Just has a wonderful deep tissue massage after hurting my neck this weekend. I have not been here since covid and was worried due to the reviews but was pleasantly surprised how good the massage was, Wendy got out all my kinks in my neck and lower back and did a lot of very deep release work. This used to be my go-to spot on a weekly basis several years ago pre-covid. I had phoned in and booked a 1 hr. full body massage. They had an opening in 10 minutes, so I booked it to Scott's Valley. When I got there, the usual menu said 50$ for a full body massage. The lady behind the desk recommended the 75$ one hour massage. I said no, I'm not trying to spend 75$, she laughed at me. Then she demanded I pay first .... I've always been charged at the end. That way it gives them the opportunity to get a nice tip. I was brought to an area with two beds that was really out in the open. She said roll your pant legs up. I was wearing skinny jeans and that was not possible. I agreed to take them off. She stands there and stares at me, then leaves and comes back with a bucket of water. I asked what it was for, she said your foot massage. I reminded her I was getting a full body massage. She pulled the curtain down and left. I proceeded to remove my clothes. With only my nickers on, she comes in and says what are you doing? I said, "getting ready for my full body massage". She said this was the foot massage area. She said I had to pay an extra $10 for full body, so I just thought fuck it and agreed. She said go in the room and walked away, I didn't see what room she went into, mind you, I'm basically naked. I was not given the opportunity to put my clothes back on nor did she close the curtain for me to do so, she left it wide open. I looked down the hall and saw her stick her head out of a room. I quickly ran past several other massage rooms and dashed into the room she was in. I had to run down the hall in just my thong with just an arm full of clothes for coverage. I felt VERY uncomfortable. As I'm putting my belongings down trying to keep some level of modesty, she stood over me asking for the money. She took the sheet from me and told me to lay on the bed. I asked her if she could give me a minute so I could finish getting ready, she closed the door and laid on the table and put the extra $10 on the stool by my head. I am not a shy person, I just felt that hovering over me while I was trying to get ready and asking for money was very unprofessional. The massage was a whole different story! I should've read the reviews before going back to this place. But I felt that it should be the same as when I used to go there. Now that I'm home (sore as hell!) I read someone started their review with "don't come here unless you like to be beat up" and that is exactly what I got! She ran her elbow up and down my back repetitively to the point where I went numb. I told her to ease up multiple times. When I was told to flip over at the end of the massage, she pounded on my thigh as she was taking anger out from her day on me. After the massage I got dressed and I pulled a small tip out of my wallet before going into the lobby. She greeted me with a tiny cup of water, I handed her the tip. She again laughed and said we charge 20%. I said 20% for what?? She said a tip. I said a tip is based on the customer experience. You did not give me a relaxing massage, but I'm still giving you something. She said my tip wasn't 20%. I said I know, but as a customer, tipping is my choice! I said go ahead and continue to insult me, I've been coming here for years! You are going to make it where I don't want to come back! She held my money with a disgusted look on her face. I turned around and walked out and will not be going back. I want to add I've been to the Capitola location as I live closer to that one and the experience I've received there has been excellent! I should've just gone there instead. To the "new" owners, if you are reading this, the lady that took care of me has been there for about a year and a half. She is very rude, she does not listen to the customer, and is basically beating them up. She is chasing all your repeat customers away! A tip is well earned, not demanded. If the service isn't good, I shouldn't have to tip. Also, I am used to paying at the end and that does kind of corner me to where I feel somewhat obligated to give a tip because I'm already pulling money out of my wallet... but by asking me for the fee beforehand, I am less likely to pull out my wallet again especially if the service was poor. My friend got me a gift certificate for a foot massage here. I was recently traveling and messed up my neck sleeping in hotel beds and couches so I wanted to pay the difference for a full body massage, which on their website is $10. When I got there I was told it was $35. They're cash only so I had to walk to the bank and pay the $3.50 charge at the ATM since it wasn't my bank. I took $40 out and went back. The woman at the front said follow her and I went back with another woman who opened a door for me and promptly shut it behind me. I have had one massage in my entire life before this and wasn't sure on how much to undress so I had to open the door and go back out and find her and ask. I was willing to get over all this until the massage started. I have no other way to describe it other than this woman beat the shit out of me. Kneading SO hard into my bones, not my muscles and at times just slapping or punching my spine, shoulder blades, and ass cheeks. She had long fingernails that she dug into my skin and I was wincing in pain and tensing my back to get away from her most of the time. Yes, I should have said something but I'm a people pleaser, especially service workers and I didn't want to upset her plus I thought maybe she knew better than me. Maybe a harder massage would feel better the next day even if hurt now? At one point she was just yanking on my arms and legs and pulling my fingers and toes to pop them which I reeeeally hate. When she flipped me over, she worked on my neck for about 5 minutes before climbing on top of me and just punching my shoulders and thighs. I heard the door open and from under the towel she put over my face I saw someone flailing their arm into the room. She got off and left and the only reason I knew it was probably over is I looked at the clock in the room. When I walked out she gave me a small cup of water which was nice but when I said thank you she held up a sign that said "tips 20%". I only had $5 left of what I took out of the bank and I wasn't keen on tipping at all after that experience. I told her I only had $5 and she sighed and shook her head at me. She grabbed the $5 and walked to the back and I left. It's been 2 days and my back and neck are so sore I can barely move or lie down. The same person who I saw cleaning the bathroom started my session by massaging my face! In the process, she kept pulling my hair. Very painful. I asked her 3 times not to hit or karate chop me. We only wanted the foot massage. She tried using her translator phone to tell us she doesn't do foot massages and only "better" to get the full body. do NOT go here unless u want a real beating. First of all i had a BOOKED appointment for 1:00 and i arrived 10 minutes early. there was no one in the lobby but there was a bell. I had a 60 minute couples massage with another family member and we waited until 1 to ring the bell. a lady came out and we could barely understand her which is understandable considering the language barrier. She asked if we had an appointment we said yes. She said it's going to be a 15-20 minute wait even though we had a booked appointment that we booked days in advance. she brought us back to a dark room and the shut the door without further explanation. so we undressed still wearing our underwear and sat down. we waited 25 minutes until someone came in and said it's going to be another 15 minutes. we were very upset because we had people waiting on us. We politely asked for a 30 minute massage instead of the 60 minute because we had other plans. The lady got very upset when we asked that. then she started yelling at the other woman in the room. without shutting the door she ripped the blanket off my naked body with no warning (she did replace the blanket). There was no hi or hello or anything to indicate the massage was beginning until she started massaging me. The whole time she was sighing loud and what i think was complaining to her coworker. about 5 minutes in she walked out and starting yelling at another coworker outside our door. then she came back in and slammed the door. The massage was horrible. it was extremely painful and she was digging her elbow into my bones. she did not even touch my lower back. she dug her body into my buttcheeks which there was no warning for. to go along with that she pulled my underwear down all the way without asking me or anything. it was extremely painful and i was squirming around because it hurt and she grabbed my arm to make me stop. i have back problems as it is and she did not ask if i had anything wrong so she was pushing and beating the parts of my back that were previously hurt. I did express to her that it was hurting and she did not care. She dug her extremely long nails into the back of my neck as if she was mad at me. She then punched and pinched the back of my neck giving me a migraine for the rest of the day. she then pulled my arms so hard i though she was gonna pop them out of place. finally the massage was over and there was no conversation or anything to indicate we could leave. they simply just walked out. we got dressed and then walked out. we did not wanna tip and they CHASED us outside saying we had to tip them. this was the worst experience do not come here. it's the next day and i couldn't even sleep on my back because its swollen and in so much pain. read more

I treated my fiancé to a one hour full body massage (55$) here yesterday. Firstly, they only take cash, which wasn't the biggest deal since there's a chase bank less than a minute's walk away. Took out 65$, got change back from them for the extra 10$. I left my partner there for the hour, and when I returned he left the building to get into the car with me, and afterward the masseuse promptly came running out, trying to get my partner's attention. He exited the car and after a minute or two of hand gestures and broken communication he told me "They require a tip". I gave him the only cash I had on me, the 10$ from earlier, and we were allowed to leave. My partner then explained to me his experience there: Firstly, there was 0 communication on the part of the masseuse. I can understand a language barrier (the masseuse did his best to communicate usually) but during the massage he was silent. Never once did he respond to my partner's complaints of pain in certain areas, verbally or otherwise. The massage was rather painful and strange, including the masseuse simply "slapping" some parts of my partner's body from time to time to seemingly no effect. My partner told me that he was not asked to remove his underwear, but still was given a towel to cover up with, and at a point the masseuse lifted the waistband of my partner's underwear and tucked the towel in. Afterward, when he was chased down for a tip, the receptionist actually guilted him and forced him to give a tip, saying "He worked really hard, don't you think he deserves a good tip?" (referring to the masseuse) Today, my partner is still extremely sore on specifically his tailbone, upper back/low neck, and left shoulder, where the masseuse was ridiculously rough. read more

My gallbladder has been inflamed and I had a 30 minute Reflexology session today. The practitioner knew what she was doing and my feet feel feel terrific. My body feels great. I will return for more reflexology sessions and also try a massage. If you are looking for a new age spa setting, the Flying Crane Massage will not meet your expectations. I had a truly agonizing experience here today. In the past, I've come to this place and gotten fairly good chair massages, but today completely shattered the formerly good image I'd had of the establishment and the masseuses. The massage, if you could really call it that, was excruciatingly painful--I was actually on the verge of tears from the pain at certain points. The masseuse was FAR too rough, and when I repeatedly cried out in pain he did NOTHING. Didn't even respond verbally. By the time he was done, I was in truly crippling pain (affecting every part of my back, neck, and shoulders), to the extent that I had to take a Lyft home instead of taking the bus and walking home, as I'd planned--my lower back hurt FAR too much for me to walk all that much. Even now, a few hours and a double dose of ibuprofen later, it hurts. To make matters even worse, it did NOTHING to relieve the severe chronic tension in my shoulders. At all. Not even a tiny bit. I also noticed that the masseuse went pretty excessively far down my back, to the point of basically touching my butt, which made me SUPER uncomfortable, obviously. Finally, as the cherry on this awfulness sundae, the other employees did NOTHING. At least one other person, who I believe was the owner, was in the room as I shouted "OW" over and over, and she never did a damn thing. When I told her that the massage was incredibly painful and that the masseuse would not listen to me at all, she basically just shrugged. (It didn't help that no one there spoke much English--although that said, I'm not sure if it was a matter of her not actually comprehending what I was saying or a matter of her not caring, and between my awful experience and what I've seen from other reviewers, I am NOT inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt here.) However, that's not saying much. BODY massages = they don't at all even remotely touch your feet. $55 does not equal foot rub. Not at all. BUT! they WILL spread gobs of oil all over your body in sweeping motions! With no actual **massaging** happening at the same time. And they WILL drill their fists into your neck repeatedly. And aggressively rub you down with rough hot kinda smelly towels. And they won't massage any part of the front of your body, BUT they will aggressively pull your hair (even if you're not into that kind of thing). And they will run out the store after you holding a sign saying "20% tip" even if you've already tipped in the basket in the massage room. So, yeah! The major reason I give the Flying Crane a relatively low score is because their masseuses last only a week or 2, before moving on. I love Thai massage, and have had many a wonderful massage in Thailand and in the U.S. The quality here is wildly uneven, with some masseuses seeming quite professional and others seemingly fresh out of a 2 day cram course. The never-ending supply of young women appearing there, not speaking a word of English, literally, who disappear a week later, makes it clear that this business is not a serious about massage. Every time I have tried to rebook a talented masseuse, she has mysteriously disappeared by the next week. This business, and the branch in Santa Cruz, clearly functions to route large numbers of non English speaking Asian women, possibly recruited with promises of training in massage and a job in the U.S., to some unknown fate. read more

I've had Thai massage before. I couldn't resist going for the $24 dollar foot massage deal. The best Thai massage I'd had in my life was down in Santa Cruz in Seabright by a lady named Ploy. I wish I still lived in that neighborhood but now I see it'd be worth the drive going there and paying $80 instead in future. You get what you pay for! The guy who did my massage went on for over an hour (hour and twenty minutes) and it wasn't the foot massage I paid for. I figured "one hour foot massage" is what I wanted, and I got this full body deal, with the guy who couldn't speak English starting off by rubbing his dry fingers on my hair on my head (very painful), then working on my neck (painful), arms, hands, wrists, shoulders, legs, then FEET for 20 minutes and then had me turn over and worked on my back. For the rest of my body he used oil (thankfully) and he used a lot of pressure, which I took and just let it go. I'm ok with that to some extent but won't be surprised if I discover bruises on my body tomorrow. I feel a little bit better, but some massages you leave feeling like heaven and this was not the case. I'll never go back because although they had some nice piano music on in the background I was in an open room with 6 other "beds" and didn't feel like it was my own space to relax and lose myself in during the massage. It went on too long and I'm glad I had no other appointments that day, or else during the massage I would have had chance to check what time it was. Worth noting I'm self employed and not wealthy so every dollar and deal out there counts for me and the receptionist lady chased me down the street calling after me because I didn't tip the guy. The first time was great. My boyfriend and I had foot massage and left feeling light, happy and somewhat surprised having only paid $19 for a half hr and it be that good. The second time I went alone. I decide to get the $40 foot and body combo for one hour. I have to say that there were several reasons why I wont be going back a third time. First they said I had to wait for 20 minutes but ended up taking me in right away. You figure this was a good thing. They put me in a room with a woman who ran the hot water tub they normally use for foot massages and placed it near my feet on a stool. Awkward as it was, I had to skootch down on the bed so my feed were able to reach the bucket while laying down the wood rim was digging into my calves as she proceeded to scratch my scalp with her fingernails. Never had that before but okay. Then the front desk lady kept opening and closing the door disturbing the peacefulness and relaxation I went there to have with a squeaky door hinge. I couldn't get into it. Their neighbors play loud music that you can hear through the walls so they raised the volume to theirs to drown it out I guess. They switched ladies mid way and this is where things went south. I purposely left my underwear on only to have them pulled down completely exposing my rear end. At one point the reception lady came into the room for the 10th time with my rear end all out, door wide open in the middle of myassage was extremely awkward, inappropriate and unprofessional. She massaged my ass too....who does that without asking first as a special type if massage. It was the first fore. then she straddled my head as I lay face down on the bed. Literally kneeling over my head, one knee on both sides of my ears in between her legs to massage my back and her breathing progressively got louder as we reached the end. Downright BRUTAL. I can't for the life of me figure out why I didn't simply get up and leave. Older Asian man with glasses was my "therapist." My full body massage began with very heavy bone on bone rubbing directly on my spine up to my skull. Painful right from the start. Now, I love a deep tissue massage, but this was an hour of primarily bone bruising. I was treated more like a sack of beans than a person. He tossed my arms around rather than placing them. He never really "touched" me or felt out the knots; he rarely even got into muscle! When he did happen to hit a spot that I was really needing to be worked on, I said, "Yes, right there," but he never touched it again. He rammed into my cervical spine so hard that I'm hoping there's no real damage done. He worked over my ribs so hard that I told him to stop; that it hurt, but he didn't. He smacked into my head - hard - several times without apology. He leaned on my hair, he dug thumbs deep into the back of my skull (deeper than was comfortable), he whipped my arms forward hard enough to crack joints in my shoulders, he didn't respond to any indications of pain or actually hitting a good spot (I let him know). His fingernails were too long, and scratched often (think digging thumbs). He did do a scalp massage, kind of like an afterthought, but he used those talons so hard that it was excruciating rather than relaxing. Aside from feeling tortured rather than pampered (and realize that I want a good deep massage, so I'm prepared for that "good" soreness), the massage was bizarre. He massaged with a bedspread, for lack of a better word, over me for a long time. I thought, weird, but maybe some Covid precaution. And, hmm, were any of the linens clean? But about halfway through, off came the cover, and on came the oil, and he randomly worked my bones again. He never turned me over, so I missed out on the face/head massage that I was looking forward to in order to ease my headache. No hand work, no foot work. Obviously no forearm, thigh, hip, or shoulder work. He stepped away for a minute, and came back to slap a burning hot towel on my back, and used it to harshly rub the oil off. He ended with a beating over my body, and then just left. I was like, um, are we done? My boyfriend and I were getting a couple's massage, so we got dressed, left our tips (I was prepared to leave a $20 tip for a $55 massage, but left $10 instead - roughly 20%). I'm sure that my boyfriend probably left $20, as we both believe in tipping well. As we were leaving, the lady that did my boyfriend's massage was saying something to us that we couldn't understand. Finally, she held up a sign that said, "TIPS 20%" My boyfriend laughed, but I was incredulous as we both said we'd left them in the room. Seriously? Demanding tips? Why not just charge for them automatically on top of the cost of the massage? I can't believe this place has been here for so many years! I really like this place and think the foot massages are a great value for the price. I've only had the foot massages here, not the full body, but have only had positive experiences. A quiet, peaceful ambiance. I have been able to walk in and be treated immediately every time. The foot massage area is a common area, but you're given a cloth over your eyes, and it has not been disruptive. No need to undress, just comfortable clothes that you can roll up to your knees. The foot massage includes a warm water soak, gentle leg stretches, scalp, neck, shoulders, arms and back massage through your clothes. I would give them 5 stars if they had a massage chair for the back work, rather than seating you on a stool, which isn't as relaxing. However, for the price, I'm well pleased. read more

I had noticed the "new massage place" several months ago but just wasn't sure what to think about it. My body was in dire need of a full body massage so I thought I'd go ahead and try out the Flying Crane. We were pleasantly surprised! My husband and I went on a Friday night and were greeted by a very friendly female. We were escorted to our separate rooms and I was asked if I would prefer a male masseuse - which I went ahead with and my hubby had a female masseuse. We waited/relaxed for about 10 minutes and in came my masseuse. The massage was awesome - a little on the strong/aggressive side but did the job! One little thing... we paid for a full hour but between the wait and the actual massage, it definitely wasn't an hour. We decided to purchase their "discount card" so each massage was only $44!!! GREAT value!! The interior of the business is a lot nicer than I thought it would look like (based on the outside). As we were relaxing and waiting for our masseuses, the talking between the employees was a little louder and excessive than I would of liked, but overall, it was a GREAT experience!! I absolutely loved my foot massage. My friends mom and I went and the ladies gave us a full body over the clothes massage and really gave my feet a good rubbing. The only down side was my lady smelled like she ate garlic for lunch. Worth every penny though. read more

This place has been in SV for about 10 years. It used to be consistently good. Now it's consistently bad. The good workers are gone within weeks. Now they have so many new workers without experience. Just had a massage by a lady who essentially padded my legs, no kneading-like pressure. Also she only padded me for 45 minutes, not an hour. I told the owner and he did not offer a massage for free. Received a very pleasant Combo massage. The lady knew exactly how much pressure to use. I'm a big guy her hands were plenty strong. I made an appointment mid-week and got right in. For the Combo, you get a dee-luxe foot/calf massage and a great back massage. Go in wearing gym shorts and you'll only take your shirt off. Your back is mostly covered but they do oil up (lotion?) your skin for your shoulders. I went in with shoulder pain and left with most of the pain gone. My only other experience here was the foot massage which is much more than a foot massage. If you're on the fence with Flying Crane, go with that option and test it for yourself. Part of my 5 star rating is because they've managed to keep their prices low over the years. And if you're looking for chit-chat, go get your nails done. Hope this helps. read more

Three strikes! I wrote a previous bad review regarding my experience in Scotts Valley with a foot massage. I've been going to Flying Crane Massage in Valley since it's inception many years ago. It's a good bang for your buck. Holy cow how things have gone downhill. After my last experience in Scotts Valley I decided to give them one last shot and called to schedule a full body massage. They had no availability in Scotts Valley and told me to call Capitola. I called Capitola with a friend sitting aside me witnessing the whole thing. They indicated they had time at 5 o'clock. I was thrilled to get the 5 o'clock as I was in a lot of pain. I show up at 5 o'clock and a gentleman greets me at the lobby. The same gentleman they gave me the horrific foot massage and had the rotten attitude when I was in Scotts Valley Flying Crane Massage last. The massage is $55 and I gave him $70 and he kept the change. I kindly requested my change and he could not converse with me and just kept pointing at the money. I tried over and over to convey I wanted my change. And he said "tip!" So, he essentially was assuming I was going to give a $15 tip. I was tired of the back-and-forth so I just said keep it. He led me to the massage room where a nice woman met me and asked if I had an appointment and I again said yes at 5 o'clock and she says no no we do not have you in our computer. I said yes I called a couple hours ago and you told me to come in at 5 o'clock and she said OK "can he give you the massage?" I'm thinking "oh hell no!! I did not want to hurt anybody's feelings and said I felt more comfortable with a woman. They also requested I lay in the massage room for an hour and wait. After the back-and-forth back with her other counterparts she said OK we found somebody so I was instructed to get undressed and lay on the table. After laying there for five minutes a woman comes in and says "I'm sorry no appointment". You seriously got to be kidding me! I'm laying naked on your table and you telling me I don't have an appointment when I clearly do. Of course I did not convey it like that I just again over and over stated yes I have an appointment they said no you have no appointment they asked me to lay there on the table for one hour and wait for them. Really? Oh Lord! Between the lack of cleanliness an extreme need for updating, as well as a poor customer service...I'm sorry but end of story with Flying Crane Massage! read more

I have been going to flying crane for 3 years with my husband we always get the couples foot massage. For Christmas my mom purchased a couples foot massage package. We step up an appointment and we were escorted to their 4 bed room. As we were getting settled into our beds there was a 2 ladies that had just completed their massages and they were leaving. While we waited the massage techs came back in and folded the towels and straighted the linens for the next client without changing them. We were appalled and couldnt be more disgusted. We stood up and requested a refund and left. We will never come back to this disgusting business again. We had been loyal customers for years and this was too much. Buyer beware! read more
