My wife and I are staying at a spa nearby and asked some locals where to find some good pub food…read more Both suggested the Whistle Stop, and boy were they right! The atmosphere is a little dated, even for a small local pub. Ultimately the chairs were comfortable, the tables were clean, and the waitress put the Canucks game up on another television for us so that we both could see it while sitting on opposite sides of the table. Speaking of the waitress: she and a bartender seemed to be the only staff on hand. The bartender was helping as best he could, but for a Sunday night the place was packed. There were two large groups, and the lack of additional staff made service a little slow, at least for drinks. Our food still arrived very quickly, especially considering how busy it was. The wrong appetizer came out, unfortunately, but the waitress quickly and happily rectified it. Shortly after, our mozzarella agnolotti arrived: a breaded, fried mozzarella ravioli that we were eager to try. It was one of the best things I have ever had in a pub, hands down. The ravioli shell was crispy and seasoned to perfection, and the mozzarella-parmasean-ricotta filling was gooey and delicious. If we are ever back on the island I will be returning for a plate of these alone! For my entree I had a cheddar burger, easy on the condiments. I find pub burgers are too often drowning in sauce, ruining an otherwise decent burger. This one arrived and the bun was lightly brushed with some relish, topped with a fresh, firm tomato slice, two crisp leaves of lettuce, and some thinly sliced rings of onion. The patty was seared nicely and was deliciously juicy throughout. It was a hell of a burger, by any measure. My wife ordered a chicken burger, a grilled chicken breast on a soft bun, with their "cactus chips." They seemed like a homemade barbecue flavoured potato chip. She said they, and the chicken burger, were very good. We will definitely make a point of returning here if we are ever in the area. All in all it is a fantastic local pub with amazing food.

We didnʻt want to start anything, so she gave him a 50 and he grabbed it and threw it back at us. The server was really nice though. She tried to calm the bartender down and apologized for his reaction. The band was good and I will say the drinks were good too but the service on the bar end was horrible. Never coming here again.

The Timber Room - K said that the chowder was not quite as good as Earls, which has excellent chowder, so a good compliment. The Caesar salad was a starter

Our server was young, but you could tell she knew her stuff. She kept our water glasses full along with all the other guests. The menu is pretty vast, without being too big. Plenty to choose from with a great sounding special and soup of the day. There really is something to please everyone. Our drinks were cold, and to food we ordered was great. The lovely K got the clam chowder and a starter Caesar salad. Both were very good with the starter salad being larger than most large salads we get. I had the Mediterranean falafel and the soup of the day which was split pea with ham. Both were excellent. The Stella I ordered was a full pint, not something I see every day, they are typically 500 mls. All in all we thought it was outstanding, and will most definitely be back!

We grabbed a seat by the window on a cloudy day, but still enjoyed a lovely view. Really, though, anywhere you sit is great - the cozy decor makes every spot feel welcoming and comfortable.

Four star pub food and great atmosphere thanks to the Sunday Night Acoustic Jam . . . …read more Finally, a nice alternative when staying at The Kingfisher Resort down the way. The place was rocking with the Jam underway when we came in. We stuck out - as everyone else appeared local and knowing of each other - but they made us feel welcome, and the servers were super-friendly. We shared Seafood Mushroom Caps ($11) - an old school favourite, and they were plump with fake crab and shrimp in a herb-garlic creamy breadcrumb filling. More on the seafood, than bread, which was good. There was so much melted mozzarella on top; each bite was addictive. I enjoyed the AAA 6oz sirloin steak dinner ($16) immensely, it was way beyond the average pub steak, cooked as ordered and plated with care with delicious, perfectly cooked fresh vegetables and roasted potatoes. The $1.50 extra for sautéed mushrooms was such a small portion they didn't really add to the meal. My partner's expectations were exceeded with the Fanny Bay Oyster Po Boy ($15) on ciabatta. There was no skimping on the portions - it was overflowing fresh cooked panko-crusted oysters with greens and tartar sauce. Chocolate Ganache Pie ($7.00) was a rich, silky chocolate and peanut butter fix for dessert. All in all, the menu has typical BC pub food, like burgers, fish, pizza, sandwiches, appys, etc., however from what we had the kitchen is really putting care and heart into the dishes. The Jam was good music, great atmosphere. I understand there is a new menu since my October visit . . . Worth a try!

In the end it was a different waitress that gave us our food. And when the bill came there was no discount as an acknowledgement of our poor experience. It will be a long time before we go back.
