself. This is a place I would frequent often, if I had the chance too.

I have been to Flying Fish in Bentonville, AR and had a great time but the experience in Memphis seemed more fun and memorable. Maybe it's because I was dining with someone who loves food adventures just as much as I do. I love they have the flying fish mounted on the walls that helps create a very casual and carefree ambience. I would not come here for an intimate date but for fun, casual dining experience with family or friends, a group, or with someone that loves Cajun comfort food. There's a cost of flow of people aka line worthy restaurant. We luckily arrived before the dinner rush, which meant we had a smaller line to wait. After we ordered food and the cashier gave us a buzzer from when the food is ready, but the wait was short. The employees were very helpful and generous in keeping customers happy with the condiments for everyone's meal and willingness to help a customer choose what to get off their menu. I had ordered and shared the following items and honestly, we could have purchased more but we were too happy with what we had ordered. Next time, we'll order more and perhaps try other options. - Cajun Platter( served with rice, fried gator, crawfish jambalaya, and 2 pairs of frog legs), Before tonight, my wife swore that she did not like frog legs due to her belief. it was too much work for the amount of meat on the bones. Now, she believes that frog legs are pretty yummy with the legs here being tender and fall off the bone delish. The fried gator was so tender and delicious, and we savored every bite. We did add hot sauce to our crawfish jambalaya because it enhanced the deliciousness and we try not to eat it too fast to avoid the disappointment of it being gone. - Additional items/ sides( coleslaw, hush puppies, and pickled green tomatoes We enjoyed each of our sides, but coleslaw was a little bland in our opinion. We needed to add salt and pepper to give it a little umph.

    Fried Oyster Poor Boy

Started walking downtown and the sign in the front caught my attention.l and I'm sooooo glad it did. There is a fast food chain who shall remain nameless that I was going to go to for some fish but after stopping here....THE LORT knew I needed to eat GOOD! I ordered a poor boy but after seeing another customer get the gumbo I had to jump on the GRAVY train...literally and figuratively! Because this gumbo was GUMBOOING! The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly! The rice was the perfect consistency and the roux gave a stew gravy taste but worked perfectly for me. I was suppose to take my food to go but I couldn't help but sit down as the blues music played in the background. Something about this atmosphere was EVERYTHING I didn't know I needed in the middle of my workday! THANK YOU FLYING FISH! Oh and let's. It forget the customer service because I THOUGHT I said oyster poor boy but the cashier rang me up for a catfish and they prepared the catfish but when I realized it wasn't an oysters sandwich he swapped that thang out and got my oyster sandwich made and walked it over to my table! I'm just saying. Oh and I could have eaten at an open window and enjoyed the sunny weather. Just saying.

My family visited Memphis and stayed in the downtown area. We were walking to a bbq spot when we stumbled upon this spot. Since we had someone in the group that does not eat meat, we decided to try this instead. Now looking around at the decor, I was skeptical. Some of the seating definitely needs updating. However, I watched one of the workers bring up some whole fried catfish and it looked great. I decided to get the filet fried catfish with fried shrimp. My daughter got the hamburger and my husband got the whole fried catfish. Let me tell you, I'm from Louisiana so I know good seafood, heck good food overall! This fish was seasoned and fried wonderfully! The fish had a slight cornmeal like texture which I love! Everything was made to order and was piping hot and fresh! My mom had the grilled tilapia which she enjoyed and lobster soup. My dad had the fish and gumbo, he didn't have any complaints. If I'm ever in the area I would definitely visit them again!

Nice people. Good food. Fries Could have been warmer. Key lime pie was just okay. I'd eat here again though.

Grilled Salmon "Snappy" with rice & beans and grilled crisp squash
    Kimberli B.

You know when the music makes the food dance in your mouth? That's what's happening here. The atmosphere is casual counter service with the friendliest staff around. The Grilles Salmon made Snappy was Cajun-spicy and so flavorful and tender! The squash were crisp grilled and the beans & rice took me back to south Louisiana. I tried the Tropical Beer Hug IPA, which paired perfectly with my meal. Gotta come back here when I'm in town for work next month.

I ordered the fried combo basket nothing came with lettuce or cold slaw but yet it's on my tray I don't understand why would you place someone food on a dirty tray and it's visibly disgusting! Fish is still slimy needs to fried longer customer service wasn't the best the man ignored me while I placed my order I had to repeat my order 3x I'll never come back

Today I ordered through uber eats because DoorDash kept saying the restaurant was too busy to place my order. It's unfortunately more expensive ordering that way than it is in DoorDash. So I ended up paying fifteen dollars more. All in all the 15 dollars was well worth it. The food here is so good. I ordered the grilled red snapper with the beans and rice and the grilled vegetables. The red snapper also came with a sauce. I chose the chimichiri sauce (sp). It was so so good. The red snapper was grilled to perfection and everything on my plate complemented each other. Everyone who got food here was pleased. The fried catfish is delicious as well. Minus one I didn't get enough sauce and they forgot my drinks and the mishap with DoorDash. But all in all I can't wait to eat here again.

When in Memphis, eat like the Blues. We just came in off a Mississippi River Cruise and headed for the best Catfish Shack in town. We just ate our first Cajun Fish Shack Feast. Fried gator nuggets, frog legs, catfish, fried shrimp, shrimp kabobs and beans n rice. Yummy! If we're ever back, we're coming back!

If I were to really put the time and effort into understanding and then describing my favorite…read morekinds of places to eat it would tell a story, and that story would likely end up sounding like The Second Line feels to me. I feel like this place embodies the essence of my inner peace somehow. It was born as a overflow bar for Iris from the lore I hear. To me, as I see it, this place became Chef Kelly's escape to reality as far as food, atmosphere, and service are concerned. I think this place presents his personality in his relaxed more chill version. If you have ever been to Iris, specifically, when it was next door, you would understand what I mean. When it was the tiny place it had some kind of pretentiousness to it that just turned me off. I only ate there once. It would take weeks to get a reservation before he moved it and the constant limelight had to be a lot of pressure. This place though.... I could come here three times a week no issue. In fact, I actually wish that I could eat here three days a week. Second Line is moving soon. They are going back to being next door to Iris in the newer Laurelwood location. In some ways I wonder if Chef needs that jovial comfort of a place next to Iris to keep him grounded. I do hope the charm of this is somehow transferred, but looking out the windows into Cooper the last time I was here Dec '25, just will not be a possibility in that shopping center it's headed to. That will be lost. He's a great guy! Hell of a Chef! World class employer! Tremendous philanthropist! A leader in the City of Memphis! Please go support him in the new location. Now.... All that BS and I ain't said shit about the food and why I like this place so much. If you scroll through my photos you will see almost every dish that has ever been on the menu here. Some are fantastic! All are very good! I have had nothing but great food here for many years! I have only had one bad meal here. Catfish Picante and it is long gone it seems! I wrote a long ass draft I never published (thank god), after that visit. I do believe it was my first time here and I almost didn't return. What a waste that would have been. My favorites now are Sweet Heat Oysters, Chicken Livers with pepper jelly, that lobster knuckle sandwich from waaaay back, spinach Madeline, and of course... the Red Beans and Rice. The desserts are always killer as well. I guess I'll catch you at the new place soon! Love you guys!! '25 - Finale

When we're traveling, we're not buying alcohol, or we brought our own, but something made the city told them:, no alcohol, or that they served to minors. That's a red flag, to me, because we don't know, what others they violated, if any! The staff were friendly. Our waitress allowed us to study the menu before deciding, since I don't really want to eat seafood with my hands, wearing church clothes. It was decided to buy whatever we feel like eating, without using tools to crack open, and have a picnic (hopefully with a table), in our suite. And have a quiet (not noisy like here) dinner to ourselves. (We did have a table for 2. Perfect!) We ordered, we told our waitress we're having our 51st Wed Anniversary this year. Crabcakes, Gumbo, Sweet Potato Fries, Corn on the cob, Fried Catfish Basket and Onion Rings. She remembered all that without writing! She did went back for condiments. With complimentary Chocolate Volcano cake for both of us. Thank you! The Gumbo, was perfect for our breakfast, enough for 4 servings. I had some with meals last night, we shared this morning, and enough for another meal. (We have a cooler). Everything else was delicious, perfectly seasoned, the catfish was packed in with the crabcake (which has shredded lettuce, slices of tomatoes), and it was still crispy! The Sweet Potato, packed by itself, was limpy, and so was the onion rings. We still ate them. We are just driving across the street, and we both agreed: Not crispy at all! I love the corn on the cob, and I love the Cajun seasoning, I thought I was having just buttered corn. This was a bonus, for me! And I usually don't like Cajun-style because in the past, they were always too spicy for me. But, Gumbo was my 1st choice for anything Cajun.

After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

When we were taken to the third level, the staff attempted to seat all seven of us at the bar, which was not what we reserved. After objecting, we were moved to a makeshift table on the second level. These were lightweight outdoor wicker-style tables, unstable and not suitable for indoor dining. The tables moved constantly, glasses nearly tipped over, and there was no room to sit comfortably. Our waitress did her best, but she was clearly overbooked and stretched too thin. Our reservation was at 7:00 PM but not seated until 7:35 PM. We were given only three glasses of water, and the remaining four were not brought until after I finally complained due to the lack of service. Service continued to be extremely slow. We did not receive our food until 8:59 PM. The food itself was also disappointing: Two guests ordered the salmon with scallops, but the dishes arrived without scallops. We were later told they had run out and were given shrimp instead, without prior notice. One guest ordered the lamb chops, which were severely overcooked. Despite a $530 bill, no attempt was made by management to offer restitution or meaningfully address the situation. While we received apologies and told next time I come in to ask for our waitress or the assistant manager and they would make sure it's right, the overall experience--from seating to service to food--was unacceptable. This was the worst 'fine-dining' experience I've ever had and I would not return.
