Ok. I really don't like giving negative reviews and this place is crazy popular but... well since my former favorite Ruston cheap eats, Chef John I think and his excellent Cuban sandwich, is no more I decided to try this very popular place. It's very cheery decor with red and white tile is welcoming, and it's that common new fast diner style of ordering at the counter and picking up yourself from there. I don't mind that if the food is good. First, though, my fault for specifying only cheese and grilled onions for my burger apparently I missed the fine print and got a dry bun with meat, cheese, and grilled onion. Ok. I could life with that. It meant a purer judgement of the meat & all, I sympathized with myself. But that was immediately disappointing. The patty was overcooked, crumbly, and dry instead of tender & juicy. It was fairly generous at a squidge larger than a Whataburger but that combo, with fries and a SMALL drink cup, was over $13. Oh and the fries. They LOOK perfectly done but mine were mushy. Not soggy, greasy, but mushy. Reasonably well seasoned though there's better from a couple of drive through windows, honestly. For these prices these burgers don't compare to Smashburger at all. BUT the menu includes a broad selection of other offerings that might be much better too, including fish, shrimp, chicken, both fried and grilled, platters, salads, etc. but they come within just a few dollars of "restaurant" prices on virtually every dish. So... two stars for decor and selection. Burger combo itself 1 star vis a vis value. read more

This place has the best burgers!!!!!!!!!!! The seafood is good as well. They even have fried catfish salads!!! Everything is always fresh and the place is very clean. My only complaint is that they need ceiling fans in here. When it get crowded it get hot, but it's worth it Update: it's not as good as before. I think his place is over rated. It is very expensive for what they offer. My wife and I were extremely disappointed in our food. My fish tacos came in hard shell tacos, like Taco Bell. But it was partially my fault expecting something more authentic. My wife couldn't even finish her plate of shrimp because it was too rubbery and the coleslaw didn't even remotely taste fresh. To pay $30 for this horrible mess of cheap food is an absolute crime and I will for sure not return. read more

We knew it had to be good because when we pulled into the parking lot, there were half a dozen state trooper cars. My wife had the grilled catfish plate with black beans and rice. Ok folks, Flying Burger has finally landed and opened in Ruston and I guess I'm the first to post a review. So the first thing I'd say is "Go, check it out!" They had a really nice crowd going around 6:00 when we were leaving. The line moves quickly and so does the service of the food. Pretty impressive delivery given today is the FIRST DAY. I thought everything moved along very smoothly. The space seemed much larger, and better laid out, than the old pizza joint. They can serve a ton of people in this place. I also like that the Take-Out register has its own entrance. Oh, and then there was the food. Also great! My wife had a burger combo - cheeseburger, fries and a drink. I love that the patties are hand formed and on display when you walk in. It was perfectly prepared and all of the condiments seemed very fresh. The FRIES are the REAL DEAL. I'd put them up against BECKS PRIME any day. I went the seafood route: I ordered the Gumbo and a shrimp and fish basket (4 BIG shrimp and 4 catfish fillets). The fish and shrimp were also cooked up just right. (I know 4 shrimp and 4 pieces of catfish seems piggish, but it wasn't much more for to get 4 pieces of fish rather than 2 so the other two and leftover fries are tomorrow's lunch. As for the Gumbo... it did have two really nice shrimp in it, but otherwise it was mostly rice with very little liquid or taste. So go on out to Flying Burger - it's a very welcome addition to the Ruston food scene. read more

This place is great. Love the boiled shrimp and the kids love the kids meal burgers (it comes in a little boat). I had the spicy grilled shrimp which was good but it came with black beans and rice which I was super surprised by the tastiness. There were several very large groups that came in right after us and this place handled the influx very well (they moved tables and opened a second cash register to handle the ordering. I gotta say I really think Ruston needed something like this. Very similar to Jucy's of East Texas game. Fresh, hot, delicious. The owner personally greeted me and spoke briefly about the return of the oil and gas energy of which I'm a part of. I was told this place had the best burgers in town! When I greeted the cashier with hello , how are you, she responds "tired"! Ok so she is clearly happy to be at work - not so much. She then ask how I am doing, and I respond perfect ! I ask about the cheese is it is pasteurized , she said let me ask, so she goes and ask some guy named Scott who says yes! However, when I ask clarifying questions about the type of cheese they put on the burger for an extra cost, the menu shows American ( which we all know is a pasteurized not real cheese- the equivalent of a kraft single), and pepper jack. All I wanted to know was if the pepper jack also the equivalent of a kraft single! I was met with a hostile attitude by an older woman just walked up to the counter, and who actually stated to me" let me go do some homework " in such a rude and flippant manner, and then went behind the line with that same poor attitude to ask the same guy named Scott who also seemed displeased that I inquired about the type/quality of the cheese! So, I told the poor cashier that I didn't need to eat here , based on those attitudes! I didn't appreciate! As I turn to walk out the same lady is saying come back to see us, again being flippant! I don't care how good their burgers are alleged to be, the service or lack there of speaks volumes to me! And I refuse to be treated in such a manner, especially when I am spending my money! Driving through Ruston on 20 and stopped for a quick lunch. The place was packed, but more importantly the food was fabulous. I had the shrimp poboy and my husband had the catfish poboy, both were tasty. The fries were fresh cut, hot and well seasoned! This was great. Catfish can sometimes taste dirty and/or be overcooked. Not here. The catfish was perfectly cooked. The grilled shrimp po-boy was fantastic. I was being a tad difficult wanting a combination that wasn't in the menu but they totally took care of me. Great customer service. I'm from Texas but my grandparents live here and I've got to say, this is my favorite restaurant! Every time I come to visit, I always come here. During Thanksgiving, I came twice. I order a cheeseburger with mayonnaise and pickles; it's the best tasting and most flavorful burger that I've ever tasted. The service is great and if you visit, you HAVE to come here. read more

The first negative comment I have ever left on here. I have always loved Flying Burger and my family and I always go almost every Sunday after church. This afternoon we order and wait over 40 minutes without receiving our food. I go to the counter only to receive 2 kids meals (1 kids meal and 2 adults not ready). After another 10 minutes she brings our food noticing my food order wasn't correct. When I asked to change it she stated that's not what I ordered even after showing the receipt. A blonde headed woman that looked to be trying to manage the kitchen (it was a little busy) grabbed my food and stated she would fix it. I politely stated again if it takes longer I will just get a refund on my meal since my family was almost finished. She never said anything just walked back to the kitchen. After waiting another 10 min I approach the counter and asked for my food again stating I have watched 2-3 other families receive their meals. The girl at the register interrupted me telling me why they got their food and the blond female walked up and stated that I shouldn't be rude. The owner is usually in the kitchen but wasn't that day. And there is a lady that usually goes around asking how the food and service is but didn't see her also. If I'm going to spend my money at a restaurant every Sunday with my family I will go somewhere else. read more

This burger place is an awesome addition to Ruston. They have all kinds of delicious, real food. You know it's real because of the display cooler they have at the front counter. You walk in, order at a counter, sit down, and wait for the buzzer they give you to let you know when your food is ready. I've tried their fried catfish (with delicious homemade fries as well as the barbecue grilled shrimp (switched the red beans and rice side for grilled zucchini and squash). Both dinners were excellent. The food is prepared at a great pace and is served hot! My friends have raved about the burgers and I've seen others with salads that look big and fresh. The price is moderate, but great for the real fresh food that you'll get to eat. I've been greeted with a smile and great attitude on both of my visits and I'm sure you will too! read more

This was our first time to stop at the Flying Burger. The place was very clean and pleasant in appearance. My wife and I both had the Combo Catfish and Shrimp baskets. We had a choice of fried, grilled, or boiled shrimp and spicy or regular catfish. We went with the regular fried. Both the shrimp and catfish were cooked perfectly. The catfish fillets were nice sized and the shrimp were larger than we expected. The French fries were fresh and delicious , as were the hush puppies. The hush puppies were a hint of sweet, with no hot spices, just like grandmother used to make. I was impressed with the condiments bar. It was very clean, with cups plenty big for your selections. They have a good choice of soft drinks and sweet tea won't melt your fillings. The wait staff was very friendly and worked hard to keep the place clean. We got here at lunch time and even though the lunch rush was starting, they got our order out in a timely fashion. The place looked like it could handle several more folks. The parking lot was laid out nicely for easy in and out. Due to it being close to I-20, we will be stopping here again, when we pass this way in the future. read more

Not many places in Ruston where you can eat healthy. I've had their fish and veggies and it's amazing. I've had their catfish, shrimp, burgers,etc. I've probably eaten here 20 times since they opened. This place gets an A+ on service, the food is consistent, and everything is fresh and made to order. The only thing I would request is that the owner bring back the Chocolate Chip Pizza from Pizza Inn as part of the desert menu! Then, I dont think I would be able to ever leave. This place is great!
